@mfowler883 Thanks!
Phlebotomy is an awesome profession. I've considered it myself. But, I'm on the north side of 60. So it's really not a possibility. With more practice, I'm sure your son will do great. I really love the medical professions and I wish I would have pursued it myself at a younger age.
I do have whiskey in the house right now…about a half-pint and I'm getting ready to go to bed. I'm going to try to just drink that in the morning and not get anymore. I have to stop it sometime. I'm not at the point where I get the shakes or anything. There were times in the past when I had to pick my glass up with two hands because I was so shaky.
Anyways, I'll see you all tomorrow…Have a good night!

AF - 6
A - 1Didn’t walk due to rain yesterday. Asked my husband to roll/rub my IT band to see if that would help with some of the pain, and it did. There is still hip pain, but I realized there was extra pain because my IT band was too tight. I slept better last night, but still up at 11:00, 2:00, and 4:30 with the pain.
Haven’t logged food since Friday, I think. Need to get back to it today.Work has almost become non-existent because management was trying to transfer me to my new position, but that start date changed to June 1. So, my days are really slow right now.
Have a good Tuesday!

@SurferGirl1982 We have plenty of inspiration in this group. The question is, do you gain inspiration from this group. If so, stick around whether you've got an AF day or not. It will come!
@mfowler883 Thanks for your input on the market. Good advice.
@itladyee Try to stay away from the news. They get paid to scare you. Be picky with your social media, too. I know, easier said than done.
@MissMay Happy 1/2 year anniversary!! What a feat!
@margim5 Great job not drinking at an activity that you're used to drinking at! You still had a good time. That proves it's a habit that can be broken.
@NonnieDoiron I hope you figure out your hip situation. Are you on a good fish oil? If it's the hip joint, fish oils are supposed to be really good for them.
@Michieb125 Congrats on the weight loss!
I'm still holding on with 7 AF days in April. I grabbed some groceries on Sunday and the pull to the wine aisle was strong, but managed to divert and stay clear. I don't even LIKE drinking once I start. I just have to remind myself of that.
Make today great, all!!

@SparkSpringtime69 thanks for your encouraging words. My mood improved since the weekend and I got better sleep. Did not drink and forgot all about it.
How well I stick to goals in general is so mood-driven and feelings-based for me. What affects my mood the most is uneven blood sugar and not getting enough fun time in my day. Going out for a run to rack up some fun time minutes right now.
I appreciate the info posted about sulfur, didn't know that. I will say I have been experimenting to get rid of my joint pain using vital protein chocolate flavor (of course) collagen, 20g. And it's been a miracle. I don't like the taste or texture but I am keeping it up and it's my medicine. Morning stiffness - gone. Knee and Hip tightness and pain -gone. I was super skeptical and didn't expect anything. I also alternate been bromelain and omega 3s for anti-inflammatory support.
About hips - good to get imaging done if there is pain first and foremost otherwise every "expert" to say something different. I have bursitis flares and was told it's from alignment (stretching and 2 chiro visits helped that once), wearing worn shoes, muscle imbalances, how I sit on the couch at night watching TV. So I have to keep up the exercises and self-awareness and slather arnica gel on it when it starts to swell and scream.
Self care is a full time job!

I will die on the hill of “the glass matters.” How disappointing! A little flower or even a paper umbrella would have been a nice touch.

Thank you for pretty much writing my post for me today!!!
I hear ya, sometimes I pour wine, and about halfway through, I’m not even enjoying it anymore.

Only one glass of wine with dinner last night, which I am counting as less alcohol. I wasn’t able to play tennis today, so I plan to at least take a walk now that it finally stopped raining!

Good morning. After listening to whining all last night from an acquaintance of mine about why they could not even do some chair exercise to get some mobility I had to send that quote to her.
I have found you can not help those, who will not help themselves.
Yippee I dropped one pound after 9 weeks. Transitioning from flab to muscle. Going to be that 65+ grey hair with guns( big biceps) 💪

@chicbuc You're doing very well this month. Keep it up! If I ever get a streak going on…I hope I never drink again. It's not worth it! What motivates me most are facts…the harm drinking causes to our bodies or the benefits we gain from not drinking. Like the post that @Womona posted the other day. Even though I was aware of the first two points, it's nice to be reminded and have it fresh in your mind. It could make a difference between reaching for a drink or not.
I was looking back at my calendar and I did pretty good with my AF days in January (10 days). And I lost 6 lbs. In February, I only had 4 AF days and gained 1 lb. And, in March, I only had two AF days and I gained 3 lbs. So, I'm just 2 lbs down from the first of January. That should be motivation in itself. I will try my hardest to get back on track soon.
Well, I've got to go. Have a nice day everyone!

