I’ve still got this cold and it’s moved into my chest so doing a lot of coughing and low on energy. I still got 4 runs in but I think the cold air isn’t helping
All the photos are great!8 -
Afternoon all.
Got in 7.0M at 10"22.
@ContraryMaryMary cool. That's nice!
@WarmJellyfish Hannanese chicken? Lol.
Need to do my research prior to going... But do wanna hit up that famous hole in the wall Michelin starred foodjoint in one of the Hawker markets; the Muslim quarter for their biryanis; may need to rewatch the Bourdain parts unknown episode again - though it may be seriously outdated8 -
Nice run and photos @WarmJellyfish .
Great running @kgirlhart . I hope the dust settles for you too. It makes running outdoors hard too, I'm sure.
I hope you feel better soon @Mari33a .
Nice run @tarun_yadavA .4 -

Still can't run 3km, but I'm getting faster 😅 Which means if I tried running slower I'd probably be able to run 3km 🤦♂️10 -

First run in the hill country in a while. It was a very pleasant 46F and sunny but very windy, which was lovely when it was behind you but very harsh when in your face! The hills weren't as hard as I thought they might be. The wind was probably the biggest factor. My knee did ok until the very end where I have a couple of steep downhills, which seem to bring it on.9 -

That's the conundrum, isn't it? It's so hard to slow down when running is starting to feel easier.
The food looks amazing @ContraryMaryMary! The raspberry shaped sorbet is so beautiful!5 -
You are being very consistent @yirara . I have no doubt that you will get there.
Great run @martaindale . Wind usually feels like it is in my face both directions. Glad your knee was mostly okay.

Today's run was challenging. I think partly because my legs are sore from lifting yesterday. I hope I'll be able to walk tomorrow.
I did a run/walk of mostly 2/1 min. Running paces were from 5.0-6.1 mph. I got 5 miles in at an avg pace of 12:08 min/mile. I slowed for another half mile. Total 5.5 miles was an average pace of 12:18 min/mile. Avg HR was 133 with a max of 161 bpm. At least that is close. I messed up the segments on my watch, but that's the closest I can get. I'm happy with the overall pace.
I just found out today that the gym I am going to will be closing the end of the month. The owner is moving. Makes me sad. I'm not sure if I'll join another gym or not. If I do, I will probably get a personal trainer because I know that has made a difference for me and my motivation.

I'm generally a pretty poor photographer. Here's sunset tonight in downtown San Francisco. It's about 60 degrees. Weather has been great the whole trip
9 -
@tarun_yadavA youtube! lots of up to date locales to find
@chris_in_cal love seeing pics of other cities. Sunset is a bonus!
@mari333a hope you get better soon
@kgirlhart skunks are cute, from a distance
@quilteryoyo sorry to hear your gym is closing
Got a 10k in this early morning. It is always amazing how there is hardly any twilight here. Morning light just seems to come on. Was super stiff until I got the first 2 walk breaks in. I usually do Galloway's 5 and 1s. Sometimes 10/1s. LvSD. Need to learn to run faster but I seem to be getting slower and slower, sigh aging. Legs don't hold up like they used to. Rain started at the 5k turnaround. Hardly get any monsoonal rains my usual neck of the woods so this was fun!!! So many puddles to splash through. I'm really just a kid.
Clouds were low enough to start brushing the tops of the buildings.

I ran 8 miles today. I felt good. It was cold and windy. It wasn't bad if I was heading south, but it was not nice running north. I enjoyed it though. I saw a great blue heron, but otherwise it was pretty uneventful.
I am glad I ran today. It is already getting cold and it was snowing a bit when I let Pup out. I will probably just stay inside tomorrow.

