Pip- the time the scammer came to my door this summer, Rosie was barking so loud I could barely hear him and I finally said "I can't hear you and it's driving my dog nuts." And closed the door. Even small dogs are a deterrent.
Lisa - I agree 100%, smiling has gotten me through a lot in my life as well. I was thrilled to learn that just activating the "smile" muscles creates the feel-good neurotransmitters. I try to smile and laugh a lot throughout the day. And right before bed I always watch some silly YouTubes that get me in tears from laughter. I wonder if that's part of the reason I sleep so well? As I look back at my life, my favorite people were the silly ones that made me laugh and that's what I remember about them. I think a lot of people cherish those types of relationships.
Heather - ever since you made meatballs a couple days ago, I put pork sausage and hamburger back on the grocery list and will either make meatballs or a meatloaf on Friday. I'm so glad you mentioned it. Also happy to hear you got a couple miles of walking in and your knee didn't complain any extra.
Jennifer - I am so glad you are here with us. As Lisa mentioned, many of us have gone through similar with husbands going through interviews or living and working far away and our own medical/biopsy challenges. I like to think the biopsies are just an extra precaution that doctors automatically do. I've had 2: one an endometrial in the doc's office and the other a laparoscopic under anesthesia for an ovarian cyst and post- meno bleeding, so a D & C scheduled as well. Both biopsies clear. The intake nurse for the 2nd one told me that lots of ladies go through this and the vast majority of the time there's nothing to worry about. What a relief.
Michele - when you and Vince go to Florida, do you get to see the SpaceX launches? I hope this latest visit to the podiatrist helps your foot. I decided to try moleskin on a couple of my toes to see if that little bit of padding helps. I refuse to let my podiatrist win with his "it's only going to get worse" prediction.
Debbie- love your decorations! I see a neighbor down the street put up his inflatables and when the temps got down in the 20's at night they deflated. Sitting in the house with the tree lit and a cup of tea sounds wonderful, takes me back to my childhood.
Tere - I love it when you stop and get us caught up. I don't blame Rafiq for wanting you to take it easy this year.
Sunny today and it has warmed up to 37F so of course I hung out laundry on the drying rack.
Keep smiling ladies!

Did HIIT then went in the pool. I cut my workouts short since it still takes me a while to get around. After the Y went to Food Lion since Vince needed soda. I need to go to the FL by me since that one didn’t have the crab that I wanted (BOGO)
Went for my shot of Prolia. Tomorrow is the dermatologist
Jennifer CT – praying for you not to have the C. Good for you not using food to cope!
Tracey – I’m in awe of the beauty of your cards. What kind of items do they give you to get your mom? Toiletries?
Jess called just as I was leaving for the hosp for my Prolia so she talked to Vince. She’s going to be bringing the animals here. I know Vince isn’t keen on ganon being here, but my heart just wouldn’t let me say “no” to my daughter. Plus, it won’t be for that long
Heather – yea for walking! I’m going stir crazy not being able to walk around the block. Hopefully, pretty soon
As I was about to get in the pool at the Y today, I went to show someone where the foreign object was in my foot, and the pad the podiatrist put on it had come off! He was quite insistent that I take it off after 24 hours so I called his office to see if it was OK since it had been on only 7-10 hours. I have no idea when it came off. They told me just to put the bandaid on it and take it off tonight. Hope this doesn’t hinder it getting better. I really really want to walk down in FL, it’s just so nice.
Went to Sam’s and got pigs in the blanket for me to take to the ceramic Christmas party for Vince in addition to the sausage cheese balls I was going to make. Hmmmm….maybe I won’t make them and just freeze the sausage.
Lisa – lovely afghan. Is that the C2C stitch?
Margaret – those trees are really different. I like them very much
Tere – the landscaper just recently planted the azalea. I usually watered new plants once/day for a week then every other day then a few times a week. Only I’m not doing that because it’s so cold, I’m afraid the water would freeze (like me….lol)
Rebecca – sounds like you had such a wonderful trip plus coming home. So glad the inspection went well
Lanette – when we’re in FL, you look out our backyard and you’re looking at the VAB, so we get to see a lot of launches. The pediatrist did mention something about this cork the you can put around a certain area to cushion it. When I go back in 2 weeks, I’m going to mention it because I DO NOT want this to come back. I want to be able to take walks when we’re in FL
Debbie – I like to sit with just the tree on sipping tea, too. And watching TV (usually Christmas movies)
Bowling tonight. I won’t be bowling, but I’ll go for support.

