Machka the desk was Mama’s and I love it too. You’re right those are all enjoyable activities, guess I was just thinking of fun as needing some body movement even if just laughter, like in a brisk board game. Browsing real estate, now that’s one I hadn’t thought of! We line dance to ‘Flowers’ frequently What is it that makes mac’n’cheese “Scottish style”?

Well, the photography could lead to all sorts of movement and activity too.
I'm not overly fond of laughter. I rarely laugh and hearing other people laugh can often be grating. So my "fun" activities tend not to involve laughter ... or talking.
But more quiet activities ...
- Sudoku
- Crossword
- Crafts like knitting, embroidery, etc.
- Making models of cars, airplanes, etc.
- Building sets for model trains
I just gave my husband a crossword book for when he has his surgery. We should find out more details about that tomorrow!

Laughing.
Apparently, I laugh a lot! I'm not really aware of it, but other people mention it.
Bea is a really great mimic, sometimes uncannily so, and she asked me, 'Granny, why are you always laughing?' Then she said, 'Isla laughs a lot too.' She is my ex's daughter.
I've also been told I'm very smiley.
One of the things I love most about my relationship with John, is that we spend a lot of time laughing. Not as in belly laughs, but as in chuckles, and giggles. We do a lot of bouncing off each other with repartee.
With my ex, this was largely missing, and is one of the reasons we ultimately parted. I used to lob him an idea, or a comment, and nothing came back. We were just depressed around each other.
One thing that annoys me in other people, is if they are 'slow'. My mother used to stand behind my father and make 'winding up' mimes. Cruel, I know, but I get the same urge with slow thinkers and talkers.
I like a quick talker, who can take a thought and run with it, or give it an original twist. I like a 'sideways look on life.' Then I laugh and my spirits rise. It puts a bounce in my step.

Thank you all for the beautiful well wishes! It was a really nice one. My oldest granddaughter brought me an orchid and chocolates. My youngest grandson just came to say hi. Work was okay.....Massage was wonderful!7

Machka/Heather - I tend towards Heather's side of things. When I can actually provoke my husband into laughter, rather than his usual chuckle while he's preparing something funny to say back, I feel very accomplished. And our back and forth competition of who can make the other one laugh is one of the joys of this marriage. My entire birth family tells funny stories, and the best part of being together, and the only part I miss, actually is those gatherings. My first husband had no discernible sense of humor and his family didn't either! Dinner table talk with them wasn't just stilted--it was non-existent, just a race to see who could finish first and leave. Never got used to it in 25 years. My family would sit around the dinner table telling funny stories for literally hours, and then move it outside so all the smokers could light up and everyone could talk and laugh some more. Not sure I could handle the smoke anymore, but I miss the laughter.
Tracey - Your table looks like my mother's always did - stuffed with people, cross-talk, stories, laughs. Happy belated birthday to your daughter.
Kylia - Happy birthday, darlin'.
Mo - Thanks for asking, you can find me at: https://youtube.com/@Whilst2024 Just look under videos. Trying to do short videos as well, but they will just be clips out of the long ones. The only way I'm going to get good at it is to keep doing them, trying to learn a little more on each one. Anyone who sees them at this point is seeing them at the beginning of that arc. I don't know how much better they'll get, but they will get better!
Speaking of which, knitting may kill me outright, but I am still working on learning it. Like videos, the only way to learn is to keep doing it! I learned with crochet, and am re-learning with knitting that "frogging" is what it's called now when you pull the yarn back out of what you're working on. That's because it sounds like "ribbet," when you "rip it" back out. I'm frogging a LOT.
Writing, taping and posting videos, sewing and knitting are filling up my days - I just have to evict my trusty companion, Egg, from everything that isn't electronic when I want to work on it - she's sleeping on the pieces of the purse I'm working with this morning:
Love y'all!

