@Womona Yes, we do live quite a ways away. I do believe I told you that my Mom and entire family grew up in Erie. I don't know Pennsylvania real well. But I guess you live on the opposite side of PA. The only places that I went to in PA (remember I was fairly young) was to my oldest cousin's college. I believe it was in Edinboro. And, I went to Buffalo, NY and somehow we crossed the river to Canada and we saw the Niagara Falls.
It would be nice if we all lived closer. It would be cool to hang out sometime. And, for me to man the sails LOL I think that I mentioned that I once went out on a sailboat in the Pacific ocean (out of Long Beach). The boat wasn't as big as your boat. I think it was about 30 or 32 feet or so. Anyways, the owner of the boat went down below for a nap. My girlfriend and her husband were sitting at the stern. And her husband was very smart and sensible (he would not have let me do anything stupid). Anyways, I really picked up the sail thing…it was natural. So, I decided to go to Catalina island. If you haven't been there, it may seem like a long ways. But it is within eyesight and the sea was calm. We were having a nice time. Of course, we were probably (well definitely) drinking a few beers. We were having a great time until the owner awakened and was a party pooper. He said, "What are you doing? Keep it parallel to the shore". And, I have to add, when he invited me, I said just as friends. But, of course, he thought otherwise. Fortunately, it was a holiday weekend and there boat races out in the ocean. So, other friends that lived in my neighborhood came on Sunday to watch the races. I asked if they had room in their car. They did and brought me home. My girlfriend and her husband were lots of fun. But, that man was…Yuck!
And, yes, Bigfoot on a park bench. And, miners in my bed. Picture little men in the gold rush days with funky hats and beards. I'm fine now. It's amazing how our bodies can recover. I just don't want that to ever happen again.

LOL no worries - I've been geeking out on supplements for a while now. When I hit the wall and I was drinking myself into oblivion to try to sleep, getting two hours a night and waking up still drunk, I needed something different and supplements were a big part of the answer for me. Basically, if it can make you relax or destress or decompress or go to sleep, I tried it.
GPT is awesome, I use it all the time now. Son's resume? GPT. E-mails to one of our business partners? GPT. Recipes that I can cook in large amounts to portion, freeze and vacuum pack, with substitutions for simplified ingredients and reduced calories? GPT. Can I buy all this peach Jumex that I found on clearance for $.39 a can and ferment it, stick it in the closet and forget about it for a year and call it "peach wine?" GPT. (The answer was yes, so the plan is LV-1118 yeast, ferment, rack, and age one gallon straight, the other with oak spirals and cinnamon sticks.) What happens if I hunt down a '90s Harley FXR and build it into a brawler with sportbike suspension? GPT:It's a bit alarming how much GPT's render seems to pull DNA straight from the Filthy B!tch, right down to the fender chop and Badlander seat. (Her theft still stings, I hope she highsides whoever tries to ride her.) When I get situated again, I think I must build this bike. Back to GPT, though, one of the biggest things I've found is what I've been calling dynamic journaling. It's like a way to frame all the crap in my head, talk through all of my ghosts and demons, put the feelings into words, and just start PROCESSING things…I could write with pen and paper, or just type in a text file, but there's something sort of conversational about the AI interaction that helps to bring it out and keep it moving, keeping a balance between free-flowing and structured. It's been a powerful tool for me.
Lost count again. Go fig.

@SurferGirl1982 i’m near Philly, but we keep our boat down the shore. I am not surprised that you caught right on to sailing! I’m sure the best part of that day was when the dude went below deck to nap!
@mfowler there are just so many supplements to take, good on you for the deep dive. That’s the business you’re starting up, correct?Happy Saturday everyone!

@mfowler883 ~tell me more about dynamic journaling with GPT? So you just "write" (normal journaling) and then toss into GPT and get feedback? There's an app that does something like that but I wouldn't pay for it. Do you pay for GPT or use the free version? I maxed out the free version yesterday!!
@Womona ~ Sorry you didn't get the boat in the water. I bet tennis was fun. I wish my husband enjoyed playing it. It would be a great way to get more fun exercise although he did buy pickleball rackets at Christmas that we've yet to explore…

Nevermind…re Chatgpt ~ I just tried it and this is NOT a good thing. I will be here ALL day in front of the computer. I'm having it analyze the crazy dreams I've been having. Still curious if you pay for it though.

