Lisa, one day when I was doing the "old lady walk" on an icy patch, I considered the question of whether I was getting more timid in my old age and concluded that the older I get, the more experience and learning I get, and the more I know about the pitfalls of certain behaviours, thus I am more careful and less likely to do things that might be risky and result in injury.
Allie, I hope you have no trouble finding your 2021 income tax return. When my mother died in 1991, I found all her income tax returns dating back to 1935 when she first had to file.
Terri, Thanks for all your wonderful reminders that you posted in spoilers. They are useful not only to people newer to this journey but also to the rest of us. They remind me that I already have lots of good practices in place.

And .... yes I did do my roots! I don't know why I put up so much resistance! Very happy with it.
My olive branches arrived today. Fake ones. As per instructions, I've 'fluffed' them out and I think they look pretty good. They fill out my big vase in the window until it's the season for the bearded irises, then later it's dahlias. I got out the pink tulips, that I bought last year, yesterday. They look so good on the fire surround. They look the most realistic of any fake flowers I have, though most are pretty good.
I always have one vase of real flowers in the house, especially daffodils at this time of year, but the fake ones do lift a room.
Love to all. Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
When I walked the park yesterday, I noticed new groundhog holes all over. Didn’t see the critters but just the evidence. We have a lot of them here. Last year I sat with a couple watching the groundhog near their camper. It would poke its head out of the hole and grab a piece of green and drop back in the whole. I found what I thought would be tasty for the thing and put it right next to his hole. We all laughed as he proceeded to bend fold and tug that piece of green into his hole. So I can say I fed a wild groundhog! LOL
It got up to 83 degrees here yesterday and supposed to be a bit warmer today. We haven’t broke any records yet but are coming close. Nights are still really cold though.
I pick up my nebulizer tomorrow among other things we forgot Friday. We stumbled onto a ‘door buster’ sale at Sam’s club on Friday and we got some really awesome deals! We both were very happy with that shop. Usually, I get depressed after Sam’s because of the cost, but not this time! The sale is over today at our store. I don’t know if this is all over or just in my area, but I’ll take it!
Today’s though:
Did you hear about the kidnapping at school?
It’s fine now, he woke up!
Have a great day!

Heather - i honestly believe I truly was too independent and wanted things my way. I never really asked a lot of him.
Like your Mother though I understand the resentment. I’m trying to stay positive about it.
I suspect you may be a bit jealous, but immensely proud too.
Mo - at one time I would have agreed with you about the depression. I don’t feel that he is at all now. Even if he was he wouldn’t go talk to anyone or take anything. We’ve had that argument before.
Carla - sorry for your loss.
Lisa - There is a Canadian country group that sings a song called The Truck Got Stuck. It’s about how they have to use all the different vehicles to get unstuck. It’s quite funny.
Here is the video:
https://youtu.be/QCcWzLAcv4o?si=yBfpAiHhKN4Uml8g
On a serious note, I’m glad Corey got it out. As for his “stupid” feeling.
I overheard a conversation at work the other morning.
One of the dementia residents must have dropped or spilled something, she was saying, “I’m stupid”. The LPN leaned down to her and in the kindest, but firmest manner said, “you are not stupid, you are Helen”. The resident again tried to say she was stupid and the nurse again smiled and said no, you are Helen.
It made me smile all day.
Margaret - you handle things so well.
Debbie - The marriages I observed growing up were all either very gender specific or extremely independent women. I had a lot of truck drivers in my family and I so admired their wives and how they handled things. I thought it was a grand marriage, until Rodger drove truck. It was incredibly difficult.
Rodger can do pretty much anything, his mother didn’t care, he was made to do things. He also lived on his own for 4 or 5 years and kept a tidy house.
I want to say that 90% of the time the way things work around here works for me, it’s when something with vehicles, appliances, stuff that needs fixed and I have to deal and figure out it drives me insane.
Here’s one from this week. I ended up laughing about it because there is no sense getting upset.
When our fridge died and we got a new one, I tried to switch the way the doors open and it wouldn’t work. Without me asking or anything Rodger went to a local appliance centre and they told him I needed a kit to do it. The kit came in this week and he picked it up on Thursday.
I thanked him and at the same time said, I thought you would have switched it out. He said, he thought about it, but I had taken the doors apart so I would know how they go back together.
Last night I was changing it and had a piece left over. He said, the guy at the appliance store said that you could YouTube it if you needed help. 😂🤦🏻♀️
Lanette - I bet you would do well with the chickens and Rosie talking.
Pip and Lisa - I’m glad you were able to escape from those men. I have never been in that situation, but one of the most important people in my life was. He terrorized her for years after she left.
Up to early yesterday. Will catch up more over the day today.

