Barbie - thank you for bringing us into November. Hope nothing serious for Jake - I'm sure he'll be under good care at the hospital. (((HUGS)))

Barbie, I am so glad Jake went to the hospital. Now, the medical team can do a full workup on him and see what is going on. It is scary to experience shortness of breath. I always say better safe than sorry. I am praying for you. I wish I could do more.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi4 -
Barbie - I hope Jake is getting some answers and home soon.
Thanks for the new month.
I’ve been reading along but not taking notes.

Hugs Barbie! He's in good hands, best place for him to be.👍🏼🙏. I hope things calm for Jake and you. Big hugs!
Thanks for starting us off on the right foot.
Mo what is M16? I don't think I have any skin issues on my scalp, just trying to give it a rest.👍🏼

Barbie - Sending hugs. And a big thanks for your presence. Amazing that you still showed up for us.
I was soooo achey all night. At 6 am I decided it was because I hadn't done any exercises yesterday as I was too busy writing in the morning. So I got up and managed 25 mins. Feel so much better.
Big love to all those with health challenges, and for their loved ones.
My brother dislodged his feeding tube again with vomiting, and had to go to the ER to have it put back in. They let him home after bloods and obs. He is weak and tired and still on some morphine, but his wife said there are now flashes of the old Richard, and he flirted with the nurses. He is not yet feeling up to a phone call.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx7 -
Morning, all - and hoping for the best possible outcomes, Barbie. It is stressful on all of you, I know, the pups, too. You are supremely good at taking care of those around you - don't forget to take care of you.
Heather - Glad to hear your brother is doing better. Hope he's doing well enough so you can hear his voice soon. Hard to be far away, but hard to be in the middle of it all, too. Glad the exercise helped. The weather is wreaking havoc with my joints and muscles here.
More later,
Love,
Lisa in AR1 -
John and I spent a happy half-hour sorting out our Christmas cake and pudding supplies. My two mixed spice jars were dated 2014 and 2018, so they went in the trash. I kept most of the dried fruit, though we have to buy more, because it will be fine once it's soaked in brandy for 24 hours! Mixed peel needs replacing though.
I'm making a gluten free Christmas pudding for my son, and maybe Edie, so I've ordered GF suet from Amazon. I'm not sure why it's vegan though!
John adores Christmas cake and makes his own every year, with my supervision. It has to 'mature', so needs to be made nowish.
Flushed with success from that, I managed to kill off the dinosaurs and let the early proto mammals loose on the planet. More than 500 words.
Much love to all. Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Barbie-hoping Jake is calming. Sometimes getting full reassurance is needed for all of you.
Heather-your brother is a trooper. I can't imagine a feeding tube. Good that flashes of old self are returning.
Continue to be busy. Brother with Alzheimer's is having more problem with voices, and they are evil. They are upping meds. He told me he is very scared. I told him I would be more worried if he wasn't scared. There was a pause and he said "you are right-it's good I know this isn't normal." I questioned my sanity yesterday. I swear I had been told of someone passing. I mentioned it at meeting yesterday and I was only one who heard it! Don't know if my source was confused or what. Happy to hear not true!
I have been reading along but work, family and health keeping me busy. Health update:Thyroid tumor marker took a 10 point jump since July. Moving up scans to see if they can find anything. Get a head to toe PET scan and a CT scan in next week. Good new is deductible and co-pay met. So, I decided to get pilar cysts on scalp removed. Have three of them and two are just annoying. Doing that next Friday. Annual checkups good-so there is that! But gyn tested me yesterday based on symptoms and I do indeed have yet another raging UTI. Got started on antibiotics. They will update me on culture results
Annie-I have had flares of diverticulitis off and on for years. I have a prescription called bentyl (dicyclomine) that helps with the spasms. Don't need it much anymore-maybe a couple of times a year.
Allie-good to see your family all together.
Need to get stretches in before I go to a work breakfast meeting. As an added bonus I pulled some muscles in lower back. It is improving but as someone else said, as we get older it takes longer to bounce back. Then one other meeting offsite. Technically working from home today.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio7 -
Happy November ladies!
Thank you Barbie for giving us a clean slate. I hope Jake gets some reassurance from the doctors.
Okie in the TX Hill Country3 -
Good morning beautiful ladies!
Allie Delia has a beautiful smile in that picture! And good to see Carmine.
Barbie hope Jake feels better. And thank you for the thread!
Ginny thanks for the diverticulitis info. Sorry you have such a bundle of health issues.
I'm thinking of going to the ER. I could get that CT scan I need. I'm resisting because I would have to take Dad. And because it's just a royal nuisance. But I do have a new symptom. Hmm. If I'm wrong and it's not what I thought I saw, they won't freak. If it is, then I need help. I guess I better check it out.
Have a great day! Any day without hospitals or police is a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Barbie- thinking of both you and Jake and hope they get down to the bottom of whatever is going on.Im so sorry that Annie is upset..2

