I ran 3 miles at the boyfriend pace this morning after weighted lunges, squats etc.
Welcome to all the new folks joining this month!

I am going for 50 miles this month and not fizzle out.

Ooohhh. Not heard of that Scandi drama!
On the last episode of "Your Friends and Neighbours" on Apple. Didn't think I'd like it (wife pick), but it's really good. We're going to move onto Sirens on Netflix after this as next couple watch.
Just finished 'Last of Us' with my eldest. Absolute garbage. Won't watch an S3.
Re-started Stranger Things again. This time with youngest - (nearly) 11 year old. He's heard all about it, and final season coming out later this year so I said I'd (re)watch it again.

From @SummerSkier IN the meantime my theme for the month is what netflix series are YOU watching or other series… etc.
I do not have any subscriptions, to anything. I do not watch movies, TV, videos. I never have. When we had 'tube' TV's, it would cause me such headaches, that I avoided it.
June 1 6.39 miles

Here we are @angf0679 @karina3 @clementine003 @swenson19d for the June Running Challenge.
It is the beautiful thing about this thread, like Groundhog's Day, last month's runs are a memory and we all get to start again fresh in the new month's challenge. Thanks for setting it up @AlphaHowls

June Running Goal: 33 miles
12.7 lbs.weight loss (203.0 lbs -> 190.3 lbs)
————————————————————I'm Chris; I live in San Diego, California.
After a year of battling one health thing after another my goal is to make it through June unscathed. I've signed up for a 5K which is in about a month (July 4th) I have a simple easy 5k training plan and I'm going to try and follow that. It is three days a week of running. I want to keep up with my newfound strength training routine for another three days out of the week. If I'm feeling plucky and want to flesh out a whole week I might add a fourth run.
I did jump back in and bought a newish Garmin, so please connect if you have one.
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/profile/chris_in_calI do like the Pixel Watch 3 I've been using for the past bit, but it is NOT designed with training plans for runners, and I like that stuff over in Garmin. The Pixel Watch weight training app HEVY is awesome. I feel silly flipping back and forth with watches so I'll probably end up back in Garmin's ecosystem. They just have everything there for fitness and training. All the "Smartwatch" stuff I find off-putting, and I just want to nerd out on running and training.

Just checking in for this month.
01.05 0km 00min 0:00/km - xxx
0.0/81km - 0.0km behind
I'm not sure what this month will bring as I'm away on a trip again on Friday. Wanted to run today but I either have a trapped nerve somewhere below a shoulder blade or pulled a muscle. Plus come afternoon a thunderstorm came in and ended up trapped above town. Not the right weather for running. Tomorrow looks better, and it'll hopefully be cooler again. I hope as I'm off to above the Arctic Circle :)

Hi everyone!
I am going for 270km or more this month including more speed work in preparation of our highly competitive city 5km next month (not that I will be in with the competition- there are soooo many speedy runners around here).
Today I went on a 9.1km run during my daughter’s swim lesson. I started off way too slow, then realised I was going to get back too late, so it turned into a progression run, with some pretty decent splits near the end. It was very humid out and I was about as wet as she was after swimming, so definitely not a good boyfriend pace ;).
9.1/270km for June.

Thanks for setting up June @AlphaHowls!
@daria0919 hope your husband's hip surgery goes well! You'll have to keep us updated on his recovery/pain progress. My brother is going to have hip replacement surgery in August so I have a vested interest.
@SummerSkier very sorry to see your foot injury! Hope it looks worse than it is.
My knee has been keeping me on the treadmill on days I feel up to it, and on the sidelines when I don't. Just hard to stay motivated when I know the inevitable pain will return. But I keep trying for some reason. So no milage goal, just want to get some kind of groove back.
8 -
Excellent start to the month @tarun_yadavA !
I hope you are able to walk into work and back out again @SummerSkier ! I don't really stream…just a bit, so no recommendations from me for series to binge on.
Welcome @TheBugaloos and @craig10rookie .
Nice run today @AlphaHowls . AND, I still have a couple of the old "tube" TVs that I watch - one is in the basement I watch while on the treadmill. I figure if they still work, no need to throw them away.
@chris_in_cal Welcome back to Garmin. I'm not real big on the smart watches either…well, I've never really had anything "smarter" than a Garmin, but I don't think I need it. It tickles me that the kids at daycare are constantly poking at my watch, trying to get it to do things. That's great until they discover the buttons..then they love pushing my buttons..literally and figuratively. 🤣
@yirara I hope your back/shoulder feels better tomorrow.
Great way to spend your time while your daughter swims @Laurz9191 . Having to be somewhere at a certain time is a great motivator to run faster.
@Scott6255 Sorry your knee is still giving you trouble. I hope you can get back in a groove and it quits hurting!