We have decided to cut our bed down to a queen (bed in trailer is currently a king). This will give us more room on either side to walk and get in. Rv place we bought it from say they do it all the time for someone who would rather have more room. Kirby researched on utube andgot what we needed and he’s gonna do it. We currently have a queen at home with yogi on it and we are fine so we won’t miss it.

It doesn't hurt but its weird colors. Nor is it swollen. Dang train! It was interesting traveling this time because people help you when you're old looking. I mean the bus driver took my bag to put in the undercarriage instead of just pointing where I needed to put it. Then on the train the train staff let me walk up the steps with my carry on, and then handed me my suitcase. When I was looking for a seat a gentleman in his 30's asked if I needed to put it in the overhead luggage rack. He said his Mom would've swatted him, if he didn't help me. So there's that. I must have "old lady" written above my head. Anyways it was nice. The train ticket guy helped me down the steps, and taking my suitcase so I wouldn't have to lug it down the steps. The train steps off and on an Amtrak train are steep, and not very wide. Its really easy to misstep.

As promised, more details about my Thailand adventure. Put in spoiler, so feel free to skip if not interested.I’m back and none the worse for wear after 20 hours of flying and a 12 hour layover in Hong Kong. I used the app Timeshifter to minimize jet lag and even though I couldn’t adhere to the exact times for light, sleep and caffeine, it still worked.
This was my first trip to Asia, and given that I have 4 more continents to go in my quest to visit each continent, there is no telling if/when I will ever get back there. Phuket Thailand has everything I love about a holiday:
1) Delicious fresh food, especially tropical fruits and fish. Best curry!
2) Warm weather, even when raining which happened for 3 of our days there.
3) Friendly people who smile a lot and make every attempt to communicate in English.
4) Beautiful beaches safe for swimming and snorkeling. And the snorkeling was extraordinary. Clear water, tame fish, colorful corals…truly the highlight of the trip for me.
5) Cheap, excellent massage services. I had two 90 minute full body massages for about $8 USD each.
6) Fun, interesting stuff to do.
* We took a cooking class where we made green papaya salad and massaman curry.
* Visited a sanctuary for rescued elephants where we fed them and walked them through the jungle. One of the elephants was 62!
* We had a guided tour of a Chinese temple, a local night market and Old Phuket town. Learned history of the area.
* Visited an isolated beach on a Thai longboat. These are wooden boats with a car motor attached to the back and a long rudder tail trailing behind it. Due to a government ban on harvesting forest timbers, these boats are no longer being built.
* The Phi Phi islands are a paradise. If you watch the next season of the show “White Lotus”, it will feature the island of Koh Samui. Gorrrrrgeous! Also saw the site where the movie The Beach was filmed.
* We saw the “Lady Boys” cabaret show. Brilliant!
My travel companion has very special dietary restrictions and allergies and I was nervous about her accidentally ingesting something that might make her ill, but fortunately, it was all good. At the night market, the food offerings ranged from the very popular chicken satay, to sushi, fruits with chili (yummo. Heather I thought of you), fresh squeezed juices, meats on a stick, coconut pancakes, a jet black gelatin like drink made from a root, and fried insects (no, I wasn’t that brave). I did test out the Fish Spa. Put my feet in a tank of little guppie-like fish who went to work eating the dead skin off them. I’m not normally ticklish, but my friend caught video of me squealing as the fish started their gentle pecking. BTW, the results were excellent. After 15 mins and a whopping $3 USD, my feet were as smooth as what I get from a professional pedicure.
Getting to Thailand from Colorado is arduous but worth it. The Thai massages were part of my self care routine which also included using the gym to stretch and swimming laps in the pools to work off a few calories. Took advantage of the resort’s yoga on the beach a couple of times. On boating excursions, going up and down ladders as the boat rocked back and forth tested my balance and strength. Walking elephants through a humid jungle was exhausting. But I did it! Didn’t embarrass or hurt myself, yay!
So here are a few of my favorite photos. Enjoy.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to show my decluttering project today..I have to warn you that it is a hot mess!!!
Now this is after.
I still need to figure what to do on top of the bookshelf, but I got a lot done. I turned them around like they do on HGTV. How do you know what to read with it turned around?6 -

