Welcome back!2 -
Work and then bowling. Ceramics tonight
Tracey – hope you get that offer.
Rita – I never heard of using olive oil on macaroni salad, but it looked real good
Olympics: I just find that I really don’t have time to spend watching it. And when I do have the time, there usually isn’t something on that I’m interested in
Tues here: I worked and then completely forgot that I was supposed to be at the church to count the donations. The sec’y called me so I went back. Big deposit.
Then went to the eye md. There’s a little bit of difference in the pressure of my left eye so I’m scheduled for a laser procedure next Wed to relieve some of the pressure.
This lady who had a fire in her condo has asked if there were any rentals from Oct to Dec. I’m trying to talk Vince into letting her stay in our condo since we won’t be there until Feb. He’s hesitant since he doesn’t know her. Well, one of the reasons is because whenever we’re down there, I’m the one who is always out with people, he’s the one who sits in the condo and watches TV. So, of course, I know her. And he doesn’t. Update: he finally agreed but I saw something on Facebook that she’s going to rent this one person’s unit. I know the rental agency and they are a real piece of work. I did mention to her that our condo is empty so how can I get in touch with her. I would never charge $2500/month to a friend. Oh well.
Beth – happy birthday to your mom
Barb – no word on the stove. You have no idea how many times I think of something to make and then realize that I can’t use the oven.
Someone at ceramics tonight made this chocolate cherry thing. Personally, I didn’t think it that great but maybe instead of a cake mix you can use a brownie mix. I’m going to try it when I can use the oven
Really raining right now. Think we’ll cut the grass tomorrow and Thurs
Kylia – yea for debt free to you!
Sharon – great to see you

Hi Sharon!1 -
Flea - I love that story.
Lisa - the pantry and carport are going to look great.
I hope you’re feeling better today.
Annie - I bet your dad will love having his grandson and great grandchild there. The parents will watch the baby I’m sure.
Heather - I hope you are doing well today and don’t need to make as many trips to the loo.
Vicki - I don’t understand the high turnover at your job.
Sorry your last days of your trip were spent ill.
Beth - I hope your back feels better soon.
Our bodies sure give us lots to deal with.
Barbara - Glad Tumble will be fine in a few days.
Kylia - What a relief to have that debt paid. Hopefully some tensions heal now.
Annie - is the party today? You’re doing so well with the details of this.
Lisa - Is Corey off this week? Not from work, just his usual Monday-Friday work.
Allie - Congrats on the less than 200!
Barbie - I am the techie in this house, not because I know so much about it only because I have the patience for it. Sometimes it can be a pain.
As someone in the job hunting market I wonder if some people accept any job because the job they truly want is taking too long to make decisions. I am very frustrated by the length of time this is taking, I personally wouldn’t do that, but I can understand how it happens.
Lanette - I feel so blessed that my girls and their friends invite me to different things.
Vicki - I’m the opposite, I’m really poor at the interviews but let me do the job and I’ll be your best employee.
Sorry the new girl didn’t work out, I can understand the shifts being hard on a marriage, but so is no money. 🤷♀️
Debbie - I don’t have pets, but listening to you and Allie I sure don’t want any either.
Sharon - Nice to see you
I didn’t hear from the job today, hopefully tomorrow.

Sharon, nice to see you!
At sisters in Shedd Oregon. Since Saturday. We went to Silver falls. Tiring walking but fun! Beautiful weather!
Played with temporary tattoos yesterday.
We stay outside until the bats fly around her trees and fly off. I was feeling under the weather this morning, sinus cold, achiness. Enough that sis gave me a COVID test. I was negative so that was good. Sat in her hot tub for a good couple of hours. My muscles felt so good!
Still have organized train trip home, will do that tomorrow.👍🏼

tracey – I’m like you, poor in interviews. But leave me alone and let me do my job...that works. That’s probably why I’m at BK for almost 3 years now. They leave me alone and let me do my job. At one point one of the managers was constantly micro-managing me and I was about to quit. However, then she announced that she was going to another store. I bit my tongue for 2 more weeks (was hoping it would only be 1 but wasn’t that fortunate). A few weeks after she’d gone she came into BK and said that she’d been fired from that BK and I thought to myself “no surprise there”. How someone can get fired from BK is beyond me!. Best thoughts being sent to you for the job
Deb – I’m so with you, pets are wonderful. When you don’t have one, the house seems so empty. I know in the time between Loki’s passing and us getting the kittens, there was such an emptiness.
Tried those gel drops tonight. There wasn’t anything on the package about the eyes getting blurry, I really didn’t experience that. Looks like they didn’t hurt.
Not sure why I can’t sleep. But I can’t so here I am.

