Thanks @chicbuc It's nice to hear from you. And, I do feel that you are thinking about me. I was just a bit worried that we hadn't heard from you in a while.
As I mentioned, I changed my username thinking I could just drop out for a while. But, all it did was change my username in all my previous posts. I was worried that no one would be able to know that I changed my username. But, obviously, it hasn't been a problem.
I woke up at 2 am this morning. It's just a little after 6:30 am here right now. So I do plan on taking a nap pretty soon. I think I'm about to get a handle on this thing within the next day or two. By the way, thank you for the prayers ❤️ It does help!
Have a nice day everyone!

@SparkSpringtime69 I know that you're not where you want to be with your LA goals. But, you're actually at 33% AF. As chicbuc always says, Keep on keeping on!

Sending positive thoughts to those who need it today. I hear you! A few of us are helping our elderly parents who are around age 90, me included. You are so good to help them out with their needs even when it’s super hard. I know that sounds like an understatement. I am the primary caregiver of my elderly mother, managing from a short distance. So we’re available to do all kinds of projects for her…..but my DH and I are getting a bit worn down. Going to see her on Friday to rearrange her bedroom for safety reasons.
AF last night and feel super good this morning after waking up with no refined or residual sugar in my system.

Good almost afternoon.
We did have dinner yesterday, and instead of two glasses of wine, I had a martini and a glass of wine with my burger.
@chicbuc ~ Thanks for your comments. It's really about being aware and then making the decision of what you will do. It wasn't that long ago that a bottle + was fair game on a daily basis. I'm happy to see progress. After book club (I did consider not having a glass of wine there) I really don't have anything that would be tempting…One day at a time!
@SurferGirl1982 ~ I missed your post when I updated yesterday, you mentioned there were no post on the 11th, It was Mother's Day so I think most were off spending time with family. As least I know I was :) I hope the vet appointment goes well.
@NonnieDoiron ~ I hope you get some downtime and some time for yourself. Sorry to hear about your husband's dad.
@SparkSpringtime69 ~ 25% is 25%. Take the credit and keep on keeping on, there's plenty of month left!

Since my last check-in, I’ve had (2) A days. I was really hoping to stay AF until the weekend, but on the upside, it was just one drink each time. Progress isn’t always linear, but I’m still moving forward. Sending positive vibes and support to anyone who needs it today — we’ve got this.
AF = 8

@globalhiker CONGRATULATIONS on your AF plane trip and visit with family! You're a huge inspiration to me and I'm sure others here. I totally agree about the self-care, we are the only ones who decide to practice either helpful or harmful habits for ourselves.
@NonnieDoiron I hope you get some relief from your overwhelming situations, hugs to you and I hope your daughter is doing better.
@LittleSurferGirl7 and @itladyee thank you for the encouragement - I got another AF day in yesterday!
@margim5 One drink each time is definitely progress. Sending positive vibes your way as well.

I heard some of you call alcohol "fat juice". That's new! That is quite memorable and I think I will steal that comment. Right now I could go for 4 glasses of "fat juice" please to numb my migraine (on day 2). But I won't and I will keep sipping my calming (possibly slimming) tea.
Note to self: focus on your blood sugar. It's been off lately and this affects your mood. Your mood affects your decisions and your motivation. Get more rest and get it together.
6 -
@globalhiker not sure what your usual 'alcohol' of choice was, but if it was wine I'm pretty sure the nitrates in that would NOT help a migraine. Also pretty sure no alcohol is good for lowering blood sugar (my SO is diabetic and gave up drinking years ago because it would significantly increase his blood sugar even if he just had one or two).
Curious about this 'possibly slimming' tea - I could definitely use a bit of help in the slimming area 😁

@LittleSurferGirl7 , I'm sorry I haven't been on this site. I can feel your pain and i can feel you are still in active addiction. I myself have been drinking a bit also. I know I need 5 days under my belt to feel free. Would you be willing to check in and do this together? I can see you seem to have reasons why you can't quit now and are putting things off. You seem to be delaying the inevitable. I understand that it may be unsafe for you to withdraw without medical help. If you could message each day and each day make a move toward quitting. Keep the nurse appointment, make a plan. I am not willing to put up with excuses and I want you to live. Please also do not put up with mine.

Day 1 for me people. Id like to say Ill have a drink socially here and there but that is not my vibe. Im an all or nothing kind of Gal. Love reading your posts. Its great to see some positivity and real talk around alcohol.

