:) Jake's surgery is scheduled for February. We are already into the fourth month of his "no driving for six months" direction from the doctor. The surgery will begin another six months of his not driving. I can drive him locally but he is a terrible passenger. I can't drive him out of town so when he goes to the cardiologist or the hospital, someone else have to drive him. Right now he is on the phone with his daughter asking her to come up in February and take him to the hospital and stay nearby.

:) For many years Jake has said that if I predecease him, he would put a sign on the door telling people not to bring food because he won't eat it.

One of the things I had to do when my husband had his accident was relearning to drive. I had not driven in 10 years except for maybe 3 or 4 times with guidance.

Suddenly I had to drive everywhere!

I've surprised myself that I can do it ... although I did pass on driving out of and into the Vancouver airport.

You may be able to do more than you think.

Change and learning are never-ending parts of life.

Machka - That's one of the only charts you've put up that I could argue with--I think you may not know where your comfort zone is because that chart labels and puts hard lines between all the zones. I think these things are too amorphous to actually work that way for most people. Your learning zone IS your comfort zone, and has been since I met you. What they term a "growth zone" is where I'm most comfortable, and the "fear zone" isn't a zone for me at all, just a flicker of thought. Not saying that is true for everyone. For some folks I've known, fear is where they're most comfortable. That's not denigrating them at all, just saying that's where they have found their comfort zone, perhaps because it is most familiar. I could totally be wrong - that was just my first reaction.

    Love y'all,
    Lisa in AR

I was looking at it and thinking that it's often a rolling progression for me.

My Fear Zone is usually a tiny sliver

You're probably right that I feel fairly comfortable in the Learning Zone.

Then I accomplish whatever it is I was learning, feel comfortable for a moment, and move into the Growth Zone where I'm setting new goals etc.

Then I have a flicker of fear as I leap into the Learning Zone again.

    And repeat.

So, I guess my Comfort Zone is probably a thin layer between the Learning Zone and the Growth Zone.

Buying this house dropped me into the fear zone for probably the longest I've been in the fear zone in a long, long time. That was unexpected and uncomfortable! I can quit my job, pack up and travel around the world for 8 months with just a few butterflies, but buy a house and YIKES!
But then I took some deep breaths and looked at it as a learning experience.
    Now goals are being set!

    Good morning ladies!

Lisa - I was up at 1 - still got my 6 hours of sleep in. Between going to bed with the chickens and the time change, my clock is off and that's just the way it is. :p

So I've been busy clearing off counters and tidying up for Collette who'll be here at 8 so she can do the "heavy" work. I drive old cars and live kind of frugally so I can afford to have her come every 2 weeks. The house looks and smells great for a few days so it's like a mini vacation for me. :p Plus, she's my daughter from another mother and my back-up Rosie and chicken tender since she only lives a couple miles away.

Barbie - thinking about you and Jake. Great that his daughter is ready and able to come help when the time comes. Jake being unable to drive for another 6 months will probably drive him (and you) nuts... I'm getting a flashback to when I offered to pull over on I-5 and drop DH off onto the shoulder when he became "a bit" too critical of my driving when we were on the way to see his neurosurgeon after he broke his back. That was a stressful time for both of us. :(

Do any of the grocery stores in your area deliver? We don't have a QFC but have a Safeway, but no delivery in my rural area. Although if I couldn't drive for some reason, T would be glad to shop and drop things off for me.

I often think I'm much luckier than I deserve with such willing helpers. <3

Gusty winds predicted: We're expecting some gusty winds here tonight and into tomorrow. I got pretty well prepared last week when similar weather was forecast, and will batten down the hatches a bit more today.

I'll get the fire makings loaded into the woodstove just in case. I have enough wood to take me through some severe cold spells or extended power outages. DH was always chilly and would chop and stack a lot of wood to keep the stove going just about every day during the winter. I'm a bit more hot blooded I guess and do fine with an extra sweatshirt. :p

Earlier this year, I got an "AeroPress" to make coffee. It's kind of like a French press. I used it a few times just to try it out, and will have it set out and ready to go.

Diabetes Prevention Class - In yesterday's Zoom class, there was a lot of discussion about the CGM's - continuous glucose monitors. One of my classmates has been wearing the "Lingo" one and said it's been a lot of help in helping her identify foods she needs to steer clear of. She said it also gives tips on how to restructure meals and work on keeping blood glucose stabilized in general. Our class leader said a lot of people who aren't Type 2 diabetic are wearing them. I need to take the time and learn more about them. There's also a "Stelo" brand.

On that note, I need to get busy! Have a super day, ladies.

My new thing each work day is delving deeper into SQL code and combining it with Power Query so that it populates Excel.

I don't like that our output must be Excel but that's the choice of the Commonwealth. It is what it is.

I climb stairs when I get frustrated.

Responding to a few days at once again.

Michele - I find that the ball is better because I can really work it where I need it whereas the foam is bigger and not so targeted. The bottle feels better because of the ice.
I wear the splint at night.
There are a few inserts for this truck. Yes I do carry them back and forth. They are mine. I could pay her a paint fee and do it, but this is cheaper in the long run.
I use the night splint that looks like this.

    p9lqjiwoccjl.png

I tried another style with a closed toe and it made my toes hurt.

