Dr. Katie, I am sorry you had to close your account. If criminals would spend their energy and talents doing legitimate work, could they make more money and have benefits instead of getting caught and going to jail? Just a thought.
Lisa, I was watching your video, but I believe Egg was trying to take the spotlight. I wish Corey had told me not to use more than seven words to make my point. Corey is very wise. I need to finish the one about finances. That is one thing about living in Mississippi: the cost is low compared to the other states. I love the Afgan you are making.
Tracey, I am so happy that they could reach their goal. I am sorry that the family is not updating you about your MIL. Rodger must be worried about his mom. Where are they in proximity to where you live? Is it 100's of miles away? As for Michaela, she sounds shy. She probably prefers to do her crafts at your home. I love your relationship with your granddaughter. Significantly, you two can bond through art. I wish I had that relationship with my grandmothers. My maternal grandmother would be my laughing buddy. The other taught me about life and good food. My kids loved my mom, but then the dementia set in. My MIL was tough on them.
Kim, Lanette, and Flea, I am not a fan of Elon Musk, so I no longer use Twitter or X. It was getting too stressful. I am not putting my head in the sand, either. We are headed for a significant recession, so I will follow Lisa's advice on YouTube, try to be more frugal, and pay off debt. I agree that I don't want to discuss politics here. However, I am curious how healthcare is handled in other countries like Canada, England, and Ireland.
Machka, my DD, had a best friend, Violet, who would cry if people laughed around her. I am a laugher. I used to go out with my ex-boyfriend to the Comedy Magic Club. I would laugh so hard that the comedian would say he needs me on the road for his confidence. Then my ex was mad at me for embarrassing him by laughing so loudly. Now I don't go to those comedy places. DH wants to go, but my ex was so mean about it that it triggered me. Growing up, my dad would have us rolling with laughter at the table. When my uncle was in town, it was worse. Our stomachs would be hurting from laughing. I didn't trust the kids at school laughing, either. I was bullied at school as well. I was beaten up on the bus at a private school. It was much better in public school. There was a group that didn't like me because of the way I spoke. And would question if I was "Black" enough. They didn't like that I was a student body officer or in the academic society. So when my son said he didn't think he would fit in a particular school, I put him in a culturally diverse school. I threatened DD's bully by telling her that bullying was not tolerated at the school and that she could be expelled. I married a nerd, I am a nerd, and so is DS.
I better jump in the shower now. I did 45 minutes of step aerobics. I was going to walk tomorrow since the weather is warm, but we are expecting rain. I hope I can walk soon before the cold snap comes.

Machka's favourite foods (mains) ...
Mexican and Indian (mild to medium hot) are about tie for top place.
Pasta of all sorts. I love the cream sauces but my digestive system does not. So pesto is my second favourite and better than the cream sauces. Tomato based sauces aren't too bad. Veggies with the pasta are very good but no seafood or mushrooms, and very little meat.
Then things like pizza and hamburgers (but not fast food hamburgers). And preferably veggie burgers.
That's pretty much what we eat.
Incidentally, I've lost 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs) since Christmas.

Regarding slow thinkers and talkers ... be careful to not judge a book by its cover.
First, throughout all the education I have acquired over the years, I have done well. Several times I've been on the honour role. But if I'm suddenly presented with something, I will usually take my time before responding ... I'll let you talk, and when you start to wind down or say something like, "What do you think", I may say, "let me think about it" or "that's an idea" or if I'm kind of interested but think it may be possible that this new idea might overlap an existing idea, I'll start firing off questions. Some people interpret those questions that I hate the idea ... I don't hate it, I'm just trying to determine how it might fit.
I do not like being pressured into responding right away. If it is important, I want to give it some thought, do some research, give it due consideration. Just because I may be slow to respond does not mean I'm "slow".
Fortunately, where I work, others do the same sort of thing as I do and we give each other space and time. Most of us are the quiet, introverted, geek/nerd types most of the time.
Fortunately, others are good at working in groups where ideas are bounced off each other and exchanged quickly ... like maybe public relations, sales, marketing, etc.
Second, my husband's accident, he will often respond slowly because one of the side effects of the brain injury is aphasia. Unfortunately, there's nothing he can do about it ... and it's worse when he's tired or when someone is pushing him to talk faster.
I admit, occasionally I still get frustrated, but I can just be patient ... he gets frustrated because he can't come up with the words.
The point is that fortunately, the world is made up of a lot of different people ... and patience and kindness go a long way.

