Morning, my chicks, from the lovely coolish morning of the middle of the country,
Already ferried Corey's last cup of coffee to him this morning, and we're both starting out with more than eight hours sleep, and lots of energy. I expect I will peter out fairly quickly, but then again, I'll be taking my prednisone here shortly, so who knows? If it hits me like yesterday, it could be Energizer Bunny time... 🐇🤣
Hope it's a good weekend for all, I'm going to put on my kicks and get the prep work done for getting the carport re-clad - get the vehicles moved, get the floor swept and the mitre saw and sawhorses set up with extension cords, etc.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

I feel a small bump on my head, kirby told me I did hit the corner of the chair next to me when I fainted. I’m gonna buy some electrolyte pills. I used to take powder but I don’t remember why I stopped. All the tea or water I take don’t have electrolytes.

I have been up and walking with crutches! First time! The nurse gave me liquid paracetamol, which tipped the morphine over the pain threshold. I was able to nap and then got to the loo with the physio. He was really worried that I would pass out, said I looked really pale. I did feel a tiny bit lightheaded, but pale and wan is my normal colour. Grey-faced. If I don't wear makeup, someone always asks me if I'm ill. My mother was the same. 'Death's door', she used to call it.
So, I'm feeling much more optimistic, and I've just taken an ibuprofen, with Gaviscon and biscuits. John is coming soon.
The X-ray session this morning was very painful, but I'm hoping I've turned the corner now. Being able to use the loo, with a chaperone to the door, is fantastic.
Onward and upwards!
Lisa - the day after my first chemo session I walked miles with no problem. Superwoman! Steroids are amazing at the beginning. My friend G is now trying to wean off long term use. Exhaustion.
Barbara - Sounds like your persistence with exercise etc is paying off. Well done!
Best thoughts and wishes to you all.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Pip-please just get checked out..that bump could lead to something .. just for safety sake..we love ya and want you safe
Im going to work on picking up and working on packing a bit more.
Alfie enjoying himself at his vacation home..lol5 -
Allie ~ Where are you going on your cruise? I asked before but you never answered.
Heather ~ Sounds like you are doing great. Keep up the good work.
Pip ~ When I fell I had a big knot on my forehead and the dr made me get a cat scan for brain bleeders. He said they might be a result. Maybe you should see about getting one.
My whole leg is black and blue but not as swollen as it was. I am trying to rest more and not move around too much.

They gave my DH steroids in-between when changing cancer drugs. In addition to everything else he was going through he ended up with AFib shortly thereafter. I wouldn't let DrewB be given steroids for her auto immune disease because she had a heart murmur. With DrewB I wanted to get at the root cause...The cause was a combo of things...Stress, pesticides (Flea, tick, heatworm treatment) , and over vaccinated. I eliminated all of these. I put her on an all organic mostly meat diet with supplements of super green, Vit C for dogs, and few drops of milk thistle for her liver.
The risks with steroids were too high with her heart and possible personality change...She still has low platelets but anemia, limp, and heart worm gone. Lowering stress, exercise, and changing to a healthy diet is what vastly improved her health.
Steroids also lower immunity by opening the door to other problems.
I just wish doctors would start with diet, exercise, and sleep as their first recommendation. Then again they have to trust their patients will be motivated enough to change.
My sister always thought she would start tomorrow. Tomorrow did not come for her!3 -
Have to work the pay booth for 8 hours today and tomorrow. Guess this will be the norm until Labor Day. Not much else going on here.
Dinner yesterday was pan fried potatoes, sautéed spinach and Swiss chard, small piece of fish. A couple of overcooked jalapeño poppers. An orange for dessert.

Today is Scotch Whiskey, crème brûlée, and sleepy head day. The first two will result in the last! LOL. Sleepy head day is how I feel today. Brownie kept me up a lot last night. Not a good night’s sleep. Don’t forget to walk on stilts while walking your plants today! 🤪

I am not a fan of over medicating agree that people should pursue preventative measures like diet, exercise and sleep as a matter of course ... but I also know that meditations help.
My husband, for example takes a few for his brain injury, the epilepsy triggered by the brain injury, and his heart. Diet, exercise and sleep aren't enough.