Today’s gratitude: Insurance nurse was gentle with both BP and blood draw. BP was surprisingly good.
Attagal Allie!!!
Barbie “…I didn't grab his phone out of his hand and he didn't say he'd never talk to me again.” Bravissima!!!
Lannette Hope your logging operation goes well and the results are what you want. Here it seems if you sell logs, the loggers just take the trees and leave a big mess, stumps, slash, torn up ground. If you PAY $$$ to have trees removed the arborist company does a better job of cleanup and leaving your yard looking ok.
Vicki “…It's the working part they have problems with.” You said it galfriend!
Sharon so great to see your smiling face! Welcome back! Take your time catching us up. No pressure.
Beth fingers X’d for you and your DH as he messes with fixing your stove.
Michele have you had the laser procedure before?
Tracey ((hugs)) the waiting is the hardest part.
Rebecca great pics and smiles.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Morning, my chicks,
Oh my gosh, back to my usual life today and glad of it...
Tracey - Corey took two days off, this Monday and Tuesday, in order to get this carport re-clad and painted. Big job for just two people, and especially when only one of those is Corey! 🤣 We got it done yesterday, thank goodness. I'll take a picture after the sun's up this morning.
--One of the things that would help on the waiting on the job front (I had a LOT of jobs over the years) is to seriously look for another. Makes the universe understand that you have options, I think, and if nothing else, it's distracting. Plus, you never know!
Allie - I woke up thinking, "Oh no, I didn't tell Allie congrats on the weight!" Getting under the two hundreds DOES matter, whether part of us thinks it's reasonable or not. There's a huge boost to seeing that 199 come up on the scale. Well done!
Rebecca - It looks like you're having great fun, and those outdoor pictures look cool and wonderful! The summer cold may just be your immune system staying revved up after being around kiddo's germs for a while, and it's got nothing to work on! 👀🤷🏻♀️😟 In pictures, your features and your sister's look SO much like Athena's. 🥰 Don't forget to get some rest soon... how did the son and DDIL work out the babysitter thing once you headed for your sis?
Sharon - Welcome back! Look forward to the story...
Barbara AHMOD - Glad Tumble's going to be tickety-boo...
Egg is on my side table itching at something and pushing everything off with her tail in order to get my attention. Worse than a child. 🐈⬛👀🤣
More later, most likely,
Love,

Barb - no, I've never had this laser procedure before.
Beth - maybe your husband would look at our stove? I'm just not sure if you need an LG relay or not. The stove was here when we moved to the house, but I haven't heard good things at all about LG service.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
We had a lovely time sailing on the Chesapeake yesterday for Dad's birthday. It was a big sailboat, 46 foot. It was breezy enough to be lively but not scary. Very pleasant. The captain brought out a guitar and sang Happy birthday to my Dad. Yay! Dad was quiet but I think he had fun.
This afternoon is the party. And somewhere in there is the conversation about selling Dad's car. So lots going on. I need to clean up the kitchen and get dressed.
Have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

Hello, my chickens...
My moment of zen for the morning... watching the robins and the cardinals running in and out of the sprinkler that I have set up for the garden. They look like fat little sandpipers with short legs. 🤣
And, in the spoiler, the last four days of hard work and sweat.Bless Cor's heart - there wasn't a straight line to be had anywhere, floor, wall or ceiling. The kitchen door - back right in the center pic - was inset four inches from the wall on one side and flush with the wall on the other side of it. We think the carport and the two rooms beside it were added on to the house long after it was built. Anyway, as you can see, still some trim to put up, but it makes this place look SO much better. The floor isn't painted nearly as white as it looks like in the last photo - that's overspray, and barely noticeable when you're standing on it, believe it or not.
I love it when, like with the sunroom, we do something that is for US. Not whether the neighbors can see it or not--it's barely visible, especially with the morning glories fully vined up for the summer. Not for any supposed resale value on the house, either. Just for us.
Anyway... I'm into my usual mode, got the water going onto the flower beds now, and I've got bedding in the dryer and all the clothes we were wearing in the washer. We were both changing clothes twice a day due to the hard work out in the heat, so a full week's laundry in four days. No worries, that's why we have a laundry room. That's OK, between the exercise and the sweating, it's keeping my weight down, too... 😲😁
Hope it's a good day - my head says it's Monday, since Corey went back to work just today, but when you're retired, it doesn't really matter anyway. 🥰
Later,
Love,
Lisa

