I had a nice chat with my sister yesterday evening. I have another queen sized quilt upstairs that she made. It says "to the Gossetts love Pam" on a sewn in label on the right bottom corner. I think what is so amazing is the amount of time she's put into each thing. I have a knitted blanket that my maternal grandmother would knit now and then. It was leftover yarn so multicolored lines of various yarns. I remember her knitting it, and it was so pretty. So what do I get for my wedding present? You guessed it, the blanket. Its still going strong, though some shrinkage here and there, and some of the yarn has those little balls on it. We used it Renaissance camping. But the memory of her knitting it rushes in every time I use it. That's the same with this pillow, as I was visiting many times she would work on it nightly. There are 3 birds on the front. My first thought "us three sisters", but also, " my three boys". So extra special there. 💖.
Its cold (25') but blue skies today. Nice to look at, (from inside sipping coffee). The sun shone in the kitchen this morning, so I glance at the counters shooing crumbs into the sink because my dear husband never bothers. He had steak and eggs this morning, so there was a sprinkling of grease blobs, crumbs, and the sun showed me this.😂😂. So, before even fixing my first cuppa I was wiping down the counters and cook top with a sudsy scrubber sponge.😁👍🏼.
We got the "Oh F#&k I'm Dead" workbook in the mail last week. So husband worked on it first, writing info to do after he passes, where stuff is etc, and I came in after and filled in my specifics. Its definitely thorough, with lots of different segments. The letters of regret, the contact info, and how the funerals should go were all blank, as we both don't want much fanfair. His ashes are going to be sent to the Navy, and my ashes thrown into the sea at a beach of the boys choosing. No big funeral. Its presently locked away and we'll give the middle son a copy of the key. I think I will look at it yearly and make any changes (passwords, acct numbers etc) but generally speaking it was painless.
Well my oven cleaning gal has yet to come. Twice she's bailed. First was being sick, and second was snow. I did mention that the roads were bone dry so if she had to drive out in them in an emergency, there's no problem. She was in an accident on the Deception Pass bridge many years ago and she still has nightmares from it, so there's more to it then snow on the road. I told her my oven isn't going anywhere so when the snow melts give me a call. My (trauma) was cleaning my oven at the other rental and moving the heating element up and hearing the electrical connection pop and spark. Heck my previous oven had a moving element option so you could move it up to clean under! I had figured all ovens did that. Nope! So I told husband I am paying someone to do this! Everyone has their limits. I have a handful of them.
(Not in any order of importance)
1. Me driving. Ain't happening!
2. Bats
3. Spiders hanging above me. Once they are low, or on the floor, they can be flip-flopped.
4. Cleaning ovens
5. Bees
6. Mice or squirrels in walls.
So lots really. I think if I lived in an environment like my eldest sister does, I would be freaking out 24/7. She buys those sticker traps for the furnace room next to the carport, and gets voles, mice etc all the time! She has her large freezer, canning stuff, so she uses that room a lot. Me? I make her go in the room! During the summer as I would sit outside, around her umbrella table with chairs you see lots of black things darting and flying around at dusk. Its all of her bats from her barn. They swoop and then are gone. They do swirl around the carport for a moment. But seeing them outside its not so scary, but in a house, they petrify me!

Happy Friday!
It's a beautiful day here near Buffalo. Cold, but the sun is shining ... and spotlighting all the cobwebs. Husband decided to make us blueberry pancakes for breakfast. I rarely eat in the morning, but I wanted to appreciate his efforts. They were very good! We plan to take a road trip next week to a seasonal Maple Farm that has a restaurant where you can eat all you want buckwheat pancakes. It will be a fun day.
The dentist visit was pricey. Cleaning, X-rays, exam and a new filling for a broken one was $577. And I need a new crown ... which will be $1460 in two weeks. We don't have dental insurance anymore ... and it wasn't very good even when we did have it ... but I budget money each month for dental expenses and have a sizable amount available for these repairs. Good thing.
I couldn't figure out the clutter bug differences. I hate all clutter and like clean surfaces ... but in reality need to have some things out on a regular basis. My husband makes piles of stuff. When I get fed up with his piles, I gather them all together and put them in a box or bag for him to sort through. I try to follow a 15 minute decluttering schedule. I'm behind this year but will catch up when they're working on things that don't apply to me.
Have a great weekend!

