Hi Sherri, I am another 60 yr old girl, hoping for 35lb loss by the end of july. I'm trying 1200 daily low carb calories which is quite restricted but having foot surgery next week will present the perfect time to be disciplined in my 12 weeks of no weight bearing. My blood sugar crept up to an uncomfortable level and I am determined to lower my A1c without the meds. Keepin' it old school.🤞

@Sherrynavarrete3589, hello and welcome!
I can relate: I used MFP to lose around 50 pounds at age 59-60, now 69 and hanging around here to continue at a healthy weight and keep my head in the game. IME, reaching a healthier weight improved my quality of life, and I hope it will the same for you. That can make an enjoyable life even more enjoyable!
@indiacolors, a time like that can be good for learning and practicing things like logging food that will contribute to long-term success. In addition, the nutritional tracking side of MFP can help ensure getting the nutrients needed for speedy, successful healing.
That said, I'd encourage you to stay close to weight-maintenance calories in the early stages of healing, unless your doctor has explicitly approved a different course. I stayed with a calorie deficit - kept trying to lose weight - after a laparoscopic surgery during my weight loss. That was a bad plan. Fortunately, my body did prioritize healing well enough to succeed at it, but I got weak and fatigued, then took several weeks to fully recover normal strength and energy. No one needs that.
For me, that was a learning experience. These days, I stick close to maintenance calories if I am ill or recovering from injury/surgery, even if I'm otherwise trying to re-lose a few pounds in weight maintenance. In fact, I'm doing that now, recovering from a skull fracture back in November, giving it extra time because bones heal slowly, and I have osteoporosis besides.
Please be cautious!