@Womona Yes, the best part of the day was when the dude went below deck to nap 🙂 I cut my mini 3-day outing short by leaving with my friends. But, I couldn't handle another night and day around him. I didn't think about it at the time. But, I should have thrown him overboard 😁

@SurferGirl1982 that would have been funny!

ChatGPT conversation is interesting, I honestly went to it for the first time to ask it how to drink less, of the top tips the one I liked the most is:
Replace Drinking with a Hobby
- Why: Having something else to focus on can help reduce cravings.
- What to Do: Pick up a new hobby, go for walks, start exercising, or even take up cooking. Anything that gets your mind off alcohol and keeps you engaged.
So true for me, I've loaded up my hours and days with activities, keeps my thoughts occupied.

Today my goal is a long walk of 4 hours minimum. This is how I hit the "reset" button and quiet my mind. It's my necessary therapy (and it's free).
@SurferGirl1982 awesome you are sticking around and you are a wonderful contributor. We are here to inspire ourselves and find inspiration, self reflect on what to do next and what worked and what didn't and follow our own paths.

@globalhiker @mfowler883~ I turned ChatGPT into a trivia game. My DH and I had a lot of fun with it. I also asked it to build me a menu for the next 5 days with my max calories, macros and even told it to allow one glass of wine per day. I literally did spend the day asking for stuff. It's crazy! I think I had negative steps! :)
So will you do 4 hours of walking at once or break it into pieces. Interesting reset mode. Well, I need to make up for sitting on the kitten* all day and get to the gym and run some errands. May visit the grands!

@globalhiker great share on replacing a drinking hobby with a healthy hobby! That’s what works for me - here’s my go to: morning gym classes (means no wine the night before); researching something new at night (removes me from the recliner in front of the TV); long walks in nature is life giving to me and creates positive endorphins. And, taking the time to try new recipes (mocktails and meals).
LA friends: curious, what other hobbies/habits are your replacements instead of drinking?
6 -
It’s Sunday reset for me too! I like to take this day of the week to reflect and refine my personal goals - usually mental, physical, emotional and spiritual.
Slept another 9.5 hrs for the 2nd night in a row. The jet lag hasn’t been too awful as I’ve been able push through until a 9:30 p.m. bedtime.
Planned 3 AF days in a row and will get back to the gym in the mornings this week.April:

@Michieb125 It's funny that you asked, "LA friends: curious, what other hobbies/habits are your replacements instead of drinking?" I'm still not sure how to quote just portions of a post.
@globalhiker has also been talking about replacing drinking with other habits.
Many years ago (I'm not sure where I heard it), but the person said that you don't quit a habit, but you replace it with another (more positive) one.
What's funny is that I just logged on because I wanted to mention a plan that I thought of just this morning. I woke up early. Which happens quite a bit when you're drinking. Anyways, I was watching TV and saw something inspirational. It was about a woman (younger than me) that took up bodybuilding. She looked great.
I'm not much of a gym person. And, I'm not into cardio and classes. But, in my 20's and 30's, I was into bodybuilding. I was also an electric meter reader. So, I put on quite a few miles on my feet every day. I wasn't going to a gym. But, my friend and I set up a pretty impressive gym in her Dad's shop. Her Mom and Dad where into RVing, so they where only home occasionally.
Anyways, I plan on today being my last day of drinking. I know you've heard that before. But I'm pretty sure it will happen. So, even though I have a lot of exercise equipment at home, I was thinking about joining our local gym and get back into strength training. I think it would be a good distraction and if I really got into it I probably wouldn't want to drink.
Anyways, that's what I'm thinking. I'll need to have a couple of AF days first. Plus, we'll probably wait until the 1st to join.