Thank you all for your kind words. Jake has a complicated heart with stents and a pacemaker/defibrillator. When they diagnosed his heart problems in 2005, the doctor said he had another 10-15 years so we are living on borrowed time and grateful for every moment of it. Since then he has developed respiratory issues that required two different inhalers and blood cancer that is being treated with daily chemo pills. They kept him in the hospital (the local one) overnight. I have to go over with meds at 8 AM.

Thinking of you today Tracey. I imagine that it is a very emotional day.

Hugs for Barbie and Jake prayers too.
I’ve had enough of deaths here at the park. Yesterday afternoon, the ranger came and told us that Jim (95 year old) who had been here for over 20 years had died. He shot himself. The head ranger we have here was making him leave. Jim didn’t have anywhere to go and no family to speak of. He was to leave yesterday. The superintendent went to check on him and see if he was ready to leave and found him. So sad. I had the task of telling some of the people from here that knew and worked with Jim and us. Not fun.

Barbie ... praying for Jake. I take medical life predictions with a grain of salt. Changes is medical treatments, stellar care from family, will to live ... these things can change a prediction. I was told my son would live 24 hours after his birth ... he lived 34 years ... Hugs. Thank you for moving us into November.
Ginny ... praying your test results do not reveal new problems
Vicki ... thinking of you and this last day at work. Tomorrow is a new day and a new chapter awaits you. I have to believe that good things are in store!
Heather ... I very much enjoy hearing about your different activities! Christmas pudding!
Had exactly 6 trick or treaters yesterday. More than most years! My mom's long-term care facility hired an Elvis Impersonator ... absolutely the last thing my mom wanted to do ... but staffed talked her into attending. I joined mid-show after discovering she was in attendance and not in her room. And while she wouldn't admit it, she had a good time!
Not happy with my October results ... stayed the same weight-wise. Goal for November is to be lighter at the end of the month.

Rita, I am in tears over the fate of Jim. I don’t know what to say. I can’t even process what I am feeling - anger, sadness, futility, all of the above.
Barbie, prayers for Jake and you.

Hi Gals,
Machka – I do not consider my house that big, it is 1,000 sq feet. I just have made a priority to guests.
Barbie – sending good thoughts to you, Jake, and Annie - so stressful. But I know you will handle it all with grace. Thank you for caring for us during the busy time. As Lisa said please take care of yourself too.
Rita – glad you are able to get some of the medical stuff taken care of. I am with KatieBug in being heart broken to hear of Jim, really what harm would have happened to let him live the rest of his life out in the campground. Some rules are so heartless.
Pictures from all are amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Things here continue to be in a big of upheaval as my housemate settles in and gets his stuff moved. So much more stuff than I originally thought. But it is helping me re-think my stuff and the quantity of it.
Thinking of you all,
Kim in N. California

Wow, such a lot of news since I last checked in this morning!
Ginny - Upsetting news about your health. It looks as though you are getting excellent treatment. Sorry about the (expletive) back and UTI. I'm just waiting for my next one.
Rita - Poor man. And so sorry for the guys who will blame themselves.
Annie - Hugs.
Anyone I've missed, hugs for you.
My son rang me this afternoon to ask me if I could have the girls for an 'Inset' day on Monday. That's a kind of teacher training day. We said yes, of course.
They enjoyed themselves in Scotland, with decent, fairly warm weather. My ex was OK, and will be starting dialysis soonish. They have been holding out as long as possible. He can now walk a couple of hundred yards as is getting stronger. My son gives him 2 to 5 years. The journey home was slow, especially around London. 11 hours.
In the post today I got a present of a book from my schoolfriend P. It's called The Dark Flood Rises, by Margaret Drabble. It's about old age and P liked it so much she is sending it to all her friends. Nice idea.
I also got some thermal socks I ordered, because I was fed up with having cold feet. I didn't want really thick ones, because then they won't fit in my shoes and slippers. These are Heat Holders Lite. So far, excellent. I have warm feet for the first time. I wear socks all year, including in bed, unless it is 85° plus. My father always had cold feet.
Zoom in a minute with my schoolfriends. G is off on her first ever cruise tomorrow. Not Saga, but I hope she enjoys it. Just to a few ports in Northern Europe. Exciting!