I was able to walk to the bathroom with it on. It’s in the instructions though that you shouldn’t leave it all night anyway.

Lisa - I’m sorry your sales weren’t better. It’s so disappointing.

Rebecca - I think you’re smart to accept your body as it is. I am at that point for looks but I don’t feel well so I know I need to keep trying to lose.
I would talk to my friend and tell her that it’s appreciated but Leigh is looking forward to laying around in his skivvies, being alone and is really looking forward to being a bachelor for a few days. Having someone treat him takes away from his pleasure in it.
In the end if she ignores his wishes and he ignores the door it’s really on her.
I don’t understand people that just won’t take people at their word.

Rodger and I do not mesh sleep wise at all. He sleeps for a few hours at a time and if he hears me snoring he leaves the room. I hate it and feel that it’s really been detrimental to the marriage. He doesn’t feel that way though.

Rita - Sorry your son is causing you worry. We never stop do we?

Lanette - my grandparents refused to go anywhere except across the driveway to my parents. I tried to get them to come to my place the only 2 times I hosted when we lived in NB. It made me terribly sad.
Now I love it when my daughter takes over Christmas and we go there. DH doesn’t though.

    Barbie - Hugs to you.

Busy day! I’m looking forward to work tomorrow for a quieter day.
I went shopping for groceries and for the door prizes and gifts for the work luncheon we’re having tomorrow and Thursday.

I then decorated outside for two hours. I’ll have to get a picture at night, but this is what I did.

    Now I’m off to bed.

My comfort zone on this chart is all Over! I feel comfortable in the learning zone and the identified comfort zone, weird chart for me. In my life I seldom feel in control.

PT went well yesterday. They did something new. Had back massage first then they did what the therapist called ‘dry needling’ (it’s like acupuncture but electrified). I asked why it was called ‘dry’ and did they have a ‘wet’ needling therapy. I caught the therapist off guard because at first he didn’t know, then came up what he thought was the answer that ‘wet’ needles were the kind you get shots from. A Google search brought back he was right, “ Dry needling usually is paired with exercise and other physical therapy techniques to prevent trigger points from reoccurring. The needles used are solid and don't inject liquid into your body. It's the reason this treatment is referred to as "dry." All forms of acupuncture use dry needles as well.”

So I must have been extra tired last night because I did snore some. Husband is nice and just tags me with his hand, and doesn't swat me like he used to do. Unfortunately it is still an interruption in my sleep pattern, then my bladder says hi, and I need to blow my nose, or have a drink of water (you know to continue this crazy ride I'm on gah!). So at 4 am I knew it was one more hour until husband would wish to wake up, and so I listened to him sleep, while trying to stay awake. Fun stuff. I also try to sleep whilst holding my mouth closed. This forces me to breathe out of my nose. Of course once I relax my throat, I probably snore. He has pretty much accepted my snoring. And most of the time he says its just more of loud breathing. But every once in awhile, I break out in song, (a whale song more like it). When we had the other harder mattress, he used to jiggle the bed, but now with our squishy mattress a jiggle won't make me react at all. The joys of sleep in a marriage. I am afraid in a couple years we might both appreciate separate rooms. Its not that bad now, and its not the time, but one day.

We have separate beds (but in the same room) and we both use earplugs.

    Works well for us!

I'm glad that it works for you guys!👍🏼💖. They (sleep pros) say that sleep is pretty much one of the most important things our body does that it needs to do, besides breathing. People don't realize that without good restorative sleep, it can affect every other system. Of course too much sleep isn't good either I suppose.

Tracey – that is the exact brace that I was looking at! GMTA What do you mean by “the instructions say you should leave it all night?” You shouldn’t wear it all night, is that what is meant?

Well, we got the controllers out, the log cabin, lights on the front of the yard. I’m so glad that now Vince is doing a little at a time. He used to do everything all at once.

Carol – this is why Vince isn’t putting up any trees:

    aeyhq42pkyqh.jpg

This WAS the Halloween tree. Never did get lights or ornaments on it. Can you just imagine what the kittens would do with 9 trees? So he’s said that he’s going to focus more on the outside decorations this year. I will post pics of the decorations. Can’t get a video up, tho

Got to figure out my exercise for next week, then have dinner, then ceramics.

In Canada, where Tracey is, Thanksgiving was in October.

There's no Thanksgiving in Australia but I am looking forward to Christmas. I just booked 3 days of recreation leave to get a full 17 days off.

We are not going anywhere. My plan is to spend the time unpacking and setting up the house. And if the weather is good I hope to make some progress on the garden.

I have my Christmas outdoor decorations done now. I will turn the lights on Nov. 24th. Thanksgiving is so late this year I figure a few days before Thanksgiving is good enough. I am celebrating Thanksgiving on a different day anyway. DS has to work that day so it will be the Tuesday after Dec. 3rd. We do this at Christmas too!. Actually I like it because everything closes up on both days I can just use both days to just relax. I did this last Christmas and really enjoyed it.

