Beth, our daughter got Dave one of those bird feeders for Christmas. The directions for his said it had to be mounted to a tree or the house. Since neither of those options was something he wanted to do, he put it back in the box. I don’t know what we’re going to do with it. If we mount it to a tree, the squirrels will just have a feast. We keep our regular non-smart feeders on a shepherd’s hook that we grease with vaseline. They can still sometimes get to them, but it is much, much harder.
I didn’t take any pain meds for 24 hours. I did take some before bedtime because my knee was starting to feel weak. Pt again tomorrow.
I ordered new rugs for the bathrooms from Target - one 24x30 and 5 18x24. They came today. The 5 that I thought were 18x24 rectangles all had a cut-out for a toilet. Not quite sure how I missed that in the description! Back to Target they go tomorrow. I will try to find some in the store.4 -
Had a busy afternoon. Went to take care of MIL's dog while dh went to see his mom. Did that this morning too (after taking care of all the cats at home), After I got back from walking Kobe, my friend text me. She works with a group that does TNR for cats and they had a last minute opening and could take all three of our kitties to be fixed. AND, this clinic is only $75 each instead of the $128 that the other one would be.(they are both low cost clinics). Came home and got them put in cages and friend is taking them in for us. As soon as she left I got in the car and met my Zumba friends to walk beings we don't have class this month. Walked for an hour- It was chilly!! but nice walk. We would have walked a little longer but both of us needed to pee and the bathrooms there are locked. Glad I only live 3min away. Just over 17,000 steps for the day so far. Won't get too many more.
Have to be up early tomorrow- dentist at 9, take care of the dog-longer walk with him beings I won't be walking with my friends then eye dr appt to pick up new sun glasses. Back to take care of the dog again later in the afternoon to take him on a shorter walk and feed him. Dh drops me off and goes sees his mom. I would rather take care of the dog than go see her.

Good morning everyone. Looking forward to coffee this morning. It’s so chilly this morning and my motivation doesn’t seem to be anywhere nearby just yet.
Barbie - Give yourself some grace, honey. And don’t forget self care. Riding your bike, knitting, all of those things are self care. Sending hugs your way.
Beth - I feel like I must know more about this bird feeder. Have you gotten many good pics yet? Also, I was “today years old” when I remembered that buttermilk exists. 🤦🏼♀️ Now I sort of want to go get some and find a reason to use it. Your Mom just drinks it?
qupo6 - Welcome. I am still new to this group myself. It takes a minute to catch up, but everyone here is so great. It’s like a live journal and I enjoy reading everyone’s daily adventures.
Pip - I almost moved to Pismo. It’s just enough removed from all of the busy. Glad you are free of the smoke. Your RV adventures remind me of some happy days. Stay safe.
Rebecca - I am zero help with fasting. But coffee, that I can help with. Ha! My coach recently introduced me to half and half with honey in my coffee. It’s so very tasty. I also have a friend that produces his own real maple syrup. It is also quite tasty in coffee.
Heather - you had me at Feta. 🫶🏻
Michelle - Agreed. NC needs to snap out of it and warm back up. But I’m not seeing that happening much over the next few days. I’m staying bundled and find myself standing in a sliver of sunlight in my kitchen to drink my coffee and warm up the last few days. I even put on……… socks 😱 (Dunn dunnn dunnnnnnn) 😱 and I never wear socks. After I hit 50, I swear my cold tolerance hit the road.
grandmallie - those cheeks! So cute! 🥰
dlfk202000 - try focusing on lean protein. This will sustain you longer. With the oatmeal, try whipping in egg whites just before it’s finished. It’s really quite tasty, adds fluffiness and gives you that protein you need.
Rosemarie - puppies are a handful, aren’t they? Hang in there. With your shots, diet and moment are everything. Try focusing on protein. Multiple small meals. Basic movement like walking and getting those steps in. I hope the needle starts moving for you soon.
Rori - Happy Birthday! 🎈🎉 Enjoy!
Sounds like this guy you’re dating is pretty great. I was sold on the bed making with no prompting. 🤣 It’s the little things.
Okay then. Well I’m off to get my movement started and kick this day in the butt. Coffee first. Gotta sign up for new insurance today and get my daughters FAFSA finished.
Enjoy your day everyone! Stay safe and warm.

