Rebecca I cut back on how often I wash my hair. I only wash it once a week with a mild shampoo unless I do cleaning or yard work that exposes me to dust or dirt. I gently brush it with a wide tooth comb or boar bristle brush. I know my hair is more fragile than it was twenty years ago. If I go in a chlorinated pool I wear something over my hair to keep it from getting wet. I am happy with the condition of my hair. I do not color it or highlight it either.

Morning y'all! Thanks so much to those of you who respond. It is truly encouraging. I was excited to see the weighing and measuring food actually paid off this morning with a 1.5 pound weight loss. Yay!
Son is coming over tonight and has requested chicken sandwiches. I told my husband we are going to be eating a lot more chicken! I said beef stalls ny weight loss. He says what about me beef doesn't stall me?! Lol I said it hasn't done you any favors! Haha we love to banter. I will likely slip him a hamburger tonight also.
Has anyone else here had thier gallbladder removed find that beef stalls thier weight loss?
Additionally I didn't reveal to y'all before that I am recovering from a torn Achilles. It makes excercise painful and infrequent. I am hoping to see a physical therapist soon. The weight keeps reinjuring it. I am over 300 pounds.
Have a great day everyone! Good luck!
I had my gallbladder out a couple of years ago, haven't noticed any stalls aside from me just sitting happily on my plateau of my own making. Not that I am at my goal weight mind you. Far from it! I am constantly re prioritizing my life, because I tend to put weight loss on the back burner. Its not that I eat terribly, I just seem to be at this weight. I can either grin and live my best life, or have a major pity party. I chose to soldier on. In the scheme of things, I am blessed, and I have way too many good days over not so good days, and that's cool.😁👍🏼

It seems as we have aged our hair seems more fragile, easier to break, and is so much thinner! I think if I was younger I might be more successful in this no shampoo journey. I got my boars hair brush from Amazon the other day, and promptly stabbed myself in my thumb with one of the bristles! So its kind of sharp! I think if I used it like it says twice a day, I would have a sore and red scalp! It did make my whole head a lot more greasier, because it does help redistribute the oil from the scalp to the ends. I just need to be careful using that brush. I did wash my hair this morning, but I did go about 20 days, and this experience did slow down my oil production way down. I might do this every couple of months.👍🏼

Pudding steamed for four hours. Should be good!
My old uni flatmate rang me this afternoon. She had been to an old schoolfriends's funeral yesterday, and it spurred her to contact old friends. Nice chat about getting older. She has a fragile, aging dog, so vacations are off the agenda until the dog dies. It was great to catch up. We lived together for four terms in Bristol and had our children at the same age. I really detest her husband, but haven't seen him for decades.
John's lunch went well, apart from being held up for 15 minutes in a tiny village with a large lorry blocking the road. It was offloading beer kegs to a pub! Total chaos.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Hi Ladies. I’ve been away from you all for so long that I’m behind over 700 posts. I will never catch up and I know I’ve missed a lot of news. So, just popping in and I will try to keep up better.
One thing that also gutted me was about Jim in Rita’s campground. What a terrible thing. 😥
I gave up tracking calories for now. I’m just in a blah frame of mind.
I had a procedure on my eye that failed. I went to a special specialist, who was an eye plastic surgeon and he shot me with a steroid and it finally started healing. It’s better now. I may have to get another shot, but at least I look more normal and can see more or less normally now. Hopefully I won’t have that happen again.
The mister lost his job so we had to switch insurance for 2 months and will have to again for the beginning of the new year. It’s annoying, but at least we have that option. He’s OK with it. They may hire him back if they get more funding. We are both trying to avoid doc visits till Jan. when we hope to have better coverage.
Otherwise, I’m staying off social media. It’s good. I’m missing a lot of photos of the kids in my life, but I don’t need the drama that resides on there.
I’m also decluttering a bit. We had a fire scare last week, so I want to put things we need to grab quickly in one place. The fire was on the other side of our street behind our neighbor’s house. We were supposed to evacuate, but by the time we were getting to the car, the wind shifted and it moved away from us. We watched it and it was mostly out within 3 hours. I expect more scares this week since we are under red flag warnings with expected high winds and low humidity. There are several fires in southern Cal right now.
Off I go to shred paperwork. Hugs to those in need.
Have a great day!

