Love running in the spring @martaindale, out on the trails, recreation paths, streets, everyone is very friendly and happy to say 'Hi'.
I'm sure it's a 'we're finally able to enjoy the nice day' vibe, but it's always a good thing.4 -
@martaindale thanks for that. Most of my aches are joint related, sigh getting old, no rest for the wicked🙄😏😂
4 -
Sorry today's run was so bad @yirara . Hopefully you'll get the timing/amounts worked out and more of your runs will be good ones. I am impressed that you get out there and keep running despite your issues.
You're doing great @John772016 .
@martaindale Glad you are feeling better and everyone was nice today.

I had a full day yesterday, so didn't post my exercise. I did a short treadmill run before heading out for the day. Avg pace was 12:14 min/mile. Avg HR was 118 with a max of 149 bpm.
After the run, I went to the gym for my personal trainer session…TRX, dumbbell row, seated diverging row, and hanging leg raises.
Then I worked at the daycare for 6 hours - in the one year old classroom. We had 6 littles. They are a sweet, but rambunctious group. After that, I had a church meeting to discuss music for the next few weeks. It was 7:30 before I got home.
Today, I had a lot I needed to get done, so was planning on a fairly short run. I did a run/walk of 3/1 min. After I got past two miles (when I was planning on stopping the run) I kept telling myself, "Just one more interval." I basically made myself quit at 4.25 miles (an hour) so that I would have time to practice music for tomorrow, do laundry, vacuum the floors, and clean the gutters.

I did a fancy structured run with my watch, 2.00 miles 17'04"
Afterward it gave some descriptions:
Step Cadence - Higher cadence is associated with higher efficiency and lower risk of injury.Stride Length - Shorter stride length is associated with higher efficiency.
Ground Contact Time - Lower ground contact time is associated with higher efficiency and faster running
Vertical Oscillation - Lower vertical oscillation is associated with higher efficiency and faster running
Vertical Ratio - Lower vertical ratio is associated with higher efficiency

Good morning everyone!

10.2/40 Completed for AprilFirst time joining-late to the party but better late than never. My goals are walk/jog more so than run but just basically to move! Eventually would love to work my way up to be able to actually run. Had really increased my “run” distance last year (probably more of a jog to most standards .. I got little legs 🤣 and not far) but hurricanes, holidays, work, and fatigue just 🤷🏼♀️ … did me in. Trying to get back in the routine of at least moving! It will only get better from there!

I got a run in yesterday between hospital visits to keep me sane and same today. They r doing lots of tests endoscopy, colonoscopy, mri, ct scan, blood, etc. I’m seeing the consultant 2moro morning but the doctor I spoke to on Thursday admitted their equipment can only see so much & so they r referring him to another hospital in Dublin which will take a few weeks. I’m expecting them to send him home tomorrow with a bag full of pills. Our health system is completely overloaded and it’s a sort of patch you up and send u on routine but I’m not going away this time until they resolve where his pain is coming from

@MJPitter It is good of you to show up here. Of course we all know consistency and showing up is the foundation of health, happiness, wellbeing, and vibrancy. It isn't always a first choice, but having this great core group of people here who show up regularly makes it a little easier. See you around.
@Mari33a He's lucky to have such a clear, committed mom who's seeing he gets all that's available. I'm hoping for a complete recovery.
@John772016 Springtime coming out of brutally cold winters must be amazing. I imagine being outside to run must be a gift after months on the machine.

Hi everyone!
I haven’t been posting (or running much) this past weeks. I obviously needed some time for recovery AND the kids are home on spring break and so a busy week it has been nonetheless. I thought I would post first, then catch up reading.
I feel pretty recovered and did my first run post race on the 10th, to assess the “damage”. I was still quite sore then and ran 8.5km. After another rest day, I did a short 3.5km run with my daughter on rollerblades. She is still learning, so that kept the speed quite slow. Today I did a 3km run with two of the kids on skates/scooter to the bakery and went out alone after breakfast to make it a 10k for today.
Next week the kids are still home but I’ll be able to run more. In my post-marathon haze, I signed up for my next marathon last Sunday night (yes the day of my marathon!). It will be in Frankfurt at the end of October. Frankfurt supposedly has a very fast and nice course and it ends on a red carpet ;). I am not ready to train for it yet, but it is nice to know I am not finished yet!
84.4/300km for April

