Barbie, thanks for a new month. Thinking of you and Jake, hoping for the best possible outcome.
Rita, sorry to hear the news about Jim. That does sound so very cruel for the powers that be to be forcing him to move on when he’s been there for so long already. Sad situation all around.

I’ve been reading along but not taking notes. Life has been throwing some stressors my way and my diet and exercise have certainly suffered. Decided, after I typed it all out to put the following in a spoiler, family stuff, kinda depressing, feel free to skip it.

    .
This spring I lost an aunt and two uncles over an 8 day period. In September we had a cousins reunion, which was great, eleven out of twelve made it there! I made a point of visiting an aunt and uncle on the way there and booked an extra day at the end to see another aunt, a widow to one of the uncles that were lost earlier. She surprised us all by showing up at the reunion! One of her granddaughters drove her out. Hubby and I still stopped and had a visit with her at her home. Got a text from one of her sons about ten days ago saying she had fallen and ended up with complications and an infection. The infection ended up being necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating disease). The drs were ready to amputate her leg, but she refused to go that route. She passed away a few days later, gone to be with her hubby of 70 years, their eldest daughter and many other family members. She would have turned 89 this month. This only leaves one of my moms siblings (and her hubby) and I don’t think they will be hanging around much longer either. They are both in their 90’s and pretty much done with the whole business. It’s all very sad, but at the same time, they’ve all had good lives and we are all left with good memories. I am so glad that I took the time to see them whenever I had the chance.

Vicki, thinking of you today, sending many hugs. I am a firm believer in everything happening for a reason, something better must be out there for you!
Allie, so nice to see Carmine with the family. Even if she doesn’t looked thrilled about the whole thing at least she showed up!
Tracey, it makes me so happy to hear about your new job. Even if some of it seems to be set up strangely at least you are working with good people. Such a change from your last place of employ!
Lisa, love the pic of Egg sprawled across the laptop, lol, she is a cat!! Emotional support llama??? (she said, rolling her eyes….)

We get a lot of tv channels from the US and now that’s enrolment time for Medicare we see all the commercials. Watching them, and reading about what you all go thru, just makes me shake my head. What a convoluted system. Ours is far from perfect (try to find a family gp!!) but we don’t have to choose between health care and groceries! Sometimes have to sit in the ER or at an urgent care facility for hours tho.

Okay enough from me. Congrats to those celebrating, hugs for those who need them and welcome to the new gals!

Hugs for Barbie and Jake prayers too.

I’ve had enough of deaths here at the park. Yesterday afternoon, the ranger came and told us that Jim (95 year old) who had been here for over 20 years had died. He shot himself. The head ranger we have here was making him leave. Jim didn’t have anywhere to go and no family to speak of. He was to leave yesterday. The superintendent went to check on him and see if he was ready to leave and found him. So sad. I had the task of telling some of the people from here that knew and worked with Jim and us. Not fun.

Geez, I’m so sorry to hear that. How sad

Jeanne – you can do this. I’m nowhere near tech savvy and I can do it, so you can too.

Now Rita – I’m fully expecting alien Halloween things from you!!!! Good looking (???) grandson

Mo – I always sweat buckets when I do step aerobics, too. I know that exercising for me is a great stress reliever. Whenever I get stressed Vince says to me “go to the Y, just go to the Y”

Got ice from BK for our fog machine. Planning to have a bowl of popcorn on the table while TorT is on so that, hopefully, I’m not tempted (too much) by the candy.

Allie – how wonderful that Carmine and Seth came to see the goblins. And do they ever look adorable!

We had a zoom with the condo assoc. It was to be about the budget. This one lady had a fire in her condo in, I guess it was around June. It seems that there is controversy about her contractor not getting info from the homeowner’s assoc so he can proceed with the work. Well, at this (remind you it was supposed to be about the budget) she was constantly talking about how they weren’t doing anything to get her condo rebuilt. Personally, I thought it was a bit rude. We’re there about the budget, not her condo. Admitted, she is frustrated and since the management company is there, she wanted to talk. But I think she could have talked to them after the meeting. It was interesting, tho, to find out that it’s not the homeowner’s assoc. that’s the backup but HER contractor who refuses to give them the information they need. The person running the meeting kept saying things after answering her question “now back to the budget” or “we’re here to talk about the budget”. You would think she’d have gotten the message.

