Good weekend!
My husband and I went to Launceston on Saturday afternoon and in the evening, we attended a banquet.
There were two highlights:
1) The banquet was vegetarian! And only one dish had mushrooms, which I could avoid easily ... the rest were mushroom-free.
I figured it was going to be one of those disappointing banquets where they alternate dishes at the table: chicken, beef, fish, chicken, beef, fish ... and even if I do end up with the chicken, it's usually not very good. If I end up with either of the other choices, I eat the teensy spoonful of salad and the one potato and come away hungry.
I was thrilled when it wasn't like that at all ... it was all vegetarian. Best banquet ever!!
2) The "entertainment" was a panel interview of 3 cyclists including Richie Porte!! I got to meet Richie Porte!! All three were good, one was a top cyclist of yore, one was a Commonwealth and Olympic cycling medallist, Georgia Baker, and of course ... Richie Porte.
This morning, my husband and I did a fairly challenging 55 km bicycle ride as a part of Sally's Ride, a ride to raise money for mental health. It's the longest ride we've done in a while.
Beautiful warm day: 26.6° C (80F)

My bedside light is fairly dim, but I'm usually reading on my Kindle, so I don't notice. The biography that John bought me is a book, and it was a strain to read last night. I found an old booklight, and used that, but it's not very well designed, so I have bought a new one from Amazon. Then I realised it would make a good Santa present for John, so I re-ordered. He often complains that I have the living room lights too low for his crosswords and sudoku. I've bought him various lights over the years, but none have been satisfactory, and they reflect in the TV screen. I hope this will work.
Dim Sum for lunch. Fish soup for dinner. At last I have some gorgeous King Prawns from the fish market, because John braved the wind to get down there, and I bought the tilapia the other day. Just have to make some croutons and aioli. Grate some cheese.
It's still windy, (Storm Bert), but much warmer, with the wind from the south.
I did a good long exercise session this morning. Feeling virtuous, but my knee can feel it.
I'm gearing up to write a difficult episode in my 'What If .....' book. Probably the most important in my life, with the most positive eventual effects, but it certainly didn't feel like that at the time.
I should think we all have those moments........ ???

Morning, my chickadees,
So, the gut stayed quite reasonably quiet, but the vertigo was in and out yesterday. Had a couple of stumbly/staggeries walking in and out the kitchen door to the carport - two steps down. So... Corey plunked me in a chair until I was able to navigate. It subsided reasonably quickly, but came back as soon as I looked upward, or swiveled my head quickly.
But - slept well, about seven hours, and so far no vertigo... fingers crossed it's done for a bit. Tried very hard not to sleep on my right side, which really seems to help.
Got a little more clearing up to do with the detritus left from moving all the boxes out from under work tables, and I'll be ready to start the next bag project! Excited for this one. Then again, I'm excited for all of them. 👀😍😃
Sue - So glad your electric's back on! Hope your heater gets fixed easily and well today.
Machka - Had to look up Richie Porte, as I've never seen you fangirl over anyone before! 😍😽 🚴🏼 Looks like an interesting guy, and I can see why he would be fascinating for you to meet.
Cars and the like. There was no "driver's education" in my small, rural school, and I didn't get a driver's license until I went in the military. I got lessons from the Air Force on how to drive a standard ton and a half truck on the flight line. I had to have a pillow behind my back and one under me in order to reach the steering wheel and to see over it!
It was American specs, with the gearshift on the right, and I had to pick up goods at the warehouses at RAFB Mildenhall and drop them at the base hospital at RAFB Lakenheath. That's how I blew out my knee, jumping off the back, landed wrong. My first personal car I bought there was an ancient Ford Cortina, also a standard, but with the gearshift on the left.
Heather - Yes, I had three. The last blow-up with my father, and the next year of struggling on my own. My mother's death and the two years of depression that followed. And watching my 28-year marriage implode. I even tried anti-depressants, until I figured out I wasn't depressed, I just wanted out. All of those things got me here. In fact, I realized something on reading this post back. If I were still married to my first husband, I'd have fallen down those stairs to the carport because he wouldn't have cared enough to be here, or to help if he was here. He was unable to love another human being--and genuinely cared more about the dog than me. 🥺
Hoo! That's enough of a heavy wade on a peaceful Sunday morning... Stop making me think, woman! 👀😃😍
And... I'm outta here.
Love y'all,

