LESS Alcohol ~ DECEMBER 2024 ~ One Day at A Time

@itladyee enjoy your grandson this weekend! Baking together is the best.
It’s also true about the body and when we skip A days. I feel like it screams for familiarity to grab that glass.
But it looks like you found a good solution with the Gruvi sparkling rose! Another NA one I’ll look for.2 -
I did have a couple of mixed drinks yesterday.
It's sooooo weird how when drinking daily, it's just another thing and the body does what it needs to do. Give the body a break from alcohol, even if only 2 days and it rebels!
@itladyee I feel for you. I think you're about where I'm at right now. Unfortunately, I've been through it more than once. You would think that I would learn 🤔
When we drink daily for an extended period of time, our bodies become physically dependent on the alcohol. And, it can be very difficult to get off of the stuff. You did good going 2 days. You may want to re-read the list that @globalhiker posted. Number one on her list is tapering. I did it that way in January of 2021. The way she explains it is exactly the way to do it. That's the way that I did it. I even had a tablet and recorded my consumption (at first I was only cutting out 25 ml of whiskey every two days) and I was recording the time of day that I started drinking every day. I also started drinking a half hour later each day. It was safe and pretty much painless. But, I started up again. I thought that I could have a drink from time to time. But, it turned into daily drinking again pretty quickly.
I'm having a hard time right now. I don't feel that I have time to taper. I have doctor appointments coming up in a few weeks. And, bloodwork most likely shortly after that. Plus, I want to be sober for Christmas because I would like to be involved in the cooking. We'll see.
Anyways, I wish us both luck. Take care!

23 AF days in a row! Friday cravings hit so I'm having tea and chocolate 🤣10
-
I had 1 AF day and then I was right back at it. I'm having a hard time just coming home from work and not pouring that first glass of wine. I'm going to try again after the weekend. *sigh*
Have a great weekend all!8 -
Happy first day of winter 2024!
Best laid AF Intentions went sideways last night after a Costco haul with my only DD - oh what fun we had from 6:00 pm - 8:00 shopping together! I love just hanging out with my adult kids and doing the day to day just as much as seeing them on a big holiday. It wasn’t too crazy actually, and happy I found a beautiful roast, mushrooms for stuffing and spinach I want for Christmas Eve dinner.
Came home and poured a large glass of Chardonnay and ate a big bowl of popcorn with my feet up (yep the giant bag of Skinny Pop came home too).
Today is planned AF with church tomorrow morning. This board seems is a little quieter this week and know it’s a super busy time of year for many people. Whatever you are doing in the days leading up to this holiday week, let’s remember we ARE capable making better choices. And may you and your families stay safe along your travels!
🎄❄️⛄️🎄❄️⛄️
December goal: 12 AF days
Current:
AF days - 7
A days - 14 (including LA choices)

@Michieb125 Yes, this board has been pretty quiet lately. Probably because of the holidays.4

25 AF days in a row- trying to stay AF until Christmas Eve 🎄5

@chicbuc ~ I’m right with you as this was/is my habit more than anything. What kinda works for me is immediately pouring something else NA. It breaks the routine.6 -
Taking a lot of outdoor walks out in the mist and fog here - such a beautiful winter backdrop!
Haven’t given up on coming somewhat close to my AF days goal for December…..but honestly I’m getting that IDGAD attitude because we’ve been doing tons of holiday activities for a few days. And yeah, Prosecco does seem to go hand in hand for me. But not overdoing - so less?
Now have family arriving tomorrow!

Happy Sunday! Great weekend baking cookies yesterday and enjoying my grandson. The cookies did not become a problem until today!
Not sure of plans tonight so no ✅ just yet. 🙂

@Michieb125 ~ I agree with you on spontaneous time spent with our adult children!!! You are also still well within your goals!
@tmbg1 ~ you are doing well!

I decided to have some wine today. My husband had offered up brandy eggnog, but I knew that I would drink the eggnog and then revert to wine.
Instead, I opened a bottle of the "good" wine and asked him to join me. He's not much of a wine drinker but he did have a glass while I had the rest
But after focusing for a few days, I feel more in control. I have substitutes and I'm good.
The rest of the year is at my discretion. I will jump on Dry January with a vengeance, there are a few exception days (same as I handled I 2024, so I'm good).
Enjoy your evening....