    Had about 50 TorT’ers

barbie – I’m so sorry about Jake. How horrible for all of you!

Went for my fasting blood test today. My appt was for 9 and they didn’t take me until 9:30! Came home, had breakfast, then went to the soup kitchen. Came home and helped Vince take in the Halloween decorations. There’s just one thing we can’t do until the inflatables get dried out.

Made rice krispie bars and chocolate chip cookies. Jess should be here tomorrow to bring the menagerie.

Ginny – I never heard of a pilar cyst so I looked it up. Get this “people assigned female gender at birth are more likely to have them”. Talk about PC!

Annie – what kind of new symptom do you have? Take care of yourself, we need you Update: thank GOD you don’t have a perforation!

Rita – poor Jim! He must have felt so despondent. I realize that the campground can’t just let him live there. If they do it for one, they have to do it for everyone. But there isn’t SOMETHING that he could have done? Cleaned the bathrooms, take out the garbage, those sorts of things so that he could have stayed there? How long had he been living at the campground?

Allie – I’m sorry about your friends’ dad

Vicki – thinking of you today. I agree with Evelyn, things happen for a reason. I was made so unhappy at Food Lion that I quit. Which turned out to be a good thing. If I hadn’t quit, I wouldn’t be at Burger King. I truly enjoy the work. Yes, it’s not stressful and it’s not a lot, just what I wanted. So things do happen for a reason. Look at Tracey

I just ran across an hilarious obituary. I think I'll start writing my own, this one has inspired me. Since I never had one for DH, maybe I'll combine the two. :p

Barbara - Sounds like thrush. Which apparently even nuns get. :p In the UK, you can buy a pack of Canesten from Amazon. The cream soothes, but it's the pessary that kills the yeast off. I always have one to hand and take one on holiday with me. Haven't needed it in years!
Unfortunately, over here, the pharmacy requires you to check with your doctor if you are over 65. :# That's why I go the Amazon route.
The escalopes were veal, cut very thinly across the grain, in a long slice. Traditionally they are used for Weiner Schnitzel, but I season flour them, and show them the pan in a slick of butter. Sprinkle of lemon juice sometimes. I like something 'wet' with them, and sometimes sprinkle with chopped garlic, lemon zest, and a herb, like parsley. We like them pink in the middle. My butcher sells them ready cut and sealed individually. I have two in the freezer right now. :p

Sooo annoying about the GF vegan suet. Just because you can't eat gluten, doesn't mean you are a vegetarian. :#

Definitely going to do my roots today. It should then just about be OK still by Christmas.

Does anyone else have funny words for food? We are having asparagus tonight, with salmon. For no reason I can remember, I call it 'sparrowgrass'. I also call digestive biscuits, 'suggestive' biscuits, but I think that's quite common. I got that from a friend when we were first married.
I'm sure I have others, but I can’t think of them at the moment.
    Any of you?

LanetteWe had snow flurries and it was gone quickly. Still it reminds me to get that yard work done because winter is coming. I am having the gutters cleaned out today!

I ran out of candy about 7:30. With the candy I bought that meant about 60. I said this year I turn off lights at 8 or when candy runs out. I no longer eat this type of candy so I was glad to see it gone.

    (((Rita)))

BarbaraFlamingos don't glow in the dark. I actually bring them in on Halloween because occasionally things get legs and disappear. This year it was the two old hats on my scareman and woman. I thought they were safe because they were old and dumpy looking hats. I have other old hats for next year and I think I will just have a paper head on them next year and take hats inside on Halloween.

Many hugs, Annie - I have so much sympathy with your struggles with a clear liquid diet. I whined for weeks ahead of time and throughout my tussle with those for my various colonoscopies. Sugar-free Jell-O was truly my saving grace. I literally drank it AND ate it. And I know it's not good for your teeth, but I also picked up some fast food ice (because it's softer) and chewed on it constantly, just because I missed chewing something! The sugar-free was just because I'm sensitive to sugar. Regular Jell-O is fine for most people. And Better than Bouillion makes a very easy broth that tastes so much better than the little cubes.

Rita - I am so sorry about Jim's death and in particular, the cause and means. I can only imagine his state of mind.