Rori, glad you had a great experience in Thailand! I met my husbands ship there eons ago, and was at Phuket as well. I did the topless beach thing, but I don't think any of the other Navy wives did that.😂. I had a massage on the edge of the beach by a little old lady. As I laid there, she adjusted my hip, making it pop, some strange dude walking by said, "good one"! She massaged my back with Tiger Balm and a wee bit of sand on her fingers. After lying out in the sun, then getting her massage, my skin literally felt on fire. But you know what? All the other Navy wives were sunburned and peeling, on the trip home, but not me.😁. Great memories!

Terri - I wouldn’t have thought of using my audio to record notes that war
Annie - the men at the home were more interested in the trees than the women yesterday, maybe that’s because they never had to do the work involved to make it pretty. Your Dad may be missing the memories it brings.
Heather - “debobbler” I love that! We call them sweater shavers here. I have one that’s a sheep. Rodger bought it for me for my Christmas stocking a couple years ago. Kaitlyn introduced it to her MIL last year.
Lanette - I smile at people all the time, even people in the car next to me at a stop light. I love smiling at others.
Lisa - pretty afghan. Purple and black are my eldest daughter’s and sister in law’s favourite colours.
I have some days off coming up. I’m looking forward to it.
Margaret - your decorations are pretty and elegant looking.
Rebecca - I’m so happy you had a great visit and weren’t made to feel awkward by your sister.
It’s nice when people show courtesy.
Debbie - nice blow ups.
Michele - my foot is flaring up this week and I’m hoping it settles over the next day or so because I have a busy weekend ahead with lots of movement required.
My Mom loves to colour, read romance books, and do word searches, so that’s what they asked that I send, she also needs a sweater. Toiletries are provided by the home and my Mom has very sensitive skin so I wouldn’t want to mess anything up she’s gotten used to.
I’ll put in an order on Amazon and get it shipped to her.
Rori - looks like a wonderful trip.
Thanks for sharing
Mo - I don’t understand how people are supposed to know what to read either. I have my books based on height and author. I don’t like when they change book cover styles or book sizes.
I finished another card tonight. I’m not 100% pleased with it so will wait before taking a picture.
I had forgotten how much I enjoy making these cards. I have 4 more to do for coworkers. I’m trying hard to personalize each one.
Tomorrow night is ceramics and Friday evening I’ll work on putting things away so that we can decorate on Saturday.
The more I get ready the easier it will be.
We are having homemade pizza for supper on Saturday.
I have a “ringing in my head” that is driving me a little crazy. The call bell system at the home is like a doorbell, a very distinctive two tone ring. I hadn’t noticed it when I first started working as the speaker for it that is near my office was blocked off with construction. That opened up about 3 weeks ago and I hear the sound at home, when I’m out and about and I don’t know what to do about it. It’s not that I even really consciously hear it at work.
If anyone has any suggestions please share.
Well off to bed. 10 minutes early tonight, maybe I can read more that a couple pages before falling asleep.

