@quilteryoyo While you can find authentic Mexican food in TX, the predominant variety is tex-mex, which is 100% it's own thing. It's honestly one of my favorites and often the thing I go for when I am craving comfort food. Warm, cheesy, saucy and served with a side of refried beans and rice. We have tried places that were supposed to be Mexican or tex-mex while traveling and it's not quite the same.
Funny about the nest under the hood. Curious what built it.

I'm camping at Lake Somerville State Park this weekend. This park is great for trail running. There are 2 units connected by a long multiuse trail that runs along the lake. There are equestrian sites and the long connector trail is an old wagon trail. In smaller parks you really have to be paying attention for all the trail connections but here, once you get away from the camping areas it's a long trail with few offshoots. Less opportunity to get lost.
I used my new trail shoes. They are such an upgrade! I felt a lot more comfortable on loose rocks and sand. I could really tell the rubber was thicker and grippier than my road shoes. I saw several rabbits, some deer, lots of birds, and 1 snake that I didn't get a picture of before he slithered off. Google seems to support it being a broad banded water snake, non venomous, which is good because I almost stepped on him. Just didn't see him tucked in the grass and I was towards the end of my run so I was tired.
After I got back and showered I made a breakfast burrito and coffee and sat outside. It still feels pretty nice with a gentle breeze and some clouds cover. Going to enjoy it for a bit before it gets hot and I need to retreat indoors.

@SummerSkier "what sort of running shoes are you going to go for ? We will require photos."
I'm all alone here having the world's widest foot. I'm trying to discover a new option and may have found one. My last two both work, and there is this third new one so I am still weighting my options.
- $140 Asics GEL-CUMULUS 27 EXTRA WIDE (my current shoe)
- $140 New Balance Fresh Foam X 880v15 X-Wide(4E) (my last shoe)
- $150 Hoka Clifton 10 X-Wide
Then there is always looking around for seconds or last years models to lower the outrageously expensive price for these shoes. (And in the US I expect to see the prices continue to rise…I may buy two if I find a deal)
Last I checked here nobody ran in GEL-CUMULUS or NB 880. Has anyone ran in a Hoka Clifton?

This was either stupid or brilliant. Did sprint intervals, which went… ok-ish. Legs were still tired from yesterday. Right after the run I went upstairs, grabbed my car keys drove to Ikea, and sweaty and all bought a book shelf for my kitchen, drove home, finally drank and ate something. I know if I'd not done this I would have been annoyed about myself for days. But gosh, now I'm exhausted.

Birthday run today, happy it was a mild day so I could get outside. Was going to run a favourite trail for the first time this year, but found out it was closed, so ended up running through various side paths and eventually up a ski hill to get back to another path and streets.
About 1/2 mile from home at the end of my run, tripped on a curb🤸♂️, ripped up my knees and got a cut next to my right eye. Waiting to get some stitches now.🤕🤪

I've used both Hoka Clifton (9's) and Asics Gel Cumulus (25's) @chris_in_cal
Still use the Asics occasionally (they're old), liked them, though now using Novablast more often.
The Hoka Clifton foam gave out when they were still fairly new. Felt like running barefoot on cement. Switched to Hoka Mach 5's and preferred them.

Ok, I decided to build the Ikea shelf tonight even though I'm totally wasted. With two public holidays coming up I thought I'd rather annoy my neighbours with hammering in the evening than on a holiday (I think there are rules on that).
5 -
@John772016 oh no! That’s a rude birthday present 😫😖
Got in 8 this morning and crossed 800 for the year. This is nutz. I was not planning it but I seem to hit a stride about 4 miles in these days. 🏃♀️🏃♀️🤷♀️
@yirara good luck building the ikea thing.

Thanks @SummerSkier . I have had mice in the house and taken care of them. And, I've been getting a mouse every once in a while in the garage. If I ever see a "rat," I'll freak. I think it's odd that the nest was there at all since my car is NOT home that much. I don't know when it would have had time to do it.
@martaindale Mexican is one of my comfort food too. I HAVE to get the cheese dip. 😉 Glad you found a nice trail and that you love the trail shoes. Sounds like a great morning.
Great run @yirara . I hope you didn't overdo it. Good luck putting the shelf together.
Sounded like a good run @John772016 until you got to the part where you fell and need stitches! Oooch! I hope, otherwise, you had a Happy Birthday!
You are definitely Beta Howls @SummerSkier ! Amazing mileage for the year!

I played singles tennis this morning. It was a great morning for it - about 68F (20C) and high clouds. We just hit for a while and then played until she had to quit for a family thing. I lost 7 - 9, so you can see how closely matched we are. It is so much fun playing with her.
After I got home, I went out for a driveway wun. Tennis must have taken more out of me than I thought, because that was a really tough, slow run. My legs didn't want to move and my breathing was awful. Avg pace was 13:51 min/mile. Avg HR was 136 with a max of 156 bpm. I did manage a much faster end to the run. In my head I ran a fast quarter mile, but in reality, it was only 0.15 miles. I ran that at a 9:47 min/mile pace. I had to stop and rest on the way up the hill during the cool down walk, but I made it…didn't have a choice. 🤣
I came across the following on FB and thought you all might get a kick out of it.