Oh no, Allie! That's terrible. I'm sorry. What a horrible hassle. Good luck to you.
Thanks so much Michele, for that perspective. I don't know, maybe. No matter what, we'll be there... Maybe with our jerseys on. Who knows. LOL
OMGosh Machka, that menu is a TRIP!!! And I love that they allow it "for people with smaller appetites. So often I've felt belittled for asking for something off the kids menu. What a hoot. That's a place that knows it's customers.
Isn't Lisa amazing, Margaret! We watch her every night and she is always so happy and informative. I love her daily questions.

Ha! Thank you Tracey - Sent that to Cor. He'll love it.2

Carla - I don't miss those long drives in winter weather/snow/icy roads. Hope the weather settles down and roads are clear. Are you still doing Tai Chi? I need to resume it - my balance needs the training!
Vicki - any new job leads? When I read that the job you interviewed for would include training for bus driving, I thought if I had a person highly skilled in the office/phones, it would make better sense to keep them there and have them pick up other inside tasks they are better suited for. Hope your husband's recovery is coming along fine.
Barbie - smart thinking getting the shopping in before problematic weather set in. I've become a lot more careful scheduling shopping on days when there's no or little chance of slipping. I'm a lot more respectful of my safety, especially since if I'm injured the burden of taking care of Rosie and the hens might fall on someone else. And they might not do it "right", lol.
Beth - glad your surgery is over and isn't slowing you down. Good to have it overwith.
Lisa - good job on the 15 minutes of exercise each day. I think if it weren't for me having to log and report exercise minutes each week, I'd be more prone to skip it. For me, being accountable gets me up off my chair, especially in the winter.
Thoughts on House Walking -I did my after-breakfast house walk a few hours ago. To go from one end of the house to the other at a good clip takes one minute and is 110 steps. So 15 minutes after each meal - 45 minutes - is almost 5,000 steps. Some days I only do 30 minutes total. It's all good.
Over the years, I've tried a lot of Leslie Sansone's Walking videos. Some were fine, but many of them were too speedy for me, and some were confusing. She'd always say "if you can't do this or that, just walk walk walk!" Which was at least something.
Thing is, I'd have to set up a DVD player or put the laptop in a separate room so DH wouldn't be bothered by it. Turn the sound way down or off. Move furniture so I'd have enough room to go back and forth and sideways when I set up in the guest room.
So with house walking - I now just pick my easy path. Turn on the radio or not. Swing into the bathroom for a quick break or grab a drink of water and not have to turn off the DVD. If DH were still here, I'd probably interfere with his TV watching by walking through the living room, but he generally went outside several times each day for at least 15 minutes at a time, so this would have worked.
I recently read that keeping our thigh muscles strong is very beneficial in contributing to longevity. Helps us climb stairs. Helps us get up off the floor. Large muscles burn glucose even when we are resting. Walking keeps our thigh muscles strong.

Flea – if we could figure out if that guy in the play was trans or not, maybe we would have understood more of the play. We’re talking if he was playing the part of a trans person, not if he was trans or not. Perhaps you misunderstood what I meant when I said we couldn’t figure out if he was trans or not
Heather – it is so great that you have such a wonderful relationship with your grandchildren!
Lisa – like you and Cory, Vince and I work on different times, too. I’m the early bird, I like to get things done early and then rest and relax in the evening. On the other hand, Vince is the night owl, he gets things done either in the afternoon or the evening. It’s just a pain when he needs me to help him with something and he doesn’t do it until the evening when I want to relax. I’ve also seen the WalMart “shoppers” just grab any old item, I like to look at the expiration dates. The only problem I find with the kids menu is that almost everything is either deep fried or pasta or hamburgers or hot dogs.
Did Denise Austin Get Fit Fast DVD then a yoga DVD, then took my walk, then to WalMart. Maybe some other day I need to go to the other WalMart. Each store has different things. Like the one I went to today didn’t have any sugar snap pea stir fry and they don’t carry a small container of vitamins that I would like to take to FL. On the up side, tho, they don’t keep a lot of things (beauty supplies) locked up.
Oh yes, happy ground hog day. Seems he saw his shadow. I don’t care if we have more winter as long as we have it while I’m in FL. Glad he’s only right 39% of the time…:) Our cats haven’t lost their coats, either. Did you know that groundhog day was censored during WWII? Seems they didn’t want the enemy to know of the weather. I was reading an article that PETA wants there to be a vegan Groundhog (?) or an AI one, not an animal. To me, it’s all in fun.
Well, finished the jigsaw puzzle. What else would you expect Vince to give me? Next I want to work on this one about cats. I bought it at the Salvation Army even tho it wasn’t sealed, I just thought it was cute. Hope all the pieces are there.
Nothing more to report.

