I am in the process of making a new friend. I met a woman walking a dog in my neighborhood. She had just moved in and was friendly and had lots of questions. Her little white male dog and Annie got along well so we were able to walk and talk together. I found out that she doesn't have a computer and disconnected from the Internet about five years ago and has no use for it. We shared a few comments about spirituality and discovered that we are widely different places on the religion/church/spirituality continuum yet we share some similar basic beliefs in the way the world operates. It was interesting to observe our differences and how respectful we were toward each other as we found commonality. It has been a lot like us on this thread.

Hi Gals,
Lots going on in my world….so sorry I am not here more, reading and sending good thoughts. I am back logging and pleased with seeing weight go back towards were I want it.
Lisa – the car port looks much better, but I was curious about the “pantry” and don’t see it in the pictures. I assumed it was going to be part of the car port. Maybe it blends in so well I am not picking it out.
Annie – happy to hear that the party went well and all had fun. Sometimes it takes a while for an idea to become “real” to our seniors. I have been talking about pre-paid cremation with my mom for 6-8 months with no to negative responses and yesterday she asked if we could make an appointment and go pre-pay for her cremation, as she thinks it will make it easier for me. The car situation for your dad might turn out the same. I had to bite my tongue and act/speak like it was a great new idea, thanks so much for thinking of me yahda yahda, yahda…. So now I just have to figure out which funeral home she wants to use, because she thinks we should use the one her dead friend used for her husband. But she can’t remember which dead friend.
Allie – Congrats! Great steps forward! And don’t worry about your friend who can not understand that sitting for hours in the heat is not good for you. She is not a real friend if she is not supportive of you taking care of your health.
Barbie – isn’t it great to find a new person to share with? Even if you are not on the same page with everything as long as you share somethings and are respectful.
Thinking of you all,
Kim in N. California

Thought I had posted this, but now I can't find it so....
Sharon it's good to see you! I've been thinking about you and look forward to hearing about the last two years!

Sharon--So happy to see you post again. You were missed.
Rebecca--Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Lisa--Looks really nice. I understand just for you, that is why I want to take the tube out and put in walk-in shower. Just for us.
Lanette--Part of the problem with HR is that it is not local. Everything is done out of state and they have all of CHI to handle which our division is 5 states.

Kim - Still scratching my head about putting a "pantry" in the carport... While I think we're innovative, we're not that far in front of the curve! 🤣 But no, it's a shelf that we built to replace a tatty, $25, 6-foot tall bookshelf made of fiberboard and covered in black plastic veneer that we were using to hold pantry items in our kitchen. I asked for that replacement to be built when we decided to renovate the carport because we made the mistake of painting the old shelf and it started flaking immediately. I did take a picture while it was in progress. We worked together to build the shelf, I built and attached the trim on all edges and caulked it.
Corey spray painted the shelf at the same time as the carport walls, and we moved it in and the old one out that same day.
I picked up a piece of trim that matches the ceiling trim, and Corey will nestle the shelf up against that right hand wall and trim it in to make it appear that it was part of the original build. Because he's that guy. All the pantry items that are on the 7-foot shelf are the ones that he uses for his own - spicy chili crisp, hot sauces, etc.
Oh - and for those who wonder, no, we did not try to match the shelves in the original at right. Corey asked me if I wanted to, and would have done so, but I said no.
Later,
Love,
Lisa

It didn't seem to ahead of the curve to me as I grew up with pantry in the garage and I have one too. It has a door, in my mom's home with a fancy latch as they get critters in their garage - I have a door but no "big critters" as I keep the garage door and the door from the garage to backyard closed at night. I figured that with a latching door it would work in the carport for canned goods, I use mine for all the home canned items in the late fall I might have a few dozen jars of home canned times - pickles, fruit, jam, apple sauces, tomatoes, salsas..... Mom keeps canned goods but also that is where the extra toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, garbage bags laundry soap stuff is, the critters are less interested in that stuff.

Kim - Ha! Funny, it would have never occurred to me to store any kind of food, whether it's in a can or behind a locked door or not, in a garage or a carport. Seen folks build pantries into laundry rooms, as well, and I've stored packaged foods under beds, in closets in bedrooms, and so on, but never in a garage. Just couldn't make it compute!
Love,

We have some food in the garage. Coffee, tea. Plus toiletry extras, and kitchen towel etc. Plus alcohol. We also have one of our three freezers in there.
Leg hurting tonight. John wants to change a lamp bulb, but it takes both of us and I'm not up to it. I'm crawling up to bed in a minute.

All is ok..
Can't believe It's August already..4 -
Barbie… happy to hear that you’ve found a new friend!3

Barbara … it was the igniter. Better yet, DH cleaned all the crumbs and grime while he had the range pulled out!
Too many critters to trust food in our garage. We have to secure the bird food as it is.
Both my husband and I are exhausted … both emotionally and physically. Just too much going on. I’ll try out the repaired range tomorrow. We’re going to share a sub tonight.

We kept dog food in the garage until the critters found it. Now the only extras we keep out there are TP and garbage bags.