Tracey – do you mean the outdoor decorations? I would guess probably the middle of December. We aren’t going to have any trees upstairs this year because you can see what would happen to the tree. And the Halloween one never got lights or ornaments on it!!! Vince said that he just isn’t motivated to have the trees downstairs and I can understand why.
Love all the pictures. You are all so talented, I can’t even draw a straight line with a ruler
Did laundry last night after bowling and taking Ganon for a walk around the cul-de-sac. Making yogurt right now and it’ll drain overnight. I want to try something out with the apple pie so I probably should start making that.
Oh, remember the mgr from hades who came back? Well, she’s been SOOO nice to me. She used to criticize me to no end, now I can’t get over how nice she’s been to me. Maybe she’s realized that “who got fired from BK and who’s still here 3 years later?”
Oh, today I overheard A say how she misses Jerry. She asked the mgr ex-from hades and she does too. The other day I overheard the store manager say how she missed Jerry. Well, I for one don’t miss him. I wish him well, but I don’t miss him. Why in the h*** would you miss someone who you never knew if he was coming to work sober or drunk? That is, IF he came to work. There were days when he just didn’t show up. And why would you miss someone who many times had angry outbursts. Right now M’s mother is doing his job and, to me, she’s doing a much, much better job that he ever did. At least when she cleans something, it’s CLEAN. The only thing I can think of is that they’re missing having someone who would do the grunt work (sweep the parking lot, clean the bathrooms, etc) but M’s mom is doing that right now and I must say that I’ve never heard her complain. Maybe she’s being paid more than Jerry was.
Making an apple pie right now. I read that to keep it from being “runny” to refrigerate it for a day before you eat it. So I’m giving that a try. If that doesn’t work, I’ll go back to my way of mascerating the apples first and the next day making the pie.
Tina – oh, I’m so sorry that the procedure failed but glad the doc gave you a shot which seemed to make it better. And I’m sorry about your hubby. Hopefully, they’ll call him back real soon. How scary about the fires! I don’t blame you one bit for giving up tracking calories for now. You know how to eat.

Hi, my lovely friends;
Penny in TX: Beef takes 3 days to digest, so yes, it is the hardest to digest. Have you thought about doing Chair yoga? I also did water aerobics, which is not as hard on your joints. Walking is a good exercise, too. Look on YouTube for exercises you can do without aggravating your Achilles tendon. I had to do physical therapy when I hurt mine. Rachel, my therapist, had me working out in the pool, on a stationary bike, rowing, and the transformer. I had to tape my ankle a certain way with Kinsio tape.
Lisa, I love that jacket on you, and it is a good fit. I am so glad you are feeling good. Great deal with the Chromebook.
Machka, It sounds like you feel overwhelmed with your to-do list at work and home. When I think that way, I repeat, " A thousand blows fell the oak." So, if you are a list person, I am especially at work. I love crossing off what I have accomplished. I work at it until all tasks are complete. I feel overwhelmed at work by everything I need to do, like charting and keeping up with my continuing education. I don't even check my email that often at work for fear of more things coming in. It is like a conveyor belt that you are trying to catch up and keep up with. This show may be before your time; there was a show called " I Love Lucy." One episode showed Lucy in a candy factory trying to wrap the chocolates on the conveyor belt, but she couldn't keep up, so she put the chocolates in her mouth and hat so she wouldn't look bad. It was funny. That is how it tries to keep up with all aspects of life. I am just saying, in a nutshell, don't beat yourself up. You will get caught up.
Allie, your SIL sounds abusive to your brother, so getting him out of there is good. His mental health needs a break from his wife. Do you have enough room for him? I hope you can get him the help he needs, like housing, money, and medical assistance.
PIP- After the fall, did DH and you get to finish the race? Did DH need medical attention?
Heather, I love your artwork and the cruise plan. You and John are so talented. I especially love the artwork.
Tracey, I can relate to that comedian's song. That is why it is so funny: We all can. I guess that is why I weighed as much as 330 pounds: I was depressed for a long time when we moved to Mississippi. I was taken out of my comfort zone. I am over 100 pounds down, and DH is moving me again.
I am looking forward to this time. I will be back with my family. Two friends here have already moved back to DC and South Carolina.
As for the conversation you overheard, though despicable, unfortunately, he represents what many men think about us women.
I waited until 11 p.m. to work out last night. I thought I couldn't sleep due to the long nap, but I was out as soon as my head hit the pillow. I had to save what I was writing to you because I could not open my eyes. I wonder if the shower with lavender soap was the key. It does work with my patients.
I forgot to take out the garbage today before leaving with Rose. I had to drop her off at the vet to get her shots and check-up. She looked at me like, "Don't leave me here, mama." I went to Whole Foods to return an item from Amazon that I hated. I am trying to get clothes for my trip to Florida in December. I think I exchanged my food addiction for shopping. My neighbor's husband commented. Here I thought living by myself, no one would notice my shopping issue.
I guess I will be working out at home again. It looks muggy out there, and I don't want to get caught in the rain. I sent a picture of myself after working out to DH to show him how drenched I get from the workout. He sent "Sexy" back. The poor guy needs his prescription renewed for his glasses.
My son informed me that he was accepted to study in London in the spring, but it wasn't screenwriting. They wanted him to take academic classes because his grades were higher in that area. He had already fulfilled his requirements, so it would have delayed his graduation date if he had gone. So, no London for us.:(
No new car for Julia. She is seeing a therapist. Those are my updates.
It's time to move my rug downstairs while Rose is gone.
Have a wonderful day, everyone.