I need to talk with mom about bringing some furniture up for the room- just a dresser and a futon. We need a bed in there for not only me but any guests. It will be perfect because they are both in our storage unit from dh's aunt- both are really good quality and barely used. Nice to have them out of our way and mom won't have to worry about replacing what was given away when Joanne moved in.
Carol- my dh is the same way- road rage all the time over silly little things. There have been many times I have been tempted to just get out of the car and walk home or call for a ride. Every thing seems to set him off
Glad you didn't do too much damage to your incision- take it easy!! Dh didn't after his first hip surgery and still has trouble with that one.
Heather- glad you are done with your second surgery, now to carefully heal up and get back to doing what you love and have been missing.
Rebecca- I know you have loved time with your grandkids but also know you are more than ready for a break- enjoy the time with your sister.

I will most likely be kinda emotional, and will just roll with it. Its been a definite change in my "awareness" and mommy instincts! My sister has a hot tub! She also bought some Baileys, and my favorite beer, Stella Artouis. I will probably have a drink most every night. Its all good.💖

Tracey - so glad to hear the interview went well. I'm sending positive vibes to the hiring committee.
Carol - glad your knee will be OK, and glad the swelling is going down. PT starts next week?
Pip - great idea to start getting the electrolytes in. I admire you getting exercise when it's so warm out. It was 48 again when I had my sunrise walk this morning. That's about perfect for me.
Allie - you mentioned getting a kidney transplant - wouldn't you be doing dialysis first if it comes to that? You have probably mentioned, and I sailed right past. I had a friend who had polycystic kidney disease, and eventually she had no choice but to go on dialysis. She was hoping for a transplant, but her health otherwise wasn't very good and she couldn't stop smoking. She eventually passed away, and I miss her. She reminded me of you - despite her illness, was always positive, and very giving and caring of others.
Heather - sounds like you have recovery from this 2nd operation under control. Won't be long now - you'll be sharing more photos of your walks along the seashore.
Barbara - great news about the water storage tanks refilling! Glad you are enjoying Dr. Matt - he comes up with some very insightful videos. I too love the idea we are in "training" rather than slogging through exercise. I don't know if that would have clicked for me 20 years ago when I was in much better physical shape, and I guess thought I'd stay that way forever. Now I appreciate and grab every nugget I find. Training to be healthy and independent 20 years from now.
Michigan Foot Doctors: Did I mention the Michigan Foot Doctors on YouTube? If not, I meant to. Lots of good tips about foot care. AND he presents detailed info about diabetes and pre-diabetes that I stumbled on early this morning - evidently a lot of the foot problems his clinic encounters are the result of sustained high blood sugar and insulin resistance. I had no idea. Some of them sound like what I've been dealing with over the past few years. He presents diet and supplement recommendations, some new ones I hadn't read about yet. If anyone is interested, here's his channel:

Leaf Guards : Yesterday, Rusty came by and cleaned (blew out) gutters on the house and shop, and also removed some moss on the north side of the house roof. He installed the leaf guards. Then he caulked gaps around the back doorframe & siding where old caulk had fallen out with his industrial strength gutter caulk. AND then he installed some of that strong leaf screen over the hole in the house soffit where the starlings got in this spring and built their nest. He had the perfect tall ladder to wiggle around and get after that.
He did it all with a smile. I handed him a check for the leaf guards, he loaded his ladders and said "have a great day!" and drove off to his next job. He must have been my son in a previous life.
Overcast right now. If the sun comes out and the dandelions start showing their yellow heads, I'll get on the mower and knock some of them down. Yesterday my next door neighbor said she thought my mower "sounded funny." They have the same mower. I wear hearing protectors, but I too thought it has seemed louder lately. I'm hoping that since I'm not cutting heavy grass, the sounds coming from the mower deck aren't muffled like they normally would be.
One of these days when friend Charlie stops by, I'll have him take it for a spin and see what he thinks if it doesn't conk out before that. Hope he'll either say "it's ok" or "hand me a wrench, the doo-hickey needs to be adjusted."
Have a great weekend!