Hi everyone;
I hope all is well. Before I started my shift, I wrote a long post to all of you. After all of that, it disappeared. I was heartbroken.
This week, I was assigned to my 4-year-old, who is so sweet but is dying. My goal was to keep her comfortable. She was smiling and talking a bit. I just got word today that they officially stopped feedings. I had stopped them the second night I was working because she was wincing in pain and dumping out of her ostomy bag.
Meanwhile, I also had my blue-eyed cherub. My cherub continued to take herself off the vent, so we gave my busy girl some toys to play with and played Miss Rachel. She had a great big grin and held my finger. I was talking to another nurse and looking away; then I felt pain. I yelped, then realized that baby girl bit me. She
thought my reaction was hilarious. So, after I gave everyone their medication, I got an order for Benadryl for my cherub. She has an inflamed rash on the back of her leg that she was scratching and made bloody. I gave her a good lavender bath and let her play in the water. She was amazed by the water and the bubbles. So, she played for a while, then I changed her bed sheets, dried her curly top, and then put her to bed. She slept so well all night. I put nystatin on the rash. I hope it heals soon. I was doing okay; it was horrible when I returned to work. The day nurse looked frazzled and told me she was terrible all day. She was just a toddler. I love that baby. Then, I had a 14-year-old boy who had a traumatic brain
injury from an ATV accident. Now, he doesn't talk, walk, or do anything. I hope he comes back to himself. His TBI is so complicated for the family.
It was a rough weekend at work. We were upset with each other, and the manager had to come in and talk to us. We were all in tears. It was a very emotional work week.
PIP- What was your Blood sugar level? Take care of yourself. I wonder what the ambulance bill would have been if they had taken you in? If it happens again, go to the doctor or the nearest ER.
Heather- I hope you did well with your surgery. I hope you are on some great pain meds.
Wow, Richard Simmons did die? I thought it was his brother. The fitness icon is gone. Maybe I should do some Golden Oldies for exercise to pay homage.
Take care, everyone, and goodbye to July.

Goodbye to July and thank you all for welcoming me!
See you on the August thread!

Busy couple of hours. Had my eye test on Monday, with a fortnight for delivery. I’m reading at a function Tuesday 6 August and have been selecting pieces to read. So much work in the garden, but it’s worth it for the fresh veg.
Allie: Welcome to Onederland! 😂
Carol - That must have been a nasty fall. I hope the docs can get you some relief from the swelling and pain.
Sharon: Hi. Always good when someone comes back to us. 😂
Today I have some computer work I want to do, and laundry to put away.

While I was swimming in the pool, I got a text from work asking if I could continue to care for the 4-year-old who was dying. I said I wouldn't want it any other way. I have cared for her since she was a baby, so it is only suitable to be with her as she passes. However, she may not pass this weekend.
I look forward to seeing my Cherub, too. I worry about her going home to her mom. I question how a mom can leave her baby in an ant mound for so long to give her scars on her back and some on her face from the bites. She is so sporadic with visits, too. She is supposed to learn how to care for her, and she rarely comes to the hospital to visit. They say her drug test lately only shows MJ. So we will see.
I am excited and apprehensive about the trip to New York. I have purchased all of the tickets for the week. So, Monday is dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant. Tuesday, we are going to the Metropolitan Museum; Wednesday, the Empire State Building; Thursday, we are going to a Broadway show- Wicked; and Friday- off to the Airport to catch my 6:00 am flight back home. I will try to be good and not eat the wrong foods. I will use their gym in the hotel as well. I will miss swimming, but having Mother and Son's time will be great.
The Memory Care called to tell me that my mom caught Covid:(. I had her shots done and boosters, too. I am going to bring my mask to New York with me. I was hospitalized with it.
Lisa, I love your pantry. I need to scrub mine down and put a lining on the shelf. I did go through and throw away all of the out-of-date stuff. It is a little tight around the water heater. Maybe instead of lining the shelves, I will paint them. I am trying to pack up some things, too. Growing up in California, I never had a pantry, which is lovely. I love how yours is so bright and happy. I can see where everything is.
Allie- When is your cruise?
Pip- How are you feeling?
Barbie, it sounds like you met a friendly neighbor. It was also lovely that your dogs got along well.
Happy August, everyone!

August is here, and I do not know where everyone is. I am back from New York, and I tried to catch up with everyone, but I do not see any new posts. How is everyone this month? School started so early this year. I had a blast in New York with my son. He looks good, and we went to the Met and Empire State Building on a rainy, cloudy day, so it was hard to see anything. The Broadway show Wicked was terrific, and the seats were great. The pizza was delightful. They took my patient four year old off of the ventilator.
Mom did a balloon release in her memory. She was not the same before I left; she stopped talking, and it was only the vent that was keeping her alive. My cherub was happy and loved her baths and playing in the water. This week, I took care of two boys and a girl. One boy has been living in the hospital for his entire life. I have known him since he was three and now he is 17. He is completely paralyzed. I gave him a haircut, washed his hair, and gave him a good bath. He looked better. My other patient was a 16-year-old GSW. So I talked to the dad about gangs and how it would be hard for his son to be in that environment and be considered "safe." They decided to move to Texas. The choices the youth make are heartbreaking. I remember when I was in Chicago, and this young man was being questioned about his decision to join a gang. He said no and that he had promised his mom no gangs. The response was that your mom is going to get you killed. I wanted to grab that boy and protect him from danger. I worried about my son getting bullied because he is a nerd obsessed with science. He told me he would not fit in public middle school, so we put him in private school, which paid off. Unfortunately, the only bully he encountered was his sister.0 -