Got two important items in the mail so tomorrow if it's not too icy, I'll go to the Department of licensing and get the car put in my name only and take the check to the lawyer's office to pay him for his part in helping me sort things out.
We've had brief snow then hail then sunshine and midday temps warm enough to melt everything.

Husband a phone call from tax lady saying she received all the tax stuff we sent her. Husband and her had a nice long chat. When we ever get to the Oregon coast again she said we all need to meet for lunch.😁💖. Makes me miss my coastie friends!
I spent the weekend writing to 5 pen pals. Maybe about 20 pages of writing. I then made 10 new pages with the new washi tape I bought from Marketplace. Organized all my piles of stickers and put into small envelopes. It will easier to use them.
Today made pinto bean and hamhock soup for husband. I had a turkey, avocado, cheese and tomato sandwich. It was glorious!
My poor eldest sister was a mess this weekend. She's been organizing, selling things, and its put her into an emotional state. I told her going thru stuff is emotionally messy. It stirs up a lot of emotions and you need to take breaks, and regather yourself. I told her she is at the best place she could be, in a community that has embraced her and takes care of her in crisis times like when her truck had a tree fall on it in the middle of the night. Next day three guys came with chainsaws to help her. I personally think her husband that's passed had planned all of it, in his own way. I asked her if she has been drinking water (no), or ate lunch (again no) so I told her she needed to take a break and do those. Maybe watch a bit of mindless tv that night, and hit the hay early. I am so grateful she calls me on days she's feeling particularly fragile, and we can talk about things. Help her through the chaos she's feeling. It makes me feel helpful, and she does the same when I am having hard days.💖. I just love her.💖

Barbie - Thank you for a new month!
Rebecca - I really wish that we lived closer. I could give you so many fun things. It’s just too expensive to send anything in Canada these days.
Sue - happy belated birthday! My daughter’s work closed Monday and Tuesday because they can’t run the equipment in the cold weather we are experiencing.
Heather - I bet you and John will manage to keep those Grands through the teen years. When I was a teen I talked to one grandmother like I did a good friend. I ran away when I was 14 and ended up living with her. Funnily enough, we shared a driveway, but she promised me that if I didn’t want to speak to my parents she wouldn’t make me. She worked hard to help me rebuild that relationship with them. Basically I was very headstrong, opinionated and knew what I wanted and my parents were old, didn’t understand and wouldn’t give me what I wanted. 😂 In essence I was a brat.
All of that to say, I think you’ll be great at handling the teenage angst and be a refuge for them.
Machka - I wonder if the hearing loss contributes to dementia because it makes people isolate which in turn causes loneliness which also leads to dementia?
Your colouring looks like a painting! Beautiful work.
I love that Miley Cyrus song.
Kylia - your son in law is a mechanic isn’t he? Didn’t he leave because of work conditions? I can understand the nerves that it all goes well and the excitement that you have a young mechanic again.
Ginny - what are you shopping for?
Beth - I don’t know how people handle procedures awake. I am so squeamish.
When do you get results?
Groundhog Day - I don’t know where he originated but here it’s always at least 6 more weeks of Winter anyway. We’re just lucky if it’s not another 8-10 weeks.
Barbara - Day one went well. That desk is beautiful!
Margaret - Happy to read how fast you’re recovering from the fall.
Love the ice sculptures.
Carla - that’s a long drive, but I bet you’ll be glad you do it.
Rori - I have been getting to know our young neighbour. I think we would be much better off as a society if we had closer communities again.
Lisa - I’m happy you enjoyed the video. “Mighty neighborly, might neighbourly.”
Lanette - I agree with Leslie Sansone being energetic. I need to start doing her videos again.
Rebecca - so happy for you that you and your sister are there for one another.
We had our craft day yesterday. My girls and their friends, the Grands+ as Chase and Aspen joined. It was a fun day. I’ll catch up more tomorrow about it, because I’m very tired.