Rosemarie ~ Nice to see you dropping by! Good luck training your pup!

Good evening!
Add me to the once I break fast I am hungry! Granddaughter at shop today. She is getting much better at phone calls-:) She also makes the best hard boiled eggs! I had 1 at 10am, a slice of pizza at 12, salad at 2, then yogurt with remaining berries and cinnamon walnuts about 430. All of that would have been fine if a customer hadnt brought in a box of chocolates! The good thing is I only eat the turtles. The Bad thing is I ate all 3! I am not a cream chocolate lady. Turtles and toffee are my chocolate downfalls. I have 150 calories left for dinner.....
Did get a few items taken care of at work. Dropped DH off for massage, then bank run, costco run (people look at you strange if you don't have a cart!) I only needed two things there. Picked up prescriptions, now waiting for DH to get done. If it wasn't 19° without wind chill I could have walked around, but I am not made for the cold!
I think you are all doing great with logging and movement. We CAN do this!
Now it is Good Tuesday morning! I was tired last night. Got home, cooked, ate, cleaned kitchen, played with kitties, and promptly fell asleep in recliner!
Rori Happy Birthday! I am always happy to hear about your exciting life.
Beth I bet mom was happy to have her buttermilk. My childhood friend's father always had a large cup of raisen bran with buttermilk as his evening meal. They were farmers. Big meals were breakfast and mid day (dinner). Mom prepared those. Supper was whatever you found. I missed dinner with them once because that was what we called our evening meal. This was in Alabama.
Rosemarie Puppies can be trying! I was lucky enough with oir dogs all but one was housebroken when we got her. They were all a year old or older. Our German Shepherd housebroke our Pyrenees. Congratulations on the new project! I am excited for you! I am with you on sunshine! It was sunny but cold yesterday.
Tracey I hear you on the corporation and changes. Unfortunately that is also true with small businesses.
Found out last night that we have a leak in the farmhouse roof. Most likely ice under the metal roof. Hoping we can find someone to address it. Like Pip our farm is about 2 hours away. We rely heavily on the guys who rent the land to keep an eye on the house. They had 12" of snow, 1" of ice, and another 4" of snow. We are hoping the damage is caused from frozen rain gutters and just the spot in the kitchen .
Heidi I hear you on socks! I also feel that way about shoes. You know i am cold if I have socks on at home. Like the idea of egg whites in oatmeal. I love honey in coffee. I use locally sourced honey. This small habit has helped my allergies and health. Fewer colds and no bronchitis in 10 years. I use to get it 3 times a year.
Barbie It can be a lot to deal with. Take your time and remember to take care of you!
I better get this posted! Have to get ready for work
Much love,
Make the best choices you can in the moment!
Hugs and prayers!

Winter! I just finished logging last nights dinner (I fell asleep last night). Playing with kittens gave me more calories! Eggs gave me my protein goal!
Sad for those in California fires.

