Barbie, thanks for a new month. Thinking of you and Jake, hoping for the best possible outcome.
Rita, sorry to hear the news about Jim. That does sound so very cruel for the powers that be to be forcing him to move on when he’s been there for so long already. Sad situation all around.
I’ve been reading along but not taking notes. Life has been throwing some stressors my way and my diet and exercise have certainly suffered. Decided, after I typed it all out to put the following in a spoiler, family stuff, kinda depressing, feel free to skip it.
.This spring I lost an aunt and two uncles over an 8 day period. In September we had a cousins reunion, which was great, eleven out of twelve made it there! I made a point of visiting an aunt and uncle on the way there and booked an extra day at the end to see another aunt, a widow to one of the uncles that were lost earlier. She surprised us all by showing up at the reunion! One of her granddaughters drove her out. Hubby and I still stopped and had a visit with her at her home. Got a text from one of her sons about ten days ago saying she had fallen and ended up with complications and an infection. The infection ended up being necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating disease). The drs were ready to amputate her leg, but she refused to go that route. She passed away a few days later, gone to be with her hubby of 70 years, their eldest daughter and many other family members. She would have turned 89 this month. This only leaves one of my moms siblings (and her hubby) and I don’t think they will be hanging around much longer either. They are both in their 90’s and pretty much done with the whole business. It’s all very sad, but at the same time, they’ve all had good lives and we are all left with good memories. I am so glad that I took the time to see them whenever I had the chance.
Vicki, thinking of you today, sending many hugs. I am a firm believer in everything happening for a reason, something better must be out there for you!
Allie, so nice to see Carmine with the family. Even if she doesn’t looked thrilled about the whole thing at least she showed up!
Tracey, it makes me so happy to hear about your new job. Even if some of it seems to be set up strangely at least you are working with good people. Such a change from your last place of employ!
Lisa, love the pic of Egg sprawled across the laptop, lol, she is a cat!! Emotional support llama??? (she said, rolling her eyes….)
We get a lot of tv channels from the US and now that’s enrolment time for Medicare we see all the commercials. Watching them, and reading about what you all go thru, just makes me shake my head. What a convoluted system. Ours is far from perfect (try to find a family gp!!) but we don’t have to choose between health care and groceries! Sometimes have to sit in the ER or at an urgent care facility for hours tho.
Okay enough from me. Congrats to those celebrating, hugs for those who need them and welcome to the new gals!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island

Hugs for Barbie and Jake prayers too.
I’ve had enough of deaths here at the park. Yesterday afternoon, the ranger came and told us that Jim (95 year old) who had been here for over 20 years had died. He shot himself. The head ranger we have here was making him leave. Jim didn’t have anywhere to go and no family to speak of. He was to leave yesterday. The superintendent went to check on him and see if he was ready to leave and found him. So sad. I had the task of telling some of the people from here that knew and worked with Jim and us. Not fun.

Geez, I’m so sorry to hear that. How sad2 -
Reading the new November chat makes me want to say prayers and give virtual hugs to all of you. There seems to be so many health and family problems going on amongst our little community. Just want you all to know that it is so good to be here among friends.