Tracey-great news on the go fund me. I have given up trying to explain families. Hope you get information regarding MIL soon.
My family has always been laughers. My DH and sons used to say I had no sense of humor-other people tend to disagree with the. Laughter, like tears, are an important part of our emotional balance. I prefer the laughter over tears, but tears can be cathartic and help us heal.
Trip went well. Meetings had good content. Had dinner with friends and we did shop. Picked up a top I really like that will be good for this spring (I am lacking some of those for work). Old Navy had a pair of jeans I like on sale for 12.00. Got a Kipliger Cross body that has a fanny pack strap sewn in that converts to waist pouch-very good for travel. Got a couple of different teas in canisters. Also got a new jacket that is waterproof with light fleece that will be good for spring walks. I have a coat/jacket for almost any weather condition.
Going into office for a few hours this morning then taking brother and his wife to he psych appointment. We are driving a non-highway route so my SIL is familiar with it. She doesn't like the highways but she could drive the slightly longer country roads if one of us can't take them. We are meeting up with other brother and wife for late lunch/early dinner at Olive Gardent. I will eat light-too much good food already this week!

Woke up too early, couldn't go back to sleep, but might curl up later if I choose.
Kim - Thank you. Found myself at a loss about what to say, but I thought you said it in a very kind and lovely way. This IS my tribe, and part of that is because it's safe from the toxic waves of communication swirling in that public world. I'm grateful that it stays this way.
Tracey - So many, many good thoughts coming their way for your daughter and son-in-law for success in their quest. It is so stirring to me, that people love them so much, even people they've never met.
Mo - Don't sweat the pics, baby girl, they only show up huge on computers, not so much on phones or tablets. And you can always size down a browser page if needed on a computer. Love the pics of you and Baby Suko. You both have beautiful sunny smiles.
Machka - Speaking of smiles, I love yours - and in the written language, I tend toward dry humor myself. Something that takes a moment's thought, that's witty, instead of the current trend toward cringe and awkwardness as comedy. That's just bullying turned inside out, in my humble opinion, and I don't find most comedy written recently to be very funny, if at all.
I woke up because it was still on my mind that I've misplaced the logo patches that Kim helped me get created. I can also get quite obsessed about finding something I've lost, and it's like some kind of infinite loop that just circles back to "Where are they?" Considering the reorganizations of this room, you would think I would be able to find almost anything quite quickly, but I haven't seen them in almost a year, and cannot imagine what I might have done with them. So... I have to tear this room apart and see if I can find them, as they were not inexpensive.
That's pretty much my ambition for today, with a break to use the seam ripper to unpick the handles I put on the bag I'm working on, and reset those. My ability to think about things that are impacted by length, width and heighth disappears at the end of the afternoon, and I know that, but I put them on anyway. I'm not sure if there's a name for dyslexia into the third dimension, but whatever it is, I've got it.
Ah well. There are worse things.
Need to run to the store quickly to get some things Corey needs, as well...

Okie - Thanks for the reminder. For those who are new, you can find it at https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/123702-women-ages-50. It isn't a public group, but you can request membership there if you don't already have it. It is not a "safe place," but a place to have pointedly political and/or religious discussions and comments. It was created many years ago, and it gets intermittent traffic from the ladies on this thread, mostly.
And to both Lanette and Flea, no harm done at all, dear hearts, I just couldn't come up with any response that didn't sound political in return, so stayed silent.
And I found my logo patches! Woot! In a place that made perfect sense, where I had completely forgotten I put them. Whew! It's like having a headache finally release after a couple days of having that slamming at my tidy little psyche. Lordie. But I also found something else I had put in that same place that I searched for half-heartedly some months back. Gave up on it because it wasn't as important.
And, as I was going, got some decluttering done, of things I don't and won't use.
Knitting, by the way, makes little sense to someone who has crocheted for literally 50 years - I'm learning it, I am, but I find myself wondering why as I rip out yet another effort and start again. I am an impatient little git.
Love y'all so much - you make me happy just by being here.

Last night a group of women from church met at my house to discuss a book that we have been reading. I set out snacks and they literally did not eat a single thing. Not a single thing! And I even put out healthy options. My husband and son enjoyed it all, but next month there will be no snacks. I'm not sure these girls are "my people."
My computer arrived and today I am going to open up the box! It should be an easy process to get going on the new one ... but you never know. Also plan to visit my mom. She had me find and purchase pink nail polish with "glitter" and she wants her nails done. Some of the aides in the facility have crazy nails and she will not be outdone! She also asked me if I thought the shoes that the aides wear that "look like bread" would be a good idea. These turned out to be Crocs and, no, I didn't think she would like them or do well with them. She is a character.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a "stick" vacuum like a Dyson (but cheaper!) I've been tracking in a lot of birdseed onto the rug inside the back door, so I got out the Hoover PetMax that Collette uses. It was hard on my back just those couple minutes. I saw DH has a "Dust Buster" squirreled away in the shop. I will give that a try. T suggested a stick vacuum might work too.
Substitute "egg" for "tomato" and "chicken" for "garden" below

Beth ~ I love reading about your mom! I think it’s wonderful that she notices the people who work in her assisted living facility and wants to imitate them. Mine passed away 8 yrs ago and I thought about her as I laid in bed this morning.
Lisa and Others ~ I have NEVER knitted or crocheted and have no desire to learn. But, I sure did a lot of sewing for many, many years. Glad you found your logos.
Lanette ~ I have a Black and Decker stick vac does a fairly good job and is cheap (around $100 +). I got a Shark stick vac and ended up sending it back for some reason I can't remember.