He was a professional cyclist born and raised in Tasmania, in a town I use as the start/finish point for several of the rides I organise. So of course, that has been interesting for many Tasmanians. Many of us have had very late nights watching him race. And while he hasn't done as well as some of the top names, his career has been quite respectable.
I grew up loving cycling, following cycling in magazines when we didn't have a TV, and following cycling on TV when I finally got a TV as an adult. And I have done a lot of different aspects of cycling, including racing.
But living where I did in Canada, I never got a chance to get anywhere near a professional cyclist or professional race.
When I got to Australia, a number of years ago, I was thrilled to attend a World Championship Criterium ridden by professional cyclists. I had never actually seen them in action before. And for me it was exciting to listen to a professional cyclist talk and then meet him. Georgia Baker was quite interesting too and I got to meet her as well. I think it's a better world for female racers now than when I was racing. Back in those days, I was often the only female out there or one of a very few! Now there are female teams.
Cycling is where my passion lies.

PS. You won't likely see me fangirl over actors - they're just actors and acting is often all they can do.
Or politicians - my husband and I, separately and together, have met quite a few of them. Him through his work as a journalist and PR person and me through my local and state government work. Both of us through our efforts in cycling advocacy. They can be useful sometimes, but they don’t particularly interest me.

Sue Do you have a space heater you can run in your kitchen. I learned when the heat went off at my son's that if it gets to 40 degrees in the kitchen the refrigerator will not work properly. It affects the defroster. Sorry you lost your heat.
Last night I had a friend over for pot roast. I bought a grass fed roast and farmer's market veggies. She brought over the dessert and since she knows I am gluten and low sugar she brought dates stuffed with gorgonzola cheese and walnuts. So good. She had an extra ticket to a Chamber orchestra concert. True dates are a sugary fruit. They are also high in fiber. For me a better choice than cake or cookies.
One of my holiday decorations I have on my coffee table...

Rita - what type of exercises is the PT having you do for your back? Bridging? My lower back is still grumpy and I even took an ibuprofen when I went to bed. Did my bridging and stretching yesterday which did help a bit.
Tracey - those plates are a hoot. Glad you sold some items at the show and that's a nice Christmas decoration you found. Good luck at today's show.
Sue - hope your power is back on.
Vicki - thinking of you!

I put pictures of the back exercises I have in a spoiler. Therapy has been doing mostly massage then a ‘tinge’ unit or dry needles with electricity. I did show them the pictures in the spoiler and they said that Yoga was the best thing for the back. The pictures I have included were fine. Stretching and strengthening the back muscles are the best exercises for the back. There are plenty of YouTube videos on back exercises too, I was told. I just use my yoga app called “Yoga for Weight Loss” which has a yoga set specifically for the back. I am very flexible and been doing Yoga right along so I do the last ones on the right (hardest ones) but the ones on the left are the easiest. Ignore the “Osteo-whatever” on the top. They are good for all back issues,(unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Mine said go for it)

Did 11,475 steps yesterday! YAY me! Will be less today. Got up too late for my early walk. Need to do reservations next. I’ll see if I can do a long walk with that, then again after lunch. Walking feels so good to me and comes highly recommended by my back doctor as long as I wear my brace!

My first car was a 63( I think, or maybe a 62) Ford Fairlane-standard shift on the column. Dad taught me to drive. I had drivers training in high school but hated it-the teacher scared me but I did pass it. I didn't get my car and license until after my first year of college. Got tired of trying to get rides to class every day. We lived almost 20 miles from the college and over 10 of that was way out in the country- no bus service out there. I would ride with a neighbor and sit for hours until my first class sometimes then sit for hours for my last class and then ride home with my best friend as we were taking the same classes.
Dad was a patient teacher for the most part. I would drive with him in the car over to work at a summer camp near our house, he would drive back to the house and then come back when I was done and I would drive home- It was only about 3 miles at most.
He always teased until he passed away, about the time I was going a bit too fast for him when I turned into their driveway- telling me to put on the brake. I told him I was, but he said, Not enough!!!.
Bought the car from my uncle for $500 and two years later, sold it back to him for, yep, $500. Wish I still had that old car. I was getting married and moving across country so didn't need it.

