Thank you, Barbie, as usual - even in a day full of uproar, you still thought of us, and we are ever grateful. Here's to October!

Rebecca - Every body is different, as is every situation... I know the eagerness for the results of this colonoscopy for your youngest is part of the stress, but if his colonoscopy is clear he'll probably not be suffering from the procedure. For me the worst part was before not after and I think that is mostly true. That of course could be different if the procedure is not clear. Holding on for a good outcome.

Yep, just trying to remain positive. Know he's probably just sleeping. I am being kind of a "helicopter mom" but knowing there's no one there just sucks.😥💖

Machka - Even the government has given up on Covid here, they seem to be more worried about RSV now.

Heather - happy that John is joining something, I think it’s important for men to make friends and do things.
    Lovely photo of the Grands.

Lisa - I have faith you’ll get that wallet figured out.
I think I read somewhere that it was light bulbs that started that planned obsolescence.
I love your bag and label! Brilliant that you had Kim’s help.
I saw another idea for a small thing for you….. oops.😬

Lanette - we ordered calendars at work early this month because they go out of stock so fast.
Staples stores used to sell those little planner books you’re looking for.

Annie - I grew up with a wringer washer, my Mom hung everything outside regardless of the temperature. I remember bringing jeans in off the line that would stand on their own.
My grandmother had one too and she also boiled her towels and bedding on the wood stove. I loved laundry day. She used Mrs. Stewart’s bluing agent. Since her name was Mrs. Stewart I thought it was hers. I found a bottle of it at an antique store in 2018 and grabbed it. It’s above my washer on a shelf.

Rebecca - Biggest hugs to you. It will be a tough day. Hopefully those two years speed by for you.

I turned on CNN yesterday to see if I could see what was happening with Helene. I saw Asheville, NC is that near Michele?
Happy to read that she has been in touch.

Most of this is from yesterday (Sunday) I was late getting home from my dinner with Kaitlyn and her MIL that I ended up not posting.

Read through today (Monday) and am tired so didn’t take many notes.

Carol - thank you for the compliment. I have been having problems with technology today too. Frustrating when it doesn’t work like it should.

Barbie - Glad Jake will be home with you tonight.
    I can’t believe it’s October already.
The days are going so fast.

My boss fell today at work. Construction workers made a tripping hazard right outside our office door and she fell hard. The nurses convinced her to go see a doctor to be on the safe side. She has a bad knee and of course that’s what she landed on. I hope she is ok.

Thanks Barbie. Hope Jake is doing well and enjoys his Taco Time.

I went to chair yoga today and can really feel it tonight. She worked a lot on hips and balance.

Today’s gratitude: the “Two exercises women over 60 should do” YouTube that Lisa recommended. They really DO make my body feel better ;)
Heather are the grands all in the same cycling group/team? Great pic, but wow all their activities, their poor parents must be exhausted!
Carol, thanks! Alas it’s but a fraction of what needs doing there… ;{ Brava for fixing your pc. You go gal!
Lanette just got notice form AARP Medicare rX that Joe’s Part D premium will almost double next year from $48.80 to $83.80/month. My Aetna Silverscript premium will increase by a factor of 10!!! from $3.30/month to $35.90/month. Deductibles up (e.g mine from $280 (tiers 2-5) to $590,) and co-pays going up a like amount.
Will definitely go through the plan choice exercise as his eyedrops are $$$pendy, and my Pravastatin should be cheap. SMH!
Rita “supper of popcorn and wine” sounds healthier than the ice cream sundae I’m contemplating for tomorrow night… :naughty:
Debbie thanks so much for the Michele update.
Lisa impressive and beautiful! Any pics of the scrunchie? Any with sparkle???
Kim Yay for Lisa’s labels!!! Yours to Rebecca, truth.
Tina good luck with the plan and with the eye.
Mo you say “revived a little one” so casually. Bless you and the work you do day and night.
Allie sure hope the antibiotics knock that UTI out before your cruise. ((hugs))
Tracey “…grandmother boiled her towels and bedding on the wood stove…” makes me extra thankful for my washing machine and dryer. That generation was made of stern stuff!
Sue hips and balance, sounds like the BB&B class that wiped me out this morning. How often is your chair yoga class?
No declutter challenge progress today but did go back to Better Bones and Balance class for the first time in weeks. Wiped me out so I couldn’t finish line dance class. Hope to build stamina back up next month, starting Wednesday ;)
Today was warm, tomorrow will be even warmer, Chetco effect had Brookings near 90F, warmer than Medford! Need to get out into the garden and water remaining plants early, before declutter challenge, chiropractor and massage.
    Will summarize September tomorrow.
    Later, lighter, lovelies!