Excellent, Kim.
Was awake for at least 3 hours last night. No reason. Just awake. I read my Elizabeth Taylor, (no, not that one), on my Kindle, and, in the end, resorted to Clutterbug to soothe me. It worked.
I've just had an hour's nap this pm. I have no idea why I get those nights every so often. It hasn't happened for a long while.
I was so proud of John yesterday, for coming home with a thrifted tooth mug from the charity shop! He never does things like that, but he was looking for white china for the girls to paint, as I said I was keeping an eye out for some. The mug says, Bain de Paris, in old script, and has an old fashioned bath on it.
As it happens, I have purchased some white ceramic tea light holders from Amazon, which should be arriving in the next hour. They are in the shape of skulls, so should be fine for all three to paint. I've also bought some battery tea lights. Don't want them setting fire to anything!
This morning I couldn't think of anything I wanted to eat for dinner. It had to go with broccoli, as that was all the veg we had in the fridge. Then I thought of Tandoori Chicken, which we haven't had in months! So it's marinating in the fridge now. Waitrose brought the chicken thighs at lunch time. Looking forward to it already.
Long chat with G this morning. Her horrible Bullous Pemphigoid seems to be returning, now that she is reducing the steroids. We discussed options, and I persuaded her to email her consultant. The first suggested line of treatment has lots of side effects, so she sent me a long and learned paper about the trials using the 'mabs'. Looks promising, but they are expensive, so they may be reluctant. My son is on them for his Psoriasis/Arthritis. She got the paper from B's husband, who is a retired, high powered doctor. I think Lisa was on them some time ago.
Anyway, it is a horrid, autoimmune disease, so she is worried and depressed about it.

Lanette - I bought one of the Dyson stick vacuum Chinese clones when they came down under $100 two years ago now and donated two other stick vacs that were just pitiful. This converts from stick vac to dust buster type quite easily (and they're down to $73 now, see below). If you want it to do much more than a few square yards, no, I wouldn't buy one, but if you're just using it for small areas, it works fine. It will take down the visible pet hair in a larger area, but not the deep down stuff like an electric vac. Never used a Dyson, so dunno on that comparison.
I use mine for being able to vacuum edges and baseboards without bending, and to vacuum spider webs without climbing, as I just use the adjustable long stick, and for small cleanups, mostly - it will pick up kitty litter that's been strewn around by you-know-who. My only real crank about it is that I do NOT like the fact that it won't stand on its own, you have to lay it down if you need to do something else with both hands. Can't even lean it on something, really...

Didn't sleep well at all..have a scratchy throat and today im going to hop in the shower..
Im hemming and hawing about letting Tom and Elena keep Alfie.. he gets so much more exercise and all with them ,than with me.. I want him to enjoy being a dog and not just hanging around the house with me..
I can have him when they go on vacation and im sure it will work...

Life of Pi was amazing at theater last night! Pi (actor) was actually from our area and was amazing! The puppetry was amazing. It has been the best show I have seen there in two years!

Went to dermatologist yesterday morning. Yes, I have rosecea. I have a prescription cream being shipped. She gave me a list of triggers, but also said if I avoided them all my life would be very boring! She wasn't kidding. In the meantime, good moisturizer that has no alcohol and non-clogging. I still dont need any blush, but not as stingy.
Found out this morning when SIL heard my truck fire up early, that I read her text wrong. She probably didn't even try to change date for babysitting for today. She did change it for the 19th. Too bad she now has to pay for 2 classes because she didn't pay attention. Even if i had changed on Monday, it was too late for refund. I just shake my head.
Beth How rude to not partake of snacks provided-in my opinion. A hostess makes an effort, the guest surely could find something to nibble on! Not saying they have to fill up, but you went to trouble for them. I agree, no snacks next time! Your mom sounds sweet.
Lisa I hate when I lose something that i know i just sat down! Glad you were able to locate.
Lanette Love the egg and chicken! Same to Rita's thought for the day on the egg and chicken. That is why I don't feel guilty paying more for small farm eggs!