Sue - that was a long time to be without power, wow. Sorry your furnace is acting up; hope the repairman can get it going quickly. And crossing fingers we don't get any more windstorms for a long, long time! Is this the longest you've ever been without power at the farm?
Rita - thank you for those back exercises and yoga. I'm going to add a few to my morning stretch routine. Glad you can get your walks in and your brace is helping.
Debbie - I also learned to drive shift on the column and 4 then 4 on the floor on a Carry-all. Drove a friend's Volkswagen. 2 of my Subaru Foresters had standard shift on the floor.
Appointment with Dr. Matt tomorrow, will catch him up on lab results, etc. Not sure if he'll have anything else to suggest, things seem to be going along OK so far.
Reminder that Weekly Check-In is tomorrow for those participating. TIA

My latest purchase, a potting bench, $60 bucks!, I love it! May switch the placement of it, we’ll see. It has wheels for easy movement!

Did Jane Fonda’s Firm & Burn DVD (a new one for me. A Salvation Army find), then some of the Total Stretch DVD, then rode the exercise bike downstairs. Like you know, I usually like to go for a walk, but I’m trying to stay off my foot as much as possible so I rode the bike today instead. Then had to go to WalMart. ?Then to Kohl’s only to have the girl tell me that my 30% off coupon wouldn’t work on pet things. There’s nothing in the exclusions. Well, I’ll wait until I get another 30% off coupon. I also have a coupon for $5 off that expires 12/10
We finished putting the lights on the “fence”. I told Vince how proud I was of him to be doing a little at a time rather than everything all at once like he used to do. He’d say that after T day he had two weeks and then started decorating for Christmas. This year he’s started after Halloween.’’
Deb – happy birthday to your dh. Vince says that the cats need the wet food because they need to moisture. They have a water fountain and a water bowl!
Jess wanted an SUV but wanted it to be a standard. Do you know how hard that is to find??? She finally found one in TN. To have it shipped to VA (where she was living at the time) would have been $500. It would have been ½ that much to have it shipped here to Hickory. So she had it delivered to Hickory and drove down here to pick it up
Vince has been having some vertigo lately (what’s going on?). But he says it’s getting better. He’s thinking that Tuesday we’ll put the light on the arches. He didn’t want to do it today because the vertigo – while infrequent – is still there
Remember when I had what I thought was a callous. Well, it’s back. The podiatrist cut some out, he thought it looked like I had a piece of wood in there. I’m going to call him tomorrow, set up another appt. and ask him if there’s some sort of lazer or acid they can put on it so that it won’t keep coming back. Maybe that has something to do with the heel hurting? I doubt it, but who knows?
Going to rest my foot a bit and then make the bed. Stripped all the beds from our guests and have to make them, but that doesn’t need to be done today so it’ll just wait for another day. Who knows? Maybe I can get Jess to help. That is, if I don’t get to it first...lol

Hip! Hip! Hooray! The temperature has gone back up today. Just over 10*C. Had a lovely visit with DED. Older g/son was visiting as well. I’m really looking forward to having the other two here over the Christmas holiday.
I’m on my 6th car. A Ford Cortina; A Sunbeam Trio; A new Nissan Micra, great little runner, sold it to my SiL; A two year old low mileage Toyota 4 wheel drive Rav4, my favourite, but very hard on petrol; My current car, a new Nissan Juke, now 9 years old, with less than 180;000 miles on the clock. We had one car when we were first married. I only passed my test in my late 20s because I was going to teacher Training College, and needed to drive there. All standard. Never driven an automatic. The Ford was the first car that was wholely mine.
🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