I’ve started training for a hike my girlfriend and I are doing in April so we walked my old 12k trail run. Definitely uses different muscles to running. Nice day for it - not too hot and rather breezy.
The much needed rain hasn’t arrived but there is now a heavy rain warning for Tuesday so there’s still hope.8 -
Nice sunset @chris_in_cal .
@WarmJellyfish I'm glad to see that there is another Galloway fan here. Glad you enjoyed splashing through the puddles. Reminds me of the time I got caught out in the rain on a run and started singing - "I'm Singing In The Rain" and maybe threw in a few dance moves. I'm sure the neighbor's thought I was crazy. Nice picture.
Nice 8 miles @kgirlhart . I have a feeling several of us will be staying inside for the next few days.
I hope you get the rain you need @ContraryMaryMary . How long is your hike in April?5 -
Morning.
Got in 5 at 10"43.
Left arch played up again. Maybe overdid it last couple of days.
Back to icing and deep heating and taking it easy8 -
@tarun_yadavA ohoh sounds like maybe you need to get your orthotics checked out again. Our bodies change and it's been what 2 years? Hope it's just a twinge and taking it a little easy will help.
@chris_in_cal very nice photo from your trip. Gotta love the sundown palette of colors and how they spread across the skyline
@quilteryoyo that SUCKS about your gym. Hope you can find a good replacement and trainer you like so you can continue on.
@martaindale you picked a crazy weekend to come to the hill country. Hope you are not planning on traveling on tuesday. Brrrrrr... and possibly ice of course. yucko.
@yirara you are doing great! I mean it has not been that long since your significant surgery so you should be proud of your progress!
It was definitely a sea change today with temps in the 20s and wind chills pretty ugly north wind a blowin 🥶🥶🥶 But I actually overdressed and was too warm with my layers. ended up taking my mittens off and opening my jacket for the last mile. I was not sure I would get even a mile in as I was pretty stiff and cold when I started but then I just kept going and ended up with another 8 same as yesterday. 🤪🤷♀️
@kgirlhart glad you are feeling better and got your longer run in again - decent pace also. You recovered pretty quickly! Normally for a cold it takes me about 2-3 weeks to feel human again.

PS - I wanted to shout out for these very light weight masks which I tried out today after the facebook group "old ladies running" had a photo of someone running. They are great because your glasses won't fog up and you can actually breath vs the other types of gators and such you pull up over your face. On Amazon and come in a set of 3 different colors.
The group is pretty good on facebook altho I am always a little shocked when a 30 or 40 something joins as an "old lady". 😂😂😏
3 -
Sorry your foot is hurting again @tarun_yadavA . I hope taking it easy again will let it heal for good.
@SummerSkier Great job getting out in the cold for your run today. Those masks looks "interesting." They remind me of the red light therapy masks....without the part that covers the eyes. I'm glad they work good. I'll have to check out the old lady running group on FB.

Did my mile Sunday Rest Day walk today between church and lunch. The cold weather is coming in. It was 40F (4.4C) when I got up this morning. It's now 30F (-1.1C). It's just going to keep dropping tonight and tomorrow's high is forecast to be 22F (-5.6C). I hope to hibernate until it warms up.7 -
No run today - Pilates instead.
Always consistent @quilteryoyo, well done.
Gently does it @tarun_yadavA, it’s really annoying being injured isn’t it?
A big kudos to all of you getting out and battling the freezing temperatures and icy conditions. Impressive dedication. Keep up the good work.
I’m laughing at the old runner chat. On the converse, at Pilates today I assumed I was with a bunch of women around my age, always ready to concede there are more younger than older than me in a class. But then I took a sneaky but thorough look at each of them and sadly concluded I was at least 30 years older than all of them. Fortunately I was able to hold up the aged lady side by demonstrating I was as strong, if not stronger, than any of them. Walking tomorrow may be painful 😂
I currently have five 11 year olds for a sleepover. Send positive thoughts and prayers.🙏 In better news, it’s very gently raining. My lawn may yet survive summer.7 -
God, 20 or so years older, not 30. They were in their 20s and a bunch of weaklings. I guess years of wrangling children and heaving things round the garden really does build your strength!6
-
Morning all.
Got it 5.0M at 10"41.
@ContraryMaryMary @SummerSkier @quilteryoyo thanks ladies 😊 feel a lot better this morning after icing it yesterday and a Narproxen with dinner before bed.
But will take it easy this week.
PS: 45 this year. OLD. 😔6 -

@WarmJellyfish here is what the mask is called. Not sure I am ready to go outside yet this morning at 20 feels like 14 but at least the wind is under 10 mph right now. I actually bought some trail shoes this morning because my normal runners my feet were getting chilled. Also saw on my facebook group a gal had put duct tape over her mesh shoes to block the wind and cold. Saw you there @quilteryoyo too. I am not a big participant but do lurk or see posts.

