Nice running @kgirlhart . Sorry the watch is acting up again. I love tech, but not when it doesn't behave.
Thanks @Laurz9191 I think I have that lazy voice even on most short runs. LOL You are doing great to squash it. Hahaha about stopping your watch before checking on your phone. BTW, I hope your phone was okay.
Great running @Teresa502 . I'm really glad for the warmer temps. As for the old gym folks, I didn't get a chance to go back to the gym before it closed, once I found out it was, so I don't know where the others are going to wind up. I only know how to contact one of them. I am just wanting a personal trainer to tell me what to do and I felt like they had the best fit...at least from the website. The atmosphere was kind of interesting though. There weren't a whole lot of people there when I went in yesterday. Most were a little older and walking on the treadmill. And, I realized last night that everyone of them were holding onto the handles of the treadmill. I just thought that was odd. AND, it was so quiet. The old gym always had music playing. We all knew each other and would talk while we worked out. Not there. At least not the crew that was there yesterday. So, we shall see. (Sorry, that was probably way more information than you were looking for. )

quilteryoyo wrote: »Glad you made it home safely @WarmJellyfish . That is a huge drop in temps. My question is, how does it rain with the temps at -17C? (Friday night forecast) Better to sleep and not run if you are in danger of "running" red lights.
@Laurz9191 Thanks. Lol I have that voice all the time. I just try to ignore it. Most of the time it's in my head. But I'll know in the first hundred meters if the legs are really out of it. I'm going to try tonight! Will pick a route tonight with less traffic stops. If I run into a goose, beaver, deer, moose or bear, I might just think they are all stuffed animals and go for a hug...
@kgirlhart what watch are you using? Have you tried to reset it?
@Teresa502 lol it is already confused. Went from +30c to now 0c and my nose is running like mad....

My watch may have bricked this morning. I was setting up a walk for my morning commute. It gave me the searching gps screen then went black with a blue triangle outline that flashes off and on. It won't let me hard reset it either so I have to let the battery die then hope it reboots when I plug it in.
It's been working fine so I'm hopeful. Every time my watch gives out it seems to be right before I leave town for a race weekend. This watch has until Thursday. If it doesn't reboot or the battery doesn't die before then, I'm getting a new watch at the expo. So annoying.8 -

I did my run this morning because mom has a doctor's appointment this afternoon. It was NOT easy - so calling it very sneasy. I started out running at 5.0 mph, but just couldn't breath. I was huffing and puffing like I was sprinting. So, I did 2 x (5.0/4.0 for 2/1 min). The breathing got better, so did the rest of the first 2 miles at 5.0/4.0 for 3/1 min. My legs just didn't want to work today. I think tennis was harder on me than I thought it was. Anyway, after two miles, I really wanted to stop, but did another slower 1.5 miles (4.5/4.0 for 3/2 min). At least I got the miles in. Avg pace for the first 2 miles was 12:37 min/mile. Overall running pace was 13:10 min/mile. Avg HR was 119 with a max of 138 bpm. All things considered, I'm happy with that and glad I hung in there and ran slower rather than quitting.
Does anyone know John Marcus on Strava? He has requested to follow me, but I don't know who it is.3 -

I don't know any John Marcus on Strava, and I don't recall any posts from him in this thread, at-least for January. He IS following Jennifer L, Sarah M, and Laura MS on Strava, but none of them are following him back.4 -
@quilteryoyo I got an email saying a John Marcus is now following me and I never heard of him. Debating on whether to block since I don’t know him. Will wait to hear from this group if people know him3

You have a newish 265 right? That's rough timing.
Electronics are both cheap-ish and fragile-ish. They are helpful, fun, motivating, etc. and I want to have access. But boy oh boy I've been frustrated by how they do and don't work sometimes.

28.01 4.0km 32min 8:00/km - 400m/200m fast/slow
41.46km
So I started a running programme. This might not be the right one. Today it was meant to be 400m fast, 200m slow after a warmup. I can't quite run 400m yet, and the issue is that I'm running in an inner city where the gps signal isn't that great. Thus 400m fast might be 500m in reality, and I have the feeling that the counter stopped every time I ran too slow. Anyway, nice weather. I started doing strength training again and am still a bit sore, and got two travel vaccinations for a more adventurous trip later this year that were also still kicking in.5 -

@quilteryoyo Good luck with the new gym!
The Garmin edge I use on my bike sometimes doesn’t pick up the sensors on my bike and it drives me bonkers so I feel ur pain @kgirlhart and @martaindale. Hope it sorts itself out4 -

I ran a nice 7 miles this morning. It was 47°F. I wore shorts and a t-shirt. I did wear my fingerless gloves, but I was comfortably dressed. So much nicer than 27°F. I ran a little extra today. Being sick for several days and not running and then running shorter runs has put me kind of behind. We may also get some rain this week, so it is going to be tough to reach my goal this month. At least I didn't have any trouble with my watch today, but I did see the message on Garmin connect, and it sounds like I'm not the only one with glitches. I sure hope they get the issue resolved quickly. I especially hope it is resolved in time for your race this weekend @martaindale.

