@MissMay, thanks for setting up October! Glad you’re ok with the hurricane.
@xbowhunter so happy for you! Your positive energy is very motivating.
@SurferGirl1982 wow, the story of you being hospitalized is terrifying! Yeah, nip that in the bud as best you can, safely, of course.3 -
@Womona Yeah, my story is a little different than most of the other members here. And I think it is best for me to try to quit altogether.
Most of you know that I'm not capable of moderating. If I were, I don't think 1-2 A days a week would be that bad. But it just doesn't happen!
One thing that is very motivating is @xbowhunter. Yes, xbowhunter you are doing great! And giving inspiration to me and I imagine many others. Thank you!4 -

For what it's worth, I think you can do it today. If you don't, tomorrow will be here soon enough.6 -

What SparkSpringtime said, SurferGirl. You are getting a little closer each day. It's hard to kick a YEARS long habit in a few short months. Do what you can to even cut back a little when you can. Hang in there!4

@SparkSpringtime69 Unfortunately, I already caved for today. I woke up feeling pretty poorly this morning. For the last several days, I've been drinking a bit more than I had been; a pint and a half pint (which is 575 ml). So I asked my husband to go to the store to get me a pint (375 ml) to take the edge off. That will be all for today! I'm sure I'll be successful tomorrow! Not one more day delaying the inevitable!!! Thanks for caring 🙂5

Thanks @chicbuc I know I'll have good news real soon!1

Hello LA friends,
Here we are, it's almost the end of the month. I'm not quite going to meet my goal as the last two weekends I've had some alcohol. I've had 20 AF days so far this month and my goal was 25. There are only 4 days left in the month, so my goal is no longer possible.
However, I'm still proud of myself as I've been quite stressed lately and alcohol used to be a major coping mechanism for that for me. Last night after a long day at work and with kids I was exhausted, stressed, discouraged, everything... I briefly thought about having a drink and I did kind of grieve the fact that I'm not a daily drinker anymore for a moment. But then I looked across the dinner table at my kids. I feel really proud that I am now an adult in their life who is not drinking all the time. When they were younger, that is the adult they saw in their life. Everyday with a glass (or 3 or 4) of wine. That realization and sitting with them in that moment made that desire completely go away.
My in laws were visiting last weekend and when we are entertaining I always like to enjoy a few drinks. I try not to make my alcohol days ones where there is some kind of special significance going on. My standards are pretty low for that (yes, watching a game or something on the TV with my husband occasionally counts, LOL).
So far in September,
20/26 days. I'm not counting today yet, but I don't think I'll be indulging.
Have a great Friday all!

@shorepine You should be proud of yourself. Those are awesome numbers!1

Do you ever find that making a list
1. 2 loads of laundry today
2. Weed the petunias
3. Make doctor's appointment
Is so satisfying that it takes the place of the actions, so that end of day, laundry is undone, weeds are still in place, and the doctor has not heard from you ??
Claiming an AF Day in the AM works that way for me...by dinnertime that meal prep glass of Chianti is in hand. No idea how the it got there.....5 -

@forestdweller1.. YES! Those damn liars get in the way! But, I still write them.🙄🤦🏻♀️🤣
That damn magic bottle of wine showed up on my countertop again today. Walked through the kitchen to out the dog in his kennel, so he’d leave the medical transport people alone when they picked up MIL, and there it was! Just sitting there.
Debated a lot tonight on drinking it. In the end, decided against it. I have too much to do this weekend my son’s girlfriend and her family are coming over for a movie night tomorrow, and we are celebrating my oldest granddaughter’s birthday on Sunday. The cleaning, baking, and cooking triathlon begins in the morning.7 -

@NonnieDoiron you're the cleaning/baking/cooking triathlete! Add shopping Curious to hear what you'll make. Will you have non-alcoholic drinks?
Usually my guests are my grown kids and their fiancee or the girlfriend of the month. Half the gang doesn't drink since they have a long drive back and the other half drinks like fish. Usually, I buy tequila and a few different wines and usually one of them brings the latest bourbon in fashion or whatever. I'll probably intentionally only buy alcohol I dislike (rum) because if I buy tequila, I may tempt myself and drink it. I will have to plan out what I will drink though. I'm contemplating breaking out the blender and going all out making at least 2 types of not mocktails, one fruity and one not sweet. I have to get up to speed on the latest mocktail recipes.4 -
27 days AF done and day 28 is here. The wine devil in my head sent me a crazy thought: "Hey, day 30 is coming, you can drink then since 30 days AF is enough and you deserve it; you don't need to keep going AF now, you're fine to drink 1-2 drinks now".
So yeah, the wine devil still pops into my head challenging me. I haven't been able to get rid of him yet . My mind told him to go to hell.7 -

After last Sunday's drinking event at a bar watching football. I thought I would be sober this past week to get more AF days. I literally took one hour at a time, and one day at a time. This weekend, I'm at a lake house with friends who are all drinking. I told my husband don't pack me any alcohol just seltzer. I don't mind that they're all drinking. I am abstaining this weekend, because I don't want to have yet another day 1.5 -
@RubyRed427 That must be hard abstaining when everyone else is drinking. I know what you mean about having another Day 1. Day 1's are hard to achieve and usually aren't that pleasant either!4

@globalhiker I did most of my cleaning yesterday, and the family we had over last night are incredibly picky eaters. So, it was chicken tenders, full-sized hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls, grapes, chips and dip, and cheese and crackers. All the adults had wine last night. I drank my wine, and everyone else had sangrias. But, I don’t feel bad today, and I didn’t get drunk not even tipsy. So, that was good.
Today, I am baking cookies for the granddaughter because she’s not a fan of cake. I stack them and put a candle in the top cookie. She requested penne with pasta sauce. So, she just wants my spaghetti with penne pasta instead of spaghetti noodles. She and I both like the short pastas over spaghetti noodles. So, I’ll be making that with Italian sausage, meatballs, Parmesan garlic bread, and salad. I make my own sauce and meatballs, so it takes all day.
Today, after church, I’ll be cooking/baking until they arrive. Tonight, I may drink the rest of my wine with dinner, but I might skip it. We’ll see.

Good morning my LA friends!
Happy Sunday!
I survived 2 get gatherings where alcohol was flowing and Friday felt a little tempted but I stayed true to myself and I am proud to say I didn't cave to the peer pressure. One more event today but I feel confident I can be alcohol free again today.