I'm going to jump on dry January, too. December is going to play out how it's going to play out because I'm a loser, baby...
My adult kids and their babies came to my house for family Christmas last night. We always do it the weekend before Christmas since they're all busy doing their own things on the holiday. My sister and her kids came as well. We had a lot of fun. I made a saran wrap ball with money, lottery tickets, candy, and trinkets all wrapped up inside. It was a blast watching everyone try to unwrap it on their turn! I might make that one a tradition and start buying things a little at a time to put in for next year because it got quite pricey!
I wouldn't have had to drink yesterday, but I opened a bottle while I was baking cookies and appetizers and kept it topped off all night. No one else that was here even had a drink. I would like to say today will be wine free, but my SO is in a foul mood as he gets in EVERY freaking Christmas and I might just need to drink to deal with him the next few days.

Definitely did not make it to Christmas. Oh well, it is what it is.
Been cooking and baking like crazy. I’m still not done, and we still have Christmas gifts to buy and wrap. I’m so far behind, I think I’m first.🙄🤦🏻♀️5 -
26 AF days in a row- went to a nice Christmas concert last night - gotta finish wrapping and baking today then the whole fam will be together tomorrow 🎄🎅🤶🎁🌲7
-
3 months + 22 days AF in a row, done. IMAGINE if I could only stay in my calorie limit and exercise daily for that long?
I didn't post this weekend since I have been busy working my Ms. Santa job. Today I will juggle hardly working from home with washing all the bedding since my kiddos are sleeping over plus cleaning and making the final mad dash to the supermarkets. OH - and I have 3 empty Xmas stocking to fill yet - but no mini booze bottles or candy. This is freakin HARD!
Do you have your holiday menu and holiday exercise plan ready??? Rib Roast and potatoes and cornbread and vegetable kabobs and apple pie + hiking around the hood before and after!6 -
@globalhiker it seems we all have much to do today and tomorrow and your meal sounds delicious. Way to go on your successful AF lifestyle! You should be very proud of yourself.
@chicbuc what a fun idea - a Saran Wrap ball! I must try that sometime - I can hear the laughter right now!
@tmbg1 Congrats on making your AF goal!! That must feel amazing!
@NonnieDoiron I know you WILL accomplish all the things!!!3 -
Had wine last night while wrapping and baking. Tonight is none or possibly one glass with my mother and DIL who arrive tonight.
I too have 8 empty stockings to fill and thank goodness I did shop for these before today!
Socks, bath bombs and facial masks for the girls and nail clippers, funny soaps and beef jerkey for the boys. I will throw some Lindt chocolate balls in.
Keeping it small with my over all theme but I like to do stockings when we are hosting my kids and their families. The grandkids are so excited seeing their own little stockings hung by the fireplace.
Why is it that the day before Christmas Eve I find little presents I still need to wrap?!? I thought I was done and have a very busy cook day since we’re celebrating (again) tonight and all day tomorrow - I need a Santa’s helper.
Baked some killer frosted sugar cookie bars last night as they are my ultimate favorite cookie I have once a year. But yeah the no sugar and soberish January are just around the corner! I’m not waiting per se but looking forward to creating some
improved health goals and tossing the candy that keeps showing up
I bought pomegranate juices, Ollipop cranberry fizz sparkling water, and Fever tree grapefruit and ginger beer. My plan is to alternate any wine with an N.A. beverage.
Stay safe everyone and may you find your best resolve just for today! Hugs!5 -

@chicbuc You're not a loser. If you're a loser, I don't think they have a name for me *LOL*
I plan on having a dry January also. In fact, I would like to have a dry 2025.
I tried going cold turkey a few days ago. I finished my whiskey in the evening so I didn't have any in the house. Needless to say I didn't have a very pleasant night.
I can relate to your SO being in a foul mood during the holidays...my husband is the same way. I can't wait for the holidays to be over.
I also have another dilemma. I'm trying to quit...trying to taper. But, our liquor store will be closed on Christmas day. So, I either stock up or risk being sick or miserable. My husband one day will say that he will help me to taper. Then the next day he gets mad at me for asking him to go to the store for me. I'll just see what type of mood he's in today or tomorrow. I'm really trying to quit (not by choice but because I need to). And our liquor stores being closed doesn't help.