For whatever reason, I tend to associate a lot of laughter with being mocked ... or with the people laughing being drunk. And I start to feel really uncomfortable.
I was the nerd growing up and was teased/mocked a lot in school, and that was always accompanied by laughter ... theirs, not mine. And when I've come across groups of people who are drinking, I've noticed that the laughter gets louder and louder and louder ... and there's often a destructive element to situations like that.
That said, since my husband's accident, the severe traumatic brain injury, he laughs a lot more. He is more emotional in general, but one side of it is laughter. He finds many things hilarious! I don't mind him laughing and I will deliberately put on sitcoms or comedy movies so that he will laugh because it usually puts him in a good frame of mind.
But I tend to be happily quiet. I spend days at work, barely saying a word to anyone ... and I'm comfortable with that. I tend to like to think about things, process things, contemplate. I'm much more comfortable writing my thoughts than speaking them. Could be why I like data, databases, numbers, spreadsheets, and writing instruction manuals.
That said, something I found very interesting and a bit surprising ... two years ago, when I went back to work in my current department (I had left for a year to work elsewhere), several people said they were happy to see me and my smile again!! I hadn't realised anyone had noticed ... but I do like trying to smile at people to see if I can pass a smile on.
And my sense of humour is on the dry side.

TRACEY ~ You, your family, and friends all looks so happy at the craft table! And, all seem to be having fun doing their various projects.
MACHKA ~ All the mac and cheese recipes look about the way we in the South make it. My mom's looked a lot different than the boxed kind I have always bought. Hers had big hunks of cheddar in the midst of the mac and a white sauce.
LISA ~ Egg looks very fat and content on your purse.
MO ~ We all enjoy reading your posts! You have a lot to say and have very good insight!

I don't laugh but I enjoy good humour. I can't process too many humorous things at once so I don't enjoy long stand up comedy routines or the emails people send with a long line of funny cartoons. If I find something funny I'll retain it and reuse it for a long time.
Yesterday I watched the movie "Groundhog Day" and enjoyed it as much as I had when I saw it years ago.l

Another wonderful snow sculpture...
I do love the sound of children laughing..They laugh far more often than adults. Laughing like singing is actually good for us and long as it is not hurting someone or sarcastic.
To get in on the humor there needs to be common background knowledge so when the punch line is given it sparks a surprise that creates a chuckle moment.
I am grateful everyday I got my mom's sense of humor. She had such a wonderful laugh!

Ironically, I started a book yesterday that deals with the type of abuse Mo described above. I couldn’t put it down last night. It centers around a 6 year old that looks only 3 due to abuse, the doctor and his wife, a nurse, who are working with the child. MO’s story brought the book alive for me. It is called: The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry.
Got and used my nebulizer twice yesterday and once already today. This is really helping to stop my asthma coughing. Glad I got that thing!

Allie - Staying home sounds like a good idea - you've been struggling with not feeling well for far too long.
On laughter - Our pasts stay with us, don't they? I realized that none of that laughter I spoke of was during my childhood. The family get-togethers happened only occasionally when I was a child, usually after funerals, and everyone would hush when a child came close enough to hear, and you'd be told to shoo. All the ones I remember fondly were during my adulthood. And Machka, I think I would be averse to laughter with your memories, as well. Tracey - I hope you know how much you are giving to your daughters and your grands and their friends by just having this lovely time together. It really matters.
Got one video shot, saving and posting takes a while, comparatively, even on fiber optic lines. I schedule them to post at midnight Wednesday night, but won't announce them here, that will wear very quickly, I would think.
Got chicken in the fridge brining... will pull that out at about 3 p.m. to let it get dry, so that the skin will get crisp in the oven. Making some sort of Mexican rice dish to go with. Still debating that one.
Time to get the current purse assembled. Reasonably pleased with this one! I'll post a picture once it's done. Maybe by tomorrow, all things considered. Still thinking about what hardware to use.
Later, y'all,
Love,

It snowed on the island last night.💖👍🏼 Not a lot maybe an inch, just enough to blanket everything in white. Husband had a dentist appointment at 9 am so hopefully his drive is uneventful.
Everyone have a nice day. We were supposed to get Papa Murphy's take and bake pizza today, but don't know if that's still happening or not. The nice thing about putting a menu up is everything is interchangeable. But my brain can only think of a slice of pizza now.😳😂