Flea - Lisa - Rita - thank you so much for that Chromebook input.
I see Google has their own spreadsheet and documents. I can open my Excel spreadsheet in it. I think it's up to 15 GB free storage. Up until now, I'd never taken the time to look at all of the Google features, I just concentrated on the email portion.
So a cheap Chromebook with adequate storage just might fit the bill for a good backup laptop.

No we didn’t get to finish the race. We had gotten 4 miles in when he tripped. We walked back. I could have kept running and finished but that wouldn’t have been cool. I calculated that he he ran at the same pace when he fell, he would have finished in 2 hours 18min. I would have finished in 2hrs 15min.

Honestly, vince is going to drive me to drink the way he's being about Ganon. Just a few moments ago he said to me "I know you don't agree, but Fred is really traumatized by Ganon. I can't find him anywhere, he's behind the dresser. The minute he saw Ganon, he ran". "No he isn't, he's in the back bedroom" "what's he doing there" "playing with Pixel". "You know, he feeds off your emotions. You're the one who says to me that I shouldn't spray them with water when they jump off the counter because they don't remember. Now you're saying that Fred remembers from days ago". I don't think so.
Evidently, Ganon was in the living room and he did something to Chewy. Chewy just ran away. he wasn't "traumatized".
Jess just called to say she'd be here tonight. To be honest, I'm a bit surprised, I didn't think she'd come until tomorrow a.m. This should be interesting. I bet Cosmo will want to sleep with us (and the other kittens). I'm thinking that that'll make Jess sad. Well, that's part of being a parent....

Regarding hair ... I've been letting my natural hair grow out because I haven't had the time or energy to do anything about it for quite a while (6 months?). So I've got about 3 inches of natural hair showing now.
The natural hair growing in is a combination of my natural brown and grey. The brown hair is thick, as usual, and soft, with a bit of a wave (hard to tell because there's only about 3 inches of natural). The grey hair is thick, coarse, and frizzy-curly.
I shampoo my hair 4-5 days a week and don't like leaving it more than 3 days because it looses all it's fluff, curl and softness.
I'm not sure what I'll do with it next. I'm sort of curious what it would look like entirely natural. I haven't seen my hair natural since I was about 16. But on the other hand, I do have some dye that's sort of close to my natural colour which would cover the grey.