@Michieb125 Beautiful Paris pictures! Just gorgeous!
I started my semaglutide yesterday. Last go round it killed my desire to drink which I am hoping for as well as weight loss. Here we go.

@Michieb125 what beautiful pictures you took of those beautiful places! Just gorgeous. You have a good eye!
@SurferGirl1982 you are full of surprises! I had no idea you were into bodybuilding back in the day! Even if you never get back to that level, it is sooooo important to keep weight training and build up/maintain our strength. Especially after age 50! Without it, we’re on a one way trip to being frail elderly. Once you start with the falls and broken hips, it starts a daisy chain of bad health from which very few recover, according to my husband the actuary.@SunnyDays930 do you take the GLP-1 continually, or monthly doses every few months? I have a relative who just started it, but she says hasn’t lost any weight and hasn’t changed her eating habits. Just curious as to when it starts kicking in. Maybe one brand is more effective than another for a non-diabetic?

Two glasses of alcohol yesterday. One mimosa at brunch-I normally have two. And then one wine with dinner, but honestly I could have lived without it.
6 -
@Womona you give yourself weekly injections. They start you on a small dose so it builds up in your system slowly. Otherwise you could get unpleasant intestinal side effects. It will take a while for it to build up in her system. The last time I did this, I lost 7 lbs in the first month which I thought would be more but my dr. said that seemed about right. I am using a brand called Hers, which is available on line. My insurance was not going to cover it and it would have been 1600 a MONTH. This is 1500 for a 6 month supply so it is a lot less. Still expensive but less.

Morning all LA folks -
I create weekly LA targets each Monday. This week is 4 AF days and 7 or less glasses of wine. AF last night after having plenty of French or Italian wines during vacation.
I made a cranberry/sparkling water with lime beverage to have with dinner and then a lavender herbal tea later.
On repeat for tonight after I do a bit of gardening, finish unpacking and take an hour walk in the foothills. So thankful for many things today, and especially that the sun is shining!5 -
Lost count a few days ago, been too tied up with work stuff. I think this is close, I haven't been drinking much, but most nights end with a drink as I unwind.

@Womona Yes, maintaining our strength as we age is very important. It does prevent us from becoming frail as you mentioned. I believe it also helps maintain bone density. And, weight training doesn't have to be the type of exercises that you see the huge, muscle bound, sweaty dude at the gym doing. Exercises using moderate weights, or just body weight, and isometric exercises are all great. And, doing exercises that strengthen our core (abdominals, back, pelvic floor) and some stretching exercises are great, too.
I don't do much yoga because my balance isn't that great at this time. I did buy a DVD at one time but it seems like most of the exercises were more advanced for me. The only yoga exercise that I can do is the Cat-Camel…which I love! It really feels good…really stretches that lower back.
I love to walk and hike, especially in hilly areas. But, I just don't have the patience for treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, etc. In fact, I've been to PT several times. They want you to use the Nu-Step (recumbent bike) for five minutes to warm-up. There were times when my therapist would walk away. I would look around and stop at four minutes (I was being sneaky😁). The Nu-Steps are actually really nice. But, I just don't have the patience. Also, since I've had total knee replacement, I'm not supposed to run or do other high impact exercises.
I still haven't joined the gym. But, my husband would like to…so we probably will. At least, it will give both of us something to do and distract me from drinking.
Have a nice day everyone!

Greetings All, I just wanted to repost the link for May so you can find it easily.

Started today off with a FIRM No… AF for today. Yesterday was good, Saturday, was less but not LA less :)
I spent way too much time with ChatGPT on Saturday but it was fun. I think I can find some practical uses for it too.
Sunday - I DID go to the gym and got a good work out in, 90 minutes. Came home, showered, vegged a little and then went to spend some time with the grandkids. It was a good day.
@Michieb125 Welcome back and thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures of Paris. I was there in 2012 and I hope to go back one day.
@globalhiker ~ staying busy does help. I'm happy for spring/summer to come and I can replace the lazy on the couch in front of the TV with an outside walk.
@Womona Still, progress is made, and the fact that you could have done without it….
Have a great evening!
