Barbara - I didn't know it was your birthday, but obviously it is , so have a good one. Very many best wishes ❤️

I found a great cricket set on Amazon, suitable for 9-13 year olds, so I sent the link to John. He approved and has bought it, so more fun and games in store for the girls. Edie wants to be in the new school team, so she's keen to learn. John thinks Bea has a natural talent. She is a natural mimic, so was able to copy technique really quickly.
There is a park not far away, so they can go there sometimes. Our garden is all lumps and bumps.

Hello, All - ready for a blast from the past?
I am back on MFP after an extended absence due to multiple things... First - COVID happened - Second - a High Stress Job - Third, my Hubby's failing health... between all of those, I dropped off the radar, dropped out of my exercise program and basically gained back all the weight I lost the last time I was here. : /
So, after being in said High Stress job for over 4 years - and with my Husband's passing - I am now able to devote a little bit of time to getting my "stuff" together. I was going to hold off a while longer - as I am currently preparing to do a full remodel on my house - in small stages, if I can help it - but, I decided that, at least as far as eating goes - there is no need to delay. I mean, I have to eat, whether I am busy or not - so I might as well start eating right, again. I can worry about the exercise part down the line after the remodel part is done - but I have no excuse not to control what I put into my mouth.
Thanks to Cindy and Jennifer for checking in with me - I appreciate it! I can't swear that I will be here, a lot - I generally work between 45 and 50 hours a week, still - but, I will lurk when I can.
On the bright side - after eating low carb since Feb 22 - I have already dropped 5 pounds - probably all water - but, I am taking it. Hope to get to know all of the new folks, and be a little more present both here and in my own self care...
Happy March! (sunny and 75 in Texas, today)

I walked an extra 2 miles a day while we were here camping. I’m proud that I did that all 6 days while we were here. I’m still in first place. I’m 89.48 miles ahead. Next week I’ll be able to get back on the bike after our walk.
My brother surprised us with a visit here, he stayed in his trailer. It was nice to see them again.

Welcome back RE, so sorry to hear of your husbands passing. Do what you can in checking in with group now and then. Know that all that's on your plate to deal with, remember to not trade in a plate, for a platter. That's heavy!
Kind of exciting to remodel eh? That's something I have never done, just rented apartments and homes all our life! I would like to know what "pride in ownership" feels like one day!

I went to Costco today. This was one more new solo adventure for me. Since we got Annie, Jake had been going to Costco by himself because he didn't want to leave Annie alone in the car in the Costco parking lot. I finally figured out why. He always parked as close to the entrance as possible so he wouldn't have to walk far and he didn't want to leave her in the car with all the people and cars passing by. I solved that by parking as far out in the parking lot as possible and going into the store the minute they opened. Nobody parked anywhere near my car and Annie was fine. I bought only the five things on my list.
Lanette, I thought about ending my use of the woodstove like you did, but decided that since I use it for recreation more than heat and because it is likely to get cold again before we really have spring, that I will postpone that for awhile. I'll run out of smaller pieces of wood before long and that can be my signal to clean up the outside rack by the house and the inside storage and wait for son to come in May and split all the remaining bigger pieces to use next year. The guy we get wood from still owes us some from the cord we bought and he can bring that in the spring.
There's not much point in getting exited about the extra daylight in the morning since it will be gone next weekend with the advent of daylight savings time.

Did a Hot Body Yoga DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a pilates DVD.
M – you are on a roll!
Went out by the pool. Starting to get rid of the white legs. Ordered the mirror. Going to go to HD to get the light. They have so many on display that we’ll probably buy it Update: bought it
Lisa – You SHOULD be pleased with your exercise. I know I am for you
Barbara – happy birthday
Re – WB! So sorry to hear about your husband. Great loss
You go Allie!!!
Exercised, went out by the pool, went to church, had dinner, then they have a fire pit here at the condo. Some of the people go out and we joined in, just for 1-1/2 hr. The grabrail came in.
Off to shower and bed.

Weight update ...
Down 5 kg (11 lbs) since Christmas, or actually, since January 11 when I started taking the whole process more seriously.
Eating less and exercising more works.
And I found that eating less is difficult for the first couple weeks. My body yelled and screamed for more food, and went off into a sulk and had several tantrums ... and then one day I noticed that it was easier.
It's sort of like running for me ... the first few hundred metres of running is SO HARD. Everything hurts and my body is like a 2-year old who is very tired but is fighting a nap. I persist, and it all settles down and is OK for a while.
I need new running/walking shoes but they are expensive. So for the time being, I am trying to adjust my current shoes to resolve my agonising arthritis pain.
I have severe severe osteoarthritis in big toe joints, where they connect to the foot. At some point, I may have them looked at again, and maybe surgically fused or something, but meanwhile, I keep walking.
I had a cursory look for my orthotics and carbon fibre insoles but couldn't find them. They are likely in the house somewhere but no idea where. I will find them eventually.
Then I looked up lacing techniques, and the one I think I'm going to try is the one for Wide Forefoot.