Barbie Sorry to hear Jake needs more surgery. No wonder all your coping mechanisms are challenged. It’s a lot. ((hugs))
Machka  the “real luxuries” meme. Truth. Was going to say that the idea of doing new things every day was exhausting, but then realized that at least twice a week I do new things, learn new dances ;) Why don’t you like output to Excel?
Annie what kind of music does your Dad’s sing along group do?
Tere wow that is quite a comeback. Thankful for your insightful DH, observant MD, and your resilient spirit. Well done!
Rebecca I’m with you about needing warmth to keep from being grumpy (at the very least :laugh!) Glad you have a friend you can laugh so much with. Thanks for the Golden Years meme, a real tea-snorter!
Margaret I can almost smell those roses from here. Lovely!
Lisa again Corey and Joe might be brothers from another mother, this time in clinging to stained, torn, worn T-shirts. Best I can do is set the worst next to his laptop. Sometimes he puts them in his rags box, sometimes he puts them on. [sigh] Ditto about being grateful for my life. Content too. Shadow agrees with Egg about the cold winter forecast. Her coat is so big and woolly she looks like a bear.
Thanks Pip, the one I borrowed did the trick ;) Enjoy the beach.
Heather I’m a little envious of your hand holding time. Joe’s never been big on affectionate displays. Only these past years when I determinedly kissed him and said “love, love, kiss, kiss” has he accepted such mushy stuff and only at home. That’s why it was such a big deal when he invited me in to the man cave for our together time last week. This morning we even chatted in the dining room after tea time. Progress!
Rita sorry to hear about your son, and the mud. Good for you for walking, meditating and continuing PT. Fingers X’d for the Dr.’s appointments. the pics.
Lanette bless Charlie for fixing your mower. Hope it can rest til spring, tho’. ;} Your farmers’ walks after meals are inspiring, but haven’t gotten on the bandwagon yet. How are the new shoes? Love the I-5 story, made me snort my water. Now that’s corrective feedback! I shudder at the notion of wearing a glucose monitor without the impetus of diabetes.
    Debbie brr!
Sue Brava for consistent exercise and 8 oz fruits/veggs. Well done!
Teri  the expression “nocturnal wanderings.” A little envious of your together meals. Joe and I eat at such different times and on the few occasions when we make the effort to sync for a meal, he eats quickly and leaves the table, while I dawdle and linger. The good thing is that when he leaves the table, it’s to do the dishes!
Michele was the bottle on its side or upright in the freezer?
    Tracey your decorations are so cheery! S s s n o w???
    Carol glad your DH back pedaled on the driving criticisms. When I drive Joe long distances, he reclines the seat and closes his eyes, best for everybody ;}
Kay oh yeah. Failure to plan and all that. Welcome back on board!

Sleeping. Hmm, same room, same bed, only about four hours the same. Yes, I toss, turn, snore and occasionally scream out from nightmares. Joe, bless him, hasn’t kicked me out yet. He usually gets UP around midnight and goes back to bed around two in the afternoon. I usually get up around six, go to bed around seven pm, sleep ‘til eleven, then back to sleep around three. Always grateful for a good, dreamless, second sleep.
    Gratitudes:
Tuesday: so far no trees down nor power outages so far this storm. Not pressing my luck, did 3 loads of laundry while I could ;)
Monday: patch of blue sky this morning.. That I’m physically able to go to BB&B and line dance. That even though average weight is up to 131.7 last week, it’s a far cry from the 165 where I started.
Decluttering challenge Day 44/30 micro steps
44- threw away the worn, moldy, disgusting loofah. Put its first replacement in the donation box, not scritchey enough. The WalMart $4 replacement best so far.
    Later, lighter, lovelies!

Wind is howling here and PUD has issued alerts that there may be downed trees and power outages. They reminded to charge up electronic devices. So far our lights here have just flickered. DD is on her way home. Will be glad when she is safely here.

Our horses have both grown thick coats. I hope that doesn't mean an extra cold winter. After all I moved here to get away from that. Have a sleigh ride planned in Dec depending on snow levels in the mountains at Levenworth. We will see.

Everyone take care. Hope all here in the PNW stay safe and power stays on.

Barb – the bottle was upright in the freezer. Right now most of the foot feels so much better except for my heel. Congrats on the weight loss. Vince was saying tonight how he lost weight a few years ago and has only put back on 2lbs. Grrrrr…..

I invited Lynette here for dinner the day after Thanksgiving two weeks ago. Last week she said to me “I’ll let you know as soon as I know”. Still haven’t heard from her. To me, this is a bit rude. I’m going to start food shopping and I need to know how many people to plan for. Honestly, I’ll probably plan that they’re coming. I got a 9lb turkey. So far there will be 6 of us, with them it’ll be 8. If they don’t come, we’ll just have more leftovers.

I did order the splint for PF since it also says it's good for Achilles Tendonitis. I'm thinking that that's the heel. Can't hurt. I hope it's gone by Thanksgiving because Jess will be here and if I don't take Ganon for a walk, she'll know something's up.