Margaret - My thought is that we all make the best decisions that we can at the time in terms of medications, and on a case by case basis. I've made what I believe is a reasonable decision, along with my doctor, that one week of steroids may well give my system the jumpstart it needs to finally heal the ulcers in my colon. I am very well aware of the hazards involved. To me, dismissing any medication as a whole or dismissing any natural remedy as a whole is just not useful. Everything has a time and a place.
Heather - Woot! That first trip to the loo is honestly such a big hurdle to get over - I can't imagine it's easy with a just-replaced hip!
Tracey - So pleased your interview went well. Keeping all kinds of good thoughts for the weeks to come.
Taking a break and cooling down - We've been working on our pantry shelf standing shelf all morning, which I had hoped would be a shorter process, but it is going to be great. I had to stop and come inside, and once I've cooled down, will eat something. My time on my feet is a LOT longer than it was six months ago, but still only a few hours. Throw in the temp, which is now over 80 degrees, and I'm pretty well done. The spirit (and steroids, one assumes) are still willing but the flesh is still not ready for heat...

Carol-flying down to Ft Lauderdale 4 days before cruise and staying at a little boutique hotel near my.cousins and will hang with them for a few days. Then get on the Celebrity Beyond October 19th and going to Aruba,Curacao and Bonaire have reservations at to resorts one in Aruba and one in Curacao from Resort for a day and will catch the local bus to the Riu Marriot for some sun and fun..
Bonaire I didn't book anything,we shall see.. have a good amount of onboard credit, have booked a 75 min massage and 7 day thermal suite visits and 4 night specialty dining package..so im going to splurge and spoil myself..
Lanette- my mom did the damage to herself also. She smoked all her life, never ate right and was an active alcoholic for many years..she was almost 20 years sober when she passed ,and she went straight into renal failure..so she had to go on dialysis..
Right now..Im still holding my own..except for fatigue ,im still putting out urine and drinking water so thats a good thing
Got the dishes done and the garbage together and most of the stuff packed , but will go through again and maybe weed out some.

Machka-the stretching is helping me. Right now they want me doing them daily if possible-everything is extremely tight. Going to schedule a massage a bit earlier than normal too.
Barbara AHMOD-water is a good thing! I sent you a pm.
Annie-you are correct-always something with a house.
Pip-keeping an eye on electrolytes is a good idea. I drink an Armorlyte daily along with water and ice team etc, There's also dill pickle juice for an easy replacement.
Lanette-from my experience with folks with kidney issues, in most case transplant is preferred over dialysis. Dialysis is pretty rough on the body. They just have to evaluate every case on an individual basis.
Medications-I am in the conservative camp with them but many do serve a good purpose. Limited steroids have helped me with several issues over the years-but they have always been a short course and I have used therapy to help fix the issue. I am working to keep daily needed meds down. So when a new doctor's office said my ldl was 101 and they could put me on statins for it, I told them I would work on diet between now and next test. Don't think 1 point over requires medicine!
Slept well again last night. Still a bit tired (uti) but went for a 3 mile walk this am. It was lovely, but led to an hour nap! Now I need to get moving to get stuff straightened up and laundry done, check book balanced, bills paid and grandkids bday presents ordered.
Take care all,

I had a phone doctor visit today, called while I was on my bike ride. He requested blood draw for stuff he wants to check out and an in perso. Visit to hook me up to check my heart. Says they are going to give me some kind of hook up to monitor my heart for 24 hours and I will just do what I normally do so we will see what shakes9 -

Yeah,I made sure to ask them about my usual exercise day, he said yup just do what you normally do. I also have an in person appointment on 8/6 where they are going to hook me up, I think to an EKG. We will see what shakes. Went out for a bike ride, felt good.7 -