Hi all. Still hanging with a Jan streak.
This morning I did not have time for it but I chose to do 7 miles anyway. In the mist. I always have to remember that setting priorities for me is important. It took me working thru a factory closing years ago to understand that corp america does not care about individuals anymore just bottom line. 😏
Sorry about your gym and all the garmin issues this week. Usually that tech is more reliable than any of them.
Funny story about gyms and closings. Years and years ago I had joined a club in VA near by base called Spa Lady - for women. Then of course I ended up being posted to Abilene and having to move to Tx. While there I started doing aerobics classes every evening and looked for a small gym to work out. I ended up joining one which was free to me because the previous membership transferred. Little did I know that whole thing was a scam and after signing up a lot of folks and a few months one day we all arrived to find the doors locked, instructors locked out and not paid and all equipment gone. I think it actually is quite common for some of these smaller ones. Not @quilteryoyo that yours was a scam but it seems harsh they did not even say goodbye. Feels like the relationship you forged with the trainer was false.

Strength Training:
Monthly Goal: 12x
Jan total: 10x
Hey, hey, hey... I have reached my goal for the month!! It wasn't a lofty goal, but I really wasn't sure how many mid to long runs I would be able to get in, so it feels good to have reached that.
For yesterday's strength training workout, I went down to the small fitness center in the building where I work about 4:30. The TM was open, so I got my 1 mi run in and then started my strength workout... and then it was after 5 and about 10 more people came in to workout. I still had 2 lifts left, but didn't want to wait on equipment, so I cut it short... though I still 30 minutes, so I am counting it towards my goal. I plan on doing a body-weight workout tomorrow and a normal gym workout on Friday, so I think I might get to my 12x goal.
I hit the 90% milestone for my run this morning in Leawood KS, so I should be able to complete relatively soon.

@martaindale -- looks like @WarmJellyfish and @daria0919 have some insight into your issue, so hopefully you can get it going soon! I will say that Garmin has some of the best support/customer service I have ever used.
@Laurz9191 -- yes, I often hear that voice. However, if I have a planned route (especially if it is one that will get me more streets completed in a city I am working on), then I usually am able to stick to it. If it is just an out and back on a walk/bike path, then I am a little more tempted to cut it short. I used to have peeps in my local running club that were about my pace that I used to do a lot of my long runs with and I really miss that.
@quilteryoyo -- Good luck at the new gym and I haven't heard of John Marcus either. I don't recall, but is the MFP Strava group by request only, or can anyone join? Didn't know if that is where he was getting names of people to follow.5 -
Thanks everyone for your input on this John Marcus person.
You're doing great @SwimBikeRunRepeat .
I say, all things considered, you did fantastic @yirara .
Thanks @Mari33a ! Sorry you had a tough run, but you got it done anyway. I hope tomorrow will be better.
Nice 7 today @kgirlhart .
@SummerSkier I really don't think that was the issue with my gym. He did post on FB that he was closing, just supposed to be the end of the month. And, through a bit of investigation, I think it was brought on by a bad relationship breakup. I'm still his friend on Strava and he refunded everyone's Jan payments and stopped the auto withdrawals and payments, so he wasn't out to "steal" anyone's money. He had been there 5 years, so not that new, just new to me.
Whoo Hooo on meeting your monthly goal @rusgolden . That's a good question about the MFP group. I think it is by request only though.

Yes, I got it at the end of 2022, right before Dopey, so it's only a little over 2 years old.
@WarmJellyfish @daria0919 Thanks! That's exactly what's happening with mine. Looks like the battery died today so I'll have to deal with it when I get home tomorrow.4 -

Ugh. January has been a bust health and fitness-wise. I knew my running would be limited with my injury and trips away but my food has been off too. So much cheese. So much chocolate. So much of everything.
So, count me in on the food accountability too. Good day today, so as long as I behave myself, I’ll drop those extra couple of kilos in about three months 😬🤣.
School goes back next week so I shall return to regular running then (and hopefully find my calf/tendon thing has sorted itself).
That being said, I also have a half coming up on the 9th and I have no idea how much of it I can run. Yikes!8 -

I once had that conundrum. Luckily the cut off time was enough. I did short run/walk intervals. Got it done.3 -
4k in the evening. From hot to cold, only +5c, forgot how to dress lol. It was chilly. Legs were super stiff at the start, probably from being cramped up in planes for so long.6