Good morning ladies!
I've been kind of MIA the past few days. For one thing, I decided to take a hard look at my 2024 taxes, so I attempted to do them manually. Mostly to determine if I'd owe anything. Luckily, it appears plenty was withheld. But the form is a lot more complicated than it was when I did farm taxes nearly 20 years ago. Now there are complicated formulas, and the IRS instruction manual is 113 pages. Luckily, most of it doesn't pertain to my situation. Way back when, I think it was 15 or 16 pages. I'll probably end up E-filing using TaxAct as I've done in the past. Still waiting on a couple 1099's.
News on X - feel free to skip if you're OD'ed on the news. Some hanky-panky is being exposed.I've been down the D.O.G.E. rabbit hole on X. A lot is coming out about apparent corruption in some of the US aid agencies which appears to be leading to kickbacks to politicians on both sides of the aisle. In many cases, it's a complicated trail and there are researcher/posters on X (not government affiliated) who are quite skilled at linking all of this together. I am fascinated by research and how this stuff is coming to light. Before Elon Musk bought Twitter, a lot of this would have been censored. Bottom line - some of these politicians are going to have a lot of 'splainin' to do. After avoiding the news for the past few years, this is kind of a buffet for the investigative journalist in me, because people now have the means to go into detail. And provide facts, not opinions.
About protein/snacks to help with hunger. I ran across the chart, below, which shows how long it takes food to leave the stomach. I've been wondering why, if I have a small handful of mixed nuts which include almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, walnuts, etc., I never seem to get hungry. Check this out:

Woke up to about 2" of snow on top of ice this morning. YM cancelled classes so no water exercise today. Have to see what I can do here at home. DD went to work late after the sun came out and stuff started melting.
Katiebug - thanks for the term "entitlement eating". Fits perfectly a lot of what I do.
Machka - many years ago I took a laughter yoga class. It really improved my breathing after a pulmonary embolism and it was a lot of fun but it was everyone laughing together not at one another.

Debbie, you must take it up and spell out what he needs to share in the workload with DH. Since DS is moving to your MIL's house, will he also take over the dog duties? I have to put DH in his place, too, but he never admits he was wrong. He acknowledges that he has trouble with that because he feels right. I get so frustrated sometimes. Reading your post, I was frustrated that your DH didn't care for the dog.
Michelle, I wish I was in Florida again; sometimes, one week is not enough. We have so many NATs lately that it isn't funny (NAT- Non-accidental trauma). The worst one happened a few years back when a 6-week-old had a black eye, bruised ribs, and fractured skull. The mom said she heard a meow on the monitor, so the cat must have beaten her baby. I told my co-workers that if cats were going around beating up on people like that, I would stay inside. Shame on them for blaming the cat. The police didn't buy it, and they were arrested and the baby had an alias name so she could be safe. I hate when the system fails and continues to put the children in danger by sending them home. Then you find out later they died from continuous malnutrition, being abused to death, or being left in a car. It is terrible.
Sincerely,
Mo in Mississippi
I know I have to "put on my big girl panties" and sit him down and really talk to him about a lot of things.
Yes, son will take care of the dog when he moves in. He did mention that he plans on keeping the dog down stairs where he is putting his computer at least to start, because his girlfriend is bringing her cats when she moves in. Kobe(the dog) is ok with the cats but only when on his leash and never in HIS house.
I too get frustrated with dh about the dog. One great thing about taking care of the dog is he and I both get a lot of extra steps in. He has never been walked this much before. When MIL walked him it was just short walks then when she couldn't take him she would allow me to walk him at all some days and other days I could walk him but only for very short walks. Also, I would much rather take care of the dog than go see my MIL.
I have never understood how anyone could hurt a baby/child but we have seen it when we were foster parents. We had one 8month old that came to us after his , I believe 3rd or maybe 4th(this was 25 yrs ago) skull fracture. The mom said he rolled off the bed. Or the ones that came to us addicted and having withdrawls. One was given the choice to either go into rehab with the baby or go to jail. Of course she went to rehab. A few months later we ran into the family that were his new foster family. The mom was in jail again. They did not bring him back to us but put him in a new home. We wanted to adopt one baby girl- they told us we were on the "wrong list". We stopped being foster parents when they told me I could not be a licensed daycare provider and a foster parent through the state. I had to choose.
Daycare has been my full time job. There was no way I could give that up and hope that they would actually call us with a placement. The social workers had their favorite families and they got most of the calls. Gave up foster care after that.