…so, I’m caught up now :). I’m so sorry to hear about your job @kgirlhart ! I hope you find something else nearby that brings you more joy and that everything works itself out!!!
@John772016 That is such a funny story with your gps :).
@ContraryMaryMary It looks like you are in a really beautiful place having awesome hiking adventures and skipping the HM was a good choice!
@martaindale I’m glad you are feeling better!
@quilteryoyo Great job on your deadlift PB!
Everyone else, great running!!! I have been eating - lots - this past week, so I’m happy to get back into a more moderate routine with running and posting :).
5 -
@laurz9191 That post race haze will get you every time!! Glad you're bouncing back well.
Welcome @mjpitter!
Sorry to hear they haven't gotten to the bottom of the issue @mari33a. I hope you have better luck at the other hospital.

Sunny skies made it a perfect day for a run through the city. Was going to keep it to a 5K, but I felt pretty good when I was about 5K in, so kept going. Walked on part of two of the hills but managed to run the rest, which I was pretty happy about; guess the incline/decline work on the treadmill over the winter did help a bit.
It definitely feels like a gift to be outside again @chris_in_cal, I'm pretty sure I was smiling through most of my run today.
6 -
Hi everyone
@kgirlhart trust something else comes along soon
@MJPitter hello and welcome
Anyone I missed 👋
Did a short trail run today. It snowed again yesterday so brought the spikes out for this as there were still some ice from a few days ago. Danged rib still not 100% but ok to run in so being super cautious in slick conditions. Gotta love mountain weather
7 -
Welcome @MJPitter . You've found a great group to be a part of.
Hang in there @Mari33a . Great job on getting the run in. I hope they get him in to see other specialists soon and they figure out what is going on with him.
Thanks @Laurz9191 Sounds like you are recovering well. Hahaha about signing up for another marathon. Finishing on the red carpet should be fun!
Great recovery run @martaindale .
Glad you had such great weather for your run @John772016 . Congrats on such great work on the hills too.
Great pretty run @WarmJellyfish . You definitely want to be extra careful until that rib heals completely.

I ran 11 miles this morning, and it was a really good run. I was afraid that it would be tough because it was hot and windy. It was 72F when I started at 8:40 and 83F when I finished up. The winds were 17-22 mph. But the wind was only bad running straight into it, and it helped keep the temperature bearable. I did see a couple of dogs that made me nervous. I ran past their house and when I turned around to go back past the house they were standing around the driveway near the road. I debated going the long way and not passing the house, but it would have taken me further than I wanted to run and so I just went as far to the other side of the road as I could, and they didn't even get up or bark or anything. I think they were just interested in me going by, but I won't go all the way to their house again if I run down that road.

Well finally got my 10 miler in for the month. Started out very strong and thought I might get under an 11 min avg but slowed down the last parts. It was really perfect out but I did start before the sun was up when it was cool. 91.8 for the month out of 100 and 756 for the year so far. We had some excitement today with an explosion at a house about 5 miles away. It was so violent it shook my entire neighborhood and felt like a truck had crashed into a nearby home. I can't imagine what caused it - no natural gas there but kind of looked like a warhead hit the house. 24 HOUSES DAMAGED so you know it was massive.
6 -
Great long run @kgirlhart . I'm glad the dogs ignored you passing by.
Great running @SummerSkier . You are definitely Beta Howls. I'm glad no one was killed in that explosion. That's so weird. Glad you weren't nearer.

Morning all
Got in 5.0M at 10'37
Struggled a bit today. Lower back feels really stiff
6 -
Wow! @summerskier you'll have to let us know if you hear what caused the explosion. That's a big explosion to damage so many houses!
1 -
Hi everyone,
Still feeling quite weak, but ran 10.3km. I hope I feel stronger again soon. I am supposed to run our local HM at the beginning of April, but can’t imagine doing any speed/tempo workouts this week as preparation. Still in recovery mode. Perfect spring t-shirt/shorts weather.
@SummerSkier That’s awful about the explosion!
94.7/300km for April.

