Thank you all for all the help and resourceful voices
No,my son has always taken the easy way out.. he lived with my dad and in his house after he passed the only way we got him out is to turn off the internet.
There is no way in Connecticut he could afford a normal rent they are astronomical here..
He works part time at a grocery store has state insurance. And is not what you say a go getter.
My brother has had his share of troubles.. he is a recovering alcoholic..his wife is a raging one who is a control freak and a bully that is in charge of all money that is in the household..Sean hasn't worked a job in about 20 yrs because when he ended up with Jean he took care of 3 homes and her aging parents while she still worked.. her dad passed away.her mom has end stage alzhimers and he watches her 1 day a week .he got pinched for DWI in .N.H. So hence the court date,has no license and all the vehicles are registered in Jeans name.
So ,He is between a rock and a hard place..he has lost sight in his right eye because of detached retina that cannot be fixed
So he is trying to get disability for that.
So yup..my hands are full with the whole family..thats why I hole up here on the weekends and stay to myself.7 -
Allie ~ Please excuse my early post about your brother. I thought it was your brother that wanted to move in with you and didn't realize it was your son! Anyway, continue to think about the advice some of the other ladies have given. Lisa was so right when she reminded us that helping others is what makes you happy.

My friend here asked me once how its fun eating like a treat by myself when I was telling her about my peppermint ice cream and peppermint vodka. I struck me as odd, because I have never felt like "oh I should be sharing this with someone to actually have fun with this". I am perfectly content by myself and wouldn't even think about dragging my husband into it, in order to have fun. Maybe its the military wife in me, but I found it an interesting thing.

Lights are one of my favorite parts too. I remember driving around town to check out all the lights on Christmas eve. Was my favorite thing- found out many years later that we did that so one parent could stay home and get the last of the gifts wrapped one year and we loved it so much, we just did it every year. I still like to drive around and look at the lights and I have stopped a few times to really take it all in when I come across a well lit home.
I have more decorations to put out up front and hopefully a little more inside- haven't done much in here. Need to bring the stuff in off the deck between storms.

Heather – the cups are gorgeous
Did a load of laundry and then Jillian Michaels Total Body Transformation DVD then rode the exercise bike. How I miss going on my walks! I did consult Dr. Google last night and he said to use Aleve on my heel and to ice it. Can’t hurt, that’s for sure. So as I type this, I’m icing my heel
Allie – you know, in previous years around this time of year the parking lot at WalMart would be packed. I went there the other day and it wasn’t packed at all. I guess more and more people are shopping online. One thing I don’t care for is that the stores aren’t keeping much inventory at all. They’re actually promoting shopping online by doing this. At JCPenney if you order something online, you can’t get a gift receipt. You have to return it and buy the new item.
I really wish people would only get what is on my Christmas list. Then it would be something that I need, will use and always think of them. So many times when I get other things that people think I’ll like but I really don’t, I wind up either regifting them or donating them.
Shredded the cheese for the macaroni and cheese that I need to make for tomorrow for our bowling party. Was told that the train club was having their Christmas dinner today but we never got word about it. Maybe they canceled? Well, no big loss. Got dinner ready, will just have soup and have a pizza to make for Vince.
Tracey – I don’t think I would be hurt if Vince suggested getting take out. I would be selective about what I ordered. We so very seldom go out to eat, we go out mainly when we’re traveling.
Terri – lovely flower arrangement. Did you do that too?
Kylia – tell me more about those stickies to keep cats from knocking down things. I’m interested.
Well, iced my foot long enough for now so I’ll go start making a chocolate dessert to take to jess (she likes it). I’ll just put it in the freezer and put the topping on, maybe even at her house.

