Got the splint today and put it on for a little, just to get adjusted, etc. It seems that my heel pain is reduced. Now was it the splint? I don't know. But I'll wear it tonight.

Thank you all for your commiserations about Rodger sanding in the house. He changed his mind today and will do it in his shop. 🙄

Michele - the splint is to be worn at night, but it says not all night. I think because it is stretching your muscles out, it has to be done gradually.

A lot more to comment on but it’s a late night for me.

Top o’ the morning to y’all.

Busy all day. Latin Study Group this morning, then card making after lunch.

We have some snow on higher ground, but here on the coast it’s mostly rain with occasional sleet flurries. I’m into my winter clothes, as it’s still hovering around 2 *C.

Yesterday was mostly bright, and fairly calm, but very cold outside. I got lots of chores done inside.

I put my winter thermal, long-sleeved undergarment, on today. No snow here and no frost last night, but it has been freezing and the house cools down very quickly when the heating goes off. Lovely sun this morning, which warms my bedroom.
I wrote so much yesterday, it brought back my repetitive strain injury, so I gave myself the day off and went out to the shops. I bought Christmas stamps for cards, and posted a couple of homemade birthday cards out, one to my son and one to my DSIL. Focaccia and a Danish for John from the bakery, and a quick dash round local Sainsbury for bits and pieces. Then I called in at the Asian fish shop and butcher for frozen tilapia, that I use in fish soup with prawns. They are very nice in there. I also bought one of their giant garlics!
My knee survived the mile walk in total, and I could feel the muscles I have been exercising firing and getting tired. I think that's a good thing, as I have been targeting them, and trying to get them to take over. So I am pleased.

I've enjoyed texting my son in Nottingham over the last evening. He is an athletics coach, so I was able to ask him about my knee as well as send him pictures of our wedding anniversary. He is a very bad communicator, and I rarely hear from him, so it was cheering to have a little exchange. It's his birthday end of next week. I just put money in his account. I want to go up there, maybe in the spring, as I haven't seen him in ages. My knee needs to be strong enough for train travel and platform changes etc.

I spent over 2 hours in the garden today wielding my mattock. I've got sore shoulders now.

We have something like sea wheat grass in our lawn - I'm not 100% sure what it is. Most of our lawn is this stuff. It's horrible! It grows long, long thick roots with sharp bits, but the roots are shallow and the "grass" grows up out of the roots. So I can pull one end, and lift up a 2 or 3 feet length of root with grass bits. I am trying to dig it out bit by bit.

Imagine a fake Christmas wreath - it's something like that in texture and the root is like the wire that makes the wreath round.

Then we went for a bicycle ride.

Lisa - I bought my Vera Bradley bag at Macy's over a decade ago. The "innards"' are very similar to how you are making yours. What I really like about mine is that it has an adjustable shoulder strap. Since that's fabric too, it's starting to get a little frayed and worn but I think I'm the only one that notices.

Sue - I hope your power is back on. Looks like another round of wind today, not as bad as Tuesday's. I'm trying to think positive and crossing fingers that all of the trees and branches that were going to fall on the power lines did so on Tuesday so today there won't be anything left to mess us up. Nice of your neighbor to help round up the goats. Glad your DD was home to help.

Barbie - isn't it great not to have to put a lot of miles on our cars? No work commute is wonderful - I had a 50 mile round trip for years. :# I had new tires put on both of my old cars 2 years ago, and just realized I haven't rotated them yet. But then I haven't driven either of them 3,000 miles which is the recommended time to do it.

Michele - good luck with your PF. Sorry that you've been forced to cut back on your walking, hope you can resume soon.

Make it a great day, ladies!

    Morning, kidlins...

Well... got my shelves up, but need to swan my happy behind down to Lowes one more time this morning and pick up an eight-foot end board. Picture of my progress in the spoiler:
It's definitely not perfect, or completely level... The end board will stand up and be attached to the shelf ends at right, to stabilize and make it look more finished. Will also give me a way to string a rod from the back wall over the shelves to hang purses and handbags so they stay in good shape. The biggest PITA was that there is not a single straight line or level surface in this old house, so I literally had to readjust the shelves to be as close to level as I could get them, but still stay true to the surface they're on. Harder to get wood to work with uneven surfaces than fabric! 👀😃😹 b1gcpify56ho.png
I'll have to wait and paint the shelves in the spring, when I can get some good cross ventilation, but that's OK, they're still usable as they are - though I'll probably get some shelf paper for the interim.

Barbie - Thank you for that lovely compliment. I feel quite guilty sometimes, as I don't want folks to think I'm saying "look what I've got," and bragging. But I remember that Corey and I worked so hard to get to this place where both of our inclinations to build and change and improve things can be indulged. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it's definitely ours!

Tracey - Just a thought, because it sounds like something Corey would do... is it possible that Rodger was just trying to goose you by saying he was going to do something he knew you would hate, like sanding in the house? Took me a long time to figure out that nine times out of ten (if not more!) Corey's kidding with stuff like that. Certain manly-men types seem to feel any attention is good attention, and if we're irritated with them, we're paying attention. Like I said, just a thought.

