New here and looking for accountability!

I am new to MFP but certainly not new to trying to lose weight. It's been a life long thing for me and while I've succeeded at losing weight in previous years I've never kept it off because I lack accountability to myself. I'm 51 years old and peri menopausal and am tired of being tired and not feeling good in my own body. I know how to eat and know when I eat good food I feel amazing but continue to self sabotage because I eat to distract myself or numb my feelings. I really just want to be proud of myself and know I can do hard things. I have been a member of weight watchers multiple times in the past and have come to realize it's just not for me. It's not healthy or realistic. Their new program seems to be a bit better in terms of tracking macros but the list of "zero point" foods leaves alot of room for bingeing as well. I also tracked calories vs. Points in the past and was eating under 1000 calories each day.

MFP currently has my calories set at 1260. I am 5 foot 5 and 215 lbs. My goal weight to start is 170. What do you think of the calorie goal MFP has set for me?
I am just getting back into working out and that mainly consists of weight lifting with a little cardio. Also is it recommended to eat or not eat the calories back that you burn from activity?

Also if there is an accountability group/chat could you please point me in the right direction!? πŸ™

I recently just re-downladed MFP after learning it's not just a meal planning/macro calculator and am excited to try more of its features.

I'm honestly not even sure what an accountability partner is. I know its a bit of a dumb question but what is/what does an accountability partner do? πŸ€”
  • My idea of an accountability partner is someone to check in with regularly to get and give support to. To review how the week has been and offer encouragement, reassurance, ideas/thoughts and kudos!

I honestly had no idea there was such thing, yet alone a whole community for it. I absolutely love the idea of that ☺️ I used to go with a buddy but it's been a lot harder trying to self motivate or even get out the door.

You're calorie goal definitely sounds doable. It seems you are set for 1 - 1.5lbs a week loss. I would suggest making small changes at first. You don't have to learn everything there is to now all at once. You can still eat well at 1260 calories but you can also go up to 1600 calories and still be at 1lbs a week deficit.

I just made myself download the app today. I know that my eating has not been productive or healthy in a long time. I am pretty much in the same age group (1971)and want to feel better about myself and eat better. I would be happy to be a check in buddy.
