Rebecca I love how you challenge all the routine things. Hope your hair project goes well. I stopped brushing mine so much because I pull out strands and it's thin to begin with. I ought to take the biotin again, that seemed to help.
Lisa and Lanette yes my gut is healing. I'm going to stay at this level, rice and eggs in small portions, at least until Wednesday if I can resist.
Rita so sorry about the flooding! The wrong time to be in a tent.
Pip Kirby sounds really banged up. Was he checked for concussion?
Michele yes dogs and cats have to learn to get along. It's better that they signal when they are upset instead of hiding it. Sounds like you have it under control.
Rori when I think about life after caregiving, I think of you and you inspire me!
Machka don't forget about all that moving exercise! Slugging boxes!
My Dad was talking about burning leaves. We have a burn ban because it's so dry. Plus I don't think it's allowed in town. So I think I will just move the matches.
Have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I seem to always be testing myself. Can I intermittent fast today? Can I go another day without shampoo and still be presentable😂 ? How long can this place go before I actually turn on the vacuum? I might not be a messy person, but gaah, that vacuum? I just dislike doing it! Crazy though I did turn the blasted thing on, and just dust everywhere on the *kitten* brown/gray carpet filled the canister up. I cannot (or will not) do the whole place in one go. So yesterday I did upstairs which is 4 rooms, 2 bathrooms and 3 closets. Then washed the inner workings of the vacuum, so heck I can't use it today for the downstairs, because its still drying. My excuse really. So in my mind, I am quite awful at anything routine related😂😂.
Hugs friend!

@Whidislander Hi Whidi! I'm Penny. I don't know about the whole no shampoo kick but I do know that washing his hair with ACV has greatly improved my husband's hair health. He has always had bad dandruff and after a few months of ACV (it's in an Aveeno shampoo product) his hair is much nicer, no visible dandruff, and most of all for him the general itchiness is gone! I'm interested to hear about your journey. Good luck!
Hi there! Nice to meet you! Yes, it has made this whole no shampoo journey quite a positive experience. I noticed the more I used shampoo, the more I needed to use shampoo, so I am sort of going thru a detox time right now. My scalp feels so much better! I am glad that your husband is having positive results using ACV. Remember he needs to dilute it with water, or risk burning his scalp.
I have never traveled to Texas, we are currently in Whidbey island in Puget Sound in Washington State. Its a 37 mile long by 10 mile wide island connected to the mainland by Deception Pass bridge at the top. There is ferry access at the bottom. We moved here because son was stationed at the navy air station here and we decided to all be roommates. He is actually still paying for his portion of the rent, but he has been transferred to Guam and now Japan. My youngest son is also active duty and is in Japan as well. My middle son did his 6 years and decided to get out, along with his wife that was also in the Navy. We have two sweet g'kids in the 10 years they've been married. Hopefully both youngest and eldest sons will come home soon, and we can just get another home on one level (predicting age issues) with some land and both kids can put a tiny home on the property. That would be so perfect!

Allie - it's so sad those fees are going up. Penny is right, the financial times are tough right now. I'll bet you have neighbors who are already on a super super tight budgets and these increases really hurt, they have to make a choice - groceries, medicines, etc.
Penny - I hear ya, I thought I had invented stress eating. I cope with it by keeping a cup of coffee (I probably drink too much but I love it) or tea and take pains to actually plan my meals ahead of time, log the food, figure out what vegetable I'll have, what kind of meat, etc.
I look at it like it's a big production even if it's only soup and cheese and an apple. (Example: What kind of cheese do I have in the fridge? What other cheese would I like and I put that on the grocery list. Or I need to pick up more apples so I check prices and availability at Walmart. And look at the Safeway/Albertson's/Kroger ads and see what they have. ) This takes time and gives me something to look forward to. Kind of a reward I guess.
And people wonder what I do in retirement since I'm not very social. I'm a "planner" and doing this makes me happy. I'd rather do this than play bingo at the Senior Center at this stage. Who knows, I might feel differently a year from now.
By the way, I'm going to look for that Aveeno shampoo with ACV. I like their products. Thanks for the tip.
Mo - sounds like you had a lot of interesting patients over the weekend. Yes, very heartbreaking that a parent would sell a child to be a sex slave. Hope the gal can heal and find peace. I'm with your DH - a Stevie Wonder concert would be great, I can see why he was so excited. Loved the music of his era.
Heather - the itinerary for the cruise looks awesome. We'll be with you in spirit, that's for sure. I'd love to visit some of those countries and check out their local olive oils (and other foods!)
Annie - every day you are doing better and better. I'm thrilled. Glad you got on top of the infection. So nice your Dad is occupied for 4 hours which gives you time to do things and not worry about him. Glad too you hid the matches!
Tracey - would love to see some of the items you're making for the craft fairs. I know you've been super busy working on things. Rodger is a cut-up, lol.
Rita - wow, great news your return trip was shorter. Glad the PT went well yesterday, it will be interesting to see what the MRI shows. I managed to tweak my back a couple days ago tossing around a bale of straw (that I could do with ease 20 years ago! What happened??? ) But I can do bridging and back exercises without any pain so I think I just pulled a muscle. It will get better with a few days off. But I still always panic a teeny bit, having ruptured a disc 30 years ago. A couple steroid packs helped immensely.
Make it a fabulous day, ladies!

Hey, kids,
Well - the cardiologist is happy with me, got a "go away and see me in six months," and no lecture on my decision not to have the Watchman installed. I understand the risks better than most, and so does my husband. That's enough.
Then it was off to the VA to get my record updated - they've dropped it down to just getting a signature to show that I understand the risks of taking an addictive substance. Great relief. So that was two appointments I was dreading, and both turned out great.
Then I stopped at Walmart, and they had a pinky-purple, lightweight jacket on clearance for $7! Snagged that - turned out it had been mislabeled. It's labeled an XXL, but at most it's a medium, and fits like a glove. Love it.
Not just a good morning, but a great one, in the end!
More later, kids,
Love,

Spoke with my brother today..the poor guy..Jean is just a mean B. And he will probably end up on my couch for a couple days... all I ask is that he smokes in the designated space outside.
He has disability on a roll now,and tomorrow I'll take him to social services and see what we can do to get him someplace to live.5 -

We plan out our menus looking at what we have, and lunches are just leftovers for the most part. I hate food to spoil, so I move things into the freezer if I know I won't get to it that week. We have a cabinet full of "plastic containers" and I use them weekly! I always seem to have a sink full of plastic containers in sudsy water. I like organizing all that.

I hope Jake is breathing more easily now. It sounds like they have a treatment plan worked out for him. I pray that it works. It is scary when you can't catch your breath. My continued prayers go out to both you and Jake.
Rita, I am so sorry about Jim. I wish people would look at a person's situation before pulling the trigger to evict. Maybe they need to look into a social worker who could find a placement for someone like Jim. He had no place else to go. He was 91?? He wasn't going to stay that long anyway. I feel our housing system is heartless and seriously flawed. I am sending prayers and hugs to you.
Pip, it Sounds like Kirby had quite a spill. Did he do it while riding his bike? Poor guy. I am sending hugs to you both.
Lisa Egg is so funny. She was sleeping so well on your computer. I wonder, if you used another computer, would she claim that too?
Heather, you look like a great cook. I love the paintings, and your trip sounds fabulous.
Rebecca, I am so sorry. I thought you were having scalp issues. Many people who want to give their hair a break use baking soda mixed with powder. I don't know the exact chemical makeup. It does work, or you can try dry shampoos. M16 is a shampoo. I believe it is tar-based for psoriasis or chronic dandruff.
My hair gets so dry that I must wash it, or my scalp starts crusting over, and it falls out. When swimming, I wash my hair once or twice a week. French braiding or wearing a ponytail is my style of choice for my job. When I wear it down, toddlers will pull it. I also wear a bun. If I go to work with my hair down, I bring a scrunchie, and it ends up in a ponytail.
Tracey, you are right; advertising makes all the difference in turnouts. When scrapbooking events, I would plan based on knowing when and where. Then, I would encourage my friends to come. I would save my money and spend a ton. I picked up on events through magazines back then. Now, we have Instagram, Facebook, TV, and yes, those signs on the road. I hope your next one is better.
I was unprepared for daylight savings time, so imagine my surprise when I discovered I was working 13 hours instead of 12. My dog's schedule is off. She got me up at 2 pm to go out, and we were up early this Morning, at 3:00 am. We have two teens with TBI's from driving intoxicated. We had a princess who told me she was busy putting her babies to bed. Then, she will be ready for her storytime. She asked me is it my turn, I sent our tech to read to her. She wasn't my patient, but I fell in love with her.
I helped her get tucked in after storytime. I played lullaby music. When I checked on her, she was out. Her little Tike's car was parked outside her room, with Barbie sitting in it. She has a toy castle in her room, too. She was cute. My cherub was back and naughty as ever. Her mom sleeps through her alarms. I had two cute babies and a teen. My babies kept me busy all weekend. One had a temp of 102, and I had to do a workup on him. He was a different baby after the antibiotics kicked in. Then, he felt well enough to take himself off of the ventilator many times. I called him "Mr Tudball." He had the funniest facial expressions. One teen was on suicide watch. Her mother sold her to be a sex slave. What is wrong with people? It is all so heartbreaking.
My goal is to work out five days a week. I love the results of the exercise. When my foot started hurting again, I wrapped it, which helped. I decided to try yoga, and I felt so relaxed. I might need cardio before, but it was better than doing nothing. I forgot that DH gave himself an early birthday gift of attending a Stevie Wonder concert. He was so emotional when he described it. I decided to listen to his music while charting. I didn't leave work yesterday till after 8:00 am. Mom needed to vent about what the doctors said in the Morning. I missed being in there. I was busy with Mr. Tudball. So, that is my beginning November synopsis.
Well, my friends, healthy, safe, and kind out there.

Be cautious, Allie. If he doesn't have a feasible means of getting his own place, he won't. I would only take him in if you are willing to make it permanent. Which might be a nice thing, anyway, but be prepared.
Sorry about the rise in HOA fees. That's quite a bit of money.

Machka - I hope you get a break soon.
Heather - it’s always good to have something to look forward to.
Mo - I admire you doing what you do for a living. I just couldn’t do it.
Annie - February will be here before you know it. I can’t believe how fast the time goes.
Lanette - My daughter has started meal planning and she says it’s really a lot of fun. She does hers with her morning coffee on Sunday.
I will get some pictures over the weekend. My DH is busy doing his part this week, so I’ll do mine on the weekend.
Allie - I don’t know laws in the States but he must be entitled to something from the marriage. Here in Alberta it’s illegal to even kick someone out without notice even in a separation scenario.
Another great day at work. It’s so nice to be appreciated.

They live in her mothers home..And she is being unresonable.
Sean has no money, and has relied on Jean for the last 20 yrs.. he has worked some..but she basically took care of things.they both have had there share of problems..for sure..But when she was working full time he was taking care of both her parents.. first her dad, then her mom.. then she quit her job and has been living off the trust fund since.. and she in the last 6 months has just gone off the rails .. so who knows whats going on..
I just give Sean the tools to help him get out, gave him a notebook, with numbers for, social security, housind, social services and ,to write down everything.. he seems to think she found the notebook, but he is still scouting it out..3 -

vacuuming is one chore I don't have to do because dh is obsessed, seriously OBSESSED with vacuuming- He has 4 lined up in the hall way plus others around. He vacuums daily, including with the regular ones(all cordless), hand held and the little Ryobi that he uses in the catios and in my bathroom because of the litter boxes. The only chore that man does. It is great EXCEPT for when he decides to use on after I have gone to bed or when he gets home from work after graveyard shift and uses one before I am even out of bed.
He doesn't do that as much as he used to and when he does, at least he closes the door so it isn't as loud-

Hello, my dears...
Got home from my doings yesterday, curled up on the couch after I ate some lunch, and was out for nearly three hours! Kinda wrecked my night's sleep tonight, but that's OK. I'll be headed back to bed shortly, I think.
Heather - The cruise looks wonderful. So did the art from all of you!
Tracey - It makes me so happy to see you posting how positive things are at your new job. You so deserve that appreciation.
I realized a couple things about that jacket I bought earlier - I seldom buy new clothes, and when I do, they're usually just more of the same. I am not a clothes horse now and I never was. But I was really delighted with the new jacket, not just for the price, but for the color and the fit. So I took a picture. One more sign of feeling better, too, I think. I feel as if I'm coming back to life in a lot of ways.
Later, my dears,

A break, as in time off, I don't need!
I took 7 weeks off over a 13 week period between August 1 and October 29 ... and that's why I am so far behind in everything at work and everything at home and everything else!!
At the beginning of the year, I didn't anticipate taking so much time off all at once and I didn't anticipate moving house and taking 4.5 months to do that ... but these things happen.
I keep telling myself to try to accomplish one thing at work and one thing at home each day.