I keep forgetting - today is exactly one month of exercising every day 10-15 minutes a day. Very happy with that. It's been a long time... but I so badly did not want to break my streak that I did my exercising in the living room while Corey was cooking dinner Wednesday night. Proud of my bad self! 😂7

Awesome sauce! You are doing so great! I seem to be averaging 1 to 2 times a week, but since the snow, nothing.🙄
This new quilt has a felt fabric backing so really nice and warm. I just had a grin on my face all day like a happy puppy.
My sister told me the pattern was created by a quilt author/friend and it came with a jelly roll fabrics created by her. So cool.

Worked then got my oil changed, then got the new tires, then went to WalMart. Now home, think I’ll go for my walk in a few
katie – I’m so glad your daughter is OK physically
Warm today. Walked down to the dollar store to get a Get Well card for the lady at the condo. Then stopped at Food Lion since I had $4 off that I needed to use by Feb.21 and we won’t e here then. So I got 3 boxes of cake mix for cookies for Colby for 51 cents
Mo – yes, I do the DVD’s in FL. I can use the Y down there (the condo doesn’t have a fitness center) and I have a portable DVD player. Which reminds me, I need to check their schedule to be sure that I can still use the spin room for exercise. See, it’s away from everyone and I can concentrate on my exercise.
I think I’m a cricket
Tracey – so sad about Rodger’s mom
Friday here: worked got out early so prebowled. I probably would have been better off had they put me in blind, but at least I didn’t get gutter ball after gutter after gutter. That can be so frustrating. When we go Mon I told my neighbor that I’d bring cheese & crackers if she’ll take home any extra cheese since we’ll be leaving Wed. See, she works catering with the gal who runs the bowling and the gal told S that no one signed up to bring cheese and crackers or fruit. If I know S, she’d bring both. So I offered to bring the cheese. Seems there was a sign-up sheet near the drinks. Well, neither of us goes there so we didn’t even see it
Had BLT, chips and dessert at the soup kitchen. Just had a bit of the tomato
pip – what fine looking t-shirt, jersey and medal. You deserve them. Yea for the jersey’s fitting
Rebecca – that pillow took my breath away. Everything is so so lovely
Washing my coat that I wear to BK. I am hoping that I won’t need it any more. Pretty warm today so hopefully I only need my vest.
Kylia – it’s nice to hear that I’m not the only one who was told not to holy underwear because you never know when you’ll have to go to the hospital...lol. Congrats on still being nicotine free
Vince just ordered his Daytona tickets for NEXT YEAR.
Annie – I certainly hope all is OK by you and you’re just busy
Lanette – what I don’t like is when someone copies the entire post only to answer one little part. But I know also that this isn’t always possible (to just copy the part you are referring to)
Beth – ever since Vince retired, we don’t have dental insurance, either. What a total bummer! It was pretty good when he was working, tho
I’m definitely more of a minimalist. If you leave it to Vince, he’d probably keep everything. Me? If I haven’t used it in a while, I probably don’t need it so it gets donated or given to someone else. Or even sold
Lisa – woo hoo for all your exercise. I usually go to the gym on Wed, do a DVD at home on Sun, but try to take a walk around the block each day. We’re going to Jess’ tomorrow overnight and I’ll probably take her dog for a walk. I bet when he sees me he thinks “not her again, here we go on long walks”...lol
Speaking of walk...off to my walk now.

Kim and Lisa - I have an old Fire tablet, which is probably different than what most of you use and it doesn't have a lot of storage capacity. Maybe that's why it's not good at opening spoilers or seeing large files. I always just use the laptop if with a large screen & mouse for most of my work.
Lisa thanks for the spoiler tips, I'll keep them in mind if I get a new tablet someday. GREAT job on the exercise!
Kim - D told me at lunch today she has been working with both an attorney and a CPA in Utah trying to find ways around dealing with the proceeds from the IRA. It sounds like Utah will take a chunk right off the bat and when what's left gets divided up among the dead brother's 4 siblings, that portion will also get taxed. She said the CPA did give her some good advice which will save a bit of $$. It was hard for me to keep it all straight, but appeared that had the brother named a beneficiary/s on that IRA, the $$ would have gone directly to them. As I believe it works in WA State.
My DH had a small school pension that I inherited, and I take a small percentage each year as an RMD. I need to have it exhausted in 10 years (I have 8 years left.) So minimal tax hit.
Hard to keep up with it all, that's for sure.

