    Hello

Serial starter here. I usually am hovering around 214 pounds but had some upsetting news about a health condition and ate my worries and today am 225 :(

You would think ( well at least a normal thinking person would) that the health info would be the motivation to get myself in the best shape I can in order to get ready for the future so that I will be in good shape to fight the illness, but instead Im eating whatever I want, not sleeping well and not moving off the couch much. I am too much in my head.

My goal for December is to get back to my usual 214-216 weight and to be more health conscious and stop the unhealthy behaviors.

    SW: 225
    CW: 225
    GW: 170

I know WHAT to do, I just have to DO it.
So here is to December.🥂 ( Minus the alcohol, of course).

Hi. I am 51 yo whose tried to lose weight my whole adult life. I broke my foot in February and couldn't work out without pain until September. I ate my worries and gained weight.

I'm doing aerobics and running and mfp. I'm hoping to lose 8 lbs this month.

Hi all! Thought I'd pop in, although my weigh-in day is not for 3 days. I am trying to achieve a 5-pound weight loss this month. That will bring me to 175, the lowest I've been since 2023. This time, however, I'm going to keep on going and not yo-yo, in spite of the holiday season. December is the toughest month temptation-wise, but I can get through it. Last night I had a big craving for a slice of my pumpkin pie but I had an apple instead...........

Since I joined MFP back in March, I've lost twenty pounds! I've gone from 1X shirts to XL and my size 18 pants are getting quite loose on me. Probably ready to switch down to 16s.

I don't make a huge deal about the holidays; I didn't celebrate Christmas growing up and most of my family is on the East Coast in any case. There are a couple of holiday potlucks coming up at work and I'm baking cookies. Needless to say, none will be lingering around the house, too much temptation. Christmas hubs and I make turkey again and I make a pie, usually apple. We go visit his brother who doesn't live too far away. Oh, and we always watch Christmas Vacation, my favorite Christmas movie!

    ❄️ December GW Average: 172

    💙 December SW 12/1: 177 (average)

    yesterday:
    ❌1st / 4 workouts per week
    ❌> 8k steps
    ❌<= 1600 cal
    ✅32 minute self care
    ❌> 64oz water
    ❌>= 128g protein

It's time to finish out THE PLAN! 30 days to NYE! Let's GOOOOOOO

I was shooting for 176 average for the end of November, ended up at 177 because I gave up for the last almost week, didn't even log, lol.

Today is going well! I'm under calories for the day even with my advent calendar pour of wine, lol. I credit that to my secret weapon: shrimp for lunchhhhh it's shrimp! for lunch! lol.

All of my meals are planned out for the week and logged in MacroFactor, so we are turning this around! We are going for 172! It's going to be tough to pull off, but we're going to get as close as possible.

I bought more protein powder on sale at GNC's site today, trying some new ones, can't wait to see how they go with coffee (I drink my cold brew with a scoop of protein powder every morning for an easy protein boost). I bought a marshmallow, pecan caramel cinnabon (!), peanut butter cereal milk, and little debbie's christmas tree (!) flavor! They were bogo 50%, and since I needed more anyway, I went ham, haha. I also bought some more hot and spicy protein chips bogo 50%, since I love those.

    Tag party time!
@strengthenKae welcome! I love hobbies as replacement for snacking! What are some of your hobbies?

@rorymason welcome! Best wishes to you in your health concerns! I totally get eating your worries, most of the time that is my reaction too, so don't beat yourself up too much. You're here now!

@reginakarlcatz welcome! I'm glad you're feeling better now, even if it means working,

@lisakatz2 you're doing so well! I'm looking forward to seeing you hit your goal! :star:

    Have a great MONTH, everyone!

    Good morning everyone!

Weighed in at 177 exactly this morning, so while that is exactly my average, we are on the way back down.

Food is packed for work today, gonna get all my water in, nice walk at lunch, my high protein sushi bake for dinner, and then gym (poles and then a choreographed dance)! Somewhere in there I need to pick up my new glasses and the license plates for my car! Busy day!

I'm taking recommendations for APMA walking shoes, if anyone has any! I'm currently wearing Hoka Clifton 9s, and they're great, but Hoka's not really having a sale, so if you know of any good shoes on sale, let me know!

    Have a great day, everyone!

    8/1: 254.8.
    10/29: 248
    12/2/2024 252 post trip weight
Weight loss since retiring almost 13 lbs.

    December Goals:
    • 30 minutes of exercise 6 days a week. Have longer walks until I can walk around Greenlake
    • December GW: Get into the mid to lower half of the 240s -
    • Keep my water intake up
    • Keep getting 7-8 hours of sleep
    • Meal plan and cook 3+ dinners

❄️How do you plan to celebrate the holidays and are there any strategies you will be putting in place to help you through?
We will be home and will have some get togethers with family. We also have My husbands birthday and our anniversary this month to celebrate.

❄️Don't forget to pat yourself on the back for committing to yourself this year. Whether you've kept it going since January or just started up in the last few months, well done either way!
I really restarted my efforts when I retired the beginning of the summer. I made progress until this past month. I think my weight will come back down to 248 soon since it was only the last couple of days we ate food out that tends to up my weight.

I am just back from visiting my son’s family with my little grandson. Right before I left I had some eye issues and had to take it easy for a while but I feel I can get back to exercising more now. We plan a walk today and I want to go to Aquafit this week. I have today’s dinner planned and tomorrow will plan for the rest of the week. I will also unpack today. I just went to the doctor today about my blood pressure which I was worried was going up. We decided to monitor it for 2 weeks to see where it is. I am going to put blood pressure on my spreadsheet where I log my daily weight, calorie intake and exercise.
So although exercise and upping my exercise will be the main focus I want to get back into the 240s and stay well within them with making healthy meals.

I will be posting more often (most week days) and doing check ins when I have progress to report weight wise. I read all of your posts.

My goal for December is to lose 6 lbs. Which will put me in Onderland for the first time in over 9 years. My strategy for the holidays is to think before I put something on my plate and to keep my portions small. I will still focus on my protein as well. I also need to get back on track with my activity and steps. To be honest, I watched too much TV this past weekend.

Let's finish 2024 stronger and lighter then when we started the year!

    Good morning everyone!

Weighed in at 175 this morning, continuing back down, thank goodness.

Gym was good last night, although they had a couple of chocolates at the front desk and I partook, lol.

    yesterday:
    ✅1st / 4 workouts per week
    ✅> 8k steps
    ❌<= 1600 cal
    ✅32 minute self care
    ✅> 64oz water
    ✅>= 128g protein

Today! N had diarrhea yesterday, so she's not allowed to go back to school today. I have lots of things still on my to do list around the house after being gone over the holidays, so I'm fine with that. It's just sick leave, I'll live.

That being said! I've had my protein coffee (still finishing up my pescience cookies and cream before my new ones come), going to fill up my favorite tumbler with water and get the day going! Tonight is meatballs from @ fitnfineewithpenelope on tiktok.

    v28u5hn68z5e.png

I also made up my spreadsheet for next year, the first 100 days, before I go on my first cruise! The closer I get to 172 at the end of this year, the easier it will be to meet my goal before cruise time. And yes, it's lofty, but shooters shoot.

    @keria :star: spreadsheet gang :star:

@jenbroussard71 you can do it! Especially if you stay focused.

    Have a great day, everyone!

Happy December! I'm getting a late start. I had lots of fun company over the weekend and took yesterday off to recover! It was not good foodwise and I gained a few pounds but that should go away this week and I will start working my way back down. All but my Texas kids/grands come for the holidays and we have a ridiculous amount of food. Everyone says they're bringing one thing but that turns into two or three things so we have more than the table can hold. And more leftovers than I care to think about!

Today's weight: 236.3 (that was a shocker but understandable after all I ate Sat-Mon.)
    December goal: 228

I made a chart to keep track of progress on weight, BMI, and body fat percentage.

    Working on:
    1. Posture exercises 6/7 days
    2. Stretch/Mobility 5/7 days
    3. Weights 2/7 days
    4. Sleep - be in bed before midnight 5/7 days
    5. active hours 8/12 hours 6/7 days

For my mental health I will be organizing my photos, working on creative projects, trying to get my life together aka organizing my home. I'll make a chart to help me stay on top of those things.

@lisakatz2 You're doing a great job! I think what your doctor meant was that he wants the best for you and that means to keep doing what you've been doing. Most patients don't even get started or quit after things get hard. My doctor told me she just prescribes medicine because people don't follow through on what they say they'll do to try to improve their health without it. That was annoying!! And infuriating. I really need a new doctor but haven't gotten around to making the change. I would say don't read too much into your doctor's comment.

    12/3: 251.2 coming back down

Didn't have a walk but unpacked, and made a yummy healthy dinner yesterday. Got a good night sleep last night.

@jenbroussard71 Onderland is so near. I need to focus on protein too.

@CupcakeCrusoe I actually lost weight when I went on our cruise. We walked around the boat in the morning and swam in the pool in the afternoon. I like that you set up next years spreadsheet.

@lisakatz2 My daughter's doctor said the same thing to her and she felt the same way you did. I think when we lose a significant weight it is good to take a rest from a deficit and let your body get used to your new weight. Then losing the next weight is easier and healthier. Congrats on your progress.

@nebslip I need to make a chart of things I need to do too. I have been focusing on my health but I need to start working on some projects soon. I like your exercise schedule. I want to 1st get my stamina up then set up something similar.

Weight loss since retiring almost 14.6 lbs.

    December Goals:
    • 30 minutes of exercise 6 days a week. Have longer walks until I can walk around Greenlake
    • December GW: Get into the mid to lower half of the 240s -
    • Keep my water intake up

When I had my eye issues and the Doctor said to not do anything strenuous and when I told her I had done aquafit the day before she said oh don’t do that. I decided I had to take a break from my primary focus of exercising and make it losing weight again. The problem with that was that I was about to go on a trip with no scale. I usually weigh everyday. But I really didn’t eat that much on my trip or even at Thanksgiving dinner but the 3 days after we went to Dim Sum and after we flew home we went out to dinner because we had to wait for N’s flight at 10. So I wasn’t surprised when I weighed over 250 yesterday. I am not surprised that after eating normally at home for 2 days I have lost weight. However I expected to be down at my last low not to have made progress. Yay! I want to get down to the mid 240s by Christmas and after Christmas maybe lose some more. We have a birthday and an anniversary to celebrate too. But actually I think a big calorie day spread thinly through lower calorie days actually help from your body fighting you by lowering your metabolism. You need to keep your body guessing.
So 2 days of eating my normal healthy meals at a deficit has done their job faster than I would think.

But now I need to refocus again to walking longer each day. I also have PT exercises to do for my left shoulder. I want to add in some exercises to keep strong.

I will continue to make healthy meals at home at a deficit except for my husbands birthday on the 8th.

    Good morning everyone!

Weighed in in the 175's, pulling the average down a little.
    yesterday:
❌3rd / 4 workouts per week. but nothing was planned.
❌> 8k steps (my walk at lunch only gave me 7k at the end of the day)
❌<= 1600 cal (honestly just hungrier - ended at 1717.)
    ✅32 minute self care
    ✅> 64oz water
    ✅>= 128g protein

So you can see why my weight loss is slowing! I'm not doing everything to a T like I used to do. I've gotta tighten up if I want to make good progress this month and set myself up for success next year.

What is causing me to fail right now? If I look at how I've been doing, I get super hungry mid-morning after breakfast, but it might not really be hunger, it might be that I'm bored at work. Will look at that very closely today. Same in the afternoon, really. Work is the danger zone right now, because my job is solely at my desk, and it is kind of boring! I need to find a way to distract myself with work even when the work isn't too engrossing.

Tonight! I'm going to the gym (splits class!), and I'm taking my daughter to gymnastics before that, so it's another harris teeter dinner for me, which is just fine- shimp for dinner means I have more calories to do that mid-morning snack if I need to at work. Just have to make sure that snack is not all junk, that it has redeeming qualities to keep me full or to contribute to my nutrition.

    Tag party time!
@lisakatz2 It is super frustrating when some doctors look at progress and say "but more tho." I had a doctor like that, and I tried very hard not to take it personally. My doctor now doesn't mention weight hardly at all, probably because she's a heavier lady herself, and I'm not sure which I prefer. At least I got a high five for weight loss from the "but more tho" doctor. It's a mixed bag! The ones that care about weight loss also want to see you at your healthiest weight, and threading that needle of encouragement and expecting more is hard!

@nebslp I am so glad you had a good time with family. I'm also glad I didn't host this year, so our leftovers were minimal, haha. I've started sweeping my front porch more often because of you! It is very satisfying, and I'm making it a habit.

@KeriA look at you go! I agree, sometimes you indulge a little, and then when you get back to weight loss you get a whoosh! Best of both!

    Have a great day, everyone!

Realized I didnt put actual goals in December other than a weight goal.

    So December goals:
*Get in some walking at least 5 days a week. (Have not even started yet)
    *Clean eating
    *Track what I am eating
*Self care. (Whats that, lol. I need to do that. Have not focused on that most of my life which is likely part of the problem).
    *Increase water intake
*Getting better sleep ( waiting on some test results snd hopefully this will improve once I get them).

Weigh-in day today! Drum roll please..........178! One and a half pounds down. A little fast, but I'll keep my eye on the scale to make sure I consistently don't go beyond one pound a week.

If I lose a pound a week, I'll be 175 by Xmas day!

Weight loss since retiring almost 16 lbs.

4 more lbs to get to what I lost during the pandemic.
20 more to get to what I lost during the economic downturn
Since I won't be going back to work this time I can continue down to onderland. I always gained weight when I worked fulltime.

With birthday, anniversary and Christmas coming up I am going to try and lose what I can between. Last night after dinner I felt a little hungry and I knew my calories were low so I had a small bowl of home roasted unsalted peanuts and Chukar cherry medley. I want to do this in a sustainable manner. My focus is on eating healthy meals and exercise for health. But I know that losing weight is important for me to be healthy too. However I am going back to making exercise the primary focus again. I had a long walk yesterday and hope to have a walk today. Maybe aquafit at the Y tomorrow.

@CupcakeCrusoe I decided that although December has some weight loss distractions it also has some weeks that were good to concentrate on losing. That way I had a better attitude going into this month than I usually do. You can finish this year strong. I think that will be my motto for the month. That is what I told my kids when they needed a little encouragement to keep going on something.

@rorymason I identify with your goals. I finally walked yesterday. Some oth them I am doing better with than others.

@lisakatz2 like that progress and Christmas goal. I lost .8 pounds yesterday and 1.4 pounds today but then I was temporarily above my last low so I knew those lbs would come off easy. However I am 2 pounds below my lowest weight now but that is after a few weeks so it averages out. I seem to lose a lot on a few days and lower on other weeks so it averages out.

I got on reports and found out that after the pandemic and before going to work again full time my weight was 245. So I have only 1 pound to reach my 1st goal. After that I want to reach. 220 which is what I weighed after the economic downturn when I was out of work and concentrated on losing before going to work full-time. Then Onderland.

Honestly I was starving all day yesterday, so I ended up eating more at home after dinner than I'd planned on. Shark week has come early, and I don't know if that's part of it or not. But, as usual, I've got to get it together. At least average is going down again.

Yesterday night in a bid to stop snacking, I did paint my nails a lovely shiny grapey maroon color, and I'd forgotten how effective painting my nails is on snacking- I always mess up my nails in the time immediately after, so I try not to do anything with my hands. Which includes snacks! All my topcoats are a gluey or too-dry disaster though, so I should get another topcoat while I'm out and about today. Goodness knows I've got enough nail polish.

Today! My baby is unfortunately throwing up quite a bit, everyone cross your fingers it ends soon and is not super contagious, please.

Going to see Wicked with my sister for her birthday, then I've got to grocery shop, which means I need to make the meal plan... like right now, lol. She wants to see the earliest morning matinee, which I think is brilliant.

After that, finally relaxing at home, which I feel like I didn't get to do hardly at all this week. Probably play magic the gathering with my husband, hopefully make room for my advent wine today. I'd been skipping it all week because I wanted food for calories, not wine. We'll see.

    Tag party time:
@rorymason the water intake really does make a bigger difference than you'd think! Speaking of, I need to fill up my water bottle...

@lisakatz2 look at you go! you're doing amazing, well done.

@KeriA honestly a bowl of cherries and peanuts sounds amazing. Like a PBJ, but better because crunchier. As to your being 1 lb away from your goal- let's goOOOOOOO haha

@quolwy 17 lb in 12 weeks is not outside the realm of possibility! I'm excited to see your progress!

    Have a great day, everyone!

    Good Morning

Another 3 am awakening but thankfully was able to fall back to sleep for a bit. Ill take it.

The good: I lost weight. I logged. I made healthier choices.
The bad: Didnt walk or drink water :(

    SW:225
    12/7 weight: 220.3
Weight loss so far this month: 4.7 pounds
    GW: 175

Went back and looked at my weight loss patterns on MFP since 2021 and found I have been doing the same dance between 212-225 for years.

Not trying to be so negative but my head is still not in a great place. Have a stressful week coming up. Hopefully I will feel better once I get through that. Working on it.

BTW: I once lost 42 pounds on MFP many years ago. My doc seemed pleased but then said " You are a work in progress" and that pissed me off, lol. So I understand.

I feel like 95% of this is mental which is why I am trying to get into the frame of mind i need to be in to be successful.

@CupcakeCrusoe: I will def work on the water intake. I hope your little feels better soon.

Hope you all have a great week!

    Hi rorymason!

I woke up at 3 am too, left hip hurting. Need to do more stretching exercises and probably some banded workouts for hip strength. When will I learn?

Kudos for you for making healthier choices, keeping a food diary, and losing weight. The other habits will come. Start out small, like 8 ounces of water and a 10-minute walk. You can build on that.
Walking can help you with the stress too.

Thursday, I went over the edge a bit. Came home from work and hubs had made spaghetti and meatballs and Texas garlic toast. A carb heavy meal, the kind of which I never eat. Of course, I had to have it all,
and even topped it off with a slice of my homemade pumpkin pie, still in the fridge from Thanksgiving.
My portions were reasonable, but it still pushed me close to 2,000 calories that day. That being said, I probably won't lose any weight this week, but I'm a week ahead of schedule for my goal anyway. Still logging, still walking, and went right back to my usual eating habits.

    Good morning everyone!

Weighed in just under the average, not enough to pull it down.

Ugh, lol, it's true, getting a copper IUD really does make your periods worse. Still glad I did it! But I did go off the rails yesterday, so today it's time to set myself up for success this week, meal prepping and cleaning, and doing what active relaxation I can.

    yesterday:
    ❌ 1st / 4 workouts per week
    ✅> 8k steps
    ❌<= 1600 cal
    ✅32 minute self care
    ❌> 64oz water
    ✅>= 128g protein

Look at that christmas color scheme, lol.

I'm going to check in here a lot today, and keep a running tally of stuff that Gets Done. N threw up again last night, Whatsisface gave her milk, and it was too early for that. Before I got out of bed this morning (too early) I ordered some pedialyte and apple juice and soup. We're all taking sick protocols today, lots of soup in our futures.

    So! Today!
    • lots of laundry, got to clean all these sheets
    • put away the laundry for heaven's sake, before the mountain overwhelms the bedroom (I kid, but I won't be kidding by the end of today)
    • dishes all accomplished
    • kids' backpacks gone through
    • various ephemera put away in:
    • the front room
    • the dining room
    • the living room
    • the kitchen
    • the playroom
    • the bedrooms
    • Go through my knitting supplies relocated to the breakfast nook and make it neater back there
    • put together christmas packages to friends and send them already
    • make a list of christmas cards yet to send, had to order more yesterday
    • make a chicken
    • make chicken noodle soup, leave off the noodles for myself
    • clean up toys after bathtime so they're not sitting in the bottom of my tub until Tuesday
    • get at least 8k steps, even if that means walking in circles around my front room or doing one of these videos (I checked, they do give the number of steps he says)
    • do my volunteer work for today

I'll probably add stuff I find I had to do as I go, but I did do one thing already before I finished the list:
✅ put away cookies I made and that were cooling last night

@rorymason I know the struggle of losing and gaining the same weight. I've been doing it for years. But if your lose-gain is in a small window, that just means you've been effectively maintaining around that weight for some time. Now it's just time to move the needle downward a little

@lisakatz2 this is a hard time of year to be losing weight, for sure. But you're back on the horse now!

See you later with an update, everyone!

✅ sourced boxes* for said christmas packages
✅ have been eating 1 meatball every time I want to snack on christmas cookies. working remarkably well. Meatball count: 3️⃣

*random boxes I found around the house that needed recycling, two birds, one stone, etc

    An update? In THIS economy?
✅ lots of laundry, got to clean all these sheets
    • put away the laundry for heaven's sake, before the mountain overwhelms the bedroom (I kid, but I won't be kidding by the end of today)
    • ...... calling it, laundry left in the dryer doesn't count.

    • ......need ziplocks, turns out

    Also!
✅ cleaned out the Junk Basket™ from beside the front door of all junk that does not absolutely have* to be there!

*no, what's left does not all have to be there, but I do not yet have a place for it.

I'm really happy with everything I got done today. I worked really hard and I got most of it done! Assuming N feels better tomorrow, I'll be going to work, and I feel (almost!) ready to do it, lol.

    Good morning everyone!

N is still sick, so I'm at home with her again today. Poor thing, I'm going to call the doctor when they open. My weight is up, but whatever. I didn't log precisely yesterday, so it could be the christmas cookies I did eat were more than I thought. Or shark week. Going to log precisely today, got nothing better to do.

Cancelled on the gym tonight  because I'm not about to leave Whatsisface with all this by himself. So I'll have to get my steps and do splits training on my own.

Things to do today (no updates today, lol, just things I need to think about).
    • call the doc
    • start the playroom toy purge
    • match all possible socks
    • finish the laundry
    • consider a home for all my books that's not the front room
    • do my volunteer work
    • sweep the porch, a la @nebslp
    • splits training
    • walking
    • give the cat his flea and tick meds
    • get most toys out of the living room
    • buy remaining christmas presents I haven't yet
    • package cookies and prep to send

It's funny, our neighbor is also doing illuminated deer for his holiday decorations in his front yard, but I think our deer are better. Regardless, it's a holiday forest back here in our cul-de-sac of which our house is the middle, I love that.

Time to go fill up my tumbler and get today going. Cross your fingers that this is the last day N's dealing with this, I hate having to have sick kids, the worst feeling.

    Have a great day, everyone!

    Good Morning!
I’m not new to MFP but I am to the group. My highest weight was 230lbs in 2017. I started my journey at the end of 2018 and with a lot of hard work and patience I was able to reach 168lbs in 2020 with an UGW of 140!
Then Covid happened, and life, and losses and here I am back at 219 :(

I’m hoping being part of a group will help keep me motivated with tracking my calories and weigh ins (which I don’t do much these days because it’s painful to see all that gain again).

I hope everyones December is going well and you’re all staying strong 💪🏼

Welcome to the group! We are a friendly bunch, and I think you will like it here.

I am very familiar with yo-yoing myself. I've done it my entire adult life, but this time around I'm determined to lose and maintain.

I think you will find posting here fun and motivating.