Wimped out on coffee with D this morning, too danged cold. It might take more than pulling up my big girl panties to get me out to line dancing tonight ;{
Kylia, courragia! Getting nicotine-free is the most important thing you can do for your health. It’s not surprising to put on a few pounds as the nicotine clears from your system, releasing more oxygen to metabolize more calories from the food you eat. It, and you will settle in. Never ever ever give up!!!
Thanks Sharon (Losingweightforgood2019)! Hope you have a good day too!
Thanks Terri! Alas I have so many reminders on my phone, it’s become easy to ignore them… Will try to link with something I do every day…
Mo congratulations for taking off those five pounds! I’m sure your Baby Suko is much cuter than baby Kong…
Tracey love the crafting pic. Does Michaela feel all grown up being allowed to craft with the adults?
Sue wrong permit? [sigh]. Heigh ho, enjoy your sleigh ride!
Thanks Machka that recipe sounds much like how I make mac’n’cheese, except I don’t use nutmeg or heat the milk separately, just add after making the roux, then gradually melt the (Tillamook Rebecca! Extra sharp) cheddar. Likewise use Tillamook in my (now I know it’s Canadian-style) grilled cheese You have a lovely smile and I really enjoy your dry wit.
Heather I too love to laugh, and frequently find things hilarious that mystify those around me. Yes, I struggle with slow talkers. BUT I’m putting real effort into listening to Joe, giving him time to gather his thoughts, and not finish his sentences for him. Rough but rewarding ;}
Lisa, when we visited family in St. Louis, all would gather around the kitchen table, tell stories and laugh. Likewise when we had company for dinner. BUT normal dinner table conversation was Papa stirring Mama up so she’d “go up like a rocket.” Their dynamic, not mine. Joe does make me laugh, not as much as the dogs do, but some. Joe does NOT tell stories at the table on those rare occasions that we eat at the same time. He’s of the “finish first and leave” school.
Carol the best part of the mac’n’cheese imho, are the big hunks of browned/melted cheese on top. Rats, now I’m hungry!
Margaret one of the best things about our house in San Leandro, was that it backed up to an elementary school’s playing field. All summer long we’d hear distant children’s laughter. Delightful.
Sue “laughter yoga” sounds therapeutic
Day 4 progress, more purging, a little filing, worktable and desk unchanged, but no worse ;} .keyboardPooches are angling for tummy time, so…

Regarding XI would take what is said on X with extreme skepticism. It is a social media platform, not news, so the claims made are not vetted adequately. People can claim to have done "research," but who knows. X has been notorious for blocking/not promoting ideas which do not align with Musk's point of view, so it has become very much an echo chamber. I personally think Musk is an extremely dangerous person. Unelected, unconfirmed, but taking all power.
Is there fat in our government operations? Certainly. Things do need to be cleaned up. But I do not think a burn it all to the ground approach is healthy for our democracy. (I admit to taking a bit of joy at thinking of the Department of Ed being shut down since they cause my industry never ending misery, but . . . on the other hand, if it is shut down, I am very thankful that my child will have already graduated from high school.)
Anyway, We just need to be careful what we believe from people, especially, who have an agenda which hasn't been clearly articulated, with power that, from my perspective, is being usurped.
We have snow in the forecast for tonight. Here's hoping. We lost power unexpectedly this morning at 5:00 a.m. for about four hours. It got really cold!
Take care everyone.