1 June Walked 1.10 miles - Ran 0.00 miles
1.10/70 mile goal
I did my Sunday Rest day run after church and before lunch today.
I wish I could put the following in a spoiler, but since I can't… This thing happened yesterday/today. My mom is going to be 90 yo the middle of August. She sends cards to everyone for every occasion, so I am on a quest to have her receive 90 cards for her birthday. She also watches Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy every night she is home and has since they started, I think. Anyway, I had the bright idea to see if I could get Vanna White (from Wheel of Fortune) to send her a card. This is what she received in the mail yesterday.
Got the surprise on her face when she realized what it was.
BTW, if any of you would like to contribute to the cause and send her a card, let me know and I'll send you her address.
7 -
OMG @quilteryoyo that is just so fun!!! No spoiler for that needed. Your mom looks like she is a little confused in the first shot but clearly enjoying the surprise in the second!
@Scott6255 that knee has been keeping you sidelined for months now!!! 🥹 Glad you are able to treadmill now and then tho. 🥹
5 -
@SummerSkier Her first response was, "She didn't really do that, did she?" I guess she didn't realize how she would know it was her birthday. I was actually surprised that she did - figured it was a long shot when I asked.
2 -
@SummerSkier I hope you heal well and quickly.
@daria0919 My best wishes to your husband. And you.
@quilteryoyo That is so very cool.
I went 2.15 miles today. I have been doing the run/walk and that is working well for me.
6 -
That’s precious @quilteryoyo - happy to send her a card from NZ!
Sorry about the knee @Scott6255 but glad you’re persevering regardless (it’s the only sensible option really).
@WarmJellyfish your race looked brutal. I’m so glad you managed to finish but don’t like the sound of the shape you were in. Scary. I hope you’re recovering well.
Ha @Laurz9191, I’m very familiar with the running maths while waiting for kids activities. I got it wrong more than once and had to end with a very fast last kilometre or two! It’s one way to get in some tempo 😂
I’m very impressed with how you’re tracking @chris_in_cal, especially given your couple of health setbacks. Keep up the good work!
Welcome @craig10rookie and @TheBugaloos. Glad to have new faces on board.
I hope the swelling is going down @SummerSkier and your back on your feet real soon.
Pilates for me this morning, followed by a 20 minute shakeout. Legs are remarkably good following yesterday’s long run.

It's much better today, was a bit worried about rhabdo yesterday but whew didn't happen. That did happen on another similar brutally hot race once and I didn't know what it was then. Have to love the weather here, yesterday was dying from the heat and today I'm freezing, its only 11c…🙄😶 the puffy came out. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger 😁 on to June!
@quilteryoyo that is so awesome it came through!

I ran 2.78M at 13'32 tonight out at the lake.

June Goal: 140 Miles
6/1: 11.02 miles
11.92/140 miles completed for June
I started June off with 11 miles. It was so hot and humid. It was a good run, but I was dripping wet by the time I got home. It definitely felt like summer out there.
That is so awesome @quilteryoyo . I would be happy to send your mom a card.

This really warmed by heart. Copied this post and pinning it on my bulletin board. You're a lovely person, @quilteryoyo, and God bless your Mom! 🤗

Thanks for the welcome, @quilteryoyo and @ContraryMaryMary!

Good Morning. So now over 48 hrs post injury I think I know the extent of things which is good. 😏 Always a bit stressful when you are not sure how much damage you have done. The bruising is still there but fading enough that you would have to look hard to see. Still swelling and there is some pooling of the bruise a little bit along the lower edge of outside foot under my ankle. Ice is starting to feel good. LOL. 😳
I did manage to walk a mile yesterday but it was at "injury pace" and now my legs and calves are sore because I know I was not walking normally. Oh well. 🤨 10K steps was the goal and I achieved it. 💪✅😎
Back to work today and afraid I am going to have to beg off tennis this week. sadly as it was coming along so nicely last Thursday. I am still thinking at least 4 weeks off running so I will be cheering all of you from the sidelines as I hobble along. But there is so much more here than running that I cannot stay away. Thank you all for your notes and hugs. It means a lot.