Allie – I bet you’ll say “yes” because that is you. I know you can’t say “no” to your children. I don’t think I could, either. But do you have room???? And doesn’t he have other things like kitchen appliances, etc. linens…… where do you store them? He’ll need a storage unit would be my guess. I agree 100% with Lisa!!! Couldn’t have said it better myself. She’s right, take care of yourself. That’s an order. We don’t want to see you in the hospital
Rori – I saw a cat advent calendar in Aldi but you had to have started it before I would have bought it
Rosemarie – your talking about the Back Bay and the Commons sure brought back a lot of memories. I went to Bryant and Stratton on Boyleston (it’s no longer there) and Vince went to MIT. His fraternity was in the Back Bay area.
Tracey – congrats on the windfall at your show! Yummy looking gingerbread houses
Started the chocolate dessert for Jess. Now the crust has to cool completely. Also made coleslaw for us to have later in the week. Cabbage at 59 cents/lb you bet we’re going to be having coleslaw….lol After here I want to look at the Christmas gifts I have and see what we need. Also want to put things in boxes so I can start wrapping.
Well, better go start on organizing the gifts.
Oh, we went to the TSO concert last night and Lynette drove. Not quite sure why, but 4 times she mentioned Vince driving. He finally said that he wasn’t comfortable driving someone else’s car. The real reason was that he doesn’t like to drive in Charlotte, especially at night. Jess called the day before and said that she and Colby would be driving themselves to Charlotte because she had to be at the animal shelter the next day. But the real reason is that they’re uncomfortable with Lynette driving.
After the concert we went out to dinner. Vince and Jess both told the waitress to give us three checks (one for Lynette and Ken, one for Jess and Colby, and one for Vince and me). The waitress came and gave Lynette all three checks! She asked the waitress to do that. I don’t know why, but that really annoyed me. I don’t think she was happy about driving. She left the concert to “get the car and pick us up” (without telling anyone she was going to do this). After a while, Ken finally called her to ask her where she was. The line to get out of the parking garage was astronomical. Vince went downstairs, paid for the parking, went back upstairs, and she’d moved about 10 feet. At the restaurant she went outside and no one knew where she was. That I can handle, but for some reason it is just bothering me that she had to pay for everyone. I don’t know why I feel that way.
Why she drove home the way she did, I have no idea. I wouldn’t have done that, but I wasn’t driving. Vince commented to me (after she’d left) that she kept going off the road. Oh well… we shall see what happens next year. I’m guessing that hopefully they’ll be playing in Greensboro (while a bit further away is a much easier drive) or he might drive but park outside the city and take the rail line (train) into the city. I’m not sure how they’ll feel, or I should say how Lynette will feel about this.

We are finally having what passes for winter weather here. The brown pelicans leave and the white pelicans arrive. The Herring gulls move on and the Laughing gulls show up. It is 75 deg F and cloudy. I’m originally from Michigan and I live for these cooler days! Our island is part National Seashore and bird and sea turtle sanctuary and I found that the bird migrations are the surest sign of winter.
Yesterday I finally found the energy to sketch out a week’s meal plan AND cooked everything ahead of time. Now I have 7 days of meals in little prepared boxes going in to the week. I’m excited to see how this goes!
We still have our 18-year-old living with us. He has been out of high school for two years and working full time since then. In many ways he is much “younger” and we’re still working through mastering life skills. Last week we told him what to do and sent him by himself to buy new glasses. He did text me photos of his choices, but came home very proud of himself that he’d done it.
We offered to let him live on our boat which is the size of a one bedroom apartment with all the amenities for a third of the cost of the average rent. He’d be in a safe, gated marina near his work but he says he’s not ready yet. When I was that age I would have been thrilled for something like that; I don’t know what’s going on with this generation. Did Covid make them timid? I can’t
fathom it. That said, he helps my disabled husband and pays us rent and can be very handy to have around when things need lifting (!)
Today I have a letter to finish and 1001 other things to do. Best wishes for a great day to everyone; I’m still trying to keep up with the many posts!

Every child is so different, and unique, we can not cookie cutter them into anything until they are ready.💖👍🏼 My 36 yr old sailor is in a way younger to me than his middle brother. My eldest is happily content to be single and not dive into being any sort of family man, like his younger brother. He said, I will be that crazy single uncle with lots of toys and Legos.
When each of my 3 sons was between their junior and senior year of high school we drove them down to the Navy recruiters and announced "we are done, its your turn now". Surprised the heck outta the recruiters! It was a relief to each of my sons during their senior year, not stressing about this college exam, or that test etc, they could just relax and enjoy their senior year. Of course putting them in the Navy early (part of the DEP delayed entry program) they had to learn all the things that boot camp jams in their heads, plus exercise with other recruits weekly. Our job as parents, we just boxed up childhood treasures, and they had a bare room for a week before going to boot camp. To get them used to the shock factor of life. Tough love 101 right there!😂💖
Your 18 will find his fit, and dip his toe into adulthood soon enough. Heck I would cut my sons steak if they'd let me.😂🤗
Your long strip of an island sounds idyllic! Our island had one of its many wind storms of the winter. Took out power most all of yesterday, throughout the whole of Puget Sound. We were trying to het the Army/Navy football game on the radio, listening and understanding was quite a deal!