Re - I remember you.
So sorry to hear of your difficulties over the recent years. It's so hard to see our loved ones struggling with their health, and then having to cope with the huge changes in our life after they die. You are not alone in this group.
Keeping up with a demanding job through all that must be hard. Little by little you will be able to prioritise yourself and make those changes you want to make. Best wishes.
Tracey - Are you OK?
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
February highlights:
Still nicotine free. Yay!
Averaged 3000 more steps per day than January. (10k)
20 more zone minutes per day than January (35)
14 more exercise days than January. (25
Same weight as beginning of month (or close enough).
Will official weigh in Monday.
So for March....
Step average up to 11k
Active zone average up to 40 mins
Minimum of 20 mins exercise most days.
Be lighter at end of month than I am today.
I started this while waiting for DH to come out of MRI but never finished. So HAPPY SUNDAY!
Beth We too are in like a lion!!! I even closed all my curtains again last night. COLD with luckily just snow flurries. Got down to 17* F last night. That is hard to swallow when it was just in the 50's and 60's! My iris are up about 5 inches. My Autumn Joys are about about 2". I hope they all survive this cold snap.
Got lots actually accomplished at work yesterday. Great Niece called all the deliveries after I had them totaled. She doesn't like doing that but her grandmother made her anyway (my sister in law). I got my emails cleared out as well as the work one. Got home generator information sent to insurance company. This will get us a credit on our homeowner's insurance. Also got it hooked up to my phone in an app. Made chili- yummy! Visited with DYD while the "men" did some heavy lifting at her house yesterday. Was relaxing. I would call yesterday a success!
Question: Back to the protein thing.....Can someone explain why my protein "goal" changes throughout the day? In the morning, it is 79g, by most evenings it is around 93g. I am guessing because of activity?
I am generally low carbs just because of how I eat. I am going to try switching it up and get some higher carbs every few days. My scale seems to move better if I have a few days really close to or slightly over calorie suggestion, followed by a couple of days under suggestion. Maybe it is all in my head and it is the exercising, but am going to try. My macros are generally more fat than carbs or protein.
Welcome back with hugs RE.
Spring really is just around the corner for us Northern Hemisphere ladies! Hang in there!
You all IMPRESS me with your commitment to yourselves!
Make the best choice you can in the moment and learn from it.
Need to get a couple of things done. (and check on kitties who insisted on going outside)
Much love,
Kylia in Ohio

Watched an interesting interview on insulin resistance and the effect it has on your body and weight. Again it convinced me at my age almost 70 to stay away from the refined carbs and to be more careful of starches and fruits. I also need to up my movement during the day and if I do eat a refined carb to make sure I get exercise too. Strength training would also help. Muscle uses the excess glucose from insulin resistance.
He did talk about the down side of weight loss drugs. They can contribute to loss of muscle as well as fat. They can also have an effect on your bones.
Eating a ketogenic diet without enough calories (fat) can also contribute to muscle loss.
Stress can also create insulin resistance because it increases the amount of cortisol in your body.
I am looking back at DrewB getting an auto immune disorder. I think this was partially created by stress. I remember saying to the vet about the time she was diagnosed we had gone through a stressful period. Dogs can have high glucose levels too due to diet, pesticides(think flea and tick, heartworm meds), stress, and lack of exercise. Dogs and people in the same household can also suffer the same illnesses due to environmental factors.6 -
My scale is buried under bathroom construction debris so I don’t know if I weigh less this month but I’m guessing “no.”
So mad at myself … made a bolognese sauce yesterday for dinner and made enough for freezing for several meals. Except I accidentally left it out on the counter well past safety guidelines. I had to trash it.
It was 8 degrees this morning… enough already.

Morning, my chickens,
Hope that March is, in its infancy, treating everyone well.
Re: So incredibly good to see you, and so sorry for your loss. Pop in occasionally and let us know how you are when you can, no pressure at all. You were missed!
My performance against February goals
❌Stay in my maintenance range - 155-160 - Nope. I'm 161.6 this morning. That is, unfortunately, also 4 pounds higher than I was February 1.
✅Stay on the healthy track - Yes! I exercised all but the last day of the month.
✅Stay in budget - Yep. Pleased with how much of our savings I was able to recover in February, after early payoff of the car in January. Will try to do the same in March, but it's looking like there may be a few more money suckers headed our way. We'll see. Will honestly be pleased if we get through March without having to dip into savings.
So - March goals:
✅Be lighter at the end of the month than the beginning
✅Be healthier by exercising more days in March than in February
✅Stay in budget
Happy news, I just went over 2,000 total views for my videos! I'll be playing with those all through March as well. Still chugging along with posting one a week.
Did finally get all the rugs bound and in place in both bathrooms, pleased with that - they took up a lot of space in my work room. Time to turn my attention to a few other things on my sewing table.
Hope it's a good Sunday for all. We're going to attempt Chinese dumplings tonight, one of my favorite things Corey makes. I love it when he gets in the kitchen and simply has fun with cooking. Cooking stresses me out, and the more complex it is, the more stressed I am. He's so much better at balancing all the things...
Later, my dears,
Love y'all,

Barbi, thanks for the new month.
Lanette,I just love time walking outside as the sun comes up. Lightens my whole day.