A - 1After my husband rubbed down my IT band the pain in my hip seemed to centralize. I could feel it yesterday, and it is definitely deep in the joint.
I had him rub it again last night before bed. I did not do any tossing and turning last night when I slept. I started on my side with a pillow between my knees. It hurt after a few minutes, so I moved to my back and just put the pillow across my belly figuring it would fall to the floor at some point. I woke up with it still on my belly. The good news is the pain did not wake me up last night. Hubby will now be on IT band rub down duty every night. 😉9 -
@MissMay agree people need to want to help themselves and and they need to believe they can do it. Too many people I run into - younger than me - say "I can't, I am too old for that". I even hear the "I can't's from my grown kids. Even my husband won't lift weights because he's "getting too old for that". Too many of us on this planet walking around with eyes half shut or eyes closed and not seeing the possible or believing the power within.
Off to work and an escape to the gym to feed my psyche. Still in AF and not drinking today for sure because bourbon won't numb what is going on and it won't fix the world or solve anything for that matter.

OMG 😁 Check this out.
While surfing for interesting mocktails I came across this info:
-There are several days and initiatives dedicated to encouraging alcohol abstinence, including World No Alcohol Day on October 2nd, and National Non-Alcoholic Beer Day also on October 2nd-
Do you know what this means? I was born to drink mocktails because my birth date is October 2.
Well there it is! 😃

April:
AF=3
A=5Started off the week well, yoga and tai chi on Monday and good calorie intake for the day.
Tuesday started good with step/sculpt class for exercise, and good calorie intake for breakfast and lunch. But, I went a bit off the rails in the afternoon/night - 2 large, iced cinnamon rolls for dinner and 1 1/2 bottles of sparkling white 😯.
Woke up this morning feeling quite crappy with a killer headache (of course) and canceled out of the yoga class I had registered for. Tomorrow is another step/sculpt class so my plan is to just have the two glasses of Korbel that are left in the bottle with dinner and then switch out to camomile tea for the evening.
I'm off to do my taxes for the rest of the day. Hope everyone has a great day!

@MissMay I love that quote!
@NonnieDoiron sorry to hear you are still having hip pain. Glad the IT band massage is helping.
I had that second glass of wine last night, but it was so delicious with the dinner my husband prepares. I am craving carbs like mad, so that is not a good combination!Planned drink tonight after work. I’m only going to have one glass of wine and nurse it at the restaurant. I have got to rein in the delicious carby yumminess today. Not that eating carbs is bad, it’s just that my macros are way out of balance lately. I need much more protein than I am consuming.

LA yesterday, one beer at the end of the night. Stopped at the grocery with the boy after picking him up from his class, grabbed one for the night and a six pack of NAs that I hadn't seen before, Shiner, no idea if they're any good. Shiner can be hit or miss, especially depending on your mood. I also found big containers of different types of mushrooms, they had hen of the woods, lion's mane, shiitake and king trumpets. I grabbed a pack of the king trumpets just to try them out, since apparently they're basically an overgrown variant of oysters. Pretty tasty, I chopped one up and sauteed it with some bacon crumbles before scrambling it into an egg with a little Iberico cheese. DELIGHTFUL. Now I'm looking at oyster grow kits on amazon, for about $20 I should be able to grow all the mushrooms I can eat - the initial colonization should yield several flushes, and when it tapers off, I can propagate the mycelium in new substrate which is cheap and easy.

I know I've said it before. But, come heck or high water, tomorrow will be an AF day for me. I'm tired of it and I don't want to spend another summer drinking every day.
I'm going to quit drinking and starting eating normal (healthy) again. When I'm drinking, I don't feel like eating and then eventually I'll be starving and I'll eat anything in site (usually not healthy).
And I'm going to start being more active and exercising again. Although, I will have to gradually work into walking, my floor exercises, strength training, and stretching. Daily drinking has taken a toll on my physical fitness.
@mfowler883 The mushroom growing sounds interesting. I did look at the kits on Amazon. The one I looked at was in a box. After the two crops that you get from the box, what do you grow them in? I never did check out Morels online. Maybe, since I'm going to stop drinking, I could walk around the woods and see if there are any around here. I do know what Morels look like, so I won't be afraid of them. Maybe I can ask around too.
Have a nice day everyone!

@mfowler883 I did look up Morels. They do grow in this area and in forested areas. They seems to prefer certain trees. But they seems pretty picky about their environment…kind of like Goldilocks…not too hot, not too cold, moisture, some sun, different facing slopes 😱 If I ever decide to go mushroom hunting, I'll let you know.
Have a great day!