Well I went to the ER and got my CT scan. No perforation or obstruction. Just mild diverticulitis. So continue with the liquid diet. I've lost ten pounds now.
But my patience is coming to an end. This is the first year ever that I haven't had Halloween candy. At this point, just some yogurt would be wonderful. But all I've got is tea and chicken broth.
I was going to clean up the guest room today but that can wait. I need to go to CVS for my next round of antibiotics, and pick up Dad. Then make his dinner.

Rita … so very sorry to hear about Jim …so unnecessary and senseless3
-
Rita so sad to hear of the terrible fate of your Jim. Was he happy though, before they told him he had to leave? Happy with life, friends and such? 95 years old is a long life, and hopefully he wasn't with lots of pain issues. It was his solution to a dire situation.😥.
Do you remember me speaking of my neighbor Prudence, when I lived in an apartment building at the Oregon coast? She was in her late 80's and really quite bitter about how her life was. She was angry with life and I felt so bad about that. I hope when I get old like that, I will not be a grumpy Gus, and no fun to be around. I think it has a lot to do with health issues, pain can take over all other feelings. Because I do feel like I have such a low tolerance to pain, any health issues will need to be addressed with a fair amount of coping meds. I don't want to burden Lee with an angry wife. Maybe just continuously nibble on the infused edibles like a gerbil might me the way to go. "Oh grandmas higher than a kite, but at least she's happy".
Yesterday I didn't buy anything sweet, but I did buy a container of shredded chicken from Safeway. I have three large bags of frozen chicken broth in the freezer so buying a whole chicken seemed silly. First time I have run outta chicken before broth. I have been eating my chicken salad like 3 times a week which really makes me happy. Just a 1/2 apple, handful of chopped celery, handful of chopped chicken, a handful of shredded cabbage, some chopped walnuts and a dressing of a blob of mustard, mayo, splash of ACV, salt & pepper, and some old Bay. It is a great fall salad!
I am buying online a boars hair brush to help with my new experiment of not using shampoo. This should keep my scalp healthy, and promote good circulation. Its the most expensive brush ever!
Today is bill paying I need to do, and the vacuum might actually get turned on.
Hugs ladies!

Heather I found that book in my online library/Kindle and checked it out.👍🏼 Tell your friend her sending it to you, and you mentioning it here, it is being read by an old gal on Whidbey island in Washington state. Probably an outcome she never thought would happen.😁

Yikes I guess the First of November has been a day..
Rita- so sorry to hear about Jim..
Barbie- will keep both you and Jake in my prayers..
Annie - God Bless
My best friends dad passed today.. he had been battling Alzhimers and had been in a home for quite some time.. Doris is the only one left out of our parents except for my friend Lori Os parents ,but we have so many wonderful memories for sure.
Doris made out well..
Im home and going to take a nap.2 -
Annie - great news that it's just mild diverticulitis. Now you'll know what to look for/how it feels if it recurs and to get to the doc quickly for antibiotics.
Barbie - sending hugs. Hope Jake feels good enough to come back home.
Rita - so, so sad to hear about Jim. Where did they expect him to go? That park was his life. I'm curious - was he living in a camper and if so, did he have a working vehicle to tow it elsewhere if he were able to find a new place to land? Do you know why he was asked to leave? I agree with Beth and Kim, seems that decision was pretty heartless. I think there are a lot of depressed and lonely elderly out there, they seem to stay hidden.
Allie - nice photo of the whole family with Carmine and Seth there too. I hope now that Delia has arrived, Carmine will grow closer to her parents. Do you think she has grown up a bit since moving out?
Ginny - I don't blame you for getting as many medical things done before the end of the year now that you've met your deductible. Praying things are clear with your upcoming scans. Sorry to hear about the UTI - hope the antibiotics get that kicked to the curb. It's so interesting that your brother with Alzheimer's is hearing evil voices, I wonder how common that is? Glad you are able to talk to him.
Margaret - I saw a weather report on FB this morning - snow in the twin cities. Any of that hitting you? The weatherman who reported it was happy and excited. If I lived there I'd invite him to shovel my sidewalk.
Heather - glad your Ex is doing OK and will be on dialysis soon. I think about your brother a lot. (HUGS)
Kylia, KJ Kelly and Rosemarie -thinking of you gals! Hope things are going well!
Some happy news: My friend T's granddaughter was finally born yesterday morning at 3:33, mom was in labor 29 hours. All are doing well and everyone is exhausted, including the grandmothers. They dressed baby up in her first Halloween costume.
