I did another treadmill run this morning. The avg pace for the run was 11:51 min/mile. I did a slower quarter mile to start and ended slower. The middle was 4 x (5.5/4.0 for 5/1 min), which would have been about an 11:30 min/mile pace. I'm pleased that overall the pace was 11:51 min/mile and it didn't feel too bad. The last couple of minutes at 5.5 was a lot harder mentally than it was physically. Avg HR was 142 with a max of 165 bpm.5 -

What?!?! Shana Bereznay? I didn't know this either! I must have missed that.
I need to get those questions answered as well!

Well the last 2 days have been a bust for running with travelling. But I did managed to sneak in walks to the local markets.
Local Fruits porn time:
Longans and Rambutans
Chiku
Mandarin oranges
The best for last. The world's smelling fruit, also the most expensive delish delicacy. That is about USD25.
Durian.
The durian outside husk. Look at these babies

@SummerSkier awesome thanks. Also, when it comes to winter I switch to goretex shoes. Much warmer and drier.
@tarun_yadavA you're still a spring chicken. I'm already 60 and keeping at it. I have a goal to keep running and eventually winning age groups by default just for showing up.
@quilteryoyo you got a nice streak going there
@Laurz9191 puddles are fun! I also purposely go through streams as during a trail run race, invariably I'll get wet feet so I learnt to run with wet shoes. I don't wear goretex during races for this reason.
Last trail race I did in Sep 2024. Water got to hip/crotch deep in some parts.

Morning all
Got in 5.0M at 10"13.
Thanks @Teresa502 @quilteryoyo @Laurz9191 ... Feeling a lot better today
@Teresa502 - Mobycarp was before me. I think I stumbled across here... Gonna say June or July 2022. Before I went to South Africa. Cos I remember posting from there.
@WarmJellyfish never eaten Durian. Heard lots about it. Might not go 0-100mph to the fruit directly (unless I stumble across it in a breakfast buffet)... Might go flavour first like ice-cream.
Remember getting done with Prickly Pear (ominously called Tuna icecream) in Mexico. Vilest ice-cream ever5 -
Hi everyone,
This morningβs run went quite well for a treadmill run. After a 30 min warm up, I did 15x 1 min on, 15x 1 min recovery intervals. They were really fast and this part was brutal. After that I was supposed to do a 30 minute cool down, which somehow turned into 20.1km .
My cough seems to be getting better, but I will keep on treadmilling until I am sure my lungs can handle the frozen air. I donβt think Iβve ever spent this much time on the treadmill in my life. Itβs definitely and interesting (or completely uninteresting) challenge .
185.8/280km for January.
@WarmJellyfish Beautiful pictures of the fruit and your race scenery. Itβs hard for me to imagine that image as part of a race course!

Revised my training program. New program begins today.
Short walk, today. The Santa Ana Winds are back. Very windy, with occasional gusts from 70-100 mph. Full-sun, but I wore a windbreaker and neck gaiter (due to wind and ash).3 -

I went out for my run after I came home from the hill country. I was able to wait until the heat of the day, about 37 F. It was still pretty windy and a bit humid so it felt pretty cold but in a good way. The run went well.
Overnight it snowed. About 1.5-2 inches that stuck I'd say. It's pretty but I'm glad I don't have to be out in it. It's still below freezing but will warm up this afternoon so I'm not sure how much will be on the ground this evening. But then it will be wet on the coldest night we will have for this storm so I expect more icy roads tomorrow morning.5 -

Last cold day for now I think. Which probably means Hello Rain and Wind. Was running far too fast today and had to walk too often. Also, my muscles were so tight that I simple could not run continuously - that's part of my muscle condition. It seems to be affected by cold somehow. Anyway, was still fun.7 -

Nice run @Laurz9191 -- glad you are feeling better and sticking with the TM makes sense! Cold air always seems to aggravate a cough for me as well.
Today the temp was -10/-17F when I got up, so I opted for the treadmill at the gym since I was planning a strength workout anyway.6 -

I didn't post last night, so I am posting two runs. I ran 3.25 miles yesterday. It was so cold, and it was so tough. It was 18F feels like 12F. Have I mentioned that I hate winter? It is so hard to know how to dress. I was cold the whole time, but also a little too warm at the end. But also freezing. I really wasn't sure how much I would run today. If was even colder today at 17F feels like 5F. But it was a little easier run today. I managed to run 5.5 miles. Physically, I could have gone further, but it was just too dang cold.
@swenson19d It is so good to see you back!

