Day 88 AF Happy here. Remember, things don't magically start to happen. You create the magic.8

Thank you for your continued inspiration @globalhiker! And 88 days is incredible - you are demonstrating to others it CAN be done. May we all make it a magical day!
Today is another AF day for me. That’s 3/4 days this week. I’ve also been to the gym 6 times in 12 days and plan to continue in December. It’s a great stress buster for me along with getting enough sleep.
I heard on a psychology show that when changing a habit, it’s easier for people to find something new to works towards, instead of feeling like they are only leaving something behind. I find this is true for me with my LA journey as I find more satisfaction and appreciation in trying new things (or something new) each day.
For those celebrating, have a safe, healthy LA and happy U.S. Thanksgiving tomorrow! 🦃🍁🥧

Happy Wednesday my friends.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my LA friends! We’ve decided not to cook this year since it would be just the two of us. And, I haven’t been doing that well with my LA goals. We do have family and friends. But they’re scattered all over the country.
But no worries…I called the diner down by the freeway and they will be open tomorrow. And, we can even do take-out. We do have a small turkey in then freezer. My husband commented that we could cook that at another time. It doesn’t nave to be Thanksgiving to have a turkey dinner. Same thing with corned beef. It doesn’t have to be cooked only on St Patrick’s day.
Here in the PNW, the rain seems to have stopped (for now). But, like they say, “If you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes!”. I still have a couple of outdoor projects that I would like to get done. Maybe, I can get those done this week.
I hope you all have a great day! And I look forward to seeing you all next month.6 -

I hope everyone who celebrates it has a wonderful Thanksgiving!!6 -
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! One of the things I’m thankful for is the wonderful people in this group. Thank you for all your kind words and support over the years, especially lately.
Oh @NonnieDoiron , I feel for you, so much. You’re really in the thick of it. I hope your dad starts to feel better. Is he hospitalized? Also hope your MIL’s procedure goes well, even to just give her some relief for the breathing and swallowing. But, I just wonder, will she be strong enough to she bounce back? Or is it time to consider palliative care? Either way, I can see why you’re a ball of stress dealing with your own and everyone else’s stress!!! Big giant hug.
As for your birthday, it totally sucks that milestones are overshadowed by other
issues. A 50th birthday is really something special, and you deserve to celebrate it however you want. A big blow-out party would probably be a nice distraction and inject a shot of joy in your family’s lives. But I gotta say, a getaway to someplace fun with your bestie sounds even more compelling to me! More big hugs.4 -
So much for our no alcohol/ no carbs. Yesterday my sister and BIL came to stay, and hubby cooked a big linguine and clam sauce dinner with garlic bread for dinner last night. Yum! But my body really can’t tolerate all that pasta, so between that and two glasses of wine, my weight is up slightly. I am going to the gym today so that will start my day on the right foot. It’s raining here so we blew off the 5K we signed up for.
I do feel so much more in control lately. Got a lot of stuff done in time for Thanksgiving. The worst was having to pack all the boat stuff into bins and put in the basement! I am missing sailing, so much!!! Well, spring will be here before we know it, and then back in the boat!4 -
Happy Thanksgiving LA Friends! THANKFUL for all of you.
Thanksgiving is day 89 AF for me. Kids wanted to save the turkeys so we voted on Ribs. Smoked BBQ Ribs with homemade BBQ sauce, beans, red mini potatoes, jalapeno cornbread, and likely green vegetables nobody will eat. 3 containers of Talenti gelato, 1 tub of whipped cream, an apple pie and a pumpkin pie. I warned the crew to skip breakfast and double-up on that morning walk. I'm taking my NA butt up off the chair and getting busy to clean the house. Slap that sportswatch on and try to pre-burn 600 calories to make room for gelato.
Who needs alcohol anyway when you have smoked BBQ baby back ribs?6 -
Checking in on my LA friends to say how grateful I am for each of you and what you bring to this thread. I wouldn’t have any success without you.
The table is set, sides are finished, the brined turkey breast is ready, and I still want to make an apple crisp. Now leaving for the train station to pick up my elderly mom!
Had some Chardonnay last night while prepping and slept okay. Got up way too early though!
I did buy the grapefruit fever-tree and will have in place of standard Prosecco. Don’t want to open a whole bottle since I’m the only one who would have any. Will most likely have some wine with dinner. But I’m ready to have a quiet Sat/Sunday and start December LA goals!
May you have a blessed day!6 -
Thanksgiving Gratitude
A massive thank you to the am
azing people here for the continuous support, collaboration, and hard work to keep our thread active and to give our participants the encouragement they need for each of their journeys.
Bless you all.
My trip away consists of visiting 3 different casinos. You know why people love coming to these?
Unlimited FREE drinks. Top shelf alcohol.
Right now I am on my second hot cocoa, nothing added. Not kidding, it is delicious.
My last longest dry streak since 2012 was either 54 days or 64 days I am going to beat that....I can feel it.
Each and everyone enjoy this day.