Sue - Hope you get your power back soon! Being cold all day is just miserable.

Mo - I love reading your stuff, and have no issues following your leaps of thought... and look forward to the gas station story. And speaking of stories...

Have to go find my gloves before I head for Lowes. Not in that much of a hurry, as I want to give some time for the contractors that infest the lumber section to come and go. I don't mind them helping, but one called me "little lady" on Wednesday when he was helping me load shelves into my already loaded car. The patronizing tones kinda get up my nose. I got rid of that one when he asked me if "someone" was building shelves, and I answered, "Yep, the boards are for me, and the beer is for my husband!" Peeled him right off like a wart. 😶👀😂

Okay, kids... I've got to put some lotion on my feet and hands, as the 33 degrees outside translates to dry air inside from the heat. And with lotion on, I slide off the keyboard! 😹😽

    Later, my dears,
    Love,

Barbara AHMOD-my current plan is this will be last budget. I turned 70 a couple of weeks ago and think I am close to wanting to relax. I am checking out areas close to where I think I will be moving for volunteer activities, etc.

Got our first snow today. We had food pantry and the snow never stopped. Was so cold and wet after nearly two hours. Very busy-not certain of the final number yet. People were very grateful. While trying to keep my spirits up and forget my numb hand, I kept reminding myself how grateful I am to be providing the help and not needing it at this point.

Get to work from home tomorrow. Should make some good progress on budget. Need to put through some pay raise requests for a few people (updating some pay grades) so that will be nice (they aren't expecting it). Want new rates in effect before the pay adjustment for next year kicks in.

Well, I think I am going to go get under the blankets. The cold tired me out!

    Take care all,

I went to bed at 8:45 p.m. and woke up at almost 3 a.m. I put a load of laundry in the machine and cleaned my floors with the swifter. I decided to make tea, and while the kettle was on, I emptied the dishwasher. Then I let Rose out, but it was cold outside, yet this crazy dog wanted me to walk her out in my ancient gown. I purchased this gown from Landsend almost thirty years ago. I remember removing it and swaddling my son in my gown so he would sleep with my scent. Can you believe it worked?! So now it has some holes, but I love to wear it when cold.
My DH hates this gown. I call it my granny gown. My granny reminded me of a little house on the prairie when she was alive. She wore a gown button-up to her neck and a white cotton bonnet with a long braid sticking out. I have a lot of her ways. My aunt asked her if my grandpa minded her dressing that way. She replied that she got pregnant 18 times, so apparently not. When my aunt confessed that she slept in the nude, Granny didn't like that. She called her a heifer. I didn't have the heart to tell her that her oldest son slept that way. After that, I grew up thinking it was wrong to sleep naked. My DH thinks I have some weird beliefs on that. Besides my infertility issues, I did get pregnant 6 times. I just had trouble keeping them. We took five losses to figure out how to keep my son in.
Sorry, guys, you probably figured out that I have ADHD. First, I get nostalgic about my gown, then my granny.
Back to my dog, I did go walking alone with my playlist going. I put Rose in day camp. I loved it! I finished my walk in less time, and my heart rate was 152. I cooled down with Elton John. I went to the market, but finding the things I love there was hard. I got Rose and me a rotisserie chicken and left. I finally got home, did strength training, and spoke to a friend. I organized my meds, too. Today, I will do Step Aerobics and work from home. I may need to cut down on Rose's day camp. They said that the dogs were too much for her, and she barked till they let her out to sleep in her room. Maybe the 3-mile walk was too much for her??? I think I will walk on the trail close to my house so I will not over-tax her. I bought Rose two Thanksgiving toys and bully sticks; she was happy to be home.
Sue, I am sorry about the storm damage and power outages. I hate to lose power. Typically, in MS, we lose control, too, when a storm hits. This time, it was not so bad.

Heather, you are on top of your shopping. I am thinking about getting DS either a new laptop or luggage. I may purchase her gift cards and bath stuff for DD for Christmas. For DH, I have no clue yet. As I am typing this, I just realized his B-day is in two days. Maybe a plant and clothes for the trip. We will be
in Florida on 12/13. Eddie sounds like a powerhouse. Next, she will play LaCrosse.

Terri, that is pretty cold. Where in the country do you live? I am sending hugs and prayers your way.

Tracey, I am so glad your DH decided to go to his shop to do the work. Does he need a heater in the shop? I am trying to understand why he wanted to do woodwork in the house in the first place.

Machka, you have inspired me to take the stairs at work. Like my co-workers, I do not want to get stuck in the elevator for four hours. Twenty-two flights of stairs are impressive.

Pip, I love your Chispa.

Lisa, Your family will love the items you made. Does your family live in Hawaii? I am so excited about your next project or business venture.

Next time, I will tell you about my gas station scare.

    XO,
    Mo in Mississippi

I have to pack a sleeping gown when I visit my sisters next week. Her routine is to sit in her covered patio and sip her morning coffee still in her sleeping clothes. I always borrow some sort of fleece coat to put over my satin gown. I need the satiny feel or I feel claustrophobic not being able to move around the bed at night. I am a heifer, lol, I sleep in the nude at home.😁
