Still with you ! ๐
Zero fast food thus far in 2025. Happy February!
๐ช1 -
Boy did I blow it last night! Walked the floor until 3am--nothing prepped in fridge (crappy pancakes don't count). Whataburger called to me and I answered. It took forever to get my food--all cooked fresh and so good! Almost a days calories gone by 4 am.2
-
New resolution-- prep weekly breakfast every Sunday.1
-
I do think this would be more difficult if I were a breakfast eater since I'm usually passing all the drive thrus running errands in the mornings.0

Too many restaurants, here, lately. Still no drive-thru or fast food, though!1
-
We're trying to eat at locally owned, good quality restaurants. Going to try to keep it to once or twice per week for March!1

I go to restaurants frequently tooโฆ I think the key is high quality places with whole foods ..1 -

Where do you find those restaurants?
I live about 1/2 mile from fast food central. McDonald's, Taco Bell, IHOP, Pancake House, Subway, Chicken Express in one shopping center. The other 3 corners of the intersection are about the same.
Mostly Chicken and burgers. I can think of 3 places in town that actually cook real food. One poor quality Mexican. One good pasta(I don't particularly like pasta). And one dimly lit place that stays open late, serves more liquor than food (I don't drink), but yes, I occasionally go early. (Is that where old people get the reputation for eating supper at 4:00pm? ๐ ๐คฃ ๐)1 -

Iโm also in NYC - we are saturated with restaurants.
In my neighborhood there are actually NO fast food places or chainsโฆ they are all independently owned cafes or restaurants. Iโve actually never been to a chain restaurant in NYC. I would have to google map it.
In a 15 block radius I have a few farm to table places, green juice cafes, health conscious coffee shops, broth shops, restaurants that market themselves as organic and locally sourced..etc etcโฆ. Itโs like a cottage industry here..
I have a shake shack about 16 blocks away..and pizza and Chinese take out thatโs the closest quickie foods, there is a Starbucks and Dunkin within walking distance..โฆbut no real traditional โfast foodโ places like Burger King, etc by me.
I believe there is 1 - 2 remaining drive thrus in uptown Manhattan.
I think you are in the South? Which I always thought was interesting because there is so much glorious agriculture in the South! Iโd have to drive 2 hours to see any large farms here. It seems almost backwards โฆ
You may have to start the healthy restaurant in town!!1 -
How wonderful for you!
But I would suffocate in NYC. Spent 3 days there. No desire to go back.
I'm from Oklahoma. Grew up in a very small farm town. Lived on the farm 10 years. Nearest neighbor 2 miles away.
Maybe that's why central USA is so fat. Fast food is just about the only way to avoid cooking. Delis don't do well. We had a smoothie food truck that lasted a couple of months. We eat a lot of salad bags. All the grocery stores have them. No rotisserie chicken near me. Lots within 10-15 miles.
I usually gain 10-20 pounds in winter, lose it easily, naturally in summer. Common here. An advantage (or disadvantage if you aren't careful) I bet you don't have in NYC.
Yes, there is agriculture. I grew up in wheat, cotton, cattle, peanut country. We get our flour at the grocery store, not directly from the wheat we grow. Beef cattle. We butcher our own beef. But milk and butter comes from the grocery store. Peanuts are free, so shelling, roasting, salting peanuts is a favorite pastime. Every potluck has lots of Peanut pie, peanut brittle, roasted peanuts, etc.
Some farmers have gardens. Some don't have time. We grew only tomatoes.
Usually if you see a big pretty garden, you've just found a recently retired farmer.1 -
@Corina1143 - sounds like beautiful countryside!!
I bet you have fresher air too! ๐
Ps - I had to look up peanut country in USA!

We have a lot of both healthy restaurants and fast food, here, pretty much any kind of restaurant you can think of!
I did live in OKC back in the 90s and I think the bbq restaurant I worked at was the only healthy one, maybe a breakfast diner. ๐ค0 -
Then you remember Jimmy's egg. We have one, and I'm sure you could get something healthy there. But not at 4am, which is my true weakness.1
-
Yes, we lived right behind a Jimmy's Egg. ๐
I remember their French toast being sooo tasty!0 -
I was looking up classes at the gym, and realized-- they open at 5am. Can I switch my focus at 4am to having toast and coffee while getting dressed for the gym? It's worth a try! That would take care of 90% of my fast food problems.2
-
That sounds like a good idea! I'm planning joining a gym, for the first time ever, as soon as the new Ymca is built in my town, probably by next year. Think it will be a good place to meet people, as well...1
-
Are we considering Starbucks fast food? I suppose so.. ya?
Full disclosure - If so.. I got a challenge demerit.
I ran out of coffee so I uberโed a black coffee and egg white bites.
Not the best quality coffee either.

Should I add the coffee clause to this challenge?
๐

haha! What happens before 8am stays hidden before 8am? ESP if it pertains to coffee?
1 -
Agreed!:D โ๏ธ ๐

This morning I had Prep'd steak and eggs in the fridge, but I woke up craving a wake up wrap.
I love Wendy's, but I know it's not healthy, so I've been staying away except an occasional baked potato. I just can't stay away from Dunkin. And I don't eat their donutsโeven the free ones. They just aren't tempting. I'm addicted to wake up wraps and their hot coffee.
Staying away from other drive-thrus, mostly easy.
1 -
I don't think a Dunkin wakeup wrap and coffee is all that bad:D It can be covered in the coffee clause!

I'm down to join this challenge. I work in the trades and pretty much live in my car driving from customers home to customers home. Living in Atlanta, GA the ability to resist fast food feels impossible at times and for me has become an extremely compulsive habit. At times it feels like I'm in a trance and end up in a fast food drive through line like a zombie. It's insane. Plus it's expensive. Definitely the habit in my health journey I need to break more than any other. I'm down for this challenge and thankful that it's here!
3 -
Never thought of that before. Fast food must be an easy default for you.
Easy to take bottles of water. But I'm sure an icy drink must be tempting in summer, hot drink in winter. How to get around it?
Peanut butter sandwich, so easy, so goodโoccasionally. What else?
2 -
The summer might be more challenging, honestly, here in SEast! I might keep a little cooler in the backseat with drinks and healthy foods when I'm out for the day... We're usually fine with packing a turkey sandwich, salad greens, and fruit cup for lunch.
1 -
The cost, for me, is a big incentive to keep going! I do still eat at restaurants with no drive thru, but I'm more likely just to wait til I get home. Saving me a lot of money.. Plus the restaurants I do eat at have much healthier options!
2 -
This is a good idea. Keeping a cooler with healthy options in the back would probably help with the temptation!