@Walktostaysane Thank you for your concern. But I'm actually doing quite well. I've been tapering off and I'm down to very little each day. The plan is for tomorrow to be my last A day. Saturday, at the latest. I agree at five days, I'm pretty much over it. For me, even after three days, I'm feeling pretty much normal again.
I haven't been posting because I have other things on my mind. My 17 year old cat, Tinker, has hyperthyroidism and hasn't been eating that much and has lost some weight. We love her dearly…she's our only child 😸. But we have a vet appointment on Wednesday. They're going to redo her labs and possibly adjust her meds. I saw on Chewy that there are prescription appetite stimulants for cats. But, who knows, if she'll take it? We'll see!
I actually said a real serious prayer for her last night and it's kind of amazing. Because she seems a bit better today. So, the prayers will continue! @chicbuc If you read this, could you say a prayer for Tinker?
I don't have a nurse appointment coming up. I had a super good nurse practitioner before, but she left the practice back in 2021. I now see a doctor (MD). I have an appointment with my retinol specialist in a couple of weeks. I had a problem with my right eye quite a while back and I'm still under his care. My eyesight has improved, but it's not perfect yet. My left eye is 20/20. I don't see my medical doctor until the end of June.
Anyways…Congrats on Day 1…Awesome 😀

Also, I'm planning on getting involved with @RubyRed427's 10-pound challenge. So, if you don't see me here, you may be able to find me over there.
Have a nice night everyone!

Not clocking today just yet but I need to get a few AF days in a row. I’ve just been in the mood for a drink….and the scale is showing it.
Monday, out to dinner, Tuesday, wine, Wednesday, book club, dinner and wine, Yesterday, it was 92, sat outside and had a glass of this watermelon infused wine, and then had wine with dinner. So, not over the top by any means, but daily is creeping in.
@globalhiker ~ hope that migraine has vanished.
@Walktostaysane ~ congrats on Day 1. You got this!
@LittleSurferGirl7 ~ glad to hear you are doing well and able to taper off. Glad Tinker seems to be doing better and I hope she continues to get better.

Been walking and exercising but need motivation to address the much needed calorie deficit required to shake off a few pounds. So easy to gain some! Always harder to lose…..
Heading out to see my elderly mother today and won’t be back until late evening. I always bring a nice lunch to prepare for us to eat together. Then my DH and I have a couple of projects to complete. But the visits are not as enjoyable anymore. That’s all I will say.
Have had a total of 7 glasses of wine this week so far which is less than the last 4 weeks at this time.5 -
Sending prayers for success to all of you! Still going AF strong here. 9.5 months done. Anyone who wants to go AF can totally do this, even if it's for a short term reset. My method was to basically replace wine with chocolate or hot chocolate or frozen yogurt - it just had to be a treat so my brain could get a dopamine hit of some sort. Replacement just felt better and easier compared to total deprivation. And tricking my brain with AF drinks. It helped me manage the discomfort. I think I tried them all (ritual tequila and a splash of OJ was decent). It worked and I lost many lbs. the first few months even with eating everything and anything. This probably wasn't the healthiest way to manage AF, or the cheapest, but it worked and I am way healthier than before.

@globalhiker thank you for another insightful message - I was just thinking this morning about replacements for my favorite A bevs. NA beer is great for my beer replacement, and seltzer or tonic with a small splash of some flavor seems like it will do the trick for sparkling wine. The red wine replacement is tricky, but I think I can do without it for a while.
Anyway, as always, thank you for the inspiration!
I hope everyone has a great weekend and upcoming week 😎

You are such an inspirational LA friend @globalhiker! Thank you for this post on how “AF can be done.”
I woke up thinking about the replacement idea you shared. In the past, I looked forward to Yasso Greek Yogurt bars instead of evening wine. I do great with the sparkling waters and N.A. beverages but you have me thinking about finding that ‘treat’ to look forward to so my brain feels happy. So, I’ll be heading to the store to pick up some of those froyo bars for tonight!

Well, I think I've got this. I did have around a half-pint of whiskey left in the house this morning. I kept it because I didn't want to wake up between 2 and 4 am without anything and regret it. I am drinking it to get rid of it. But I have no intention or need to get anymore. I'm looking forward to being AF.
Since I've been cutting back. I woke up twice to use the bathroom last night. But, I didn't get out of bed until 7:15 am this morning…very nice! I actually have a couple of small errands to run today. I haven't been getting out of the house much.
I'll report back tomorrow after 5 pm. The liquor store closes at 5 pm on Sundays.
Have a great weekend everyone!
5 -
Well, I went gambling and drank a couple of beers (I don't normally drink beer, but that's all they serve). Afterwards, I got a ride to the liquor store. And, I'm sure there will be leftover tomorrow. So, now I'm aiming for Monday. Oh, well!