Quick post after catching up on all 4 pages of updates⦠wow, you people have been BUSY!
Last week I was with my family at CenterParcs, and I got one proper 3-mile run in on the Monday morning: the rest of the week we were walking, swimming, playing badminton, indoor climbing, laser combatβ¦ and running beside the two granddaughters on their bikes. Iβm going to declare that a 5/5 week!
I got out for a 30-min run yesterday lunchtime, but I was in a rush and wasnβt properly warmed up (from sitting at my desk), so not a great plan: not only did I nearly twist an ankle, but late last night I could feel twinges in my piriformis (both sides). Ughh. Since Iβm off to Sierre Chevalier on Sunday for a week of skiing, Iβm going to rest up and and get some stretching in, so I look forward to joining in again in February

snow overnight but not the fun fluffy type you love to run in. More the icy pebbly slippery stuff with biting wind and chills in the 0's... not nice. But I did wait like @martaindale till it finally got over freezing and sneak a lunch run in. Still were some icy spots but the trail gortex shoes I had got for cold weather really held good traction and warmth.
haha if I had only known that I was .05 from 150 total for the month I might have taken a few more steps today

More weather stories: 1% to 2% humidity throughout San Diego County today. A local peak hit 102 mph wind gusts.
Saturday is forecast to be the first discernable precipitation since last May.
Other than being weird, bone dry, and dangerous...it 75 and beautiful.8 -

Hi everyone!
11.6km on the treadmill today for me. Itβs still below freezing outside in the morning, but I am itching to get back out there. I need to get a long run in this month and want to do it outside .

@rusgolden Shannon passed from Pancreatic cancer. They thought they had caught it early enough, and she fought really hard, but unfortunately it was too far along, as is usually the case with pancreatic cancer. We are all sad that she is no longer here. She was a big inspiration for us all.
I have no idea what some of that fruit is @WarmJellyfish . I lead a sheltered life. When you can't run, walking is a great alternative to keep moving. That's an "interesting" trail run. I would not have liked having to run the rest of the race with a wet lower half.
Great treadmill running @Laurz9191 .
Welcome home @chris_in_cal . Crazy weather.
Good luck with your new plan @SwimRunRepeat .
Nice run yesterday @martaindale . I hope it wasn't too icy this morning, or if it was that you were able to stay home.
You are an inspiration to get out there and do what you can @yirara .
Nice streaks going @rusgolden .
You did great @kgirlhart . When I do run in the cold, which is rarely, I feel like you...too cold, but sweat, and then colder. It's weird.
@AmunahSki Aww. Running with the granddaughters sounds like fun. Enjoy your ski trip. I look forward to hearing all about it.
Great running @martaindale and @SummerSkier . Hahaha about the few extra steps. There's always tomorrow.
Glad your foot is holding up @tarun_yadavA .

The cold fog is gone. It's windy and warmer again. I experimented with a new supplement and wonder whether it might have a hint of an effect: stiffer muscles, because they are so stiff that running just 1km is so tough. Will stop for now and try running again in a day or two.

Posting two sessions today. Yesterday, I got up early and did a treadmill run before heading into work. I purposefully went slower, hoping it would be easy, but not so much. I ran at 5.0-5.6/4.5/4.0 for 2/2/1 min. Avg pace was 12:40 min/mile. Avg HR was 121 with a max of 144 bpm.
Today, I was called into work, so didn't have time to do a workout before going in. I was able to get in a 1.5 mile walk between work and church.8 -

It was another cold morning, but a little less cold than Monday and Tuesday. I ran 5.25 miles. It was a good run. I didn't have time to go any further. It's just been so cold that I have a hard time getting up and getting outside. Once I do, it's not that bad, but getting out the door is sometimes a challenge. I hope that this cold blast will be over soon. At least we didn't have any ice or snow.

Good work everyone. I liked as many posts I could see.
@quilteryoyo just stay away from the durian. That smells like *kitten* but oh so delish π
This morning I tried to go for a run, but I was dead tired. Ended up walking just a km. Tropical enviros can be tough.
Late morning I managed to squeeze in a hill climb, finally! 4k and 130m in feels like 33 sweaty mugginess. I've been away from a tropical jungle too long and I semi-forget what it's like. Fed a few mosquitos along the way. Had some nice views at the top.
Coconuts!
The jungle takes back
The jungle can be dense
What the rest of Singapore mostly looks like
Cool apartment buildings
Tropical buds
Colonial cottage
Don't mess with these guys
Didn't see any monkeys tho but can I have one as a pet?

I ran 5.2 miles after work yesterday in the warmth of the sunshine and 28F rather than the -2F of the morning commute to work. Although winter is not over, I believe (and hope and pray) we are past the worst of this polar vortex and I can get back to my morning running routine next week.
Glad the snow and ice missed you @kgirlhart.
@WarmJellyfish β Running in those tropical conditions can be tortious! Stay hydrated and keep the photos coming! Those are some funky looking apartments. I bet they are oh so modern inside.

Another chilly 8 this morning but I am off work the next 2 days so I had the luxury of waiting for the sun to get up and the time to do more. Yesterday I did 7 plus 1 but I think my cardio recovery is better when I do not do 2 per days. I also hate stopping to adjust equipment while running so yesterday when it was REALLY cold and I felt that the tongue of my shoe and sock were bunched up on my left foot and pushing a little down on the top I chose to ignore it vs fix it. Of course today who has a bruise on the top of their foot. seriously. ALways impresses me how easily I can injure myself without trying. But just an annoyance and nothing which will be a problem. But a lesson that maybe I should force myself to stop and fix things..? π³π
And todays run was a neighborhood scenic route and I was really smiling to see a pileated woodpecker which had been chased across the street right in front of me by a mockingbird. Their red heads are so cool! Usually I hear them on the dead trees but have trouble spotting them. Had them nest in a neighbors tree one year but the dang starlings chased them out.
the tracker works for me altho I seem to have to start from scratch every time I go to the website.