Rori - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I smile every time I read about your time spent with N. What a lovely, lovely relationship.
Heidi in NC - welcome! Elderberry, zinc and Vit C are my go-to as well when I feel like I'm coming down with the crud. I took a lot of Zicam when I flirted with Covid last September and was over it in a couple days.
Debbie - So neat you are getting in all that walking. Do you think your DH is calming down now that MIL isn't in her house anymore and he's not compelled to be with her so much there?
Rita - hope you are feeling better.
Rosemarie - the changes in your house sound great. Nice the insurance had some cash value. Sorry your pup doing it's business outside reliably. I still give Rosie a treat every time she comes back in from being outside and she'll be 8 this year. A couple cheerios! Not expensive, not fattening. She doesn't even care if they are stale - I have them sitting in a bowl on the counter. I'm excited for your vacation plans.
Barbie - I also temporarily lost my DH's death certificates. Everything is such a flurry at first. The funeral home gave me three copies. When I finally located them, I stuck one in with my will, gave one to T who's my executor (I think I'll give her my will as well). And copy #3 is around here someplace - or maybe I sent it to his retirement fund?? With the cold weather coming up this weekend, I really don't want to do my early shopping when it's 20F. I have lunch with M on Thursday, so I plan to restock then. At least no snow predicted so the roads shouldn't be icy.
Kim - your buttermilk story brought back good memories of my childhood. We had a cow and mom made butter and I loved the buttermilk. I wonder if there's any made locally - I going to check. Thank you!
About logging -I was wondering why my weight has been going up a to a new "set point." I went back into the logging records from last September when I was at my lowest weight and feeling good. I was surprised to see that I was now eating a large proportion of food at supper, then going to bed shortly afterward. And eating more than I had been - I haven't been logging for the past couple months, I just thought I had my eating habit down because my weight was staying in a good range. Not that I've been eating many carbs, I'm still doing OK there. But I'm eating when I'm not hungry, which isn't good - and with all of the protein I'm getting, hunger is rarely a problem. In the last diabetes prevention class, the leader asked how many of us were logging and most of us said we weren't over the holidays, and weight was coming back on.
And I used to pre-plan and pre-log my meals for the day up until a few months ago. So, back on the wagon. This was a good reminder to me to keep up with the logging habit, it's easy to slide into dangerous territory. By the way, a trick I learned from Heather years ago - just "copy yesterday" then make changes as needed.
Social Security adventure- yesterday morning I called the SS 1-800 number. When I finally got through, it was a 2 hour wait. Same thing at the local office - their recording said they were busy and call back later. When I called back later, I just got a busy signal. I tried the 1-800 number at noon, and it was only a 20-minute wait so got through. It turns out everything was fine, SS had caught their mistake and fixed it but my account on the website hasn't been updated for some reason, so very confusing. I also learned if we call the 1-800 number and have a question, when asked "why are you calling?" just say "Help Desk" and that will get right through to a person.
Collette is coming to clean this morning, so I'm playing pickup and cleaning off counters and turning the thermostat up for her. I want to get the morning chicken chores done before she arrives at 8, I'm so glad it's getting light out earlier.
Make it a super day!

Tonight
Last night
Got a quick bicycle ride in this evening. Also walked and climbed stairs today.
Tomorrow is supposed to be hot and muggy and I'm debating whether I'm going to melt in the outfit I've chosen. I might wear my hair up ... that might help.
I had a lovely Christmas holiday, but I've been going flat out since then with work. Going against my preference, I've been bringing my laptop home and working during the weekend and in the evenings. I don't like doing that. But there is just so much work to be done. Finally, today, I decided enough was enough, and I was absolutely not bringing my laptop home tonight.
I had enough time this evening :
- for a quick bicycle ride
- to attend a ZOOM training session on new software for my cycling club
- to tidy a little bit
- to colour
- and to download some photos off my phone, process a few and post a couple.

Carol, The "we" is my housemate and I - he thinks he would like to homestead one day, so he has an interest in some of these skills.... I love the idea of being more self sufficient, and always of cutting costs and having more control of the amount of sugar and salt in foods - but I realize the benefit of just running to the store. My housemate is 25 and doesn't run out of energy and time in the same way I do.

I tried a different way to make yogurt yesterday. I put a small covered glass bowl into my crockpot. I put some water in the bottom and and place another small glass to keep it out of the water. I learned it is best to have the milk (I uses half and half) at 98-100. If it gets too hot it kills the bacteria. I monitored the milk with a digital probe. I learned even on low the crock pot is too hot for the milk. It is fine for the initial because you do want to get it over 120-180 to start to kill any microbes you do not want. Once the starter is added you want to keep it around 100 degrees which I did by turning off the crockpot and covering it in towels and occasionally turning on the heat briefly. Doing it by this method was ready in six hours. I did look into a yogurt or insta pot. The yogurt maker I like is not in stock and about 100 dollars. The insta pots that I like are over 100 too. I think I stick to my crock pot method for now. One less appliance and money stays in the bank. It would be easier to buy the yogurt maker or insta pot so I will never say never to buying one.
I am learning more and more that it our microbes that influence so much of our health. Unfortunately antibiotics wipe out the good along with the bad. It is a challenge to know how to repopulate the gut and how to maintain a healthy gut once it is healthier.
One of my favorite doctors on the subject is William Davis. His theory as a cause of kidney stones is antibiotic wipe out the microbe prevotella which is the microbe that helps us digest oxalates. Oxalates they believe are the cause of kidney stones. So rather than give up foods high in oxalates like spinach and almonds perhaps another approach is to find a way to fix the gut so it can digest these foods because we can other nutrients from said foods.
He is studying other microbes and their effect on weight and muscle mass. I find it interesting they give livestock antibiotics as one of the ways to put weight on them. When we eat that meat we also add to our antibiotic load. I am trying to be more careful about my meat choices. It is another challenge.
Yes antibiotic can be life saving. There are side effects to antibiotic use.3 -
Rosemarie, two suggestions for potty training that worked for Annie---take her out the second she wakes up, give her a treat for doing business outside.
Thank you to everyone who reminded me to take my time, find time for self care, and not expect it all to get done right away.
I am eating regular meals, riding my exercise bike at least an hour a day, walking 10,000 steps or more, and talking to people. Being connected to all of you makes a huge difference in my life.

Helloooooo from the thawed-out reaches of the Arkansas River Valley,
We're still icy in the mornings, and everything's still dripping in the afternoons, sort of slow-motion, chilly rain, as the remaining snow gives back to the land around these parts. The icy bits are still treacherous, though.
I found this out the hard way as I was dragging the trash wheelie bin back up the driveway. I tried to step over the snow in the center, didn't quite make it. The rut on the other side had a little ice under the remaining snow, and whoop, landed on my left backside in the middle of the driveway.
Somehow, I avoided impacting anything breakable, and in a very soft patch of snow. I learned how to fall three decades ago, when I weighed over 300 pounds. This morning, I can feel the muscles that got a bit of a twist, mainly in my left shoulder and hip, but overall no damage. I was lucky. And even better, I was able to get back up from the ground without a problem. A week of exercising came in very handy. All that was hurt was my dignity, and who needs that?👀🐈⬛😜
Heidi in NC- Well done, my dear, jumping into this group with both feet! Love adding new people to this incredibly supportive group of women. You're a great addition.
Mo - Always think of you when I think of great additions, dear heart. Hope it's a good shift this time, and all the babies are able to get better and go home safely.
Rori - Happy 69th birthday, my friend! Sounds like an absolutely lovely time with N.
Lanette - For me, when I'm hovering at the top end of my maintenance range, a number of busy days help a lot to get it down to where it should be. Plus I've found over the years that, when I'm exercising regularly, I tend to keep a pound or two more on my body. I don't know if my appetite goes up, or what, but it's been a constant cycle.
What I think is interesting is that, if I'm not mistaken, you're at least 7 inches taller than me (aren't you 5'9" tall?), as I'm 5'2" on a good day, possibly back down to 5'1" by now. And my top maintenance range weight is 155-160, about the same as yours, I think.
Right now, I'm in size 10 or 12 jeans (not that I wear anything but yoga pants!) and medium or large T-shirts, as I don't want them to touch me. I could be smaller, but I feel healthy and comfortable at this weight.
On the yoga pants thing (sounds better than "sweatpants," you know), I only wear black. I tried buying a navy blue pair and a purple pair when I bought new pants for the winter, and I hated them. Did not like looking down at my legs encased in those colors. I'm not getting older, I'm getting weirder! Well, and older too, it's not like I've got a choice! 👵🏼😜🐈⬛
Just got my "good morning" call from Corey - I slept nearly 9 hours last night! Love that, feel rested and ready to go. Will probably go into town this morning or tomorrow morning. Trying to decide still.
Later, my dears,
Love y'all,

Adventures in Home Reno - And... the back bathroom fixtures we selected, in the end. Was able to get a good price at Lowes, and got free delivery, and included mirror, plus got the faucet and towel ring. Again, black isn't my first choice, but I think it will look quite good against bright white walls. I'll bring some color in with a brightly colored hand towel.