Lisa - that is just beautiful. Love those colors and pattern.
Lanette2 -
Jeanne – you can do this. I’m nowhere near tech savvy and I can do it, so you can too.
Now Rita – I’m fully expecting alien Halloween things from you!!!! Good looking (???) grandson
Mo – I always sweat buckets when I do step aerobics, too. I know that exercising for me is a great stress reliever. Whenever I get stressed Vince says to me “go to the Y, just go to the Y”
Got ice from BK for our fog machine. Planning to have a bowl of popcorn on the table while TorT is on so that, hopefully, I’m not tempted (too much) by the candy.
Allie – how wonderful that Carmine and Seth came to see the goblins. And do they ever look adorable!
We had a zoom with the condo assoc. It was to be about the budget. This one lady had a fire in her condo in, I guess it was around June. It seems that there is controversy about her contractor not getting info from the homeowner’s assoc so he can proceed with the work. Well, at this (remind you it was supposed to be about the budget) she was constantly talking about how they weren’t doing anything to get her condo rebuilt. Personally, I thought it was a bit rude. We’re there about the budget, not her condo. Admitted, she is frustrated and since the management company is there, she wanted to talk. But I think she could have talked to them after the meeting. It was interesting, tho, to find out that it’s not the homeowner’s assoc. that’s the backup but HER contractor who refuses to give them the information they need. The person running the meeting kept saying things after answering her question “now back to the budget” or “we’re here to talk about the budget”. You would think she’d have gotten the message.
Had about 50 TorT’ers
barbie – I’m so sorry about Jake. How horrible for all of you!
Went for my fasting blood test today. My appt was for 9 and they didn’t take me until 9:30! Came home, had breakfast, then went to the soup kitchen. Came home and helped Vince take in the Halloween decorations. There’s just one thing we can’t do until the inflatables get dried out.
Made rice krispie bars and chocolate chip cookies. Jess should be here tomorrow to bring the menagerie.
Ginny – I never heard of a pilar cyst so I looked it up. Get this “people assigned female gender at birth are more likely to have them”. Talk about PC!
Annie – what kind of new symptom do you have? Take care of yourself, we need you Update: thank GOD you don’t have a perforation!
Rita – poor Jim! He must have felt so despondent. I realize that the campground can’t just let him live there. If they do it for one, they have to do it for everyone. But there isn’t SOMETHING that he could have done? Cleaned the bathrooms, take out the garbage, those sorts of things so that he could have stayed there? How long had he been living at the campground?
Allie – I’m sorry about your friends’ dad
Vicki – thinking of you today. I agree with Evelyn, things happen for a reason. I was made so unhappy at Food Lion that I quit. Which turned out to be a good thing. If I hadn’t quit, I wouldn’t be at Burger King. I truly enjoy the work. Yes, it’s not stressful and it’s not a lot, just what I wanted. So things do happen for a reason. Look at Tracey

I just ran across an hilarious obituary. I think I'll start writing my own, this one has inspired me. Since I never had one for DH, maybe I'll combine the two.