Good early morning, ladies,
My goal this week was to increase my workout to five days. I did yoga on Monday, step aerobics with push-ups, tricep dips, and set-ups on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and tomorrow, I will be doing Taebo and Strength training.
I did see a doctor who wasn't my regular doctor, and I don't know why. So I asked if my doctor was retiring or if he had fired me. She didn't know if the scheduler mixed doctors up. I love Doctor Marshall, who saved me when I walked in with respiratory distress. Then he managed me after I had COVID. This doctor is so sweet, too, but now I feel guilty. I feel like I am cheating on my Allergy doctor. I did have a flu vaccine. Today, all I wanted to do was sleep. My sleep doctor told me to try to nap not more than 1 hour. It is so hard. I had to take Rose to the vet for her senior labs, vaccines, and heartworm check. She was negative for heartworm. I was happy to hear that. My dog Rusty had heartworm. As for hair, I wash my hair 1 to 2 times a week.
My hair has salt and pepper roots. So far, my friends and kids don't want me to go grey yet. I am not ready yet, either. We have age discrimination issues to worry about. When I move to Chicago, I don't have to worry about that. My friends are still there and are greying too. When I moved to the south, I noticed the ladies were girly. They must maintain their hair and nails, and their makeup must be impeccable. They look cute all the time. I will go to work without makeup sometimes. I haven't had my hair done since moving to MS. Julia did get her hair done, but then I knew I could do better. So I did her hair as well. My son went to the barber. Pedicures are hit-and-miss for me. Don't get me wrong; the ladies like to look good there, too, in Chicago. My group isn't constantly worried about it. I did learn about skincare and to pamper myself here cause it is essential to love our skin, hair, and nails. I am used to putting myself on the back burner and putting my family first. My therapist is glad that now I have the time to focus on my health and me. My husband paid for Julia to finish her nails but didn't worry about me. We put our kids first. It is funny cause while DH took Julia to get her hair done, I took our DS to get his haircut.
Lisa, I am so glad that you are painting again. I love your work.
Allie, Delia is smiling and so cute; I could eat her up.
Penny, you may need to have PT for that Achilles tendon.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

@Lanette before buying the Chromebook, are you installing Office or using the online version? Consider how you are going to save your documents, etc. I used a Chromebook when I was sub-teaching and it was great but didn’t have much space to save anything. You really couldn’t install anything or save anything on it. You had to use the Google cloud. The ones the school had did not have any USB slots or slots of any kind to attach external drives too. Please consider space you need on the Chromebook itself and how/where you will store pictures, documents, etc. This laptop is great for cruising the internet and using the cloud. Just my experience. There could be others with drive space out there. Never really looked at any other than the ones the school used.

Good summary. All reasons why I did not go with a Chromebook!
As it is, I use a backup harddrive for extra storage with my Dell which has quite a bit of storage space.

I am a list person and my current list is about 40 pages long - not kidding!! It really feels like I add more things to my To Do list than I complete.
For the past couple years, I have aimed to accomplish one thing at work and one thing at home each day ... that sort of keeps my list from growing too fast.
Today is my usual Friday off (I work a 9-day fortnight) and I managed to check a few things off my list.
- my husband and I both saw our doctor for various things ... but now I need to arrange an ultrasound (me) and bloodwork (him).
- we got medication for my husband
- we dropped off my bags of outdated medication and my sharps
- I picked up some plastic inserts for my new pen storage unit
- My husband picked up a few things he needs for work around our house.
Now I'm going to see about moving the laundry along and building a unit for my bathroom.
Only 33 emails today!

I built the unit for my bathroom! It was more complicated than I thought it would be and took me nearly 3 hours. I wanted a slim unit next to my toilet to hold some toilet paper and for some of my more decorative toiletries. It looks like this:

Good morning beautiful ladies!
I don't wear makeup at all anymore. I used to use mascara on special occasions but that's expensive because it keeps expiring. And I don't bother with jewelry anymore either. There's nobody I want to impress. And I resent that women are expected to color themselves, as if natural beauty was not good enough. One of my soapboxes.
Last night Dad went to bed early and then got up and dressed at ten at night. He went outside looking for the newspaper, and I heard him because the door has an alarm. So I got up and talked him back to bed but it was difficult. And now he is up again early this morning.
That is one of my limits. I can't watch him round the clock by myself. If he starts doing this a lot, we will have to think about the dreaded "other arrangements." Basically, lock him up. So sad because sometimes he is quite lucid and smart as a whip. And we would have to sell the house to put him in memory care.
Well that was a downer. On a positive note, I had a fantastic time riding yesterday. First of all, I'm healed enough to ride gently. Yay! And then I rode a new horse named Artie. He was eager, and we worked on a lot of stopping to keep him in check. We trotted just a little bit and he felt great.
So that was fun.
I still haven't actually made it to the DMV for my driver's license, so that's the goal today. Dad has class for four hours, so I should have plenty of time.
Have a marvelous day, my friends. May you be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

Annie - (((HUGS))) Being a caregiver for your dad is a 24/7 job. Glad he has someplace to go for a few hours and good you had the alarms installed.
I am much more relaxed about the spiffing up that now that I'm retired too. One of the reasons I love to go grocery shopping super early in the morning is that I can throw a decent coat over my sweats, put in some earrings and still feel like I'm overdressed compared to most of the pajama crowd at Walmart, lol.
Penny - by any chance are you pre-diabetic? The reason I ask is that Rita and I have been on programs this year for diabetes prevention and the diet, nutrition, exercise and stress relief recommendations are also good for weight loss. Because I'm on Medicare, I'm able to take zoom classes led by a dietician that are based on CDC recommendations, and Rita got weekly online information that she shared in this group, which I thought was more complete than the information I was getting in my classes.
Here are links to the CDC "lifestyle-change-program" and the curriculum my class is using:
https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes-prevention/lifestyle-change-program/lifestyle-change-program-details.html
https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes-prevention/php/lifestyle-change-resources/t2-curriculum.html
If you have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, you might have insurance that would pay for these classes if you are interested. Sometimes being part of a class with others gives extra support, kind of like WW. Except no lining up to weigh in and bearing the shame of a half pound gain. That was me for years and years.
Again, just some ideas. Wishing you the best.
I'm going to spatchcock a whole chicken today, and rub it down good (and under the skin) with a little olive oil and butter and herbs. Look out, oven, this will make twice this week I've turned you on after a long hiatus.
Make it a fabulous Friday!

Annie ~ I dye my hair and wear foundation and lipstick. I had acne from age 9 to late 30's and makeup was a must. For some miracle and good luck my face is not scarred at all; but, as I was growing up, it really damaged my self-esteem. I used to wear a lot of eye makeup but not any more due to eye problems.
So sorry your dad seems to be declining at a faster rate even though you stated that he has very lucid moments. Would it be possible to get some sort of mortgage on the house so you could hire a full time caregiver but keep the house after he passes?
Machka ~ I like the slender cabinet you built. I have a tall wrought iron cabinet in my bath that holds lots of things. I got it at an antique shop years ago.
Tina ~ Seems like you are going through a very tough time with your eye, the fires, and worry over your DH's getting a new job. Prayers for you and yours.

Good morning again, everyone,
I thought about it, and I realized that I am a native Californian, and we are very laid-back and casual. My DH is from the Midwest, and he isn't casual at all. The first time(the only time) I saw my dad with a tie on was at my wedding. You can even go to church in jeans. So imagine my surprise when someone tells me to wear a specific color for Sunday at church. That would require me to purchase a new dress. I had been in the hospital for over a month at the time. So I wasn't working, the last thing I wanted to spend my money on was a dress color I wouldn't usually buy. So, I told my DH that I was staying home. It shouldn't be that way. One time, I passed the kid's bathroom and thought I had seen a giant spider, so I whacked it several times and realized it was a fake eyelash. Don't get me wrong, I put on makeup to perk myself up. I just ordered something from Thrive Cosmetics. I love getting my feet done, too, but not regularly. Like Annie, I didn't have jewelry. I just got some recently. I like small and dainty. I wear small hoop earrings all of the time. I love to make earrings, so I get festive during the holidays.
Annie, where are you going to live when you sell the house?
Penny, those Zoom classes sound great.
Bye, everyone.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi
