What gym workout app do you use?

I have a gym membership and have a few group fitness classes there that I enjoy. I would like to build consistent, progressive workouts for days when I'm not taking classes.

There are a few machines at the gym that I'd rather not use. I'm having trouble finding an app to build a workout while allowing to swap out some exercises for alternative machines or dumbbell/ barbell exercises.

Any recommendations?

Google Sheets. It lets you easily track progress, and is free.

Thank you, that's a great suggestion for tracking my progress. I also want an app that builds a workout for me, with options to swap out exercises.

If there are any suggestions for that, I'd love to hear them.

@KaileyCo For building a workout, I'm sure there are paid apps, or you can buy plans from influencers, or build your own that suits your own schedule and goals. Whether there are free apps for that, I don't know. I just want to point out that you can build such functionality into Sheets easily.

e.g. in my sheet, rows 15-42 are upper body exercises, and rows 47-70 are lower body + arms. In the upper body section, rows 34-36 are for 3 sets of ez-bar pullovers, and rows 37-39 for 3 sets of chest supported db rows. But I only do one of those exercises. Lately I have been doing the pullover but my elbow has a little bit of an issue at the moment, and the row is much easier on my elbow so I'm doing that instead. On the workout day I fill in the weight and reps in the right place, and there's my historical record week to week.

I use the free version of the Hevy app. Let's you build 4 custom routines as tracks like 3 months workouts. The paid version does more, but so far this has worked well. Plus there are ready made routines as well.

@Retroguy2000 Thank you, that is helpful. I'll have to look at building my own workouts, I just am unsure I have the knowledge to build effective ones. But I have tried quite a few apps and have not been completely happy with any of them.

What may be a good resource for better understanding is the website chunkfitness.com.
You can look up exercises by category, and see highlighted muscles on an anatomical figure to show you what muscles are being used.
    here's an example-

    shows muscles on the map:

I've designed my own workout by referencing these muscle maps.