After buying the whiskey tonight, it's kind of weird, because I don't even want it…just doesn't seem to be appealing right now. I guess that's a good thing.
I probably won't be posting on here too much. I have many other things that I'm concerned about right now. My cat has been eating better though and she scratched on her scratching post last night. Such a relief! Vet appointment on Wednesday. Fun! 😕
I still plan to participate in the "10 pounds to lose challenge". It's pretty cool. You can post as much or as little as you like (same as here). One person posted they were only going to post on the first and last of the month. I too plan on posting on the first and last of the month. But, I'll probably post weekly. I find it motivating and educational for myself. By weighing myself regularly, I can see what's working and what's not. Although, I know alcohol is my main problem. And, I actually starting logging my foods again today. When I log my foods, it makes me more accountable for what I'm eating. I've already done better with healthier eating today.
Have a nice night everyone!

Rough few days… had a couple of drinks (poma sours) and then a couple glasses of wine. A couple glasses of wine tonight….but need to get a hold of myself… While it easy the feelings at the moment…the issues are still there tomorrow….. I know this.
DH's mother is 95. And basically in good health, full mobility, mental clarity etc. Thursday night was bad weather so they retreated to the basement (two of her adult children live with her/another story). When the storm had passed, they headed back up stairs and she passed out. Word has it that she stopped breathing and they had to call 911 and the operator talked the son (late sixties for context) on CPR and how to revive her. He did and she did and they took her to the hospital. They believe it was a medical issue, the doctors had prescribed beta blockers and she had been taking 1 capsule, but then she read the direction and started taking 3….. At any rate, she's still in the hospital and they think she will be able to come home tomorrow. So this introduces TONS of family drama and my husband keeps saying she died…emotionally those words are devastating.
So he drove down Friday (they are about 90 minutes away) and I stayed back as I had an "all company meeting". Those last minute "all company meetings" are never good news…but rumor had it that one of the principals of the company was stepping down. Nope, nada, that wasn't it… Business is bad, yep…so it was a flash back to covid when we all were reduced to 10% of our salary. No, not a 10% reduction but 10% of our total salary…but that was covid…. Now everyone is temporarily being reduced to 50% of their current salary until the end of June and things will be reevaluated at that time. Well, I just voluntarily took a 50% cut to go to part-time in August and had just worked out the business plan for it to work……so now my 50% cut is now being further reduced by another 50%….
I've been stressing with the markets fluctuations and now this. I've decided,(for now) no more stress, I can't control it so I just need to make the best of it…. not sure what that means but that's where I'm at.
And then…. I offered to drive down to take my DH to see his Mom tomorrow as it is a long drive, I simply asked for him to confirm that he wants to go ASAP. Later on he asks Alexia, what time is it in Spain….just making conversation, he responds with a smart *kitten* remark… I didn't need that. I get he's stress and I am trying to be supportive but don't take your stuff out on me!
AND it was my BIL's birthday. I not sure I shared the drama there… my sister passed 1.5 years ago and he feels like he's the only one experiencing the lost. Called to wish him a happy birthday but it was not without stress.
So yes….AF was not on the agenda. So let me distract my mind and catch up on everyone else.
@Michieb125 ~ I hope your visit with your Mom went as best as possible.
@globalhiker ~ you are right about the replacement thing. I've got to start doing that…. The AF stuff doesn't do it for me…but finding something else considered a "treat"… I'm not a beer drinkers so the NA beers did nothing for me….although, on a hot day… maybe! I did do well with using low calorie fruit juice…. just got to get it back in the plan. I have been using those Poppi sodas as an alternative. I saw another brand at Sam's this weekend but need to find some single cans to confirm before I buy a pack of 24!
@tmbg1 @SparkSpringtime69 ~ I see ya'll… keep it up! Focus!
@LittleSurferGirl7 ~ your post sounds hopeful….staying tuned until after 5pm tomorrow. Good Luck to you!! Ok, Monday it is!
@Walktostaysane ~ How are you doing? May 15 was Day 1…let us know…. we are here for you!
@margim5 ~ How's it going? It's the weekend and I totally get that but I do see you are doing "less" and that counts too!
@NonnieDoiron ~ Hope you got some much needed down time… How did everything go with the visit to your Dh's family.
@chicbuc ~ Did you recommit to AF? and food choices?
Hope everyone else is doing well, Well or not..chime and let us know how you're doing!!!
Reading and responding has walked me off the ledge tonight…..thank you all. In bed by 11:00pm :)