Lisa - thank you, that looks good. And it has a brush head! I tried DH's "dust buster" and it got up about 50% of the bird seed but the stuff that's embedded definitely needs a brush. I'll check it out.

Flea – don’t worry about the misunderstanding. We all do it. I tell you, I have these friends who are trans. They are the most wonderful people on the face of this earth. I’m so blessed to have them as friends.
Just found out thru Facebook that one of the ladies at the condo is having hip replacement surgery. She’s a real nice lady but she is 90 years old. At that age to go thru major surgery…. Well, she’s a fighter so we shall see…. I just hope for the best. Going to take a walk in a few and while I’m on my walk I may call this one gal at the condo who is somewhat close to this lady (they both live in Ohio) and see if she knows anything more. Update: called and had to leave a message.
M – I’m not a big pasta eater and I can’t remember the last time I had a hamburger! I’d rather order a larger meal and take ½ of it home with me
Going to Jess’ this weekend to see Dream Theatre in concert. Should be interesting. Anyway, last time we were there I made these cake batter cookies and Colby really liked them so I made some for him and I’ll give some to one of the mgrs. At BK for her sons. No I normally just do the Christmas cards as I do use some of the writing, and bits of the fronts of cards as cut outs and tape to my Christmas cards. But thanks for asking!
I don't really go crazy on my pen pal letters. Just stickers and washi tape. Plus my envelopes are so colorful anyways from using calendar pages.💖

So regarding laughter: I lived with two comedians in the 1980's in an old historic house near Lloyd Center in Portland Oregon. I tell people I was their test subject.😂💖. Google Art Krug and Susan Rice. Both hilarious, fairly clean humor. Art taught me to juggle, as he used to start out his routine juggling. Of course back then you would have labeled me as a comedy Open Mic groupie. There was a lot of booze and smoking funny cigarettes after the gigs and sometimes I partook. That was my life in the 80's. I was an installment loans file clerk at a bank. I remember still being under the "influence" and trying to do my job. Nothing like filing and organizing the same blasted file all day!😂😂. It was a crazy time, and the comedy scene was jumping! I can watch a comedian and die laughing and my husband can just be watching plainfaced. I'm like, what's wrong with you! My eldest and I watch weird anime series together and laugh until we cry. He is my people. My youngest has an odd sense of humor as well. My middle son has been brainwashed by his wife, and now I play funny comedians for him and I get no response. Uugh!😂

we have finally gotten a break in the rain- sunny but cool for today-48 right now- rain and just 47 tomorrow. Thankfully that is supposed to be the end of the rain. Let the waters start to reseed. The roads all around mom are flooded. Thankfully she has plenty of wood to keep her warm, gas stove in case the power goes out and lots of food on hand. I will be up there on Friday evening for the weekend. Hope to go through the seeds and see what we need to order.
Dh will get to do all the chores here at home-I know he will complain about it when I get home, oh well- need to appreciate all I do when I am here. I go see mom one weekend a month right now- will be doing more soon, as she is starting to need more help.
Going over to walk the dog now- Last night, he refused to even go outside at all either for a walk or just in the back yard- it was raining too hard.

Medical rant - Skip it if you like, writing it down just makes me feel better:Trying to calm down after an angry crying jag (alone, for a change). Still feel the lump in my throat and the threatening tears, which REALLY ticks me off.
The doctors at the nearest large orthopedic facility won't take my case at all, as "it could involve a revision," of the knee surgery done six years ago now by a different facility in town. The ones I went to today (the only ones left that are within a reasonable drive) won't touch me with a ten foot pole. They suggest I drive two hours north (still not up to that) to a doctor who does revisions. By the way, my records STILL HAVE NOT ARRIVED. They're saying this without even knowing what's up, in any way - the only thing they know is that I've had a knee replacement.
Frustration is... an understatement. So I went back to the VA, asked for a change in referral back to the original doctor who did the surgery. This is the same doctor I went to a year ago who had a nuclear bone scan done and then basically said, "oh well," shrugged and did nothing. Time to stop playing games. He either comes up with something to diminish the pain, whether it's a shot or whatever, or the next steps won't be pleasant for anyone.
I'm tired, and in pain, and I hate this mess.
I need a cracker and some cheese. It's the healthiest thing I can think of at the moment. Meatballs and sauce in the slow cooker, pasta for dinner.

I had Mac and Cheese yesterday for dinner. Mine looks like the Scottish one in the skillet. I braise cauliflower and broccoli, and boil the macaroni,. I make a cheese sauce while they are cooking, then add mix all of them together in a casserole dish. Yesterday I added some chicken from our Sunday roast, and braised leeks. Topped it with grated cheese, then baked in the oven until the cheese was golden brown. Very tasty. It covers all three macros.
