Last day of Jan and it shall be AF. @SurferGirl1982 yes there were times in my life where I was a daily drinker especially when I took jobs that involved a ton of stressful hours and travel away from home. I was blessed with the ability to really drink a lot and was good at pacing. I could manage bourbon, tequila and wine pretty well. I would not appear drunk or do anything stupid or get in trouble or anything like that. Alcohol never interfered with my day, my family, work, or my social life. I drank like "everybody else" but they too were addicted and drank daily. It was the thing to do. But it did interfere with my health and insidiously damaged my insides. And I got old, so I can't be drinking like that anymore.
@SurferGirl1982 so many times on here I would re-read my posts and try to figure myself out. It became clear to me that my thinking was disrupted and damaged by the alcohol and that was why I was delaying and making excuses and convincing myself that I wanted something else and I'd be going against what I really wanted to do. Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow comes and I'd say tomorrow again, and then you know, seven years goes by and they are gone and I look back and really, really regret not having jumped out of that fire sooner.9 -
@globalhiker - congratulations early on 5 months AF!!5

@globalhiker this is so powerful and advice we can all absorb. Congrats on FIVE MONTHS LESS alcohol in your life which was ZERO alcohol.6 -

Just a little success story for one night: I had already rearranged my food log for today and deleted my dinner and planned to buy a bottle of wine on the way home and drink it without going over my calories. I got inside the store, and the desire just left me. So, I got in my car and drove home and here I am at eating my healthy dinner and drinking my sparkling water and praising God because I HAVE been praying multiple times a day that He would remove my desire. Just a small testimony for today. Have a great night all!
This post was so inspirational. Our minds can take control if we way the consequences that will come later. Thanks for the share.5 -

AF 29
A 0
Great AF streak. hope you will be joining us again in February.4 -
AF - 29
A - 0
Exercise:
CrossFit classes attended - 15 of 16 goal
Meters rowed - 93,787 of 100,000
Taking a rest day today so have to trim back on snacks and such to stay within daily calorie budget.
Tomorrow I will achieve both exercise goals. Couple of more days to meet January goal of AF for the entire month...that along with 6 lbs or so weight loss (both very pleasant surprises to me!). It will be a little more challenging on all goals next month in February and an out-of-town trip planned but will make best of it.
Funny note - about mid-January I stopped off at liquor store that i have frequented for several years (on the route between work and home) and picked up a six-pack of NA beer. The people behind the counter made it seem like I alone kept them in business buying alcohol! Made me realize that I had been perhaps become to frequent a customer there!
My thought at beginning of January was that I would have more issues with cravings and opportunities (or any excuse whatsoever) to have a drink and it seemed like it was going to be a very long slog to get through the month...now at almost the end of January, the things that helped keep me on track was being diligent with tracking food intake and weighing out snacks and food. The NA beers certainly helped as well!! Plus making sure I was prepared every morning to make it to the 5AM workout class (I know - pretty early but it was too easy to find excuses not to go after work.) It was also too easy to miss class if I did not lay out my gear the night before - that warm bed on a cold morning just would not let me go!
And this discussion group has been critical as well...a little support goes a long way and being able to send support and encouragement to others has helped me too. So thanks to all and on to February!!
Exercise is a perfect detour from wanting to drink LESS. I always thought why put in all the effort and then ruin it by all that alcohol. That was a funny note about how you are supporting the liquor store solely with revenue. LOL4 -

Hubby and son off to an out of state powerlifting competition today for the weekend. Just us girls for the weekend. Definitely need to make bread today, and i should clean bathrooms this weekend. I really don’t want to clean bathrooms this weekend. We’ll see how I feel about that tomorrow, I guess.
Hubby goes shopping today… will the magic bottle appear today even though I’ve told him to not buy any?
Hoping maybe a magic bottle of an AF brand appears for you, Drop hubby a little note with some brands you want to try.3 -
Good job @chicbuc for making your mini goal of 3 AF days in a row! Enjoy your granddaughter this weekend!
@globalhiker such a powerful and wise personal message to wrap up our January thread. As always, thank you for sharing your journey and wow, 5 months is an incredible milestone.
@tmbg1 20 AF days for the month is outstanding! I bet you are feeling great.

Then, while making dinner I filled a fun ball jar with ice and sparkling water and added a splash of cherry juice to taste and a squeezed a wedge of lime.
Your AF drink sounds refreshing with the cherry juice splashed in. And I bet it made the drink very colorful. Have you tried flavored bitters?