OMG guys, LA wine for the WIN!!!!! Seriously it was so great to sip it all day, and not get wasted and need a nap while hosting! Best thing ever. I did have one real drink, but that’s it! Plus, I didn’t pork out.
My dogs are barking though! In bed already! Hope everyone enjoyed their day with family and friends.6 -
Just lurking this month - see you in December - Happy Thanksgiving6

Happy Black Friday! Today is Day 90 AF. Thanksgiving AF was awesome. It's like your senses sharpen & heighten and get greater pleasure from just conversing with the people around you and enjoying tasty food. My wine devil asks "what's the game plan now"? Answer: wine devil baby, I'm taking us on another 90 day AF round.
My personality is such that small goals don't motivate me. And too-big goals like AF for life cause a feeling of un-ease. I feel like another round of 90 AF days is a do-able next stretch.
Lurkers out there and the rest of us - get psyched to commit to a happier and better you

Morning to the day after Thanksgiving!
Had a wonderful time with family ages 6-88.
Had a great LA day too. Started with a fever tree grapefruit in a beautiful red martini glass at 5:00 p.m.
Then one light cran cocktail (didn’t finish) and one glass of white wine at dinner and one while lingering after dinner with a game. I made much better choices than drinking early in the afternoon. In past years, I may have had 4-5 glasses of wine on a holiday. For me, there is no need anymore and I feel great this am.
Had great fun with my DD’s family who stayed late (sign of a good time)? We broke up the night at 9:00, then I cleaned all the dishes and the entire kitchen before bed and slept 9 1/2 hours.
Have a great Black Friday day!

@globalhiker Congratulations on 90 days. But please be careful. I'm the one that had 118 days AF. After 90 days, I figured that I didn't need to count the days anymore. So, I started counting months. Well, needless to say, it didn't go well.
You (and I) know how much better it feels without alcohol. And, we have a similar mindset. To say, "I'm never drinking again!", sounds too permanent. But, to say, "I'm not going to drink for the next 30, 60, or 90 days", makes it much more manageable.
I haven't been doing well at all in the AF department. But, what I like about this group, is that we start a new thread every month. It's like a new start. I HOPE to do well in December.
Keep up the good work. And...please send me some good vibes 🙂

November LA was good in the sense of staying within limits, but not in overall days. This will be my focus in December. Hope to see each of you on the new thread.6