I will work out in the am instead. Okay, it is 12:01 am central time, so good morning. This is my last post for this week.
Your post this week was thought-provoking, as usual. I guess I better send out a text to gather my friends. My friend in the "Mom group" told me it was time. I feel she could have done it. When I move, who will take over? One of the things listed in Machka's or Terri's post was the importance of socializing with others in person to prevent dementia. I will do what I can to prevent dementia. Besides, I worry about my friend Bonnie. Her mom had Alzheimer's, and her DH asked for a divorce after 35 years of marriage when her youngest of 4 was about to graduate from high school. She worked hard to put her DH through school and cared for the babies. He has his PHD thanks to her. She was the valedictorian of the class that he was in. So she is sad and lonely sometimes. It hurt her so badly. I remember when my ex asked me to marry him. I asked if he could wait till I finished nursing school. I had one more semester. He said no. He told me I needed to get a job to support him through school at Arizona State. So, my answer was no. I saw a movie where this woman supported her husband through law school, working two jobs. He then left her for a woman at his law firm. I stored that movie in my memory and knew I had made the right decision. He was a turd. My dad was happy we didn't marry. Now, back to Bonnie, she could stay home and raise the kids after he got a teaching position. She would do odd jobs on the weekends to raise money for her kids. Now, at 62, she has to work for health insurance and provide for herself. The situation is heartbreaking.
Machka, thanks for accepting my invitation to be friends on Goodreads. I want to read a good thriller soon. Lately, I have been reading light and fluffy stuff. I am reading Nora Roberts's trilogy, Inheritance and the Mirror. Now, I am waiting for the third book. Mindgames by Nora Roberts was also good.
Pip, how long do you have to catch up and pass Steve Cardin? How does this all work? Does it start at a certain period and end at a specific date?
Lanette, I am glad you passed your cardiac test. Keep up the good work! I love the Dark Knit:).
Debbie, if it doesn't rain, will all that water clear or drain by Saturday?
Barbara, Baby Suko is like the sister I never had.
Rebecca, I believe I am a Bee.
Lisa, DH does my taxes, but I want to fire him. We either owe or never get money back. When I did my taxes, I always got my money back. I always claimed zero so they could take the max out of my pay. I don't know what he does. We file jointly. I do need to email my W2 and the kids as well. He went to a professional last year, and we owed $21,000.00 because he had taken his retirement money to buy his condo.
Well, that is all for today. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Allie, I hope you feel better soon.
Tight hugs for you all. Carla, you all will be in my thoughts on Sunday.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi
My catching up to first place depends on how long/how many miles I walk or ride. He is riding too, so it depends on how constant we are riding. There is an app we use that I sync up to my Strava app. Strava tracks the miles I ride and walk whether it would be outside on the road or on my spin bike at home.it started on 12/6/24 and not sure exactly when it ends., November sometime I think. It used to only count bike riding miles, last year it counted walking miles which is great for me because we walk 5 miles, 6 days a week. When I go to the gym and run on the treadmill or get on another machine, I can manually add those miles because they are not tracked on my Strava app. I called MS to confirm because I didn’t want to cheat. So as long as I keep plugging away, I’ll always try to keep my standing. Hope this all made sense.5 -
@Debbie Thanks for the info. I have to use it 4 times a day but no length noted. I understand that if I don’t need it, don’t use it. I’ve been using it 3 times a day since Monday and feel I can breathe better. I’ll switch to twice a day next week then see what happens when I stop.
@Pip Thank you for the link!
Thought for the day: (two today, I’m not sure about either. Enjoy!)

Mo- I am sure the water has gone down by the bridge. I read they were clearing the mudslides last night on the road I will be on in an hour. It may still be one lane, not sure yet. I want to get up past there before it gets dark.
Rita- Slowly cut back on the nebulizer, like you mentioned is what I do. If it gets worse, I increase again. It really does help a lot. If you find it bad but not time to do another treatment, take a steaming shower or breath some steam from a pot on the stove.
Took one cat to her new home. She was one of the last additions(found her on our roof crying), got her fixed and brought her inside- the other cats never liked her so gave her to a co-worker of dh's.
Dh accidentally let one of the former strays that lives in the second catio out last night and didn't realize it. I found him laying in a puddle, cold and wet. Dried him off and put him back in. A few hours later while I was walking, dh text me to say that the cat was dying- he took him up to the emergency vet- said it is a blocked urinary track- they will keep him for 48 hrs and treat him. I am guessing it will be $2500. A crazy amount for a stray but he loves that cat and told them to do what ever they need to to save him. This is the second one over the years that had to be rushed up to emergency(no vets can see pets on the same day around here), for urinary track issues. The other is doing fine- all the cats that eat in the bedroom are on the special food beings we can't feed Tora the special food and make sure he doesn't eat the other stuff. The new one will now also be on it. May just switch all of them(slowly-kittens have issues with some dried food).
Ezie got picked up 15 min early so I am going to finish here and then head up to mom's so I am there before dark.
Have a wonderful weekend ladies.
I will be home Sunday evening- taking dh to oral surgeon at 7amMonday morning.
Debbie

Update on Okie- the stray cat. Dh is on his way home- they are keeping the cat- estimate is $3800-4900!! Almost 5 thousand dollars for a stray cat with a urinary track blockage(it isn't blocked anymore- they removed it)
That is crazy amount but dh wants to do it.