Good morning ladies!
Rebecca - love love love your haircut, beautiful wave and it frames your face perfectly. Wise choice! Looks like you're having great fun with your sister. I'm betting Lee will be glad to have you back home.
Annie - glad to hear your dad's birthday activities are going well. Sailing on the Chesapeake sounded wonderful!! Good luck with the rest of the activities today, fingers crossed his car situation will be taken care of.
Lisa - what a great feeling to have the carport project at the finish line, and something you'll both enjoy. Thanks for sharing those photos. I bet you smile every time you walk into the carport. Corey and crew (YOU) did a fabulous job. I remember when you first moved in, you folks sure have made the house and property your own. Definitely something to be proud of.
Tracey - crossing fingers today will be the day you hear good news about the job.
Vicki - I'd like to be a mouse and observe what's going on with your HR department and see how they are evaluating applicants. Perhaps the applicant pool is just that slim. Do you have any staff that have been there for a long time? I think you have mentioned before; there's one who'll be your likely replacement when you retire.
Barbara - not sure when the power company will get after those trees. They normally bring in a chipper/shredder and make short work of them, so not leaving a mess like a big logging operation would. The last time, I recall DH had them leave some of the chipped material to use for mulch although they can blow it into a truck and haul it away. I'm just not sure if the tree trunks would be too large for that.
About female friendship:I ran across a YouTube creator, Laura Hill, who has been posting videos focusing on female friendship. Several of her recent videos got me thinking about my neighbor who I walked with and have cut back/actually stopped for the time being due to my foot issues. And how she and I, during the pandemic, developed a great friendship since were in "lockdown" for so long and our daily walking kind of kept us sane. After my DH's death, my priorities had to change and my daily walking with her fell to the bottom of the list. That and the damage I did to my feet. She expressed some hurt and loss after I cut back on that walking with her, while I found it freeing to be in charge of my own schedule again.
Friends move on or change status for different reasons. Several of us have lost good friends (including DH's) these past few years. Can this depth of friendship ever be replaced? Should it be? I look at it as my time for introspection and getting reacquainted with myself and my needs, which are changing now that I'm on my own. I know not everyone is going down that path and it's OK.
If interested, here's Hill's main page: https://www.youtube.com/@laurahillauthor
I really liked this short about defining friends: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/WAjUPyGoOqE
I'm heading to town this morning to grab a few things.
I plan to stop by the local nursery and check out their Bay Laurel. I don't use that many bay leaves in cooking - but always just loved to pick a fresh one to pop in with a roast or stew since the dried ones get so crumbly. Not sure I want to take on another bay tree that I'll have to put in a container. We'll see. The old one is so root bound in its container and is suffering terribly. I might pick off the better remaining good leaves at the end of the summer, dry them, and just put up with it if they are crumbly.
My monkey puzzle tree is losing lower branches - I have been panicking, but after some internet searches, it looks like that's normal. Prickly suckers, hope my landscape crew wears leather gloves when they come to clean them up one of these days.
That's a wrap. Make it a super day.

Yesterday, dinner was a 6 inch sub from subway with grilled chicken and lots of veggies, no dressing. I find that their subs with all the veggies (except hot peppers) don’t need any dressing. Breakfast same: oatmeal with 1/2 banana, almond butter and almond milk. I tried a Sabra snack (humus and flat pretzels) for supper, I can do that! Lol, plout for a snack and a rice cake with almond/peanut butter. My grocery store provides fresh roasted peanuts and or almonds to grind yourself. I fill a container with half peanuts and half almond nuts and use that. Yummy and no sugar!! I went there yesterday and got that, a plout, a nectarine, a plum, a package of guavas to try, some celery and an English cucumber. That will last until Friday at least! I like trying different fruits. I had a mango last week. I want to try dragon fruit and Ugly fruit next time I see them. And papaya. One at a time just for something different from my usual. I find I need to stay away from grapes as I eat them like popcorn or candy. Once I start, I can’t stop!! So limit those.
I took a pic of my sub:

Just off the phone to L, who is about to embark on a tour of old friends in the 'West Country'. Her old friend who visited last week was hugely annoying and frustrating, so I hope this goes better. She is far more sociable than I am!
Quiet day. Hot. I had the fan on for my nap.
Waitrose delivery.
John is cooking our recent pizza discovery this evening, but he will need supervision. I can smell he has done the leeks.
It's leeks, mozzarella and anchovies, on a rolled out pizza dough. He had no idea how to defrost the dough, which surprised me, as he must have seen me do it tens of times. Having it with asparagus.
John is off to meet his friend on the seafront tomorrow for coffee. I hope it doesn't rain. I will be interested to hear what she is up to.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

I am in the process of making a new friend. I met a woman walking a dog in my neighborhood. She had just moved in and was friendly and had lots of questions. Her little white male dog and Annie got along well so we were able to walk and talk together. I found out that she doesn't have a computer and disconnected from the Internet about five years ago and has no use for it. We shared a few comments about spirituality and discovered that we are widely different places on the religion/church/spirituality continuum yet we share some similar basic beliefs in the way the world operates. It was interesting to observe our differences and how respectful we were toward each other as we found commonality. It has been a lot like us on this thread.

Hi Gals,
Lots going on in my world….so sorry I am not here more, reading and sending good thoughts. I am back logging and pleased with seeing weight go back towards were I want it.
Lisa – the car port looks much better, but I was curious about the “pantry” and don’t see it in the pictures. I assumed it was going to be part of the car port. Maybe it blends in so well I am not picking it out.
Annie – happy to hear that the party went well and all had fun. Sometimes it takes a while for an idea to become “real” to our seniors. I have been talking about pre-paid cremation with my mom for 6-8 months with no to negative responses and yesterday she asked if we could make an appointment and go pre-pay for her cremation, as she thinks it will make it easier for me. The car situation for your dad might turn out the same. I had to bite my tongue and act/speak like it was a great new idea, thanks so much for thinking of me yahda yahda, yahda…. So now I just have to figure out which funeral home she wants to use, because she thinks we should use the one her dead friend used for her husband. But she can’t remember which dead friend.
Allie – Congrats! Great steps forward! And don’t worry about your friend who can not understand that sitting for hours in the heat is not good for you. She is not a real friend if she is not supportive of you taking care of your health.
Barbie – isn’t it great to find a new person to share with? Even if you are not on the same page with everything as long as you share somethings and are respectful.
Thinking of you all,
Kim in N. California

Sharon--So happy to see you post again. You were missed.
Rebecca--Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Lisa--Looks really nice. I understand just for you, that is why I want to take the tube out and put in walk-in shower. Just for us.
Lanette--Part of the problem with HR is that it is not local. Everything is done out of state and they have all of CHI to handle which our division is 5 states.

Kim - Still scratching my head about putting a "pantry" in the carport... While I think we're innovative, we're not that far in front of the curve! 🤣 But no, it's a shelf that we built to replace a tatty, $25, 6-foot tall bookshelf made of fiberboard and covered in black plastic veneer that we were using to hold pantry items in our kitchen. I asked for that replacement to be built when we decided to renovate the carport because we made the mistake of painting the old shelf and it started flaking immediately. I did take a picture while it was in progress. We worked together to build the shelf, I built and attached the trim on all edges and caulked it.
Corey spray painted the shelf at the same time as the carport walls, and we moved it in and the old one out that same day.
I picked up a piece of trim that matches the ceiling trim, and Corey will nestle the shelf up against that right hand wall and trim it in to make it appear that it was part of the original build. Because he's that guy. All the pantry items that are on the 7-foot shelf are the ones that he uses for his own - spicy chili crisp, hot sauces, etc.
Oh - and for those who wonder, no, we did not try to match the shelves in the original at right. Corey asked me if I wanted to, and would have done so, but I said no.
Later,
Love,
Lisa

It didn't seem to ahead of the curve to me as I grew up with pantry in the garage and I have one too. It has a door, in my mom's home with a fancy latch as they get critters in their garage - I have a door but no "big critters" as I keep the garage door and the door from the garage to backyard closed at night. I figured that with a latching door it would work in the carport for canned goods, I use mine for all the home canned items in the late fall I might have a few dozen jars of home canned times - pickles, fruit, jam, apple sauces, tomatoes, salsas..... Mom keeps canned goods but also that is where the extra toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, garbage bags laundry soap stuff is, the critters are less interested in that stuff.

Kim - Ha! Funny, it would have never occurred to me to store any kind of food, whether it's in a can or behind a locked door or not, in a garage or a carport. Seen folks build pantries into laundry rooms, as well, and I've stored packaged foods under beds, in closets in bedrooms, and so on, but never in a garage. Just couldn't make it compute!
