Sure, I'd accept a friend request. I admit, now that the newsfeed is also gone, all that being friends does is let us send each other direct messages or look at shared diaries, but I'm open to that.

As you might've guessed from my ID, I actually am Ann 😉, and I live in about the palm area of Michigan's lower-peninsula mitten. I used MFP to lose weight a few years back, around 50 pounds, and now hang around here to maintain and keep my head in the game to help accomplish that. I'm an on-water rower, machine in Winter because no choice, and also do some cycling - same indoor/outdoor seasonal approach. I'm also vegetarian, have been for 50+ years. Now age 69.

Welcome to the thread. Please do post and let us know now and then how you're doing, and for sure post if there are questions or any other things we might be able to help with.

When I go to the group search and enter,

    60 yrs and up

the search bar tells me this group does not exist. Nor is this group listed under My Group. Even though I have posted here the only way for me to find this group is to either bookmark it or look under notifications. Any suggestions?

It's not a group, it's a thread, in technical terms.

Bookmarking and notifications are the only way I can think of to suggest you find it, unfortunately. Often, it's on page one of the Introductions section someplace, but not always, depending on how often we post.

    Welcome back @bobbinalong

The Friends Newsfeed was discontinue last year having “friends” serves no purpose now, unless you want to PM someone In fact, you’ll find pretty quickly that any new friend request you get is either coming from a romance or crypto scammer My last 19 have all been fake profiles with no user or posting history. I ignore or delete their requests.

you can search Groups to find one that fits you but my own experience has been, they wither on the vine quickly.

Right now, the best interaction is simply to participate here, on the boards. New blood would be very welcome.

Congrats on retirement. I ultimately decided to treat improving my health as my “new” full time occupation.

    Much success to you!

    Thank you :)

The only friend requests have been random males as you described, lol. I am happy to be here and after looking through the different groups, they are mostly like you described. Thanks for your input, it helps clear up questions!

Welcome @bobbinalong ! Yes, this 'group' is not a group, and is reasonably active 🙂

I just celebrated my 65th birthday, and my daughter treated me to this trip 🍾, I have been retired 4 years and loving every minute of it 🙃 ❤️

@springlering62 - love the weaving, what an interesting trip you were on. Was it a group thing through an organization? I am looking for a small bag on this trip to replace one that came from Ecuador many years ago, with broken zippers now that is beyond me to replace 😔. It has served me well.

@BCLadybug888, what a beautiful view, enjoy every minute! Such a cute bag, may the next be as joyfully endurable!

How do you make the names highlighted? Thanks for teaching me the ropes!

@bobbinalong - you start with the at sign and start typing the name. A menu should start to show up, and you can click on the name. But it sometimes doesn't work. Kind of a pain and another problem with the new editor. In many ways the new editor is great. In some ways, it really slurps. I write slurps because I think the filter might not let me write about sucking.

@SbetaK yes, my daughter is with me. We stayed at this hotel during Covid and chose this style of room in case we were quarantined!

I am so sorry about your son, I can barely imagine your loss and grief, my sincere condolences 🙏

@SbetaK e-hugs to you. I’m not as graceful with condolences as @BCLadybug888 but so terribly sorry for your loss.

I treated myself to an electric frother yesterday. What a complete and utter disappointment. Returning it. I get far better results with my Ninja hand pump frother.

Tried making fried plantains last night, like the cooks at our hotel showed me. They were OK but clearly not ripe enough.

I have a crazy idea that fried plantains would make a simple but amazing ice cream with some yogurt. They are so naturally sweet and caramel-y tasting when cooked extra ripe.

I’ve been down the weaving rabbit hole all week. I’ve decided to start out with some simple friendship bracelets and then try a bead loom, and then work my way up to an “inkle” loom a friend suggested. You can make belts or straps with it. I also asked the caretaker at the gym (I leave her flowers in the dressing room occasionally with a thank you note “for the hardest working person in the gym!”) if she knows of anyone who does back strap weaving and that I’d happily pay for lessons. She didn’t know what I meant until I showed her a photo and she flipped out. She has a friend who still weaves a lot of her own clothes and is going to see if she’d like to give lessons.

