June focus: Just one thing from the OMG room. Really.
2025: Chose NOW: to move more than yesterday (5 sit to stands every potty break no excuses), fuel better than yesterday (hold that after dinner sweet down to two pieces of dark chocolate max), open heart and mind before mouth

    Welcome @LSamara from Maine

Sorry about the Ankylosing Spondylitis. And unfortunately most of the "friends" who make friend requests here are trolls or bots. Great karate picture!!

    Welcome @mspianomistress8598

    Welcome @mandyrosesews

Welcome @glypnirsgirl from Texas. Wonderful to be retiring and good for you for the swimming. I'm taking swimming lessons.

    Welcome @BubBerry

Welcome @Proudlyblonde - "My favorite quote is “If you’re tired of starting over, stop quitting”" I like it!

We're glad you all are here!

    I am Machka!

    I am:

    • 58 year old
    • a Canadian-Australian
    • living in Tasmania, Australia
    • a Data Analyst working fulltime for the government, in health
    • a carer for my husband
    • mum of a black cat
    • a beekeeper
    • stepmother of 2 adult step-children
    • stepgrandmother of 4 step-grand-children (only in contact with 2)
    • a long-term and long-distance cyclist … who is building back up to the long distances
    • one who enjoys being active and trying different things like fencing last year, swimming this year, gardening a few years ago, running a half marathon a few more years ago. And more!
    • a person who likes to learn new things - to travel, to take courses, to try and experience, to read.

    May Accomplishments

    image.png
    • Lost 9.6 kg (21.2 lbs) since the beginning of January - May has been good for weight loss! 2.6 kg = 5.7 lbs
    • Cycled 219 km in May in 10 bicycle rides, the longest of which was only 39.3 km.
    • Climbed 475 flights of 20 stairs up plus landings at work.
    • Walked 53 km.
    • Continued Learn to Swim classes!!
    • Worked full time with no holidays in May.
    • Still madly busy at work doing 1.5 jobs. Learning. Re-learning. Work has been rather overwhelming since the beginning of the year.
    • Attended husband's follow-up appointments for his ruptured Achilles tendon.
    • Vaccinations & Checkups.
    • Working with team on cycling club's website.
    • Bee Group and all-day training course yesterday.
    • Organised a few things in house.
    • Got a little bit of gardening done
    • Did several Sudokus.
    • Coloured 2 pages.
    • Read 5 books.
    • Continued reading Bible every night.

It has been a tiring month. I've been thinking I could do with 6 months off work so I could sleep, exercise, and putter around getting caught up on stuff.

    May Books

Of those 5, I gave The Note by Alafair Burke 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    4 Stars went to:

    • Dead Simple by Peter James, the first novel in "a gripping mystery series" set in a place called Brighton England and venturing into Hove England.
    • One of Us Knows by Alyssa Cole. There's a lot going on in that book!

Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf was the first Virginia Woolf I have ever read … and quite possibly the last. Stream of consciousness is not my style.

    JUNE

    image.png

June 1 - All day training course regarding the Varroa Mite which can invade bees & beehives. I'm glad we went, but I wasn't excited about getting up early on a Sunday and spending the whole day learning about this mite. The course could have ended at least an hour earlier … probably 2 hours. There was so much repetition.

June 2 - Work from home. But also both husband and I had bloodwork and had to sort something out with Services Tasmania.

I worked 5 days last week, had Saturday off, and then felt like I went back to work on Sunday with that Varroa Mite workshop. My weekend was definitely not long enough.

I have, however, managed a couple of walks in the last 2 days.

Managed to get my son's cake made. Edie helped. It's all boxed up and ready to go.

My son is arriving in twenty minutes to pick the girls up. This morning they made cards for his birthday. Lunch was a huge success, with new gluten free pasta for Bea, which she loved with her beloved pesto.. We had smashed avocado, with gf bread, mixed salad, and jumbo frankfurters. Stewed apples and berries for dessert, with gorgeous ice cream. They still managed to tuck into mini pretzels, and chocolate digestive biscuits! John was going to take them out for cricket in the park, but my son is coming a bit earlier than planned.

I'm doing a v easy dinner, and my first priority is a nap, when they've gone.

So sorry to hear about your granddaughter, Kylia. I hope she is OK. 💕

Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

    Hey, kids…

Dropping in to see if there's any news from Kylia regarding the granddaughter, and since there's a smiley icon, hope all's as good as can be.

Machka - Love those word clouds, they make me happy.

Heather - I want to come back as your granddaughter - so many amazing grandmothers on this thread.

Carol - So pleased for yours for her achievements. She's what I wanted to be in high school!

As usual, going three different directions this morning. I've got yarn winding on the electric winder. Broke down and got one, means I'm able to a) get a good handle on how much yarn I have and b) wind it into skeins that are all of a similar size and stack and store easily, and c) make them all center-pull, easy to work with. Only about 40 more skeins are left to get wound up. Videoing them wound on the winding machine, basically ASMR videos for those who know what that means. Will film another five of those, and be done with it.

Soundscape is the way I like it as well - dishwasher going, yarn winder winding, just in general content with my day. Still thinking about driving to see my sister, not sure I'm ready for a four- or five-hour drive, and there's no other way to get there across Oklahoma except to drive. I just love my house and my environs and don't want to leave! Eventually the pull will get too strong, most likely. Maybe when the rain sets in again.

Time to go get the winding untangled.

    Love y'all,
    Lisa in AR

Lorna, so sorry you got trolled! Most of us here don’t do the friend thing and we’ve all had “men” who try to friend us. We get most of our MFP social interaction thru this thread. One thing that works for me for the night time bingeing is flossing and brushing my teeth. Once they are clean for the night, I’m much less likely to snack. The trick, of course, is cleaning the teeth….

For the gal in Texas who loves Vancouver Island, I do too! My only experience with Texas involved a tropical storm whose name I can’t recall and 40.5 hours at the airport in Houston. Not the best ending for our cruise. C’est la vie.
