@quilteryoyo While you can find authentic Mexican food in TX, the predominant variety is tex-mex, which is 100% it's own thing. It's honestly one of my favorites and often the thing I go for when I am craving comfort food. Warm, cheesy, saucy and served with a side of refried beans and rice. We have tried places that were supposed to be Mexican or tex-mex while traveling and it's not quite the same.

Funny about the nest under the hood. Curious what built it.

@SummerSkier "what sort of running shoes are you going to go for ? We will require photos."

I'm all alone here having the world's widest foot. I'm trying to discover a new option and may have found one. My last two both work, and there is this third new one so I am still weighting my options.

    • $140 Asics GEL-CUMULUS 27 EXTRA WIDE (my current shoe)
    • $140 New Balance Fresh Foam X 880v15 X-Wide(4E) (my last shoe)
    • $150 Hoka Clifton 10 X-Wide

Then there is always looking around for seconds or last years models to lower the outrageously expensive price for these shoes. (And in the US I expect to see the prices continue to rise…I may buy two if I find a deal)

Last I checked here nobody ran in GEL-CUMULUS or NB 880. Has anyone ran in a Hoka Clifton?

    April 2025 Running

    April 2 - 5km!!!!
    April 3 - 4km
    April 10 - 3km
    April 15 - 5km
    April 16 - 6km
    April 17 - 4km

    Total for April: 27km

    Goal for April - 140km 100km

I haven't run yet today, but I did get in over 10,000 steps doing my errands today (I was crazy to go into the grocery store but I was desperate for my cheese bagels) and gong to vote (I am Canadian).

I might still try to go out later today. I am off Monday and can always run longer on Monday.

I've used both Hoka Clifton (9's) and Asics Gel Cumulus (25's) @chris_in_cal

Still use the Asics occasionally (they're old), liked them, though now using Novablast more often.

The Hoka Clifton foam gave out when they were still fairly new. Felt like running barefoot on cement. Switched to Hoka Mach 5's and preferred them.

Ok, I decided to build the Ikea shelf tonight even though I'm totally wasted. With two public holidays coming up I thought I'd rather annoy my neighbours with hammering in the evening than on a holiday (I think there are rules on that).

    @John772016 oh no! That’s a rude birthday present 😫😖

Got in 8 this morning and crossed 800 for the year. This is nutz. I was not planning it but I seem to hit a stride about 4 miles in these days. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🤷‍♀️

@yirara good luck building the ikea thing.

Thanks @SummerSkier . I have had mice in the house and taken care of them. And, I've been getting a mouse every once in a while in the garage. If I ever see a "rat," I'll freak. I think it's odd that the nest was there at all since my car is NOT home that much. I don't know when it would have had time to do it.

@martaindale Mexican is one of my comfort food too. I HAVE to get the cheese dip. 😉 Glad you found a nice trail and that you love the trail shoes. Sounds like a great morning.

Great run @yirara . I hope you didn't overdo it. Good luck putting the shelf together.

Sounded like a good run @John772016 until you got to the part where you fell and need stitches! Oooch! I hope, otherwise, you had a Happy Birthday!

You are definitely Beta Howls @SummerSkier ! Amazing mileage for the year!

@chris_in_cal I have tried the Hoka Clifton. They were too soft for me, a bit heavy and warm, as is often the case with very cushioned shoes. They are not reactive at all. However, if you like super cushion, you may love them. I did not experience the foam breakdown like @John772016 but also only used them for very short easy runs. I also heavily prefer the mach but if you have very wide feet those aren't an option. I have a pair in wide and they are a similar width to regulars in the previous version.

@John772016 Happy birthday. That fall sounds rough. Stitches on your birthday is rude indeed!

Novablast and Mach 5....got it. Thanks, I'll go look for the extrawides.

Happy Birthday @John772016 You sure will remember this one. Hope you get well soon

Happy birthday @John772016 - crashing makes for a memorable one! Heal quickly.

My sister had a rat in her car @quilteryoyo but it didn’t build a nest - it chewed her brake cable instead. Luckily she discovered the issue before she had an accident

8km again for me. Lovely heavy rain for a couple of kilometres.

Ah…I was going to go to my gym and do some strength training today, and the gym is run by the Salvation Army and yes…they are close today. Guess today is a rest day.

My Pixel Watch 3 running function isn't quite as explicit as Garmin. Clicking 'stop' at mile mark ends up in strava as x.99 miles. Funny.

    Beautiful mountains @WarmJellyfish .

Wow @ContraryMaryMary . I'm glad the rat didn't cause your sister to wreck and glad there didn't appear to be any damage to my car from whatever critter was trying to live there. Nice running.

Congratulations on your awesome wun @CaityP27 !

Nice run @tarun_yadavA . Yeah. He must have been pretty bad for you not to have laughed at that point. 😯

Sounds like you had a great weekend @martaindale .

    Welcome back @RunsOnEspresso !

@chris_in_cal My Garmin does that too.

    We're glad you are here @AlphaHowls .

@John772016 I hope you had a happy birthday in spite of the fall and stitches.

Welcome back @RunsOnEspresso, it's good to see you again!

@quilteryoyo I don't know if the Mexican food near you is Tex-Mex, or not, but Tex-Mex is the best!

I took yesterday as a rest day. We had our big family Easter get together. It was a great time and it was really good to see everyone, but the weather wasn't great. It was cloudy and rainy and then some thunderstorms came. But luckily everyone made it home before the tornadoes hit. This morning it was gorgeous running weather. I decided to take advantage of it and ran 13.1 miles. I doubt we'll have many more cool mornings, and we have more thunderstorms in the forecast for later this week, so I figured I'd get some miles in when I could. It was a great run!

    Morning all

    Got in 3.48M at 10'26.

Didn't have enough time for a gym session (need >1 Hr). Went for a shorter, chill run instead.

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter!

(I know some of you guys are church-going Christians; never quite distilled down to denomination - but if anyone's Catholic... Sincere condolences 🙏🏽)

    As for me... Stretchy pants!

    Going to eat here:

Next social outing not till wknd of May10th so got ~20 days to hit undo on this horrible calorie carnage weekend.

Great HM distance @kgirlhart . Glad you had a great Easter celebration with family.

Nice chill run @tarun_yadavA . You aren't going to go out on your birthday? You're missing a great opportunity for more food carnage. I watched the video. Lots of food, but most of it didn't look appetizing to me. Sorry. I hope you enjoy it!