Debbie When I got my first kitten from the Humane Society in the 1980's, I had to answer a lot of questions including how much I thought it would cost to care for the kitten. My mother told me that the question was to find out if you'd thought about more than just food and kitty litter and were thinking about medical care. I've had lots of cats and dogs and they're expensive.
This has been another day of ups and downs. My dancing friend came over this morning and we were able to dance a few dances mixed in with playing with Annie. She wants to be part of the action.
Lanette, when we moved into the house we're in, the rule was only two pets. The manager said that if she never saw our cat, she could act as if all we had were the two poodles. Last year, they changed the rule so that indoor cats didn't count. Our houses are too close together to be able to have chickens and keep them secret.

My husband had his Achilles tendon surgery yesterday and stayed in the hospital overnight. Surgery went really well and he's in good spirits.
However, he is not to put any weight on his left foot for 4 weeks. It's in a cast for the first 2 weeks, then we see the surgeon for follow up, and he'll go into a moonboot.
I've provided him with several tools to assist him through this time:
- a kneeling walker/scooter - rented
- a standard standing walker - from hospital
- a shower stool - from hospital
- a toilet rail thing to help him stand up - from hospital
- a 4-point cane - purchased
- a grabber - purchased
- a standard cane - purchased, we've had it for a while.
- a solid adjustable height stool - purchased. We've had it for a while but now it's good for getting up the 2 steps from our garage into the house, and transferring to the kneeling walker.
- a GreenSpeed recumbent - purchased for recovery riding a bit later.
In that time, I've driven to the hospital and back 3 times (30 minute trip each way), I went for a 2 km walk, I washed and dried (hung outside) his bedding and remade his bed, I unloaded the dishwasher, loaded it, and got it washing, then cleaned the kitchen a bit. I put in several hours of work (at home). I watched the movie The Net (because I'm not sure it's one my husband could follow well)) and I read half a book. Oh, I also took Rhody for 3 walks.
There was a lot more I wanted to do, but I ran out of time.

Mo, I do not like hearing about your tax situation. Sounds like you are paying more than your fair share of the joint income taxes. Does your DH share copies of the returns? Can you see the details? Might it be time for a CPA or lawyer?

I frequently have "palpitations" and have been told:
a) they're nothing to worry about ... they happen and they can be caused by a number of things
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/when-to-evaluate-heart-palpitations
“While palpitations can sometimes signal a more serious condition, they’re often just a sensation of a normal heartbeat,” says Marine. “Confirming that nothing is seriously wrong is sometimes all a person needs. Relaxation techniques and reassurance from a physician – I find that both are very helpful when the cause of palpitations is benign.”
b) it could just be gas
https://www.icardiomg.com/can-gas-cause-heart-palpitations/
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/17084-heart-palpitations
What causes heart palpitations?
A wide variety of things can cause heart palpitations, including but not limited to:
Emotions, such as anxiety, stress, fear and panic.
Exercise.
Pregnancy.
Caffeine.
Overactive thyroid.
Low levels of sugar, potassium or oxygen.
Low carbon dioxide in your blood.
Fever.
Anemia.
Dehydration.
Blood loss.
Medications such as asthma inhalers, beta blockers you take for high blood pressure or heart disease, thyroid drugs and antiarrhythmic medicines.
Some cough/cold medicines, including decongestants.
Some herbal and nutritional supplements.
Recreational drug use such as cocaine and amphetamines (speed).
Nicotine.
Alcohol.