Got a note from Annie. This is what she said:
Thanks. I feel like I've been barely hanging on since I was sick the end of October with the diverticulitis. We made it through Christmas, although I still have two presents to buy. And I finally got my meds sorted about a week ago, so that should be kicking in. The senior center closed for two weeks, and then for snow, so I've had Dad without a break. Today he goes back to his adult day care and I am going to dye my hair instead of buying groceries. But my latest news is that my wonderful little Teddy boo died on Sunday. He was 14 with a bad heart murmur. He collapsed in the snow and I brought him inside and held him until the end. He was the sweetest dog ever. So just when I was thinking about being less withdrawn and more social, I'm a mess again. Full of myself and my complaints. Hope you had a great holiday. But we are hanging on. The laundry and dishes eventually get done, and the bills are paid. No police and no hospital involved. Thank you for asking. It means a lot to me that you all care. Annie
Kim – let us know how the pricing works with the butter. Now I find that it’s less expensive to buy applesauce than it is to make it (unless you get the apples for free). Yet, it’s less expensive to make my own Greek yogurt. Tell me about the prices of things! The other day the price of eggs was over $4 for a dozen. I’m still using the butter I have in the freezer that I bought for $1.69. I’m going to cringe when I use it up
Think I’ll do some HIIT tomorrow and then take the water class. I mainly do my thing first and then join the class when it starts because I don’t want to sit around for ½ an hour doing nothing. I have places to go, things to do….lol
Rori – what a guy N is! And Mars likes him – that says an awful lot. Happy Birthday
deb – I have no idea how much the place Jess volunteers at that does spaying and neutering charges. However, she wanted to do the 4 kittens and we just gave them a donation of $300.
I need to get my hair cut and just found out that the cosmetology place at the college is closed until NEXT Tuesday. In a way, I find this to be weird. When these gals go out in the working world, businesses don’t close for a week just because of snow. A day or two, but not more. So this in a sense isn’t preparing them for the working world
Heidi – I never thought of adding egg whites to oatmeal! Thanks for the suggestion. I’m always on the lookout for ways to have different foods. Like Heather introduced me to using shirataki noodles in soup. I think of her every time I use them. Hey, do you have BCBS of NC? If so, did you get a letter about FitOn Health? I get my honey from this guy right down the road. You can see the bee hives in his backyard! Can’t get much more local than that!
Kylia – hope the leak gets fixed quickly
Lanette – someone around here has chickens and I’m always surprised that they don’t go in the road. Is there a reason for this? They don’t have a fence up or anything
Lisa – good for you being able to get back up!
Want to get this posted asap so you all get to see Annie’s note.

Michele ~ I am wondering if so many businesses and schools are staying closed because of the Helene disaster in Western N. Carolina. Just a thought!
Allie ~ Delia just gets cuter and cuter and she sure looks like her big brother.
Lisa ~ The new bathroom fixtures will look really nice when installed. We have 3 bathrooms and all 3 need to be totally renovated in this 30+ yr old house. Our kitchen could use the same thing.
I have been walking the circle inside my house...entry way, den, kitchen, dining room, and living room. It is getting easier and I know that it will make me feel better overall. I am trying to do this between commercials on tv!