Had a good night's sleep and am feeling good today. Got a lot done outside but now my feet hurt. New pastor is coming for a visit and DD and I are trying to get the gazebo area cleaned up so we can be out there. He is trying to meet with all his parishoners individually. He has 2 boys, 7 and 2 so we will get the old mare out and give them rides if the weather cooperates. So far a little Dawn and water pressure from the hose are cleaning things up nicely. The big project will be to unearth the firepit from the weeds and get it useable.
Heather - hope your recovery continues smoothly.
Carol - so sorry about the fall. Having had both knees replaced I really do not believe that procedure should be same day surgery.
KJ - good to see you posting. Glad you haf a nice Friday.

walked MIL's dog this morning- he really loves it and looks forward to it.
Stopped at 168(Asian Market-part of Ranch 99) and got a Napa cabbage and some panko to make pork katsu. I skipped breakfast and just had a small piece of cold pizza while I was baking for the potluck tomorrow at church so when the katsu was done I had a whole piece. It was so good- Using that meat tenderizer machine sure makes the meat amazing- DH took two over to his mom. I cooked a doz so enough for everyone. Dh likes making sandwiches with them with some shredded Napa cabbage and some tonkatsu sauce on it.
Baked two cakes- banana walnut and a mango/pineapple/coconut- Have pecan chewy bars(new recipe )to do later.
Waiting to hear from my friend if she wants me to come over to show her how to use her sewing machine again. I was going to go last weekend but she was busy.
I won't be around next weekend-going to mom's

Lisa - I sure hope the one week steroid pack does the trick. Sounds promising so far and that sleep has to be helping you. I've had steroid packs twice in my life, both times to treat a herniated disc. They did the trick and the bulge retracted a bit and took pressure off the nerve.
Pip- glad you are getting everything checked out. I've also worn the Holter Monitor a couple times due to arrythmias. They determined nothing out of the ordinary. That and migraines have gotten a lot better since menopause.
Debbie - hope when you get to your mom's next weekend, the roomer is packed up and ready to leave if she hasn't already. Great idea pulling the futon out of storage to put in the empty room.
I've decided after having Rusty around yesterday, I don't need a retired fella in my life. Adopting someone like Rusty, 45, would be more than adequate. I know his dad - I need to give him a call and see if we can work something out.
I climbed on the noisy mower before lunch and it ran just fine, noise and all. Crossing fingers it continues running throughout the summer.

Pip- Ive had to wear a holter monitor a couple times no biggie. Nothing like wearing that flippin defibrillator for 3 months post heart surgery..
Love the nighttime soundd of summer with the crickets outside.
Going to try and get some sleep ,wish me luck.4 -

My BP, cholesterol and blood sugar are borderline high, but thankfully my doctors have told me that they are reluctant to prescribe medications at this point. They prefer to suggest diet and exercise.
However, for both my depression and my hot flashes, I'm on an antidepressant. That's the only regular medication I'm on, and it has been kind of funny when I've had to list my medications for a surgery or something and I've stated the one, and then I've been asked what else I'm on ... and the nurse expresses surprise that I'm only on one!

Today’s gratitude: Tumble’s limp is no worse. 1/3 aspirin every 30 hrs or so seems to help. Next available appointment with vet is Sept 16. Calling every morning to see if any cancellations, but since neither life-threatening nor in extreme pain we get triaged out.
Heather sorry the Xray session was so painful. Hope that’s that. Walking with crutches and getting to the loo Hooray!
Carol yours to pip, amen, sister!
Ginny I didn’t get your pm but here's the link.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3265100/

Pip thankful your Dr wants to see and monitor you. ((hugs))

I had a v good night. Amazing!
Just eaten breakfast. Porridge, scrambled eggs and fruit salad. Delicious!
I got to the loo by myself this morning and managed to have a wash and apply unguents to my face. Teeth clean.
Feel almost normal! Getting out of the bed is the most difficult thing, but it's not really hurting at rest any more. I can feel it, but I'm not in pain unless I move.
So I just have physio this morning, with stair climbing, and then it's the rather tedious discharge procedure. Hope to be out lunchtime-ish. Or soon after.
Feeling very grateful.