Good work, Mo! Turning the books around may look more minimalist, but. like you, I wonder how you find anything! Do you actually read them? Could you declutter some more?
I hate to tell you all, but, when I was waiting for the bus on Tuesday, I wandered into the YMCA charity shop. Books, DVDs, CDs, vinyl, were, ...... wait for it ........ 15 for a pound.
My charity bag wasn't taken from my doorstep on Tuesday so I will have to schlep it to the charity shop. I have mugs and a tile to go as well. Weather awful this morning, so it will have to wait.
I felt so stiff all day yesterday, after my marathon on Tuesday. For some reason my right arm, which has lymphodema from breast cancer treatment, decided to come out in sympathy. Then my wrist and thumb were very painful, so I had to take a painkiller. The joys of aging!
Rori - thank you so much for sharing your photos. It looked lovely! You must be pretty fit!
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
Winter is my least favourite time of the year, and this year it seems to have hit with a vengeance. Dull, dark, wet and cold most of November, and no let up since then. The sunrise yesterday was quickly scotched by cold biting rain, and its still raining this morning.
And to top it all, evening TV is filled with repeats. Thank goodness I have my groups to lighten my days. 😂 This afternoon I will go to Shakespeare Study Group.
Later: Just looked out my window, and there is a glimmer of light on the eastern horizon. It seems that there may be a short break in the wet weather this morning. We shall see.

Good Thursday!
So Monday was totally dead at work. Couldn't do my training as issues with website. LOOONG day! Decided to take Christmas cards to work on both Tuesday and Wednesday. We were busy! They will get done sometime hopefully sooner rather than later. This morning I have last load of laundry in dryer, dishwasher emptied, clothes put away, caught up with you all!
Mo Looks good! I think they do that on TV so that people don't see the titles (copyright stuffs)
Rori Thank you for sharing your journey! What an experience!
Terri I hear you on winter! It is just dreary! I started my vitamin D last week after over a week of seeing just grey skies!
Jennifer in CT Hugs and prayers! Waiting is so hard.
Need to finish a few things before I head to work.
Thankful for you all,

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Well I have read some nice books, but otherwise I'm in another slump. Dad wants the house to be decorated and I really don't want to bother. He wants to have an advent wreath with candles but I really don't want him playing with fire. I really need to do laundry and pick up my room. And order some Christmas presents.
I quit taking my antidepressants when I had the diverticulitis a month ago. It was just never convenient to go do it. I really need to do better about that and diet and exercise and all the things. Today my horse lesson is cancelled for cold but my sitter is coming anyway. So maybe she can do some decorating with Dad while I at least get laundry put away. I just need to get a shower before she shows up.
So one thing at a time. I can get something done.

Got my Christmas cards done! ☺️ Stamps on. It's raining so I don't feel like going out, but John needs to go to the Post Office to post some cards for Australia, so he will take them.
It took about 2 hrs, but I was so stiff when I had finished.
Annie - you have my heart felt sympathy. Good idea to get the sitter to help. Could you make a wreath with fake candles. My LED ones are fantastic and very deceiving. The kids thought they were real. I set them to come on at 4.30 for six hours.
I find just one nice thing makes a difference. I have a fabulous fake amaryllis which makes a beautiful red splash, but isn't too Christmassy.
I've had it for about 9 years!
Love to all. Heather UK xxxxxxxx7 -
Rori ~ What a wonderful trip! Thanks for sharing the photos and your adventures.
Michele ~ Did the pad come off because of the pool water? You have had so many problems with that unknown THING on your foot. Hope it heals before your Fla. trip so you can walk comfortably.
Annie ~ As heather said, it will be great if the sitter and your dad can decorate together. It will give them both something to do to pass the time.
Heather ~ Beautiful flowers.
MO ~ Good for you decluttering the shelf. But, I can't imagine having the books shelved with no titles showing. I guess I have never seen that on HGTV.
Here is a photo of my DH's revolving book shelf. Mostly his antique books collection.
Terri ~ I can imagine how you hate the cold damp winter weather. Very depressing.
Carol in Ga who has a stuffed up nose due to the heat!