I don’t know why in have such a sudden compulsion to weave. I did discover recently that the great-greats were weavers before they left Europe. Maybe there’s something to “learned” heredity?

@springlering62 - I think there may be more to heredity of interests, abilities and personality in our genes than we suspect, or would like to admit…especially in our individualism-worshipping Western culture!l.

I know that one of my brothers very much favours a grandfather we never met (died decades before he was born) in character and habits!

And I started selling insurance with absolutely zero knowledge that my Dad, who worked in the shops for the telephone company as far as I knew, had in fact sold insurance in Scotland before emigrating, 10 years before my birth. And my son migrated from service advisor to the warranty administrator at the dealership - and interpretation of warranties is very much like understanding insurance policies! Tomato/Tomato.

In highschool my son chose, of all things, a trombone to play in the band - only to find out my Dad's brother (who died in WWII) had played the trombone.

Quite a fascinating thought really, that weaving may well be in your genes!

I vaguely remember getting an email while I was gone that MFP had Big News! coming soon.

Have I missed something? Haven’t seen anything new.

I had faint hope it would be a newsfeed replacement. As if.

my list of potential honeys, I mean “friends”, keeps getting whittled down.

I assume they’re getting reported. Yay, MFP for deleting these jokers.m!

our wonderful little closet sized Italian bistro, owned by “real” Italians, has introduced gelato, Nutella doughnuts and bread they slip a scooting and then toast in the pizza oven.

They also got this granita machine marked “Crema da cafe” (or close enough). Raphael gave me a sample and it was divine, but then he sadly told me that since I count calories (he’s lost a substantial amount of weight, too, which is how it comes up) , I won’t be happy.

So I am attempting to replicate it for the ice cream maker. Espresso is cooling off, I’m going to add sugar til it’s tolerably sweet, some whipping cream, vanilla, and ice cubes. Hit it with the Nutri-Bullet, freeze, and run on the sorbet setting tomorrow. Am hoping to achieve about 175 calories for half a pint. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I suppose as a granita, I don’t even need to freeze it but knee jerk. Everything goes into the ice cream maker.

The plantains are also black enough they should be ready to fry for an experimental batch of fried plantain ice cream. That should be very heavy on caramel notes, am hoping for a dulce de leche type flavor.

and since I had to make espresso in the Aeropress for the granita anyway, I’m treating myself to a mid afternoon black coffee with my Nugo bar. Heaven!

    @BCLadybug888 What a beautiful view!!

@bobbinalong Welcome. I've been in this "group" for a long time but haven't been on here very much in the last couple years. Mostly it's because I've joined the 5% challenge & have been an active participant in the Red Hots team since last summer & it's gets to be too much for me to be on here for a longer period of time but I do like to check in now & then. We're in between the seasonal challenges right now, the Spring one starts on the 12th. I started actively in 2016 & lost 50lbs. I maintain in a range of 4lbs above or below my weight & I've been on the lower end but this winter I'm on the higher end so I'm working on that. I got laid off my full time job of 15yrs , along with many others, in 2013 but worked part time as a care giver which I retired from last year

I've been having a problem with looking for foods for months now, in the regular search area it says "error" all the time so I have to either look it up in the data base or make a recipe for it. Very annoying & yes, I too get friend requests from men pretty often

    @Evamutt

Under the food diary search you get the "error" message? Would it be that the app needs to be deleted and reinstalled to reset? 🤷

@bobbinalong I do sign out of it & sign back in. I log on the computer. Also when I get a friend request (mostly from men) if the choice of accepting or not(it's always not) is on the side, I can't choose, if on the bottom I can

the fried plantain ice cream is a winner! Tastes like caramel, and came out very creamy.

I used plantains, coconut oil, plain greek yogurt, water and a little brown sugar.

@cantstopher, I too should've been at my goal weight by now, or an awful lot closer at least…but I'm not giving up - this time it's FOR LIFE!

But I am down considerably from my all-time high, and slowly coming to grips with what lifestyle I need to lead to not only lose, but maintain also. That I feel is the critical part. Or actually, I guess they're both critical 🤷 🙄 😅 🙃 🙂

@springlering62, that ice cream sounds so yummy I am salivating and considering purchasing an ice cream maker! And I am not even an ice cream person normally 😋