One of these evenings we need to drive by this lake on Whidbey that has lights all over. I went with a friend last year. We need to do it before it gets too cold and icy at night.

Edie was her usual great value and she has taken her painting away to finish at home. We talked about all sorts of things, including religion.
I made an envelope out of wrapping paper to put Max's Christmas money in and painted a possible Christmas card for next year. Not entirely happy with it.
The first thing she told us when she arrived, was that she had passed the exam to get into Max's school and had gained an 'All Rounder' scholarship. She was very happy and pleased.
It's not as large as Max's academic scholarship, but will still make a difference. But with two there it's still big money! Of course, I expect Bea will want to go too.

Michele ~ It sounds like your friend may have been anxious about the theater trip that y'all went to. Maybe it was the driving there and back that made her a bit fearful and stressed.
Saturdays and Sundays always seem so long to my husband and I. I know it's because we just stay home like a couple of slugs and don't do anything to get out of our rut.

Ws planning on just taking carry on and underseat bag on trip to Phoenix since it will only be 5 days. Told son and wife that yesterday and son said hypothetically I might want to bring a larger bag in case, hypothetically, I may need space going home! So since I am not bringing a larger checked bag I had to go buy some stocking stuffers and such for my suitcase. I have the grandkids' presents at their house already, but I do like just pulling little things out of suitcase for them. Hardest problem now is figuring out weather there-looks like it will be low 70's high 60's. Will take a pair or two of longer crops, one pair of shorts and will wear jeans out and back.
Still need to get laundry folded and ironed. Made a small pot of turkey chili for this week. Got calendar updated with my medical stuff. Cleaned litter boxes well (washed them). Trying to get everything straighten before I hit the road.
Thanks for sharing Christmas decorations and lights. I haven't done much since I will be elsewhere but I do enjoy seeing what you are doing.
Hope those with struggles find the path they need to take.

Had a rather interesting afternoon
Went grocery shopping..I get anxiety when there are alot of people in stores.. so I put ear plugs in.. gives me a little bit of peace of mind.
Got Tracy bacon for 1.99 and a fresh pineapple for 1.99 so that was good.. but as i was shopping and got to the cashier I started getting the dry heaves..luckily i held off I got to my car which was parked out front ( thank goodness) and opened the car door and just sat with the door open holding onto the cart.
Nice young worker came over and asked if I was ok.told him I was nauseous and he put my stuff in the car for me bless him... and made sure I was ok.. I sat for a few more minutes in the fresh air..and felt much better.
Drove to Tracys.. dropped off the bacon and pineapple,and of course Miles wanted me to sit,so was there for about an hour..Kyle put the lights on the tree and a few other lights,had Delia snoozing on my shoulder and Miles in my lap..and talk about a blissful moment..that was it right there.
Came home talked to Sean.. going to set some ground rules with Dan and yes he will need a storage unit.and will make him keep looking for his own place.. renting a room or something.
He has to be able to stand on his own 2 feet.7 -

Oh Allie I'm sorry you had a nausea moment, but it could have easily been all the crowds. Having the kids on you for a sec, was probably the best medicine.💖. When I saw the g'kids at mynsisters, toward the end of the evening after the kids had played, Athena go up in my lap, leg on each side facing me, and just crashed! Her head was on my chest, (she loves my squishiness). Son was just amazed she was asleep that hard. I guess she rarely takes naps maybe when they're traveling in the car she does. Also amazing is that neither son nor daughter in law had their phones out. It was refreshing to see them interact with people.💖👍🏼

Debbie - my grandmother used to make matching curtains and quilts out of sheets. She had a set in her room that was the provincial flowers of Canada. I don’t know what happened to that.

Lanette - I’ll have to look at that video when I get home.
Lisa - I agree, Allie loves taking care of others. I couldn’t say no to my kids either.
I also truly believe it’s very hard for people to live alone these days with the rents the rates they are. If you could find a studio apartment here for less than $1000 you would be very fortunate. The pays don’t match the cost of living.
Diana - I personally think that we as parents need to push our kids more, our role is to help them develop into responsible citizens. In saying that, I think society has made it a very difficult job for us, most parents can’t even let children play in their own yards without someone threatening to call CPS if you aren’t right there, the “village” of yesteryear is not as friendly as it used to be. Also, I think that 18 is a fine age to be able to stay at home longer as long as they are contributing and not being a couch potato.
I sometimes regret pushing myself to get out and go as early as I did.
Driving looking at Christmas lights - we used to do this every Christmas Eve. We would go visit my paternal grandparents and then drive around and I vaguely remember Dad carrying me into the house to go right to bed.
One year, I don’t know how old I was but for sure no older than 6, it was snowing and there was a huge snowbank across the street from my grandparents. For some reason Dad decided to plunk me down on the steps of the across the street neighbour until he could pull out away from the snowbank so I could get in. Anyway, me being a kid I decided to run my tongue on the metal railing on those stairs. You all know what happened. Dad pulled away from the curb and gestured for me to get in the car, you was getting angry because I wasn’t listening. He finally gets out of the car to tell me and realizes what happened. He PULLED me off! Part of my tongue stayed in that rail! He then took me back into my grandparents to get a cloth because I was bleeding and my grandfather gave me Coke to help calm me down.
A happier memory of looking at lights was with our girls. In 1995, my dear FIL had Santa come to the house on Christmas Eve. Santa had red cheeks and red nose, but couldn’t drive his sleigh that night. 😂 he was a poor excuse for a Santa but the intentions were good and the kids fell for it.
On the way home we looked at a few lights and of course the girls wanted to look longer. Rodger saw the cell tower light flashing and told them it was Santa, that he must be awfully close and wouldn’t come if they weren’t in bed. Those girls barely touched the floor getting in the house and into bed. Lauryn believed that for a long time, she saw them in the summer and Rodger told her it was an elf checking on her. She told one of my cousins and he went along with it!
She believed in Santa long after Kaitlyn stopped believing.
This is my FIL the 4 grands at the time and a “cheery” Santa.
Michele - my feet are acting up again too. Funnily enough the only shoe that is comfortable is my knock-off Birkenstock’s and a pair of athletic type flip flops. I can’t wear them at work though.
I love when people buy me gifts because they see something that reminds them of me. The only people that buy for me are Rodger, my girls and my BFF they all know me very well.

Today’s sale wasn’t as exciting as yesterday’s but I made the table fee back.
I have one of my little building sets I’m taking to work tomorrow and I’m going to give the other one to my neighbour.
I have ideas to finish up my Christmas shopping except for Rodger. I may do that next Saturday morning or maybe Friday evening.
Kaitlyn is coming next Saturday to help me wrap. I need to get some gifts finished. Going to be a long week.

Allie ~ I think the others have given you some good advice regarding your brother. Does he even have a job that would help support him? As I remember, he doesn't have a car for transport and has/had a court date for some reason. I know you said he had problems with his vision due to some sort of eye problem. All of that makes his life complicated but it would also make your life complicated. I hope you will think hard about what advise you have been given.
Tracey and Debbie ~ You are both to be congratulated for your efforts. Sorry that Debbie's show was a bust but happy that Tracey did well. It takes a lot of courage to get out there and try to sell your goods. Debbie, I'm not sure exactly what you are selling. Are these things that you made or that your husband made?

Rosemarie ~ I hope the pup doesn't get ink on your rug. I am so glad that you are finding new things to do and wish I could just make myself get out of the house and try new things.

Most of what we had for sale was our 3D printed items. I did have some glass ornaments, rhinestone pins and magnets and a few other things I made a few years ago.
This is just some of what we sell. It was nice having a double space to ourselves but just didn't have the customers. Thankful there was no cost to be a vendor at this one. In the past when we did this one, it was packed with vendors and customers.
We both make these- I have a printer in the kitchen that I use and I help with the clean up after they are printed before we can sell them.

just reread last night's post- Tried to go to bed early but that didn't happen. And when I did, didn't get to sleep until 11 because the neighbors next door were having a party with a bit off key Mexican Karaoke plus many others were setting off fireworks-
Was there a holiday I didn't know about. At least 4-5 other homes were setting off the fireworks. No where near what it will be like on New Year's eve/day and 4th of July. Wasn't expecting them last night.4 -

Tracey - They start secondary school at Year 7. Next September. She will be 12 end of next September, so older in her class.
My cold has developed, but I'm OK, not streaming. I've texted my brother to tell him, but he will have to make the decision. I should be a bit better by Wednesday, but I don't want to cause him any problems. I can wear a mask if he prefers. I should think he is surrounded by germs all the time, with a house full of people and visiting grandchildren/great-grandchildren.
I've got my RSV jab this morning, which is apparently OK as long as you are not running a fever. I will wear a mask in the surgery. I slept very well last night - best in ages.
I've got some chestnuts left over from the stuffing and some brussel sprouts in the fridge, so I thought I'd roast them with some streaky bacon for dinner. I've just excavated some black pudding from the freezer.
Otherwise, I will rest today and let my body recover. I might start some wrapping for the grandchildren.

Morning, my chickens... Up since about midnight, no discernible reason, just lots of things racketing around in my brain. I'll take a nap later, most likely. Buzzing with ideas at the moment, poking at getting some of those made into realities. The rest... well things tend to happen like they're supposed to, in the end.
Quiet week ahead until labs drawn on Thursday, gastroenterologist Friday. Then my primary doc on Monday to discuss lab results and see about getting an orthopedist consult for issues with so many of my joints. Getting it all out of the way before the holiday! Follow-ups will take weeks, but that's OK, too. The pain wears on me some, but when I'm in full flow mentally, I can ignore it for hours on end. And when I can't ignore it anymore, I sit down.
Corey will be off the 25th through 29th, if not longer. Will enjoy that - he's quiet company unless he gets an itch to build something. Who knows whether that will happen or not.

Had my jab. With John. Apparently people are not reporting many side effects.
I wore my mask.
Then I bought some fresh flowers in red and white for the hearth. Nice.
I wandered along to the Post Office to post a card to some friends I somehow lost touch with. My paranoia says I did something to upset them, but that is unlikely. We are old friends from my early first marriage, when we lived in trendy Camden Town. We kept in touch and saw each other until 5 or so years ago. The husband developed late onset Huntingdons, and I'm sure there have been many upheavals and moves going on. I eventually asked a mutual friend for their address, and I've updated them in a card. I hope we can re-establish contact. A lot of history.
My brother is happy to come and brave my cold, but no snogging, he says.
I've put in an order for a Waitrose delivery for Wednesday morning. All the slots are full after that!

Tracey - glad to hear you had some good sales at the craft shows. Also I laughed out loud at your good memories of Christmas with your girls when they were young - the cell tower light as Santa was very clever, and the elf watching throughout the year was brilliant as well. You and Rodger did some great parenting.
Rebecca - what a neat Christmas photo of middle son's family. Athena and Eli are just adorable!
Ginny - have a great trip and enjoy some warm sunshine.
Debbie - that's a tremendous assortment of neat items you and DH have made. Have you though about selling any of them online? (I'm not necessarily pushing this, it can be a lot of labor-intensive work shipping and dealing with customers who gripe "it's not what I thought it would be.")
Heather - hope you get over your crud quickly and the RSV jab has minimal after-effects.
I have an appointment with Dr. Lisa this morning. T is going with me. I have had 2 episodes of light headedness in the past month. Several weeks ago, I was doing dishes after supper and "swooned" - so I lowered myself onto the floor for a couple minutes, then was fine. Last Friday I was walking with weights after breakfast and suddenly "swooned" mid-walk. A couple minutes on the floor, everything OK again. I have a hunch I'll end up wearing an "event monitor" or "Holter monitor", which I've done several times in my life due to tachycardia and mitral valve prolapse. Had an echo about 10 years ago, nothing remarkable. This just might be related to my coffee habit too. 
I have some great decaf, just need to remember to switch to it sooner. And drink more water.

Lanette ~ The swooning episodes sound so scary. I hope the dr can give you some help. And, I did just read that too much coffee can cause it. Glad your friend is going with you.
Debbie ~ That's a lot of 3D creations. It must take a lot of packing to get them to the shows and return home. I hope your next show will do better for you. I remember when my DH was doing Scotts Antique Show every month that he had to pack up the long folding tables along with all the antiques. That was always quite a job. I know he could not do that any more because it is too much work.
Heather ~ Hope you heal quickly with your cold. Have thought about getting the RSV shot but have not even got the flu/pneumonia shot this year. And, have only had one Covid shot during the whole pandemic. Maybe it's a good thing that we seldom go anywhere.
Lisa ~ Hope you can get all the thoughts rambling around in your mind corralled. LOL