I read a lot of books on the Kindle app on my phone. I check the books out through Libby and my library. Amazon and Kindle "kindly" suggest other books to me based on what I've been reading and if Libby can supply them, I try them. Another source of suggestion of books comes from podcasts I listen to. I have also received great suggestions from women on this thread and AARP magazine.
Since I get my books either from the library or from Paperbackswap.com. I don't have a lot of books to store or display which makes things better on my bookshelves. I have some special books that I plan to reread, but otherwise I don't keep them.
Annie, I think someone else already suggested it, but I looked on Amazon and found that there are Advent wreaths with battery powered candles that look nice like the real ones but much safer.
My mother was able to live at home during the last year of her life thanks to a live in caregiver. The caregiver was of a religion that didn't celebrate holidays, yet the woman happily decorated a Christmas tree for my mother,
A book that I am currently reading is "The Department of Rare Books and Special Collections" by Eve Jurczyk. It is a mystery set in a University library filled with rare and obscure books.
I finally got the last of the stems of the giant sunflowers into the garbage can. They were a lot to clean up but a joy to have in the summer.

Morning, kidlings,
Rori - Always good to see your smiling face! Sounds like you had a lovely time. Love living vicariously through your travels, while not wanting to go in any way... so glad that it makes you so happy!
Heather - I did that too, just the one thing for Christmas color. Aldi here has $4 poinsettias, huge things, that I can put outside in the spring to grow the rest of the year. We're interested to find out whether last year's plant (which got up to four feet tall!) will last through the winter - it's already lost its leaves, so perhaps not. This is this year's $4 indulgence:
I only do Christmas if the grands are here... and then in as minimal a fashion as possible.
Annie - I wish I had advice for you, but anything I can think of would seem very false and Hallmark channel-esque. Like "If you put Christmas in your house, then you'll find it in your heart!" kind of thing. We don't celebrate it, I just like poinsettias. Hope you find a way to span the gap between what you want and what your dad is requesting.
Mo - My opinion only, but I think the fad for turning books around is much like people wearing their underwear on the outside. Some kind of silly business that gets people talking. Plus, only people who don't read would turn their books backward and keep them that way. This is my living room, once we got the furniture moved around to use the full length, and some of the books can be seen at bottom right, in the cabinet. Second pic is the inside. The other side is loaded, too. Moved a whole bookshelf in there.
Supposed to hover just a few degrees above freezing all day today and tomorrow, with the wind whipping out of the north. Corey, bless him, got the fire going in the fireplace before he left, and I'm keeping it going to keep the heater from going on all the time... and yet Egg's in here in my workroom with me. Guess she does love me more than staying warm in front of the fire! Awww... 😽😹
Left my flextape off my knees for the last 48 hours to give my skin time to recover a bit from the adhesive, as I keep them on 24-7 for weeks on end. My right knee is just a big wobbly, hurty mess... Ah well. I'll see my primary doc on the 23rd, and get a referral for an orthopod going... Need them to look at both knees, my right foot and ankle, and now my right shoulder, which is hanging up and hurting like stink every time I try to lift my hand above my head on that side. Oh, and shin splints on the left leg, as well. Lord, I'm falling apart.
But for now, a long, hot shower to get the warmth down to my bones, and get some kinetic tape back on after so I can at least move around the house reasonably comfortably. Egg always comes in while I'm drying off and wants a "shower," where I wipe her fur down with my wet hands. Then she saunters off and dries that little coating of water off with her own tongue. I think she may think my tongue is disabled, so this is as close as I can get to grooming her. Funny cat.
Later, babies,
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Vicki - oops, almost forgot to mention. Very nice photo of you, DIL and granddaughters. A great time to be together with these gals and share some fellowship. The girls will treasure memories of being with you.
Margaret - it's almost uncanny - you and I eat similarly, follow the same lower-carb, no (or little) sugar/processed food regimen, are pretty close to the same height - 5'8", right? And have almost naturally settled into the same weight and have easily stayed there. I'm happy I no longer have to count calories or WW points to maintain. Do you recall what you weighed in high school? And what your highest weight was? Your lowest? Were you a chronic dieter like I was?
Mo - good job on decluttering that bookcase. I have one that looks similar to your "before" photo, and there are already a few books in it where the spine is turned inward like your "after" photo - not on purpose, just because I was in a hurry and jammed them back in that way.
Annie - terrific idea having the care giver help Dad decorate. Maybe she can help steer him clear of wanting to light actual burning candles.
Rori - thank you for the travelogue. Awesome photos and loved hearing about the highlights of your trip. When I read that article Heather linked about living apart, I instantly thought of your relationship with N and how he has brought so much joy to your life. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of you where you aren't smiling.
Heather - I've decided to get myself a debobbler for Christmas. My favorite lined zip hoodie, which I wear all the time in the house, is polyester that pills terribly. I'm the only one who sees it but it drives me crazy and picks up lint.
Lisa - love that fireplace, that room looks so cozy.
Terri - I'm with you on winter as my least favorite time of the year, especially now when it's hard to get good walking time in outside. I'm done with walking in the cold and wet, especially after I've discovered I can get plenty of steps in by walking inside my house without my hands aching from the cold. No fog yesterday, just bright sunshine and I made more headway on Christmas cards. Just a few left to do now for neighbors. I still aim to get a few minutes of early morning sunshine (even when it's overcast) outside. Letting the hens out of the coop at sunrise and tending to them helps keep me on track.
Tracey - very interesting about that ringing sound you hear. Does it interfere with your hearing? I have tinnitus in my left ear that sometimes sounds like an engine running, over time I've learned to ignore it for the most part. The hearing aid for that ear, when I wear it, kind of cancels out that noise.
Beautiful pink sunrise right now. Clear sky. Temperature just hovering at freezing, so not bad. Need to head out and do a bit of shopping then meet my former walking partner, D, for an early lunch and see what's new in her world.

@Rori, if you like the fish/foot thing, you need to come to Bottomless Lakes! (A lot closer than Thailand!) We have little fish in our salt-water lake that do the foot thing for free! It does tickle and when a fish a little bigger does it, surprises you! None of it hurts, but is fun. As long as you stand still, the fish will come and ‘eat’ your dead skin! Kids especially giggle hilariously when the fish do this to them! 😂
@ Mo, why did you put the books backwards? You can’t read what you have that way? Then I saw that you turned them back with the spine out. Ok, worries gone! LOL 🤪
My back is beginning to feel a whole lot better, much less pain. I did the exercises PT gave me Monday for my back and thought I would be sore today. I actually feel a little better! I will scan those and post in another post later for anyone who may want to try them.
I agree with using an Advent wreath with ‘fake’ candles. Satisfies both of you! We live in a very small camper so decorating is minimal. I put something in between my screen door and main door for the season welcoming people. For Thanksgiving, I put a ‘Leaf garland’ and leaf wreath on the front of the RV with some removable windows stickers. This year my DH liked the leaves, so I simply put a white garland mixed with the leaves and took off the wreath to replace with a white and silver bow. I put some Christmas cling-ons on the front window too. Inside I have one garland that is silver and gold swooped over the top of the table, a line with tiny clothespins beneath that for cards and notes, and a couple of ornaments on that. I have the little tree I showed you all earlier on the table, which goes outside for the daylight (it’s a live tree and no room on the table). A couple of years ago we found a motorized snow-globe-type manger scene, and that is below our alien head. If you don’t look at the mess, I’ll post a pick of the inside. Remember, DH is a hoarder, and I HATE it! I’ll get a pic of the front later today. We can’t put anything that even remotely looks like a specific holiday outside. Aliens, however, are acceptable. LOL

Lanette I was close to 5 8 in High School. My weight in HS was 155-160. Lowest I was in Jr. high was 125 highest I have been is 200. I never went on extreme diets. I do think this way of eating is how I will eat the rest of my life. I have been doing this for a year now and health wise feel better and mood much more even. I go back more quickly to that even mood when I am facing a challenge. Keep up what you are doing too! Not too many eat this way so it nice to find someone who believes this is a healthy diet and sees the results!