AF = 13

Well… A days won out this month. Declaring tonight AF. Basically, there’s nothing to drink, and I’m not going to the store.
Thanksgiving was great. My parents hazard the drive down for the day with oxygen tank in tow for my dad. This trip was a test run to see how my dad would handle travel. Unfortunately, they had a wreck while on their way down. Fortunately, minimal damage to the car and no injuries. Dad handled travel with an accident very well. Didn’t even need the oxygen!
Bestie and I had a great visit. Just being together made things better. I was able to rant, she was able to rant, she avoided drama at her mother’s house by coming here, and we had fun.
I told my husband he really made me sad and angry about my birthday. I told him it hurt me that he didn’t want to celebrate me, and I cried (not intentionally, but my tears always get him more upset). He apologized and said he wanted to celebrate me, but again he says that now. If his mom dies from this surgery though, I know it will all change. Later, his best friend was at the house and apparently my husband told him about it. His friend told me, “we’re going to have a huge birthday bash for you! You will be celebrated!” I don’t know what that means, but I guess we’ll see what happens. I’m not banking on anything though because if I don’t make it happen, then it doesn’t happen. A big bash may mean nothing more than dinner and ice cream cake (I hate ice cream cake). Like I said, we’ll see.🤷🏻♀️8 -
I didn’t overdo it yesterday- one glass of champagne to celebrate my birthday, and one glass of wine at dinner. So glad I didn’t go for that cocktail before dinner-the champagne at home was enough! Took it easy and had a great nap.
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend, and see you in the December thread!3 -

So very sorry to hear your folks were in an accident, glad they are ok.
I am keeping my fingers crossed your husband and his helpers will throw you the missed celebrations you deserve. If it is not up to your expectations, let them know. They should not skimp and dodge what you have missed out on.❤5 -

Oh gee your weather is as nuts as ours right now. Like your thinking on the food. I have gone non traditional many years. I DESPISE HAM, to salty for me. See you in December.3 -
I am declaring my November accountability even though it is only 9:45AM.
0 alcohol
0 sugar in coffee
If I can continue to give up 1 bad habit for my health every month that would be awesome.
Probably the one bad habit that is toughest for me (not really health related)is cussing. It seems to just flow out so easily with these people driving without any real good driving skills around here. So good visual here, me rolling my eyes and cussing like an old sailor. 🤣
See you ALL in December follow this link

@MissMay thanks for the reminder that limits are as important as AF days, I am seeing this too.
What a glorious declaration for your month on November. 0 and 0 Wowza - very happy for you!1 -
@SurferGirl1982 sending good vibes your way!
Today is day 91 AF, tomorrow starts a new month and round 2 for me. What are we waiting for?4 -
@globalhiker Thanks for the good vibes. You are doing great!
Unfortunately, my husband just went to the store. He was going to the grocery and liquor store. I just called him to tell him not to buy any alcohol. But, he said he was already there. So, it doesn't look like tomorrow will be AF. Lately, my sleep patterns have been way off. I sleep during the day and I'm up half of the night. Our liquor store doesn't open until 11am tomorrow, so I was worried about waking up in the middle of the night, feeling bad and not having anything. This HAS to stop!
Keep up the good work. And, I will be with you very soon! I'm serious...I want to feel good again!
Take care and talk to you soon!1 -

@surfergirl1982 I know maybe I might be stepping into your space by saying this, but I really need to ask.
What if you said tomorrow. You know (insert your husband's name here) even though you bought us stuff at the liquor store yesterday (smile very politely and if possible, bat your eye lashes) I am going to hold off drinking alcohol today and join you by drinking this other ( non-alcoholic) beverage.
There are truly only two things that could happen, correct? Either you do go ahead and drink or you don't.
I actually had my husband say to me once (because he felt threatened by me NOT drinking with him WHICH IS SO FREAKN INSANE)
He said, "You NOT drinking is putting a stain on our relationship." I know, a real WTF moment that was for me.
I had to step back, walk out of the room to try and process what was just said to me. I came back in where he was later and said, the strain is not caused by me, it is a strain you are bringing upon yourself and blaming me for, then walked back out.
You see I have had many blockades along my journey to drink LESS. I consider it a personal choice. Not a group choice. I don't want to start out a day or night with the strict intention of me drinking to make someone else's life better because that is what they expect from me.
Keep us posted, and again I hope I did not step over a boundary by asking you this.6