Barbie, whooshing healing, comfort and blessings to Jake, you and the pooches. Deeply grateful that you were able to start us off for November despite all you’re going through. ((hugs held extra long)).
For all struggling with Medicare A, B, D, Medigap and/or Medicare C Advantage plans, contact your state SHIBA advisor for one on one counseling. https://www.shiphelp.org/about-medicare/regional-ship-location
Thanks$Carol! your maple. Do you know the variety? I often have to google Heather’s shopping list and menus, and sometimes the answers are inconclusive. Are escalopes veal cutlets or lamb chops? Your den project is inspiring. Taking it one wall at a time makes it seem possible… maybe… ;}
Okie yours, Beth’s, Machka’s et al’s to Allie about all the candy at the daycare. WOW.
Rebecca when do you visit Athena Rose and Eli again? Did y’all bob for apples at the clothing optional resort? Had the same question as Carol about your new hair protocol. Will be interested to learn how it works out. What you said about not wanting to be a grumpy Gus with age, even despite pain. I think loneliness is another factor, without other people to give us positive energy it could be easy to become bitter.
Kay belated best birthday wishes. I’m with Lanette, who is that spiffily dressed and coiffed 40 year old?
Lanette do you think a sunset maple would produce such a brilliant show here on the southern Oregon coast? Is the color dependent on the environment, soil, weather? Thanks for the baking soda and white vinegar tip. Read it too late for the cleanup of Moose’s upchucking today. No idea what triggered it, maybe the deer leg he brought Joe yesterday. SMH. Con VERY gratulations on the labs! T’s grand daughter is another cute little punkin.
Lisa love, your house. All your hard work really shows well. Love, love, that laptop runner, looks just like Egg! :laugh: Love, love :LOVE: the afghan you made for Corey. Never knew you could knit/crochet in plaid ;}
Machka I so admire your food resilience/independence, tireless research and caregiving. You are a true role model.
Heather ((hugs)). So hard to hear about your ex’s severely compromised health, hope the dialysis gives him some improved quality of life. Likewise to hear of your brother’s struggles. So brave of him to give flashes of his pre-cancer-treatment self despite the pain and vomiting. ((hugs held extra long)) Brava for all the writing! “GF Vegan Suet”? I thought suet was beef fat? You and Johnny inspire me to start Christmas baking… almond crescents first . . . Glad I no longer bake 17 lbs of fruitcake every Christmas, turned out I was the only one who liked it .
Annie does Jell-o count as liquid diet food? Beef bouillon? So sorry you’re going through this on top of your Dad’s issues. Would Teddy use a puppy pad? I believe all senior dogs need a safe place to go in an emergency. Saves them the guilt and makes the cleanup easier. Hope your sister will be there for the prep day too, it’s the worst part and you wouldn’t be able to help your dad from the throne…
Thanks Rita! Added headphones to my Amazon wish list. Such a sad story about Jim, and by extension so many other seniors who have no one left. Good luck with the PT and MIR!
Vicki thinking of you as you begin this new journey. Had to smile at the frozen broccoli Halloween treat
Margaret thanks for understanding about paper work piles. Keep us updated on attic progress, I could use the inspiration. Do those flamingo skeletons glow in the dark?
Allie congrats on the weight and its impact on the low grade lupus. Loved seeing Carmine and Seth sitting with her family. So relieved she is healthy, safe and probably happier than her expression would suggest Oh that Delia, what a little punkin!
Mo and Flea have I told you both lately how much I admire the work you do every day? The world is a better place because of you.
Belated welcome @PDizzleB ! thie pic of Turbo in his shark costume.
Ginny ((hugs held extra extra long) and prayers sent for clear scans.
Beth yours bout medical life predictions.
Evelyn ((hugs)) it is sad to see the last of a generation pass, and a reminder of what’s in store for us. ((hugs))
Michele fingers X'd for favorable lab results.
TMI UTI questionNo burning but plenty of itching and a little whitish discharge, could it be a UTI?Gratitudes:
Friday-Joe had a fire going in the wood stove when I got home from Medford. It was very welcome as I was windswept and storm-soaked.
Thursday-Eye Dr said cataracts are not too bad to wait awhile for $urgery. Dermatologist said my skin was the second best she’d seen that day, best was a 13 yo boy. No zap gun!!!
No decluttering progress, Sorry for the long post, was gone from home yesterday and today. Will summarize October results and November intentions tomorrow.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Barbara - Sounds like thrush. Which apparently even nuns get. In the UK, you can buy a pack of Canesten from Amazon. The cream soothes, but it's the pessary that kills the yeast off. I always have one to hand and take one on holiday with me. Haven't needed it in years!
Unfortunately, over here, the pharmacy requires you to check with your doctor if you are over 65. That's why I go the Amazon route.
The escalopes were veal, cut very thinly across the grain, in a long slice. Traditionally they are used for Weiner Schnitzel, but I season flour them, and show them the pan in a slick of butter. Sprinkle of lemon juice sometimes. I like something 'wet' with them, and sometimes sprinkle with chopped garlic, lemon zest, and a herb, like parsley. We like them pink in the middle. My butcher sells them ready cut and sealed individually. I have two in the freezer right now.
Sooo annoying about the GF vegan suet. Just because you can't eat gluten, doesn't mean you are a vegetarian.
Definitely going to do my roots today. It should then just about be OK still by Christmas.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Does anyone else have funny words for food? We are having asparagus tonight, with salmon. For no reason I can remember, I call it 'sparrowgrass'. I also call digestive biscuits, 'suggestive' biscuits, but I think that's quite common. I got that from a friend when we were first married.
I'm sure I have others, but I can’t think of them at the moment.
Any of you?
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx2 -
Heather - Got a few of those. Corey makes a mashed potato that's half russet, half sweet potato, and those are "pink mashed." Really good, by the way. Asparagus, from my own childhood, is "ash-puh-RAY-gus." Any chicken that comes with breading already on (one of his comfort foods), no matter the actual shape, is "oven chicken."
I've had to look up a number of your dishes as well... which is fine, adds to my vocabulary! I was just lamenting to Corey last night the fact that so few dishes have names anymore, just the list of ingredients. We only get named dishes in the U.S. if they're from other countries, like Mexico, France, Italy.
Thanks for the comments on the afghan, Lanette and Barbara. When I'm sitting with Corey in the evenings, watching C.R.A.P.-TV (there's another nickname for your list, Heather... 😂) I'm usually crocheting something. The color and color pattern are actually from the yarn itself, not from any color changes... I fell in love with that yarn, which is a bummer, as it has been discontinued. I'm already working on the next one, for my nephew and his wife, in their favorite colors. My kids and grandkids have all gotten at least one already!
I've read everyone's posts, but haven't responded much because I've been highly up in my own head of late, thinking through a couple things, trying to avoid the news until after Wednesday, as well. Too on edge to be verbal, I think. This coincided with Egg going through her every-other-year-or-so thing where she shuts all systems down for a couple days and just curls up in a corner. She's usually quite interactive (obviously from the pics, huh! 😹) so I always worry when she doesn't respond to us. She's back to her usual self this morning, so whatever it was passed. It's possible it was a mouse stomach-ache. She just walked cross my new keyboard and burped. Rude! 😍
I mention the mouse stomach-ache possibility because I woke up to a slightly flooded coffee corner in my kitchen. At some point, she had tipped over the small pitcher that we keep on the counter to fill up the Keurig, and I had left probably two cups or more of just water in there. There has been a little mouse evidence near the stove of late (and she may have been chasing one when she tipped over the pitcher). When the weather starts getting chilly, and the seeds, etc., disappear, the mice tend to invade the house.
So, I'm going to clean out that cabinet once my joints are lubricated with hot tea and sympathy, and then will mop the kitchen floor once it's light enough to get the rugs outside to dry. I needed to mop the floor in there anyway, as I noticed yesterday.
That's my exciting Saturday morning. Kinda scatty (but verbal!) today. Hope your weekend is going well.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Pip I am so proud of you and your running! Hope all goes well on Sunday!
Rita so sad for Jim. May he rest in peace.
Michele thanks!my latest symptom was black stool which could be internal bleeding but wasn't.
Barbara and the rest of you all, thanks for listening to me through all this.
I'm feeling a little weak and have a headache today. Tremendous urge to eat something, but the doctor wants "bowel rest" so still clear liquids.
My sister asked about surgery. First we wait for the inflammation episode to calm down. Then in January I get a colonoscopy, and then they will discuss surgery. That's my understanding anyway.
Teddy slept through the night! Yay! Barbara you are wise about a pee pad for older dogs.
I'm thinking about voting early today. Dad might need extra help. The law says people with dementia can vote, but in reality that's only if help is available.
Have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