Love the bag, Lisa! Great colour, and Kim's labels are spot on. I would buy that. :D Sometimes zips are a pain, and, provided you are not walking around Barcelona, the magnetic things are better. I like an inside zip pocket for a credit card wallet. Twice that has saved me from robbery, as they only pickpocketed my money wallet, with not much in it. London tube, and Madrid street.

Barbara - Yes, it's non-stop activities. Sometimes DDIL joins in with the cycling for cyclocross. But Edie has to get up at 5.30 on Wednesdays for swimming, she plays football for a good team, they all have music lessons, and Bea and Edie have Sunday swimming and Bea has theatre school Saturdays. Max does a lot at school and can get on a train and bus now by himself. He's not keen on much, except cycling, and sailing, being more of the computer type. I always said, 'hope your child isn't good at anything'! :#
Edie is obsessed with her physical activities and loves triathlon. :o
Bea would spend every minute at stage school. Her life is a constant performance.
They also do Art in the holidays.
    Phew!

So, no pick up today. I am going to have a go on the recumbent bike and rower today. Did some exercises in the two hours I was awake in the night. Sooooo stiff!

Barbie - Thank you for another month and I'm so glad Jake's journey and procedure was OK. I am so grateful that all our medical stuff is nearby. Our major NHS hospital is a free bus ride away. I used to get an £8 Uber to my operation hospital. Our doctor is at the top of our road and the dentist, not much further. As I get older I value these things more and more.

Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

    Good Morning Friends...Thank you Barbie!

It took four days to get rid of water weight from eating that high salty meal. Down in the 155's again this morning. I looked it up online and it said yes you can gain up to five pounds in water retention from a highly salty meal and it can take several days to lose the water weight. Lesson learned if something tastes highly salty only take a bite and throw out the rest or if possible rinse before eating it. I do eat some cheese and an occasional pickle and do not have the reaction I had to that meal. It was hot during those four days so that is what might have also made it take longer to get rid of that water weight!

It seems when friends want to get together they want to go out to eat. I am going to start suggesting they come over for coffee or go for a walk with me and Drew. Not to say I won't go out to eat I just want to make it less often. If I do go out I will be more careful about what I order.

I wandered round to the Co-op before lunch. I wanted to stock up on the curry sauce we have become addicted to. :) I bought John some mincepies (Christmas sweet treat) which he likes.

Just heard that the Foreign Office has warned against going to any Arab countries, including Tunisia, where we were going on the cruise I had to cancel because of the insurance problems. That is the second time I have had to cancel visiting Carthage (ancient enemy of Rome) but I don't suppose Saga will go there now against advice. I would have been very disappointed. Did you learn about Hannibal crossing the Alps with his elephants? He was Carthaginian.

Allie - I'm curious about your insurance situation vis a vi the cruise. Was it expensive?

    Love Heather UK xxxxxx

We went to a produce stand yesterday to pick up veggies to go in curry- first time for me making it. Usually MIL makes it and it is pretty good but she leaves the pork in huge pieces and not as much veggies as we would like so I will try making it. DH isn't a huge fan of it but maybe it is just the way she makes it/the fact that it is her making it/she made it too often growing up, but, he is the one that asked for it.

Barbie ... thank you for taking us into October! And glad to hear Jake is well ...

September goal was to be lighter at the end of the month. I stayed the same which is not good at all with my current weight.