Lisa, Rita, Carol, Barbie, Carla, Debbie, Rebecca, Okie, Heather, Lanette, Allie, Margaret, Michele, Machka, Beth, Kylia, thanks all for the birthday wishes!
Birthday yesterday was just right. Joe surprised me with a second box of See’s dark chocolates. SIL called and sang Happy Birthday. Took all 3 dogs to the powerline before taking Mooch and Shadow to dog group. While at dog group dear friend called with bday wishes. Then all the dog group people sang Happy Birthday. Later my half sister (who I met when we were in our forties) called and we had the most wonderful long chat. I really need to reach out to her on a regular basis. Finished off the day way over indulging in red wine and chocolates. OK that’s enough!!!
Rita, the day before my birthday I had prime rib at the Elks. It was the first time I’ve had prime rib in years and I enjoyed every bite, then packed up all the fat (about 4 oz?) for the dogs, and what was left made 2 x 3 oz servings for the freezer.
March here came in like a marshmallow. A bit of sun in the morning, then fog, then rain but not blustery. SIL said that meant March would go out like the campfire the marshmallow was toasted on. . . blazing hot!
Started this tome yesterday but then timer chimed and I did “drop everything and” took dogs to powerline. Today it’s Tummy Time, shower, church, and dogs to powerlilne. . .maybe playing in the dirt before tackling the laundry mountain.
Later, lighter, lovelies!
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
March focus: OMG room
2025: Chose NOW: to move more than yesterday (drop everything and dance!), fuel better than yesterday (maintain better than 50% AF days/month, reduce after dinner sweets to one piece of dark chocolate), open heart and mind before mouth.4 -

RE - welcome back!! Sounds like you are super busy. We haven't heard from several of the ladies that were in the group back when you were here frequently. JanetR, for example. Sorry to hear about your DH's passing and Heather is right, several of us have lost our DH's in the past few years.
So now we are making our own health a priority, like you are doing.Wishing you the best and stop by often if you can.
Beth - are you happy with your food box - do you think you'll keep getting one? The produce stand I'd go to every summer is no longer - the barn where he set up has been torn down. But when I went to the feed store the other day, I noticed another one has popped up on the main road that seems to have a lot of the same fruit and veggies grown in Eastern Washington per their information on FB. Not much traffic, easy parking sounds like my kind of place.
Rita - enjoy your birthday week Prime Rib! Good to hear there are options in case you need to move your motorhome to a temporary new spot while you are looking for the best place that will suit your needs. Moving is stressful enough without having too many things up in the air.
New Thrift Store/Food bank - I found a new thrift store in a small town just past the feed store. I used to take Master Gardener classes in that area years ago, but don't go that direction anymore. This store not only takes the regular thrift store items - clothing, small appliances, games, etc., but also have a little food bank.I have quite a stack of items on the bed in the spare bedroom and my pantry is overloaded, so time to clean that out a bit. This little thrift store is run by volunteers, proceeds stay right in the community to help those in need.
I used to drop off clothing at a thrift store in town - they opened at 9, it was very convenient. Now, they have moved to a part of town I rarely get to, they open at 10 and only receive donations a couple days a week.
And as far as food - I used to drop off extra canned goods and pantry items at the "free box" outside my dog groomer's building, but that has been closed down due to people using it for a garbage dump! So this is great. And a beautiful drive to boot when the sun shines.
Reminder that tomorrow is "Check-In" day for those of you participating.

This morning seemed like the perfect time to get myself out of the door for a walk.
Frosty night, and the rime was still on the cars, but the sky was blue and no wind
As you know, I find it difficult to get out of the house, but if I go first thing in the 'cream of the day' I can do it. No wash or teeth cleaning, as I thought that would deter me. Just a big pair of sunglasses and some sunscreen.
Absolutely gorgeous.
As I have done so little walking recently, I limited myself to 1.4 miles there and back. The sea was so calm, and people were swimming!
After a linger and a sit, I returned via the deli. As I arrived, the bakery van drew up, so I secured the freshest possible artisan bread. Eggs, salami, hummus, and some gf gnocchi for Edie. Himalayan salted dark chocolate.
I arrived home in fine fettle. 🙂
I texted a couple of friends and L rang back, still in her bed!!!
So, a good day. Broccoli and feta fritatta for dinner. Enough left for tomorrow's lunch sandwiches.
We have the same weather for the week ahead, so, watch this space!