@chris_in_cal I use the Hoka Cliftons, love those for the cushioning given the longer runs I used to do. Heel on them are so worn out but I still use them anyways.
@John772016 sorry about the fall. Makes for a great story laters tho.
@ContraryMaryMary love the photos! This trail running thing is addictive 😁Our mountains are still socked in with snow, so sticking with the foothills for now.
I do quite a bit of backpacking around here but been wanting to get more into fastpacking. Got to into ultralight nowadays, present pack is about half the size of this one.
Running thingy is slowly but surely(more slowly) coming back.
6 -
@chris_in_cal I have tried the Hoka Clifton. They were too soft for me, a bit heavy and warm, as is often the case with very cushioned shoes. They are not reactive at all. However, if you like super cushion, you may love them. I did not experience the foam breakdown like @John772016 but also only used them for very short easy runs. I also heavily prefer the mach but if you have very wide feet those aren't an option. I have a pair in wide and they are a similar width to regulars in the previous version.
@John772016 Happy birthday. That fall sounds rough. Stitches on your birthday is rude indeed!
4 -
Novablast and Mach 5....got it. Thanks, I'll go look for the extrawides.
Happy Birthday @John772016 You sure will remember this one. Hope you get well soon
3 -
Happy birthday @John772016 - crashing makes for a memorable one! Heal quickly.
My sister had a rat in her car @quilteryoyo but it didn’t build a nest - it chewed her brake cable instead. Luckily she discovered the issue before she had an accident
8km again for me. Lovely heavy rain for a couple of kilometres.

Its been crazy busy over here with kids home for Easter break and working on cars endlessly to try and get some form of personal transport happening. Kids go back to school on Tuesday and I can't wait! Maybe then I'll be able to find more time to get some WUNs in. I managed to get a treadmill WUN in tonight and it was honestly one of the best ones I've had this year. Managed to run for 3 minutes straight, which might not seem long to most, but I've struggled to get even 1.5 minutes straight. My HR behaved as well so that's even better!
6 -
Hello all.
Got in 7.49M at 09'39.
@quilteryoyo @SummerSkier thanks ladies!
Yeah. He s-cked. Just trading off his Hollywood stardom... Given I was on beers 6-7 and woulda laughed at anything... Fact I only laughed maybe once or twice , says he s-cked real bad.
Warm-up act was quite good. Middle aged woman... Talking marriage, in laws, teen son - probably more relatable for me.
Life in LA, his pet cat, getting buff for a Marvel movie... Material just didn't land for me.
Planning on going gym tomorrow. Last day and then I will cancel.
So see you all Tuesday. Have a lovely Easter weekend all

I did a short trail run before packing up camp this morning. I wanted to run the other direction because that would mean I covered almost all of the trails in this unit of the park. I didn't run the little side trails for lake access and connector trails but covered the major trails. My legs felt totally fine this morning while walking but once I started running I was stiff and my left knee was hurting. I could tell it was more related to hamstring tightness and figured it would work itself out so I slowly kept going. Around a half a mile it loosened up and the pain went away as predicted. The trails I ran this morning seemed less well traveled but otherwise very similar to the ones from yesterday. No snakes today. I saw some deer, rabbits, and lots of cranes.
I made sure to stretch when I got back to my van as I realized I forgot to stretch yesterday and that probably contributed to me stiffness this morning.

Hi everyone! It's been… awhile LOL I still recognize a few names in here.
I've been running off and on over the last few years but I want to be more consistent. Plus I want to do a 50K in January so need to get the miles up. Also, need to get in shape, lose a few pounds so I came back to my old friend, MFP.

Beautiful mountains @WarmJellyfish .
Wow @ContraryMaryMary . I'm glad the rat didn't cause your sister to wreck and glad there didn't appear to be any damage to my car from whatever critter was trying to live there. Nice running.
Congratulations on your awesome wun @CaityP27 !
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . Yeah. He must have been pretty bad for you not to have laughed at that point. 😯
Sounds like you had a great weekend @martaindale .
Welcome back @RunsOnEspresso !

@John772016 I hope you had a happy birthday in spite of the fall and stitches.
Welcome back @RunsOnEspresso, it's good to see you again!
@quilteryoyo I don't know if the Mexican food near you is Tex-Mex, or not, but Tex-Mex is the best!
I took yesterday as a rest day. We had our big family Easter get together. It was a great time and it was really good to see everyone, but the weather wasn't great. It was cloudy and rainy and then some thunderstorms came. But luckily everyone made it home before the tornadoes hit. This morning it was gorgeous running weather. I decided to take advantage of it and ran 13.1 miles. I doubt we'll have many more cool mornings, and we have more thunderstorms in the forecast for later this week, so I figured I'd get some miles in when I could. It was a great run!

Morning all
Got in 3.48M at 10'26.
Didn't have enough time for a gym session (need >1 Hr). Went for a shorter, chill run instead.
Hope everyone had a lovely Easter!
(I know some of you guys are church-going Christians; never quite distilled down to denomination - but if anyone's Catholic... Sincere condolences 🙏🏽)
As for me... Stretchy pants!
Going to eat here:
https://www.facebook.com/share/r/14fvN2LFgy/
Next social outing not till wknd of May10th so got ~20 days to hit undo on this horrible calorie carnage weekend.
6 -
Great HM distance @kgirlhart . Glad you had a great Easter celebration with family.
Nice chill run @tarun_yadavA . You aren't going to go out on your birthday? You're missing a great opportunity for more food carnage. I watched the video. Lots of food, but most of it didn't look appetizing to me. Sorry. I hope you enjoy it!
1 -
Happy Easter Monday everyone!
Am up to 101kms/150km goal. Did a 25lb ruck on sunday also and that felt good. Need to up the distance and weight more. Haven't been stretching enough.
4 -
I went out this morning and did 1.9 miles. I don't have my running total for the month. Currently oing easy because Vegas made my achilles sore.
I also weighed in and the results are not pretty. I'm at my highest weight but that's why I'm here, get healthy and hopefully drop some pounds/inches.