I am reevaluating my path forward. I have been maintaining a fasting lifestyle for nearly 5 years now and, as I review my numbers, my weight has been hovering at a level I'm not thrilled with. Blood labs are good with the fasting lifestyle, but not as much weight loss as I would like. So, I need a push to lose more. I am struggling with some loss of taste ... the result of my cochlear implant surgery ... and I'm grazing more than I should looking for something to taste good. So that obviously needs to stop. I will start counting calories again too to pinpoint where I'm sabotaging myself. And October's goal will be to weigh less at the end of the month.

    Beth near Buffalo
I have that problem too- do great not eating until after noon or later but afternoon/evening find myself snacking too much- just a bite of this then another of something else. Weight is stuck at the same too. Loose a pound then gain it back.
    Need to start tracking again.

:)Margaret I made a similar decision a few years ago like you did, to invite my friends for a walk rather than a restaurant meal. I can't do that with a couple that wants to see Jake and me, but alone, it works great.

:)Rita, My mother used to carry a plastic bag with her on her walks to pick up litter. You're right that such walks to add up to as many steps but add some good bending and stretching.

:)Vicki, great news about your bathroom

    Good morning ladies!

Thank you Barbie for getting us going in a new month. Glad to hear Jake made it back home.

Barbara - ya, these Part D increases are staggering. So I'm a little concerned if there will also be big leaps in the Medigap plan I have - I won't know until after the first of the year as the renewal date is in April. These large increases are a big surprise, but yet they aren't. Everything else is going up. :(

Lisa - wish I had long hair so I could buy one of your scrunchies. The purses are awesome. Isn't it a great feeling to be in the creative "zone"? It just makes everything better, doesn't it? I'm sure Tracey and others of you who craft and create get a similar lift. :p

Tracey - thanks for the tip about Staples, and the datebooks. I'll stop by. I have the very same memories of my Mom doing laundry with the wringer washer. It was down in the basement so Mom carried laundry baskets with wet clothes up those narrow stairs and hung them outside in even freezing weather (freeze drying!) or on lines strung in the living room where the heater was. The clothes dryer conked out and my folks couldn't afford to fix it for a while. We kids thought it was funny to see the frozen pants stand up when first brought into the house.

Heather - sorry to hear about your brother but yes, he's in the best place for care right now. This getting older isn't fun when it comes to health problems.

    Allie
    - hope your UTI is on the run!

I saw Dr. D this morning about my foot.
Only a 20 minute wait, which was fine. He said my curling toes will only get worse as I age, but the trajectory can be slowed down (not reversed however) by continuing calf and hamstring stretches several times a day. Sitting undoubtedly contributes to the problem so instead of just walking around every 20 minutes, I need to incorporate calf and hamstring stretches, sit-to-stands, etc. As far as my lifting baby toe -- when it gets bad enough, surgery. Hopefully I have a long way to go before it gets to that point.

He also said I might try pressure relieving insoles like diabetics wear which reduce friction and the corns on the bottom of my one curling toe. They really aren't expensive at all, might give them a try at some point.

He told me a scary story. He said yesterday over lunch he went for a walk - the hospital/clinic complex is bordered by a country road. He walked by an area with small trees and bushes, thought he heard something but didn't see anything so kept going. On the way back, however, there was a figure in black standing beside the road. He showed me a photo on his phone. The guy was dressed in black pants and a long leather coat and was wearing a straight white wig. As he walked by he noticed the guy was holding a butcher knife! So he ran back to his office and called security. Said he's going to start carrying bear spray. I really wish he'd get a walking partner. If something happened to him this community would be lost - he's the best foot and ankle surgeon around. :#

Is it me, or is the world getting more like a Stephen King novel every day?

We're supposed to hit the mid-70's for a few hours this afternoon and a little cooler but still sunny on Wednesday and Thursday. It's windy but I'm going to get a coat of stain on the deck and maybe on top of the deck rails. It's not the best time of year to apply it, but it's the best time for me since the weather is cooler and perfect for outside chores. :p
