Hi Hi - calorie counting is the most flexible eating approach designed by you for you.
I like to choose a protein, then a carb (potato, rice, bread type thing) and fill out the rest with veggies (soup, salad, stir fry, cut to dip in salsa, etc.) Choices are endless, and I use the food tracker to figure out how much of those foods.
MFP has a suggested daily breakout of the carbs, fats and proteins, but you can adjust the percentages since people have various nutrition approaches.
Check it out... i started by figuring out different meals for about 3 days, and then added new ones when we had different foods each week.2 -

Be honest ... Track everyday even if you feel guilty after eating it(say you ate a small 3 serving pack of Oreos) but you don't track it... Maybe the Oreos are fine or you need to cut down on sugar but if you don't track the correct serving, the correct exercises, etcetera, you won't know. MyFitnessPal is great at individualizing plans in the free version (not what you ate, but how much of each nutrient you need depending on your goals). They will tell you if you are over in a certain nutrient or uncover a problem you never considered before. They will break down whatever nutrient you go over(if you do go over) as soon as you track the food/foods that go over the threshold.0