I think he is starting to calm down, well, most days.
Last night he said that beings I am going to take care of MIL's dog after I get done at the dentist, he doesn't have to get up. He is going to skip going to see his mom.
Lately he has been dropping me off to take care of the dog while he sees his mom and brings her a McDonald's coffee(even though they have coffee there). Last night she told him not to bring coffee because it was making her sick. She is refusing to eat, unless it is sweets and she is a diabetic.
He said he is going to sleep in today. He stayed up until after 3am.
No kittens in the house today to wake him up(they are at the spay/neuter "spa" today) and the rest of the cats are fed and are back napping.
I am heading to the dentist now then over to walk and feed the dog.4 -
I couldn’t get in anywhere yesterday to see a doc. The clinics and my primary were all full. I have an appointment today at 3:30. I need to get the sinus/air infection treated. I coughed everything out of my lungs so the cough is better, thank goodness! That alone was doubling me over. I should be back to normal by the end of the week.
Butter My niece has a goats (she lives in Kentucky) and she posted how she tried making her own butter and loves how it came out. I tried it once and liked the result as well. The buttermilk left over, well I’m not sure what to do with that. I need to try doing that again as the cost of butter is so high. I use Tillimock or Challenge brand and they are over $5 a pound. I’ll have to experiment to see the cost with making it myself versus buying it. The ‘cheap’ butter only tastes like water to me so won’t buy it.
I’m having a time with the UPS/Post Office/ Amazon mixups. I was getting all my UPS/Amazon orders through my PostOffice but the PO is no longer accepting ANYTHING from UPS, so anything I had ordered from Christmas to the 10th when I found out about the issue, is riding around in UPS trucks going from distributor-to Roswell UPS office- Returned to distributors/Amazon. Sometimes, the items go back and forth a couple of times before getting to Amazon and refunded. Spent an hour on the phone yesterday trying to locate/cancel orders and still not done. I’m supposed to wait until the 16th to call them back with whatever has not been refunded. What a mess!! I am making a list of things ordered and if they were refunded or not and where they are, or if I tried to get a refund through the Amazon ‘system’ which does not give an option for never received the item. Sigh,,
Thought for the day:
What do squash where to the beach?

Oh yummy! I have a jar of good quality honey with the comb in it. Every so often I take a gold little spoon and scoop out a bit of comb, chewing on it until its a blob of wax. Just not keen on digesting that wax part, but I know its edible.
My Kona coffee is delightful, and its no problem cleaning out my little pod filter each time.
Truvia sweetener is half sweetener and half sugar. Its from the Stevia plant, so its not really chemically tasting, but I do notice the taste is "brighter" than just regular sugar.

Michele - Thanks for letting us know Annie's message, and Annie, I'm so sorry about Teddy.
Ran into town to the thrift store, grocery store and back, put my hair dye on when I got back. Am waiting for it to finish doing its thing, and will get in the shower. Never could wash my hair in a sink without getting soaked to the waist, even with short hair!
Talked to our son John this morning, and they probably won't make it by before they move to Jacksonville, FL, in mid-February. We're OK with that, we saw them at Thanksgiving, and he and I text back and forth each week.
Time for the shower and then yoga. I'd do it the other way around, but the hair dye is a little drippy. Not worried - I've gone 7 days without missing a day, want to continue my streak.

Zucchini bikini!

That Amazon fiasco uugh, I am sorry that's happening! Hopefully it all smooths out, you get refunds.
I only buy Tillamook butter, and cheeses too. I buy the cheap Imperial margarine for husband because he doesn't notice one way or another. The Tillamook company is a conglomerate of co-op farmers. I follow a farmer named Derrick on FB and he's a character. He talks to his cows and calls them his ladies, and they are too cute. He has one video where he is out in he field talking to his ladies, having a safety meeting. He is telling them that he notices the prices of mascara has gone way up, and they all need to cut back....its hilarious!
I have convinced people at the commissary looking at butter and I just tell them to buy Tillamooks. Hands down, no regrets, just buy that one. And they do!
Hope your appointment goes well and you start feeling better!
Hugs

Debbie - So neat you are getting in all that walking. Do you think your DH is calming down now that MIL isn't in her house anymore and he's not compelled to be with her so much there?

Make it a super day!

I am heading to the dentist now then over to walk and feed the dog.
I'm going to the dentist too, today. Hope yours goes well. I just hope I don't get a coughing jag as I am getting my teeth cleaned...gaaah!

Big hugs to you!
You have such a strength about you! With any grief I have had in my life, I compare it to a "sneaker wave". Just comes out of nowhere, knocking you flat. You just hold tightly onto something or someone, and ride it out, until you get your footing. I am sure you have had waves hit you like that, but know we are here for you. To find your footing.