@globalhiker yes on the menu and I will keep taking walks outside. Roast beef with au jus in my Dutch oven, cornbread, creamed spinach, Mac and cheese, and lots of appetizers much earlier in the day (protein and vegetables). Need to start with a protein shake .2

Hi gang, been battling the c-o-l-d from H-E-L-L. A week now. Just when I think I am rounding the get better corner it hits again during my sleep.
So caught up reading, I am going to be honest, so sorry, no energy to respond to everyone.
Accountability is
-0- ZERO alcohol for December and now at 79 days in a row AF. Going for 90 as my next personal goal.9 -
@MissMay FEEL BETTER!!!
@SurferGirl1982 We're not losers. I just get down on myself sometimes. You CAN do this taper and be ready for January!
@itladyee Thanks for the hugs and backatcha!
@globalhiker @Michieb125 Your menus sound divine!
I do a traditional all homemade dinner for my dad and aunt and uncle every year...turkey and ham, dressing with fresh herbs (my favorite), mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh green beans, mac and cheese, and dinner rolls. I started doing this a few years ago and just throw it out there to whoever wants to come. Some years we get a group. Some years it's just my dad.
6 -
@chicbuc I know I will be ready for January! I'll meet you there and we will be successful!2
-
My husband set me up with whiskey to get me through Christmas (since the liquor store will be closed). He's not enabling me. He was just afraid of me having problems running out on the holiday. I was hospitalized once for alcohol withdrawals. And, I don't want to go to the hospital on Christmas day! I do intend to taper off and have a totally dry January 👍
You are all talking about NA drinks. Well, I have one for myself. A couple of years ago, a friend of mine came up to visit from CA. She was drinking cucumber water. I think it may have been a fad. But, my hubby and I started drinking it shortly after. We were using English cucumbers with Soda Stream carbonated water. It's actually quite good and I believe cucumber is a natural diuretic. For some reason we stopped. I guess we got burned out. But, that's going to be my new NA drink. He already bought the cucumber and I sliced half of it into half-moon slices. The only problem is that it might taste good with whiskey 🤔 Just kidding!
@MissMay I sure hope you start feeling better soon!

It is probably time to stop all together. I drink even 1 glass and I’m in night sweats for half the night. It’s become more of a thing these past couple months that I’ve been drinking more again. I’m going to have to just bite the bullet and avoid it, and talk to hubby about the “magically appearing wine bottles”.
Christmas Day is just us and my BIL and his wife. Making a brisket, mac and cheese, green bean and corn casserole, sausage cranberry and apple dressing, and roasted root veggies.
The next Christmas celebration is Friday night with my son’s (the one with autism) girlfriend’s family. This family is LOUD, so we are getting with them separately so I don’t lose my s-h-i-t! Because her dad is a VERY picky eater, we are having what I call “movie night dinner”: chicken tenders, taquitos, pigs in a blanket, chips, fruit platter, and probably brownies.
Then, Sunday my oldest son, his wife, and kids are coming to dinner, and to be honest I have no idea what I’m making. It may be clean the fridge day by that time. I already have a ton of leftover food in my fridge, and it’s just going to get worse.
I think I will go for my walk today though because the trash is really starting to pile up. I may need to take a wagon with me today.
Merry Christmas everyone!6 -

I feel that! My AF time has not translated into weightloss because I've not been as motivated to exercise or diet. My holiday meal is grilled steaks, homemade mashed potatoes, green beans, and coconut cream pie.6 -
Christmas Eve Eve! Not AF but no wine! )
Have a great Christmas Eve!!

Happy Christmas Eve!
Family was together last night and today again starting with breakfast, then Church service at 2:00 p. m. and all kinds of shenanigans and good food afterwards! I have a plan to enjoy the family fun and am fortunate to be together with those I love.
I’m happy my family doesn’t ever drink to excess but I know not everyone can say that.
Holiday blessings to you my LA friends!6 -
@NonnieDoiron I know what you're talking about night sweats. You have more AF days than A days. But I haven't had an AF day in a least a month. A few days ago, I decided to try and quit cold turkey. But, it didn't go well. I was up half of the night. Normally, I would get up and have a drink...but there was none in the house. And the T-shirt that I wore to bed was wet from sweating. Very miserable night.
I had my husband buy me enough whiskey to get me through Christmas. But, then I'm going to wean myself off and I hope to be AF by January 1st. If I ever get past this, I'm never going back!
Merry Christmas to you all!