Hubby is in surgery right now. Thank you @emptydog @Scott6255 @quilteryoyo @tarun_yadavA and @John772016 for the well wishes for my husband. Hopefully it’ll be done within the next hour and I’ll be able to see him in recovery soon.
@Scott6255 i hope all goes well for your brother in August when he has his surgery. My husband is having his done as an anterior hip replacement which we’ve been told by many is the less invasive approach with quicker recovery time.
@quilteryoyo I’m happy to send your mom a card! Message me her address. What day in August is her birthday?
@chris_in_cal congratulations on your amazing weight loss last month!! I bet your running pace has been improving as the pounds melt off. Way to keep at it!
7 -
Nice run @emptydog . I love using the run/walk method.
That would be wonderful @ContraryMaryMary, @daria0919 and @kgirlhart. If we aren't friends here, which you have to be to send a message, I'll send you a request and then her address. I really appreciate it.
Nice recovery from your long run @ContraryMaryMary .
Glad you are feeling better/recovering well @WarmJellyfish .
Very nice @chris_in_cal .
Very nice hot run yesterday @kgirlhart ! I hope you enjoy your first day at your new job!
Nice short run this morning @tarun_yadavA . Thank you.
Thanks @TheBugaloos .
@SummerSkier Keep up that injury pace for a while. You are doing great. It's hard to walk normal when something hurts.
Hoping and praying all is going well with your hubby @daria0919 AND that he recovers quickly. How long will he be in the hospital?

📍June Running Challenge — Goal: 40 Miles | Starting Over (Again 🙃)
Hey everyone!
Poking my head back in here after what feels like an eternity (read: a humbling, inconsistent, and slightly soul-sucking 18 months of adulting derailment). Life happened. A lot. But here I am — shoes laced, Apple Watch charged, and clinging to the stubborn belief that this comeback will stick.
🎯 June Goal: 40 miles
I’m calling it my slightly wobbly but wildly optimistic comeback tour.A bit about me:
🏃♀️ Haven’t run a half marathon yet, but it’s still the goal. This is me starting over (again), with more grit this time. I’ve started training plans more times than I can count, but never quite made it to the start line (yet).🐎 I ride/train two horses 5 days a week (stepping back into competition) so I’m not totally sedentary… just selectively athletic.
💥 I need accountability. Like, “someone notice if I ghost this thread” level accountability.
💬 I’ll check in regularly — the highs, the lows, the ‘why is my watch judging me?’ moments.June Goal: 40 Miles
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Good luck with your hubby @daria0919 AND that he recovers quickly, and that he is a good patient.
@SummerSkier hope you heal quickly
@kgirlhart ! Congrats on your new job!
@emptydog . I love the run/walk method it is my go to and my fall back (when I was actually racking up some serious mileage).
@chris_in_cal great start! Keep going :)
Happy Monday Everyone

Welcome back!

Hello to all the new and new to me folks *waves * 👋
Have to love Garmin Connect and all its data points. Yes I'm a nerd. I seriously contemplated giving up trail races during the event but I think that was the heat exhaustion talking. I was pretty close to just sitting down and stopping there, with 5k left to go. The aid station showed in the nick of time. Never have I've been so happy to see an aid station 4.5k from the finish! Food, water, ice, awesome rah rah people!
So for Saturday's race, I started at 100% stamina potential and ended at 7% 😥 Lol. I think I gave it my all. 😂 It sure felt like it. I was in HR zone 4.5 for about 85% of the race. No wonder I was gassed.
Apparently I used up 4.6L in sweat but I only drank only 2L during the somewhat hot race. I realize now I stopped sweating at some point. Lessons to learn here 😶🙁. My run vest had a lot of salt stains…..ick, note, get white vests…
Looking back at previous attempts, I had a lot more base mileage going into those. Note to self, avoid breaking ribs and having a month long bronchitis 😷 before a race 😁
Now I got a lot of work ahead of me for upcoming races. Onwards….😎

02.05 3km 23min 7:33/km - too fast
3.0/81km - 2.4km behind
Back still hurts, and this made me restless. Started running too fast and hence this was a perseverance run: just get to at least 3km :D

@showjumper welcome to the group! I'll bet you and @SummerSkier could have a lot in common to talk about horses 🐎.
@martaindale wow, South Africa? I missed that you were going over there. Have an excellent adventure!
@god must be part of this group because he must have read my post and gave me my motivation. My daughter in Houston called last night and said a bunch of her friends are training for a series of 5Ks this summer and wanted some advice. Well we are going on an Alaskan cruise July 1-8, so I told her I will try and get ready and we can finish training her on the ship 😄