Bedroom: I do need to go through the linen box. Remotes, electronics and candles don't belong in my bedroom. And I did organise my nightstand last week!!
Closet: I'll get there eventually.
Bathroom: I did that back in 2020 but need to do it again.
Kitchen: I'll get there eventually, although there are no take away menus, expired food or old sponges.
Office: Let's not talk about that right now.

I don't have any of the things on Machka's lists, apart from 'scarves I don't use'. I live in hope that I will use them, as they have come back into fashion.
My brother rang me today. He can now eat soft food! Can't taste sweet , but can taste salt. He is hoping to go out this afternoon to see his grandchild and visit a café. First coffee in months. I was so happy to hear him.

Heather ~ So glad your brother is making progress.
Annie ~ Hope you can get well and can eat what you like. My son (49) is facing future surgery because of repeated bouts of the diverticulitis/diverticulosis (I don't know which). Glad you hid your dad's keys and the matches.
Allie ~ Over the years since I have been here, it seems that your brother and his wife went through a lot of controversy. I think you were actually helping to look after Jean's mom at one time. Hope it works out for him.
Machka ~ I think your calling was to be a researcher as you are so good at finding articles that get us in the right direction. My own decluttering has come to a standstill.

Decluttering we did good when first moving into the RV and traveling the first year. But, once we settled in place, DH saves everything, and I mean everything I can’t toss without his knowing “for future use”. We have a storage unit with mostly his things we pay for every month since we moved here 6 years ago! Again mostly things ‘for future use’. I can’t get it through his head that for what we paid on the rental unit, we could have bought everything in that until new when we needed it! Including his tools, nuts and bolts, old VHS and DVD players, nails, and all sorts of things. Same in the RV, if I need or want to throw any clothes away and he notices it in the trash, he will pull it out and want to save it for a rag (which he never uses). Same with felt pens that don’t work, he tries to make them work. I have to sneak stuff in the trash to get rid of it. I don’t know why he does that, he never has been homeless, and his parents always made good money when he was growing up. Much better financially than my family. He seems to have had brain damage as a child (my diagnosis from all Machka has posted) and is ADHD and OCD to the point of being a hoarder. He also has a bad habit of buying things ‘just because it is on sale, marked down, or a good price’! So frustrating,. Contributes to my stress and our financial position.
Sorry just venting. All the talk of de-cluttering is all things I really want/need to do but have to be sneaky about.
My MRI is done, the bridge is open one way so only 10-15 miles to town now. MRI tech said he ‘is only a tech’ but I must be in a lot of pain. So, I know there are problems there for sure. Going to the back doctor around the 21st. Next week is my mental therapy, and the next day physical therapy. SIGH!!

@dlfk202000 have you considered investing in a robot vacuum. I have one with a self emptying tower. It cost under $90. It has been one of the best things I've ever gotten. Yes it gets itself stuck from time to time, but I happily rescue it. Lol2

Morning y'all! Thanks so much to those of you who respond. It is truly encouraging. I was excited to see the weighing and measuring food actually paid off this morning with a 1.5 pound weight loss. Yay!
Son is coming over tonight and has requested chicken sandwiches. I told my husband we are going to be eating a lot more chicken! I said beef stalls ny weight loss. He says what about me beef doesn't stall me?! Lol I said it hasn't done you any favors! Haha we love to banter. I will likely slip him a hamburger tonight also.
Has anyone else here had thier gallbladder removed find that beef stalls thier weight loss?
Additionally I didn't reveal to y'all before that I am recovering from a torn Achilles. It makes excercise painful and infrequent. I am hoping to see a physical therapist soon. The weight keeps reinjuring it. I am over 300 pounds.
Have a great day everyone! Good luck!4 -
Carol- your right I did help out ..and on the weekends also and while I was doing that Tom was out with Elena.so you see where that went..but thats all water under the bridge now.
I know no marriage is perfect, but when alcohol, and money and mental illness run into it.. Well thats a whole other state of affairs.. Im just Thankful that my dad isn't alive to see whats going on,it would devistate him...after my dad passed is when Jean started getting mean..i swear she has early onset Alzhimers ,her mom has it and is in the end stages
But ever since I have known her she has been a bully.
But all I can do is love my brother and support him in whatever way i can..not financially though.
