@itladyee enjoy your grandson this weekend! Baking together is the best.

It’s also true about the body and when we skip A days. I feel like it screams for familiarity to grab that glass.
But it looks like you found a good solution with the Gruvi sparkling rose! Another NA one I’ll look for.

I did have a couple of mixed drinks yesterday.
It's sooooo weird how when drinking daily, it's just another thing and the body does what it needs to do. Give the body a break from alcohol, even if only 2 days and it rebels!

@itladyee I feel for you. I think you're about where I'm at right now. Unfortunately, I've been through it more than once. You would think that I would learn 🤔

When we drink daily for an extended period of time, our bodies become physically dependent on the alcohol. And, it can be very difficult to get off of the stuff. You did good going 2 days. You may want to re-read the list that @globalhiker posted. Number one on her list is tapering. I did it that way in January of 2021. The way she explains it is exactly the way to do it. That's the way that I did it. I even had a tablet and recorded my consumption (at first I was only cutting out 25 ml of whiskey every two days) and I was recording the time of day that I started drinking every day. I also started drinking a half hour later each day. It was safe and pretty much painless. But, I started up again. I thought that I could have a drink from time to time. But, it turned into daily drinking again pretty quickly.

I'm having a hard time right now. I don't feel that I have time to taper. I have doctor appointments coming up in a few weeks. And, bloodwork most likely shortly after that. Plus, I want to be sober for Christmas because I would like to be involved in the cooking. We'll see.

Anyways, I wish us both luck. Take care!

Happy first day of winter 2024!

Best laid AF Intentions went sideways last night after a Costco haul with my only DD - oh what fun we had from 6:00 pm - 8:00 shopping together! I love just hanging out with my adult kids and doing the day to day just as much as seeing them on a big holiday. It wasn’t too crazy actually, and happy I found a beautiful roast, mushrooms for stuffing and spinach I want for Christmas Eve dinner.

Came home and poured a large glass of Chardonnay and ate a big bowl of popcorn with my feet up (yep the giant bag of Skinny Pop came home too).

Today is planned AF with church tomorrow morning. This board seems is a little quieter this week and know it’s a super busy time of year for many people. Whatever you are doing in the days leading up to this holiday week, let’s remember we ARE capable making better choices. And may you and your families stay safe along your travels!

    🎄❄️⛄️🎄❄️⛄️

    December goal: 12 AF days
    Current:
    AF days - 7
    A days - 14 (including LA choices)

@Michieb125 Yes, this board has been pretty quiet lately. Probably because of the holidays.

Taking a lot of outdoor walks out in the mist and fog here - such a beautiful winter backdrop!

Haven’t given up on coming somewhat close to my AF days goal for December…..but honestly I’m getting that IDGAD attitude because we’ve been doing tons of holiday activities for a few days. And yeah, Prosecco does seem to go hand in hand for me. But not overdoing - so less?

    Now have family arriving tomorrow!

    🎄❄️⛄️🎄❄️⛄️

    Current:
    AF days - 7
    A days - 15 (including LA choices)

@globalhiker it seems we all have much to do today and tomorrow and your meal sounds delicious. Way to go on your successful AF lifestyle! You should be very proud of yourself.

@chicbuc what a fun idea - a Saran Wrap ball! I must try that sometime - I can hear the laughter right now!

@tmbg1 Congrats on making your AF goal!! That must feel amazing!

@NonnieDoiron I know you WILL accomplish all the things!!!

    Update

The rest of the year is at my discretion. I will jump on Dry January with a vengeance, there are a few exception days (same as I handled I 2024, so I'm good).

I'm going to jump on dry January, too. December is going to play out how it's going to play out because I'm a loser, baby...

I would like to say today will be wine free, but my SO is in a foul mood as he gets in EVERY freaking Christmas and I might just need to drink to deal with him the next few days.

    @chicbuc You're not a loser. If you're a loser, I don't think they have a name for me *LOL*

I plan on having a dry January also. In fact, I would like to have a dry 2025.

I tried going cold turkey a few days ago. I finished my whiskey in the evening so I didn't have any in the house. Needless to say I didn't have a very pleasant night.

I can relate to your SO being in a foul mood during the holidays...my husband is the same way. I can't wait for the holidays to be over.

I also have another dilemma. I'm trying to quit...trying to taper. But, our liquor store will be closed on Christmas day. So, I either stock up or risk being sick or miserable. My husband one day will say that he will help me to taper. Then the next day he gets mad at me for asking him to go to the store for me. I'll just see what type of mood he's in today or tomorrow. I'm really trying to quit (not by choice but because I need to). And our liquor stores being closed doesn't help.

@globalhiker yes on the menu and I will keep taking walks outside. Roast beef with au jus in my Dutch oven, cornbread, creamed spinach, Mac and cheese, and lots of appetizers much earlier in the day (protein and vegetables). Need to start with a protein shake :).

My husband set me up with whiskey to get me through Christmas (since the liquor store will be closed). He's not enabling me. He was just afraid of me having problems running out on the holiday. I was hospitalized once for alcohol withdrawals. And, I don't want to go to the hospital on Christmas day! I do intend to taper off and have a totally dry January 👍

You are all talking about NA drinks. Well, I have one for myself. A couple of years ago, a friend of mine came up to visit from CA. She was drinking cucumber water. I think it may have been a fad. But, my hubby and I started drinking it shortly after. We were using English cucumbers with Soda Stream carbonated water. It's actually quite good and I believe cucumber is a natural diuretic. For some reason we stopped. I guess we got burned out. But, that's going to be my new NA drink. He already bought the cucumber and I sliced half of it into half-moon slices. The only problem is that it might taste good with whiskey 🤔 Just kidding!

@MissMay I sure hope you start feeling better soon!