Barbara - Might be worth it to pick up a treatment for a yeast infection, as Heather says. If it's just that overgrowth, it's easily treated--Walmart carries one-day, three-day and seven-day treatments, and has the Great Value brand, which are even cheaper. Tried those before I went to the gyno, for very similar symptoms. The creams helped my symptoms temporarily, but it ended up being a hormone and steroid treatment that I needed. The OTC creams won't hurt you, even if it's not thrush. If it continues after that, get thee to a gynecologist, please... or your primary care doc at a minimum.

Mo - You're a trooper. I hate being cold, too. One of the other reasons I crochet in the winters, in particular. 😹

Kim - It's always good to see you. I can see how it would be very hard to try to fit a settled life around someone completely new. Hope it all works out well, and I know you're enjoying having a dog around all the time again.

Sorry to anyone else I've missed while I had my head in the sand for a few days. Those were the ones I remembered.

Regarding October goals and November goals...

    ✅Be lighter - Yes! Down from 158 to 156
✅Be healthier - Also yay! Counted during the last week of October, and I'm down from an average of 20+ bathroom trips a day (when the Crohn's was at its worst) to an average of three. Some days are double that, but some days are less, and that means that my skin is healing, along with what's going on inside there. So happy! Next on-body injection of Skyrizi will be Nov. 12th - so pleased at how well it's working. Cardiologist scheduled on Tuesday, we'll see what he has to say.
✅Stick to the budget - Yes! We both kept it together after having to buy the washer at the end of September, and stayed within the budget. Very successful month, in the end.

And... the goals will be the same for November - Be lighter, be healthier and stick to the budget. For those who are new, you do not have to put your goals up here, you don't even have to HAVE goals. When I do, I've found that I do much better if I keep them vague. Specific goals make me a little doolally, and I find myself doing unwise things to accomplish them... but if I keep them at this higher level, I do much, much better.

OK, I'm procrastinating with y'all because I don't want to tear that cabinet apart or mop the kitchen floor. If I see a mouse, I'm going to have an eek-fest!😛 But I've girded my loins long enough, it's time to get moving. Egg's back inside. Maybe I'll let her climb inside that cabinet first... hmm... 😹😍😂

    Later, y'all,
    Love,
    Lisa

Barbie, I am sorry to hear about Jake. Is he in a Seattle hospital? A friend of mine is a heart surgeon and he was handling a complicated case yesterday involving a stent.

Barbara, this “not that kind of doctor” says yes, probably to you question.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes and the sweet comments on my turning 70 at Gibbs Garden picture. Dave gave me that shacket for Christmas last year. I love it with all of its autumn colors.

I have finally broken through my plateau. It feels good to see the scale moving again, as slow as it is.

Heather: sorry to hear that your brother had a problem with his feeding tube.

Barbie: I’m grateful that you keep us going with these new months. Glad to hear that Jake is back home with you.

It a dull mizzly day here. I’m ensconced in my lounge watching a programme on Guy Fawkes. Looking forward to Strictly Come Dancing tonight. It’s Icon week, so should be a good programme.

🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

Some info about Jim. He had been at this park for 20 years. He loved it here and told everyone he met he would die here. He was good natured and always had a smile for anyone he met. He used to drive through the park with a sign that had an old man on it with a large grin and the word SMILE written on it. People loved seeing him drive through. He always had a joke for the campers and had a ‘pet’ plastic roach on his desk. He loved anything alien too. The regional supervisor wanted him to leave because he had been here too long (us too). Volunteers are only supposed to stay 6 months. We have been here 6 years, Jim 20. He lived in his camper and had a pickup that he towed it here with years ago. The camper had not moved so I doubt it could have been towed anywhere. Its condition wasn’t very good. We all suspect he will haunt the visitor center, where he volunteered until his death.

To top everything off, we had a major storm here last night that dropped 8.75 inches of rain last night on our desert campground. Took out THE bridge to town and now have to drive 10 extra miles to get to town. This happened once before since we have been here. Campers hate it because the only way out is up a small town road (it is paved) up a 65 degree incline through a small town up to the next highway. Very inconvenient for everyone. The town didn’t flood this time, we did!

    RVRita in Roswell

Rita -thank you so much for the background information on Jim. After 20 years, the campground was his home. In a way, I can understand why he chose to leave campground on his own terms.

That was some rainstorm. Hope they can get the bridge fixed soon, they are probably working on the repairs in town right now.