I don’t own a cat, but look after my neighbours for her. Hers only gets 1/4 cup of dry food in the morning and in the evening she gives the same but she adds a quarter can of wet food.
Michele - isn’t Jess a vet? Couldn’t she tell Vince what is best for them.
Sue - how long have you been without power?
Machka - Parking where you stalled it. 😂 I would probably do the same.
Heather - finding a good book light is a real find.
I’ve had a few of those moments in my life too. They sure are difficult times to get through.
Margaret - your friend is very thoughtful. Pretty arrangement.
Rita - a lot of those exercises are ones my physio recommended for my hips too.
My first owned car was a 1978 Pontiac Acadian. Loved that car. It was a standard.
I learned to drive standard on a 1 tonne truck, 3 speed and a Dodge Arrow. I learned more about driving it sitting in the passenger seat doing the shifting for my boyfriend though. Then being forced to drive one night when everyone that knew how to drive it drank too much and I hadn’t had a drop.
Pip - I love the potting bench. It’s so pretty at night!
I really cleaned today, working off a good mad. I’ve been feeling very resentful of Rodger I don’t know how to change my attitude. If I said everything I was feeling in the mood I’m in I would cause a big fight that I just don’t want.
I did get him to do something today I’ve been angry about for months now, and I told him what I thought he should do for burning ornaments tomorrow so that I can paint and finish them this week and then get the mess put away.
The baseboard has been sitting on the floor in the hallway since last September. It took until March to get the walls done and this has still Bennet lying there. Today I decided I would install it myself. Well grab a hammer and nails, start the job and realize I put the wrong piece in the wrong spot. He helped me figure it out and then ended up finishing it.
I am very irritable, I don’t even like myself right now. Maybe I’ll feel better tomorrow. I’m tired, my house was a mess and not relaxing so maybe a good nights sleep will help.
It’s also coming up on the anniversary of Dad’s death. 12 years ago last week I arrived in NB. You would think after all these years the memories would lessen of those weeks in the hospital and more happy times would take over, but it’s not happening yet at this time of year.
Have a great day everyone. Chat tomorrow.

Ah, Tracey, big hugs. I think every married person has been there! Plus the memories of your dad. Quite the combination.
Would journalling help? Writing it all out can help you decide what you are really angry/upset about.
But sometimes we do have to have those hard conversations. The cost of keeping our feelings under wraps is often an explosion at the wrong moment. Mine used to come out when I'd had a few drinks. Not proud of myself.
Stuffing everything down can make us ill. It can help to ask them how they are feeling right now. I guess he isn't feeling so great about himself either. Then listen. Hard I know, not to come back with something, some angry suggestion, but really listening for understanding can help both parties. No criticism. Then you could talk about your dad. Sometimes being vulnerable is the way to go. Feeling overwhelmed this time of year is totally normal. I should think half of women feel the same way! 'It's the most horrible time of the year'. We are expected to do everything and money worries crowd in. Being the family 'leader' and matriarch is a big responsibility. I remember KJ saying she felt as if she had to keep the world up on her shoulders, like a female Atlas.
Luckily for me, I'm now past that stage in life, and now play the 'old lady' card with glee. I've abandoned most responsibilities. But it is so real for you and your generation, shouldering everything.
Yes, you are strong. But you are not superhuman.
I think you are wonderful. I like you.

This is a large part of why I'm on antidepressants. They dampen down my moods.
That said, there have been moments here and there (not frequently) where I have said everything I was feeling knowing it would cause a big fight. But without that he would never know what I was feeling/thinking.
I'm not a big fan of hiding what I'm feeling/thinking for too long.
However, you might start with Heather's suggestion about asking him how he's doing and see if he is willing to talk about his feelings. In my house, 4 times out of 5, he wouldn't want to talk ... but occasionally ...