I certainly did misunderstand, Michelle. Sorry about that. When you said you were wondering about this "guy," I took it to be an actual person, not an actor.
Granted, I'm overly sensitive about these things right now. In general, I just wish people would let other people live their lives without obsessing (as so many seem to be doing.)
I did some house walking today, encouraged by the recent discussion. I was going to walk outside because it had been sunny, but just as I walked out the door, it clouded over and rained, so I bagged that idea. Hubby felt sorry for me, I guess, trapsing about the house, so we went to the mall and did more walking.
I found the house walking to be fairly challenging, since every 100 steps or so, I did a flight of stairs, either up or down.
Hubby heads up to Seattle tomorrow for his second week of work at the new job. So far, so good. He has promised himself not to work evenings or weekends, and so far, he's been successful.
Sorry for the losses some of you have suffered recently. I have been reading along, but don't always have much to say that hasn't already been said.
I am subscribed to your channel, Lisa, and I am enjoying your videos.

I woke up early this morning, and, instead of just lying there thinking about my last chapter, I decided to get writing it instead. I managed 350 words before 7 am, which is when I always get up to make a cup of tea and join John in bed for a chat.
Such a great feeling to have the day's work done early.
I have a Zoom this afternoon with my old schoolfriends, just at the time when the cleaner goes home. She had an operation on her neck last Tuesday, but she says she is feeling OK.
Your crafting day sounds great, Tracey! Do tell us about it when you've got your energy back.

Nothing wrong with pasta or hamburgers!! Those are two of my favourite meal groups.
In the summer we often have veggie burgers, with buns, which we serve with a platter of raw veggies to stack on our burgers. Raw veggies like tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, leek slices, cucumbers. Yum! Yum!
And pasta of all sorts ... macaroni and cheese done Scotland style or any type of pasta with pesto sauce and steamed veggies. Yum! Yum! Yum!
And grilled cheese is one of my favourite comfort foods. During the 100 days my husband was in the hospital with his brain injury, I ate grilled cheese a lot ... done the Canadian way.

Yes, I think the theory is that hearing loss isolates people, and being social is one way to make the brain work. For some, being social reduces depression as well.
I can see the effects of hearing loss in my father. He definitely needs a hearing aid to hear conversations, but doesn't always wear his for one reason or another. When he doesn't wear it, he ends up left out of the conversation ... and isolated.
My hearing loss is genetic ... could be from my father, could be from a line in my mother's side of the family. Eventually I will need a hearing aid, but I would like to approach it in the same way I approach my glasses. My vision isn't great (also genetic), so I got glasses when I was 10 years old. My hearing hasn't been great since some point in my 30s and is very gradually getting worse, when it gets to a certain point, I'll get the equipment to improve it.
Funny thing about Groundhog Day ...
It's not a thing at all here in Australia. If you were to ask people on the street about it, I bet most wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about.
Whoever organises the movies on TV doesn't have a clue either.
So, in amongst various Christmas movies in the couple weeks before Christmas, we almost always get Groundhog Day. They think it's a Christmas movie!!

Hello, dear friends and gentle people,
Almost awake - am about halfway through my one and only cup of coffee and listening to the washer do its thing... Trying to kind of frontload laundry into Monday, along with one other Saturday wash load for Corey's work clothes. They're far too greasy/grimy to wash with other clothes. And that's about as stressful as my week is going to get. Hopefully. Nothing else on the horizon, just shepherding our home lives along, making things and making videos.
Speaking of which... time to get my meds set up for the week, dishes put away, and get on with my day!
Love y'all,

Barbara ... let me correct my statement. The wire localization was done with a topical anesthetic ...but I was awake and jammed into a mammogram machine while the procedure was taking place. The removal of the "mass" ... located with the wire ... was then done under general anesthesia (asleep).
Allie ... I remember those days of giving baths in the middle of the night for sick little ones... poor baby.
Rebecca ... how very blessed you are to have a sister that you can count on.
Tracy ... my pathology results are expected within a week and will be reviewed in my follow-up appointment on the 13th.
Hearing loss/Dementia ... absolutely the two are related. Another one of those use it or lose it things. If you aren't hearing, your brain isn't working and it will eventually decline.
My mother slid out of her wheelchair (while trying to rearrange clothes in her closet ... something she shouldn't have been doing) and landed on her rear end ... bumped her head too. Facility conducted neuro checks every 15 minutes before allowing her to go to bed a few hours later. Other than being cranky and embarrassed, she was fine yesterday. I think the new wheelchair protector pad I bought was too slippery on the one side and may have contributed to the slide. Have purchased ones with a better gripping surface.
Discovered over the weekend that my computer was no longer being supported by Apple. I guess that happened in November. Anyways, the MacOS software was not operational with the new version of Turbo Tax software I had just purchased. Regular updates ... especially security updates ... are important to me so I ordered a new computer! Arriving tomorrow!
Have a great week.