I was off from work because I was supposed to be in IL for a race this past weekend. It has been nice having a long weekend without anything scheduled. Went to a neighborhood trail today where 2 loops around the lake is almost perfectly 5 miles. It was pretty warm this morning but a breeze kept it bearable. My legs felt heavy this morning. Not sure why, but I kept a decent pace and my HR stayed down, so I'll take it.
Afterwards I bought new shoes! I was looking for a replacement for the machs. While they feel great, the shape of the toe box has changed with this new version and maybe my feet are also getting wider so they are rubbing my big toes, esp my right one. I got a blister and a bruised toenail, which are not problems I usually have. Anyway, I ended up with Asics novablast, wide. They feel well cushioned but springy so I'm hopeful they will work well as a replacement. I also bought new trail shoes. I've been trail running more since I got the camper van and have been camping more. I got the hoka speedgoat, also wide. Looking forward to breaking them in next weekend.

Just a short 3.1 mile run today. I got out about 7:30. It was nice, but there is definitely more traffic at 7:30 than there is between 5:30 and 6:30.
@SummerSkier That is so scary. Do they know what caused it?

April 2025 Running
April 2 - 5km!!!!
April 3 - 4km
April 10 - 3kmTotal for April: 12km
HELP ME RUN TOMORROW!!! I was going to today, but I was so busy at work with my co-worker on vacation, that I just couldn't find the time to get out the door. I wasn't able to tonight as I had choir practice at my church for our Easter performances this weekend.
2 -
@martaindale need new shoe PORN!!!!!
@tarun_yadavA hope the back is nothing serious….. you must have done some heavy beer lifting over the weekend.
@kgirlhart you are going to have to continue to get up earlier to beat the heat soon anyway. I find that even on weekends I have trouble sleeping in when I want to do a long run and it's going to heat up too much.
Welcome @MJPitter you will find us a pretty diverse and kooky group for sure.
@WarmJellyfish ribs take FOREVER to get 100 percent and just when you think you are there you sneeze wrong and BOOM back to the starting board. You are doing great tho with the challenges you are having.
@quilteryoyo forgot to say your weighlifting has been so consistent. Not surprised you had a dead lift PB … COngrats!!!!!
No real news on the explosion. Lots of guesses but it was too massive to be "a propane" tank blowing up. This one had punch. Got my 7 in today in 2 bites. Was not planning to run at lunch but I find it a tremendous stress reliever from work craziness and faster and more efficient than a walk. The moon was really bright this morning and the clouds were racing across it. The whole sky pre dawn had that BIG sky feel to it with lots of clouds almost lit up.
2 -
@tarun_yadavA Nice run. I hope your back feels better tomorrow.
You're doing great with your recovery @Laurz9191 .
Sounds like a nice weekend @martaindale .Yeah for the new shoes. You'll have to post shoe porn for us.
Nice run @kgirlhart .
@angf0679 Sounds like you might have to make yourself get up early enough to run before work. I have a hard time doing that, but lots of others do. Maybe you can be one of those. Since you went to choir practice, I hope that means that you're feeling better.
Thanks @SummerSkier . You're doing great with your running.

I had a doctor's appointment this morning - a 6 month check up. Everything looks good. I did ask about my ankle. He felt and pressed around and nothing hurt. He said if it hurts again to maybe go to the walk-in orthopedic and see what they say - maybe some PT would help. But, it hasn't hurt at all for a couple of weeks, so I'm hoping it's all better now.
I did my run on the trail around the hospital (doctor's office) when I got done there. I wasn't pushing the pace at all, except for a quarter mile toward the end of the run. The avg pace for the run (with some walking) was 12:23 min/mile. Avg HR was 142 with a max of 163 bpm. The quarter mile that I pushed the pace was at 9:40 min/mile.
From there, I drove over to the gym for my workout. Today was arms again. I did inclined bench press (the normal bench press was being used), push ups, ball slams, crunch machine, and dumbbell Y raise.
I had a couple of errands to run and then, after I got home, I mowed my lawn. Over 4 hours of active exercise today. Calories expended was 1,271.