Tracey - glad Roger took the hint and finished that baseboard for you. I think they get blind. As Heather mentioned, you've been running at full speed the past few weekends and it's probably will continue. Your dad was a neat guy, don't blame you for still missing him. (((HUGS)))
Heather - glad you are getting the reading lights. Sure makes a difference. I have 2 lamps in my living room, one by my recliner and another on the other side of the room I rarely used. A few weeks ago I decided to turn both of them on - makes a world of difference and brightens everything up wonderfully with the fall/winter overcast and gloom setting in these days.
Has anyone heard from Kelly KJ? Hope all is well at her house. Miss her - she probably is juggling many plates in the air right now.
Ginny - I neglected to mention what a cute photo of your grandbaby.
Allie - Delia is adorable and she's growing so fast.
Beth - so sorry to hear about all of the funerals. Two more of my former dispatchers died in the past couple months - they were younger than me. I hadn't kept up with them much after I retired but had a lot of admiration and respect for them, they had hard jobs and worked crazy hours.
Lisa - love those shelves! Isn't it a good feeling to be able to find things quickly? Plus such a pleasure to look at. My potting shed used to look kind of like that before it became the chicken headquarters, lol. Hope your vertigo wraps up the visit and goes on an extended vacation.
Pip - speaking of potting shed, what an adorable potting bench! About ten years ago I found one similar to yours at a furniture store at a reasonable price when I wasn't looking for one... came home, thought about it, went back the next day and it was gone. Love the way you use those little lights in several areas. Your photos are better than thumbing through Sunset Magazine.
I think Rori on the way to Thailand. Can't wait to see some pictures.
Michele - I keep forgetting to tell you how impressed I am that you do an exercise video most days. You've been doing them for as long as I can remember! I think I'd be in much better shape had I done that and made it a daily habit. You are proof that it works. Sorry to hear about your foot - crazy that they can't get it cleared up once and for all.
Shipping delays: Has anyone been experiencing delays in shipments? I ordered pants from Land's End last week, they were supposed to be here on Friday, then Saturday, then yesterday and a no show. Looks like they finally did arrive at my local post office. Amazon - same thing on some items. Maybe the Christmas rush has started already.
Chromebook: Last week I bought an inexpensive Chromebook at Walmart, so I took it out of the box yesterday to get it charged up and see what's what. After dealing with Windows, the Chrome is similar but uses a little different language to describe the functions. Kind of like Windows 11 . I'm looking forward to spending more time on it and getting familiar with how to navigate around. So far it does look pretty simple and it's fun to wrap my brain around new technology. I found a brand new wireless mouse in my "technology" drawer. Score!
Did a fairly major backup and grabbed things from this old HP yesterday. Between the constant popups from McAfee warning me the world will come to an end if I don't renew and now a warning from HP that I need to sign up for their $$ service, I'm ready for this thing to have a meltdown and just be done with it!
Finishing up my notes to take to Dr. Matt this morning.
Try not to overdo the Thanksgiving preparations. Collette invited me to her house on Thursday, I declined so she said she'd make me a plate to drop off. That sounds perfect to me, she's a great cook. And if she doesn't drop something off, that's OK too.
Have a good week.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
I had a rough night. Either stomach flu or the diverticulitis came back. But it seems to be settling down now. I wonder if I dare eat anything for breakfast. Maybe some tea first.

Lisa ~ You have wonderful organizational skills and such a good work ethic. The craft room looks wonderful.
PIP ~ Your patio with all the plants and the planter looks lovely...especially in the evening with the twinkling lights.
Tracey ~ So sorry you are going through a rough phase. I think you mentioned last month that your husband might not be working for a while. Could that have something to do with the mood in your home?
Lanette ~ Enjoy your new Chrome book. I use Total AV as my virus protector and it seems to be working well. My husband uses Avast. Your neighbor sounds like a good friend dropping by a special plate of TG food.
Cars: I learned to drive on my brother's stick shift but only used it when I was still in high school. I can't even remember all the cars that my husband and I have owned. My favorite was a Lincoln Continental that was bought used and it was the year those cars were discontinued. Now is a Honda Pilot that is easy to drive but not easy for short me to get into the driver's seat.
TV & Internet: I just learned that our xFinity/Comcast bundle has gone up $50 higher than what we have been paying. Evidently, where we live, this service is almost considered a monopoly as the only other similar service is AT&T's bundle. Since so much of our time is spent watching TV and using the internet I guess we will pay it.
My DH went to the ER this AM at 7 and found out that he has bronchitis. He has been complaining of not being able to breathe for almost a week so I'm glad he finally got diagnosed. I will be going tot the pharmacy to pick up meds as soon as they open.
Prayers and Good Wishes to All!