Supposed to be in the 70’s today. I bet this means that people will be getting the flu and stuff.
Rebecca – can you use pictures from cards other than Christmas cards?
Flea – don’t worry about the misunderstanding. We all do it. I tell you, I have these friends who are trans. They are the most wonderful people on the face of this earth. I’m so blessed to have them as friends.
Just found out thru Facebook that one of the ladies at the condo is having hip replacement surgery. She’s a real nice lady but she is 90 years old. At that age to go thru major surgery…. Well, she’s a fighter so we shall see…. I just hope for the best. Going to take a walk in a few and while I’m on my walk I may call this one gal at the condo who is somewhat close to this lady (they both live in Ohio) and see if she knows anything more. Update: called and had to leave a message.
M – I’m not a big pasta eater and I can’t remember the last time I had a hamburger! I’d rather order a larger meal and take ½ of it home with me
Going to Jess’ this weekend to see Dream Theatre in concert. Should be interesting. Anyway, last time we were there I made these cake batter cookies and Colby really liked them so I made some for him and I’ll give some to one of the mgrs. At BK for her sons. They are so cute and always give me a hug when they come
kylia – happy birthday!
Vicki – impressive weight loss! How long did it take you? Did you do anything special?
Tomorrow is Bryan’s birthday, but with the time change they might celebrate it today. I sent him an email just wishing him a happy birthday. I realized I haven’t seen him in over 10 years. Maybe some day he’ll know how much I do love him
Mo – 5 more pounds...that’s awesome
Took my walk, cut the cats nails and then quickly-rinsed my car, just to get the dirt and stuff off. I didn’t even wash the top. At least now it looks decent – sort of
Sue – never heard of “laughter yoga” but sounds really cool. Would love to try it
Barbara – who is the musician? Is that a type of synthesizer?
Ceramics tonight. Trying to get the Murphy’s app. See, when I joined, I accidentally used the wrong cell #. Changed it today and was told that I’d get an email/text but I haven’t, it just says that it’s pending. So I’ll probably give them a call tomorrow after exercise and some shopping.

Have y’all missed me? The septic tank people were out for a routine maintenance last Thursday and cut our internet cable. It was finally repaired today. I was so behind. I skimmed a little but am somewhat caught up.
We did end up having to close our checking account. The second fraud activity was more subtle. They deposited 12 cents then debited 5, then debited the other 7. As far as our balance it was a wash, but they were getting ready. They thought we wouldn’t notice, I guess. It was most unfortunate that this happened on the same day our internet cable was cut. I will spend all day tomorrow online with accounts trying to get it all straightened out. Such a hassle!

Machka - I see what you mean about the grilled cheese.
Those Mac and cheese recipes look good, my favourite though will always be KD.
Heather - I love laughing too. DH and I share laughs a lot.
Quick wit, he is full of it. Sometimes I’m a bit slower though.
Lisa - a full table is one of my greatest pleasures. I wish we could do a lot more of it.
Egg sure enjoys being comfy in your work. 🙂
Thank you, I hope they all come together to care for me in my old age. They are a very special group of young ladies. Lauryn’s BFF posted on her wall yesterday announcing they have been friends for 24 years. In my head they’re still teens working through life.
It also amazes me that they were 12 and taking public transit all over the city to get to school. Now you can’t trust that they are safe anywhere on it.
Barbie - I am not a fan of stand up comedy either, but I love shows with humour.
Lanette - I was “newsed” out last night I heard it all day at work at top volume as the residents were glued to it. I got home and lasted about 5 minutes of Rodger watching it before I told him I didn’t care what he put on but I couldn’t listen to another minute of it.
The world is angry and it’s hard to find any station that just reports the facts and lets us form our own opinions. Everyone has to tell us what to think these days.
Barbara - Michaela enjoys the crafting, but I don’t think she enjoys the loud boisterous gatherings. I noticed at Rodger’s birthday party she was very quiet. She was when sitting with us on Saturday as well. I think it’s a little over stimulating to her.
Kim - I agree one of the things I absolutely love about this group is we can shut the world off for a bit.
Kay - what a mess it is straightening everything out. I don’t know why all of these hackers and scammers can’t use their skills for the good.
For those of you that have been following along with Kaitlyn and Brodey’s GoFundMe.
My MIL is still in the hospital as far as we know. It seems that my SIL, nieces and nephew can’t pick up a phone, text, or answer a message to let us know what’s going on. Kaitlyn tried to call the hospital tonight but unlike the other night the nurse actually wouldn’t give any information because none of us are on the contact list. My BFF is going to go see her tomorrow so we can ask her to put us on the list so we can call and get updates.
I have never seen a family like this. We moved out here and it’s as if we aren’t even part of the family anymore. It’s maddening.

Machka's favourite foods (mains) ...
Mexican and Indian (mild to medium hot) are about tie for top place.
Pasta of all sorts. I love the cream sauces but my digestive system does not. So pesto is my second favourite and better than the cream sauces. Tomato based sauces aren't too bad. Veggies with the pasta are very good but no seafood or mushrooms, and very little meat.
Then things like pizza and hamburgers (but not fast food hamburgers). And preferably veggie burgers.
That's pretty much what we eat.