AF again last night and will be tonight. Not 100% yet, and don’t want to be dehydrated. I’m going to offer to bring my LA white wine tomorrow- I don’t think my sinuses can handle red wine quite yet. I was in bed for most of yesterday and it was glorious! Just the rest that I needed!
@womona your sinus issue very well could be related to the red wine. Tannis and Sulfers affect us that are in wine.2 -

@NonnieDoiron I am beginning to think the bottle of wine from your hubby is an act of kindness, his love language for you.
Gifts!
@itladyee looking at your spoilers/tracking system, I see you are very mindful about logging how much and why! I love the diary style too.3 -
Accountability for myself- January 2025
Alcohol Free 31 out of 31
AF streak - 118 dayssince October 6 (thru all the major holidays)
Did start to fall back into adding sugar to my coffees around week 3.5, but nipped it in the bud again as of this morning, (PLUS I was too lazy to try and look where I HID the sugar bag)
Along with outdoor power walking, stability ball, and kick boxing vids this month I am adding an aquatic class Feb 3rd that I can attend every weekday for 1 hour. Woot Woot that ought to shake these Winter dull-drums.

I've decided not to announce my plans for now. Because it just makes me feel disappointed if I fail. But I do hope for today to be AF. I hope to be able to post an AF day tonight after 7pm.
PS...Congrats on 5 months!
I know how you feel on not announcing your plans, but try not to let it stop you. Honestly, some days knowing that I shared in this group that I did not plan on drinking that day was the only thing that stopped me FROM drinking that day...not always for sure, but some! Just know we're all here for you, and we're all cheering you on, and we're not judging you!
@globalhiker Congrats on your 5 months and thank you for all of your contributions here!

Goals for January - 85% Dry (AF = 26 A=5)
Monthly Stats - On Target If When I finish strong, the best I can do is 81% I will take 50/50 ~ Still a win!
AF = 16 ~ 52 %
A = 15 ~ 48 % (two days only 1 glass)
Current Streak - AF = 1
Longest Streak - AF = 7
1/31/25 included....
I did get my walk in....more like 2 miles than 3 but it was good and refreshing.
I had great intentions but it was very stressful last night. Throwing husband under bus... he has a habit of repeating himself and making a 5 minute story take 50 minutes along with the repetition. Some days I just can't.... and yesterday was one of them. He took a relative to the doctor, all good, but for whatever reason - white coat syndrome, maybe...her blood pressure was super high. The doctors would not let them leave until they got the blood pressure down. So he spent 3 hours at the appointment. Then once he got home, his sister texted to say their Mom has COVID. She's had her vaccines, and it's a mild case, so all is well, but of course, we will keep a close eye on her (she is 95). He hasn't seen her since a week ago Friday, now he thinks he has COVID..no rhyme, no reason....
It's like that Calgon commercial (ok, dating myself) but my version is Cabernet, take me away!! I've got to get better at dealing with stress. Luckily, the stress doesn't surface often.
Picking up my grandson in a bit. We have movie tickets for Mufasa tomorrow. Not sure who will be more excited!!
Generally speaking, I'm content with January. I think I would have fared better if there weren't so many parties and social obligations. But compared to Dec at 13% AF, I'm good. Off to prepare for a successful February.
@chicbuc ~ You are my idol! Way to go....
@Michieb125 ~ I do know what you mean about savoring an "expensive" wine. Good for you! Thank you re my tracking system. I like the details so I can reflect back and see my progress!!

YAY!!!!! He listened! No magical bottle appeared today!
Unfortunately, my MIL had to be taken by ambulance during dialysis to the ER because her blood pressure went up to 220 over something (I can't remember what she said), and they couldn't get it back down. I haven't heard from her or the hospital since she left, and I keep trying to call but no one answers. Weather is kind of crappy right now, and I don't see well at night in the rain. So, I'm waiting until she calls me to go pick her up before I head out. I don't want something to happen to me and leave my daughter in a bind.
@chicbuc As I said, he listed. And thank you, my son is pretty hyped up for tomorrow.
@MissMay I'm not much for drinking NA or AF drinks. I figure if I'm going to drink a cocktail, it's going to be a cocktail. I guess it's more of mental block for me. I really do ok with just drinking my water on AF nights. I think it's just the temporary high alcohol gives me that I'm actually after. But, I think I'm back on track now.
@Michieb125 You may be right. His love language has always been touch/intimacy. But since his cancer diagnosis, I think he's been trying to explore other ways. I didn't want to fight with him about it, but I wanted him to know I just need to not have it for a while. If it's in the house right now, I will drink it. So, I just need it to not be in the house for a while.
@SurferGirl1982 The deal is if I'm working, he's taking care of the shopping, bills, taking the kids to appointments, and taking care of his MIL. All the things I would naturally do if I wasn't working. It takes a great deal of stress off of me. Besides, he really does love shopping. I'm really appreciative that he listened today.3 -
Current:
AF days - 28
A days - 34 -
@NonnieDoiron Hope your mother in law gets well and glad he listened!
@eahrenee Wonderful stats! Will you be joining us for February?
@SurferGirl1982 Way to surf into February3 -
Happy February! Looking to "reframe" this month a bit. It's always been a party month with plenty of "much". Much has a price and I've always paid it. Looking forward to doing stuff a little different. I despise the word moderation, so therein lies the challenge!0