Oh, I know better than to drive on Tuesday!! I'm heading home on Monday before the real mess blows in. Looking at the weather forecast it's about the same temps in the hill country but we're going to get more snow in Houston!
I feel like usually the hill country gets more intense winter storms but aside from the cold, doesn't look like it's going to be too bad this time.6 -
Thanks @ContraryMaryMary . I hope you survived the sleepover! Way to show those young things what an "older" lady can do! Hope you can walk today.
I'm glad to see that your foot is feeling better @tarun_yadavA . AND, 45 is NOT old! Heck, I don't feel like 65 is OLD. It's all in the mind.
I saw that you commented on my post @SummerSkier . I'll have to get a feel for what most of the ladies post about there before participating too much. I was impressed with the 89 yo who completed a 5K over the weekend. Do you have any wool socks? That might help. I hate it when my feet get cold. I just can't get warmed back up once they do.
2 -
Happy Monday! I'm off today for MLK and I've been delaying my morning run. I'll get bundled up and head out before lunch I'm sure. I've been keeping up on the posts, but don't like posting much from my phone. I'll post my official numbers when I'm back on a computer.
The cold front came in Friday night, so I had a chilly 6+ mile run on Saturday morning and a colder 4 mile run yesterday... 7°F/-10°F WC. Temperature today is colder still, but not quite as windy. I've been wearing a new base layer shirt that has a hood and mask and it has kept me plenty warm, but I have a harder time breathing thru the material than I do with my balaclava, so I'll switch back to that for today.4 -
Hi everyone!
I took the weekend off to give my body a bit of time to fight off my cough. So far it’s only been getting worse. I still dragged myself to the gym this morning for a 10k on the treadmill. It felt a lot harder than it usually does, even though I stayed in zone 2 for almost the whole run. Fingers crossed I can get over it soon and back to running outside. Daily treadmill sessions are not really I envision, when I think of running, but at least I’m getting at it .
165.7/280 km for January.5 -
@quilteryoyo Sorry to hear about your gym! I hope you find a good alternative!
@ContraryMaryMary I hope you survived the night !
@WarmJellyfish If it’s warm out or if I’m already soaked OR if I need to clean mud off my running shoes, I like going through puddles. With an exception to the cleaning the shoes puddles, I also try to make a big splash . Your run sounds like it was fun!
@martaindale I hope you have a good drive back!
@tarun_yadavA Thumbs pressed over here that your foot issues resolve themselves quickly!!!!
@rusgolden That sounds cold!3 -
It was 7F this morning so after a 10 minute core workout, I got on the treadmill for 4 miles. I actually saw the grass on Sunday morning for a couple of hours before the rain changed over to snow. We just got a couple of inches this go around but 2 too many for me! Through work, I have a subscription to a fitness site called Wellbeats. I did a tempo run with one of the instructors. It was more an interval/speed play workout but it helped me pass the time. It was nice to have someone else watching the clock and telling me when to go faster/slower. I’ve been running in the evenings after work for the past couple of weeks and once I get home, eat, shower, and ready for the next day, I don’t find the time to post my runs here but I'm still reading and liking.
Welcome back @rusgolden!
Loving everyone’s photos!
Hope that foot is 100% better soon @tarun_yadavA. Were you here before @MobyCarp passed? He used to say once the injury feels like its better, give it another day.
Hope you are better soon @Mari33a and @Laurz9191.
7 -
Wow.
What do you hope to change?
What do you hope to keep?
What do you hope to accomplish?
What do you hope...?
I am going to circle back to the monthly questions after the shock settles that Shana passed last September. She welcomed so many of us into this group. I doubt I would have gone as far as I did without her spirit and support.
No running goal. I am in the pre-contemplation phase.

Welcome back @swenson19d.2
-
Doing great @rusgolden . I hope you enjoyed your day off.
Thanks @Laurz9191 I hope you feel better soon. Have you been to the doctor? The last time I had a cough that I couldn't get rid of I finally had my doctor prescribe the cough syrup with codeine in it so I could sleep. That really helped.
Great running @Teresa502 . We didn't get any snow here this time...just a dusting that didn't cause any issues. Just way too cold!
Welcome back @swenson19d . I've been wondering how you are doing.2