Lanette Since you were his spouse you could roll his IRA account into your IRA account. You would have had to make the RMD payments if he was already taking distributions the year he died. It will be your beneficiaries who inherit the IRA account who will have ten years to deplete that account and pay the taxes on what is left. If it is better for your cash flow and tax situation to take it out in ten years that is a different story.2

Barbara AHMOD-thanks for the information on Katla. It sounds like she may have passed-wasn't she in nursing facility with her husband?4

Morning, kids -
I was pretty sure Katla was moving into dementia before she left - it was a huge sigh of relief when her family came and got her and her husband, just to know she was being taken care of. She was a bright spot before it became so hard for her to even find us. Not sure I ever knew how old she was.
Not sure what today will bring - but that's the charm of weekends with a working man. I've got a few messy spots I need to rein back in in my sewing room, and have to get my serger re-threaded with black threads, which isn't as easy as it sounds, nor as hard as people make it out to be. Just takes time. Need it for the current bag.
His work clothes are in the wash, and one more load to do after that, and laundry will be done for the weekend. Hopefully, before he even emerges from his lair - just had to let Egg in there, as she was yowling as if her heart would break outside the door. Me, she uses for a trampoline if I'm asleep. Him, she'll curl up beside and sleep for hours. 🐈⬛😂
Speaking of whom - before she headed in there, she was trying to find her twisty tie that she stole from the kitchen counter and brought in my sewing room:

Margaret - good question. I wondered that too. It's a special pension plan he had when he worked for the college so not a typical IRA. Turns out there are different requirements for pensions connected to state jobs from what I can figure out and the 10-year rule applies for inherited accounts.
Hard to keep up with. It's a small account.

Barbara ~ I agree with Ginny and Lisa that Katla has either passed or is in a memory care home. Prayers for her!
I have a bridal shower to attend today and I have worried about it all week. It has been almost 10 yrs since I went to an occasion where you are expected to dress up. I really had no appropriate clothes to wear as I mostly wear tee shirts and pants. In addition, I must say that I am not an outgoing social person and I dread today.

I had a rare burst of energy this morning, as I don't write at the weekend. Tiny bit of kitchen sorting, then I cleaned John's bathroom basin. I do use it too for hand washing, so it didn't feel too wrong. (He usually does it) I have been meaning to have a go at the whole bathroom, but decided not to let the perfect be the enemy of the good, and just do the basin today. The cleaner only does a quick swipe in there, so lime stains do build up. I scrubbed around the edges with an old toothbrush. Much better, in about five minutes.
Then I made a lamb, potato, and spinach curry. The whole house is aromatic! A little bit of fenugreek is in there.
In between I was keeping up with my exercises and forcing myself up the stairs with two legs. I've been up and down around 5 or 6 times so far. It's still an effort, but I'm getting there.
Katla was the same age as me, almost exactly. I am 75. So sad.
I've been awake since 4 am, so I will have a nap.

Worked today. I think I’m getting faster and more efficient. Well, that happens when you do something over and over again
Lanette – our condo has a rule of only two pets. We bring our 4 cats and there’s never been a problem. I’m sure what they don’t want is someone having 4 barking dogs. But cats don’t make a lot of noise. Besides, it’s not like we’re down there a whole lot
M – glad to hear your husband’s surgery went well
Brabara – oh no, katla! I pray everything’s OK. Hopefully, you’ll hear back from your text. Or at least her family will get back to you). I really hate to say it, but I’ afraid Ginny and Carol are right
Lisa – oh, cheap toys for cats. Twist ties keep them amused for hours and hours
Getting ready to go to Jess’

Well... I've accomplished a few things - painted a layer of gesso on a hatbox that I picked up at the thrift store for a couple bucks. It was a Winnie-the-Pooh print, so I bought a whole bunch of washi tape to cover it... found out that this tape is slightly transparent, so the print could be seen through the tape! The gesso will take a bit to dry. Which reminds me, if I'm going to repaint the refrigerator, I need to prime it with gesso so any painting will work better. Still thinking about what I would want to paint on it, though.
Also did my time on the elliptical, opened up my serger and realized it needed a good clean, so I got all the schmutz vacuumed out of its innards. Then I got it re-threaded and the edges serged on the pieces that needed it.
My daughter and my granddaughter, made up for her first dance - she will be 9 in March. It was also my daughter's first dance to be a chaperone. Made me laugh at how far her life has swapped ends since she was a wild child - I met her at barely 17--and it was 17 years ago now! But just before she went in the Army, she got tagged by the cops for an MIP - a minor in possession of alcohol.
I have pictures somewhere of her in her orange vest, picking up trash by the side of the road for her community service. The judge agreed to dismiss the charge as long as she did the community service and followed through on going in the military. I was just as wild at 17, I just never got caught! She is the first person who ever called me "Mom," and as I still tell her every once in a while, she may not have been born from under my heart, but she lives there now, and always will. Miss these faces so much!
Love y'all,