I was planning an AF day….but you know what they say. Man plans and god laughs.
Grandson wrecked his (minibike? motorcycle?), not sure if he hit a car or a car hit him. Broke his leg in three places. I'm not happy at the level of irresponsibility on the other side of the family right now, this could have been far worse. The grandparents didn't have him wearing any protective gear, not even a helmet. I might think bicycle helmets are a little overrated depending on the kid (we learned pretty quick not to fall on our heads) but motorized stuff is a different case. So yeah, I might have made my thoughts known and now I'm the bad guy. Oh well. I really don't care what they think of me, I care about my grandson's safety.
And of course when tensions run hot, I crack.

@NonnieDoiron glad to hear you have had some relief with your hip pain.

Ate out last night and finally saw an item back on the menu that was gone for months. So I ordered it.
Wow, just like a drink, it was not as good as I thought it was going to be or as I thought I remember it tasting. Of course way to much sodium.
Upside was Heinekin00 in my glass.
Have a fantastic Thursday.
😁

@mfowler883 Prayers for your grandson but you're right! It could have been so much worse! Always helmets for kids on motorized anything!
I drank a lot of wine last night and feel like death today, so I'm climbing back on today, for sure!

Already April 10th and posting for accountability! My best laid intentions for an AF last night went out the window! The weather was 75 degrees in the early evening and a rosy orange sunset adorned the sky. I was intentional and stopped to purchase a favorite Pinot Grigio I used to buy a few years back. It’s 11.5% ABV so I’m counting it LA as it is less than the expensive 13.5% ABV Chardonnay that I have been drinking lately. It’s very light and I had no sleep disruption from it.
Choosing NA today - I’m excited to start a new book and get to bed early tonight.
Going on a long walk to make time to reflect and reset!Current:
AF - 3
LA - 2 (for Pinot Grigio or Prosecco)

@mfowler883 So sorry to hear about your grandson. Prayers for his speedy recovery. I thought helmets were mandatory in all the states at this point in time. But I guess not.
I'm personally not a fan of motorcycles. But I think women have that opinion more than men.
I had a friend in high school who was horsing around with his buddy before school. My friend had a horrific accident. He was 16 and owned a 125 Enduro type (mostly a dirt bike, but was street legal). He and his friend switched bikes. His friend's was smaller (possibly a 60cc). Anyways, they were going pretty fast in front of the high school and a corvette made a quick turn into his driveway. My friend didn't even have time to brake. He flew about 100 feet with his head hitting the curb without a helmet. He was in a coma for a month or more and was never the same afterwards. And I've personally known quite a few other motorcycle incidents (one schoolmate was actually killed). And, it's weird when you're in your early 20's, sitting in a Jacuzzi, and your friend asks you to hand them their leg.
@chicbuc I'm sorry you're not feeling well today. I'm still not on track. I'm not going to make any more predictions…it seems to jinx me when I do.
Take care everyone!

@mfowler883 keeping your grandson in my thoughts for a quick and full recovery.
@SurferGirl1982 Here in South Carolina there are no helmet laws, and most people I see on motorcycles on the road do not wear them.

April:
AF=3
LA=1
A=5I don't usually count LA days separate from A but, since what I thought was 2 glasses left in my Korbel bottle turned out to only be barely 1, I'm giving myself a huge pat on the back for not going to the store for another bottle, and switching out to herbal tea as planned. (I'll probably move it to the A line tomorrow)
I did a bunch of healthy cooking today, and prepped a few more things for tomorrow, so my eating has been and will be better than it has in some time.
I did not get my tax return done yesterday as planned - I did get about 5 other things done though (AKA tax return procrastination 😉).
See you all tomorrow, have a great night!

Yeah, on helmets, ya know wife slapped back with "what about all the times you've rode without a helmet" big difference is I'm not a kid, I'm an adult and got a lot of years experience, fast responses and good instincts that a kid like him hasn't had time to hone. Being an adult, I'm responsible for myself while being a kid, the adults in his life are responsible for him. So that felt like a desperate, feeble attempt to dismiss my criticisms. Not sure what he was even doing in the street, he should have been on dirt at his age. Either way, kids need to be wearing the gear. Spend enough time in the motorcycle world and you will quickly find that you know too many guys who've lost limbs or worse. Waking up to see the post about another one down gets old real fast, and while it will never take away the urge to ride, it's sobering, and the last thing I want is to get that message about my grandkid. "This isn't the time to have that discussion" no, this is EXACTLY the time, when the blood is still wet and everybody is still very much aware of how stressful a family member getting in a bike wreck is.
Then, she wants to drive over. Look, I'm not trying to be dismissive of his injuries, but it's a broken leg, he's gonna get some hardware to hold it all together for a few months and it sucks but he should be back home by tomorrow, and who's paying for this trip? It's not like we can just reach in a bag and pull out road food, gas, hotel, lost time at work, and whatever else and no big deal. And once again, I'm the bad guy for pointing that out.
Stress levels are still completely jacked right now…sorry for rambling, I don't even know what I'm doing anymore. Just being the bad guy, I guess. I need a break.