LanetteWe had snow flurries and it was gone quickly. Still it reminds me to get that yard work done because winter is coming. I am having the gutters cleaned out today!
I ran out of candy about 7:30. With the candy I bought that meant about 60. I said this year I turn off lights at 8 or when candy runs out. I no longer eat this type of candy so I was glad to see it gone.
(((Rita)))
BarbaraFlamingos don't glow in the dark. I actually bring them in on Halloween because occasionally things get legs and disappear. This year it was the two old hats on my scareman and woman. I thought they were safe because they were old and dumpy looking hats. I have other old hats for next year and I think I will just have a paper head on them next year and take hats inside on Halloween.2 -
Many hugs, Annie - I have so much sympathy with your struggles with a clear liquid diet. I whined for weeks ahead of time and throughout my tussle with those for my various colonoscopies. Sugar-free Jell-O was truly my saving grace. I literally drank it AND ate it. And I know it's not good for your teeth, but I also picked up some fast food ice (because it's softer) and chewed on it constantly, just because I missed chewing something! The sugar-free was just because I'm sensitive to sugar. Regular Jell-O is fine for most people. And Better than Bouillion makes a very easy broth that tastes so much better than the little cubes.
Rita - I am so sorry about Jim's death and in particular, the cause and means. I can only imagine his state of mind.
Barbara - Might be worth it to pick up a treatment for a yeast infection, as Heather says. If it's just that overgrowth, it's easily treated--Walmart carries one-day, three-day and seven-day treatments, and has the Great Value brand, which are even cheaper. Tried those before I went to the gyno, for very similar symptoms. The creams helped my symptoms temporarily, but it ended up being a hormone and steroid treatment that I needed. The OTC creams won't hurt you, even if it's not thrush. If it continues after that, get thee to a gynecologist, please... or your primary care doc at a minimum.
Mo - You're a trooper. I hate being cold, too. One of the other reasons I crochet in the winters, in particular. 😹
Kim - It's always good to see you. I can see how it would be very hard to try to fit a settled life around someone completely new. Hope it all works out well, and I know you're enjoying having a dog around all the time again.
Sorry to anyone else I've missed while I had my head in the sand for a few days. Those were the ones I remembered.
Regarding October goals and November goals...
✅Be lighter - Yes! Down from 158 to 156
✅Be healthier - Also yay! Counted during the last week of October, and I'm down from an average of 20+ bathroom trips a day (when the Crohn's was at its worst) to an average of three. Some days are double that, but some days are less, and that means that my skin is healing, along with what's going on inside there. So happy! Next on-body injection of Skyrizi will be Nov. 12th - so pleased at how well it's working. Cardiologist scheduled on Tuesday, we'll see what he has to say.
✅Stick to the budget - Yes! We both kept it together after having to buy the washer at the end of September, and stayed within the budget. Very successful month, in the end.
And... the goals will be the same for November - Be lighter, be healthier and stick to the budget. For those who are new, you do not have to put your goals up here, you don't even have to HAVE goals. When I do, I've found that I do much better if I keep them vague. Specific goals make me a little doolally, and I find myself doing unwise things to accomplish them... but if I keep them at this higher level, I do much, much better.
OK, I'm procrastinating with y'all because I don't want to tear that cabinet apart or mop the kitchen floor. If I see a mouse, I'm going to have an eek-fest!😛 But I've girded my loins long enough, it's time to get moving. Egg's back inside. Maybe I'll let her climb inside that cabinet first... hmm... 😹😍😂
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Barbie, I am sorry to hear about Jake. Is he in a Seattle hospital? A friend of mine is a heart surgeon and he was handling a complicated case yesterday involving a stent.

Jake is home from the hospital. He called to come get him just as I was starting to fix supper so I shut off the stove and grabbed a meal replacement bar and headed for the hospital.
Earlier in the day Jim's daughter called to say that she had made plans to come up on the 11th. She also called Jake's friend and asked him to come over and split the firewood into smaller chunks so it would be easier to build a fire. The friend came over immediately and split a bunch along with providing more kindling and newspaper to help start the fire. One of Jake's ''incidents" was initiated by trying to carry in heavy pieces of firewood and another by getting down on the floor to start the fire.
So, this morning when Jake had trouble sleeping he got up and moved to the couch. When he felt cold, instead of turning up the thermostat, he decided to build a fire resulting in a nice fire and a bunch of scary symptoms that had him waking me up to check up on him. Did he learn his lesson today? I hope so. Now Jake and the dogs are sleeping peacefully with me watching over them. I have been known to fall asleep in my chair at the computer, so maybe that wil happen.
Gratitude has been my way of walking through life's ups and downs On the way to the hospital yesterday it occurred to me that with the electric car, I didn't have to be concerned about whether there was enough gas in the tank to get me where I was going. Also, we're not wealthy, but we have good medical insurance and a decent pension so the bills are being paid.
I gain so much strength every morning by reading what you all have posted. Thank you for being there for me

Some info about Jim. He had been at this park for 20 years. He loved it here and told everyone he met he would die here. He was good natured and always had a smile for anyone he met. He used to drive through the park with a sign that had an old man on it with a large grin and the word SMILE written on it. People loved seeing him drive through. He always had a joke for the campers and had a ‘pet’ plastic roach on his desk. He loved anything alien too. The regional supervisor wanted him to leave because he had been here too long (us too). Volunteers are only supposed to stay 6 months. We have been here 6 years, Jim 20. He lived in his camper and had a pickup that he towed it here with years ago. The camper had not moved so I doubt it could have been towed anywhere. Its condition wasn’t very good. We all suspect he will haunt the visitor center, where he volunteered until his death.
To top everything off, we had a major storm here last night that dropped 8.75 inches of rain last night on our desert campground. Took out THE bridge to town and now have to drive 10 extra miles to get to town. This happened once before since we have been here. Campers hate it because the only way out is up a small town road (it is paved) up a 65 degree incline through a small town up to the next highway. Very inconvenient for everyone. The town didn’t flood this time, we did!

Rita -thank you so much for the background information on Jim. After 20 years, the campground was his home. In a way, I can understand why he chose to leave campground on his own terms.
That was some rainstorm. Hope they can get the bridge fixed soon, they are probably working on the repairs in town right now.

My friend G is on board her ship and sent me pics of her cabin. I think I'm even more excited than she is. I was getting updates every half hour of her journey there.
This morning I did my roots. Hooray! Unfortunately, I didn't wash the conditioner out properly, so I will have to wash it again tomorrow. Never mind.
Then I ordered a long, black, velvet skirt from M&S. Arriving tomorrow. I have no skirts at all! Should be very wearable for lots of occasions. I can't wear anything that shows my awful legs and ankles. I have some ankle boots that should work. Here's hoping. We are going to the shop soon to buy anniversary food, so I can take it back if it doesn't fit.
I also got a gold sequinned Santa hat for the Christmas Day swim. I love going down to the beach to watch the mad swimmers and I often admire the sequins some people are wearing!
That's not me by the way!
