Lisa, thank you for the info on Kim. So glad she sought medical attention quickly and that the tumour is benign! Please let her know sheโs in my thoughts! And add me to the list of folks who are happy for the presence of her roommate, that young man has been a great addition to her life.
Pip so sorry to hear about Yogi. Really sucks losing our furbabies. Glad that you had your vacay and that Kirby is having his tho!
Sue sorry about losing your kitty. See above comment to Pip.
Kylia, hope all is well with your granddaughter. Congrats on staying nicotine free! I quit smoking 36 years ago, really donโt miss it now, but some days were hard!
Medical stuff that I hope to put in a spoiler, not too many gross details, but feel free to skip!
I have had issues with ingrown toenails, especially the big toes. I had the sides trimmed and that part of the root killed in Aug 2020. They started to grow in at odd, but not horribly bad, angles, but I dealt with it just fine. It was such a relief not having them digging into my toes anymore! Fast forward a few years and they started growing in really thick which caused a new type of pain. I tried filing the tops to thin them a bit, it wasnโt easy to do and getting them even was a definite challenge! Last November I finally decided that I was going to try to find someone to remove the whole nail. I started with my GP who put in a referral. When I hadnโt heard from anyone by March, I called the GP again and was able to get an appt with him in April. Got a phone call from the referral place the next day, so apparently I got lost in the shuffle. Anyway, had the nail on my left foot done May 22 and get the right one done June 12. Iโm quite pleased with it so far, seems to be healing well although there is discomfort. Wearing closed toed shoes is out of the question and will be for at least another month, sure glad itโs summer! One of the best parts is itโs all covered by our provincial medical plan. Our system is far from perfect, but it has its perks!
Well, Iโll be darned! The spoiler worked very well once I figured it out! Yay me, lol.
So my weight had been going up and up, but then seemed to plateau a bit and now seems to be creeping down, ever so slowly. Sure wish it would go down as fast as it went up! Ah well, slow and steady I guess. I have been working on crocheted blankets for the grandkids for Christmas. That does seem to help keep me out of the kitchen. I have another, rather complicated, project for when Iโm done this, hopefully that will also keep the grazing at bay!
Sorry for the novel! Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating (special shout out to Tracey on your grad!) and welcome to the new gals! Oh and Rita, keep the jokes coming, love them!Evelyn, Vancouver Island

Lisa OMG. Prayers said for GodMomKim and good wishes whooshed her way.
Still stiff and sore from my little tumble so wimped out on Classic Fit class and line dancing. Soaked in the hot tub instead.
Barbie just finished Death on Tap, and enjoyed it. Will look for more of Ellie Alexanderโs books. Have you read her pastry series?
Beth hope the June truck deals are even better.
Lisa I had to google ASMR. (
) Would way rather watch your yard wind, listen to your dishwasher, listen to your soundscape than those intrusive and fake-caring YouTubesโฆ just sayinโLanette what you said about serving size and numbers. Truth. Glad the monster walks helped your back (and the NSAIDs ;} )
Alllie what is the medical ID for? Kidney transplant? CGM? Sorry to hear about the change from Trulicity and the need to go back to stabbing yourself.
Welcome @mshell0327 and hugs for that horrible injury. What the heck happened?
Evelyn that toenail issue sounds painful, glad the fix was covered.
Rita saw this in the AARP bulletin and thought of you.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

MFP Weekly Check-In for June 2, 2025
Debbie in Napa Valley CA - 152.4 again today. Not going down like I would like but glad it isn't going up. Not as much regular exercise this week(only had Ezie one day, and no Zumba on Monday because of the holiday) but I did work in mom's garden two days in a row. Got over 18,000 steps Tuesday and over 16,000 steps on Wed between gardening and Zumba).
Rita in Roswell NM - After eating Cajun food and driving for 16 hrs., up 2.6 pounds. Should go down now that Iโm back to routine should even out.ย
Sue in WA - Weight is the same at 233. Did pretty well on exercise, did horrible on eating. The sugar demon got me good and proper. Disagreement with DD on water heater has me upset and eating to soothe myself. Crazy me, I know that doesn't really work, only makes me feel worse. Well this is a new day and I need to let my resentment be and get on with life. There is lots of stuff outside that could use my attention.
Lanette in SW WA โ Weight staying within desired range. Average daily steps 8504 โ down a bit from prior week. Walking with weights minimum 30 minutes per day, divided throughout the day after meals, though Iโve started to substitute early morning โsunriseโ walks on the little private road (no weights of course.)

Lorna, I am so sorry about you getting hit on here. It happens all the time and I've reported SO many of these creeps! I wish they'd do something, but it doesn't seem to be high on their priority list. I just delete anyone/everyone with a male profile pic. Believe me, they're all the same creep.
Kylia, I sorry you won't make it home for your "dad's" funeral. That must be heartbreaking. Sending big (((hugs))) I'm sure granddaughter is okay or will be. Feeling lost when your loved ones are injured is normal. Let us know how she's doing.
I believe that it's wrought iron, Barbie. It's just so lovely and one of the things that I love about it is that I almost can't see it against the natural background.
Totally heavenly, Lisa.
So sad about Kim... sending prayers for successful treatment. Glad you found it early!
Love and Blessings

@auntiebk My daughter and I hiked Arther's Seat in Edinburgh and when we were ready to head back down, I went looking for a safe passage. Silly me decided to stand on the edge of a ravine, the edge broke away and I fell about 7 feet unto my left leg. Originally I thought I had just dislocated it and I called over to my daughter to call #999 (their 911). Come to find out, I did a little bit more than that.
The people there were amazing! Luckily 2 doctors (not together) were hiking at the same time and came to help. Other hikers gave me water and their version of Tylenol (Paracetamol). And NO ONE stopped to take photos or videos! Needless to say, I can scratch mountain rescue off my bucket list! Here's my view from where I fell! Pretty relaxing view while I waited for the rescue team - took them about 90 minutes to get to me ๐
And some of my rescue team!!

Lisa - Thanks for Kim update. I find it amazing they can remove a brain tumor today and and send you home tomorrow. Good to hear house mate is going to help her. Regarding weather and headaches-I have noticed my arthritis will act up before the weather says it will (like the day before).
Rita - glad you had good trip-you deserved it.
Pip -I hope Yogi makes it for Kirby to come home so you don't have to handle alone.
Kylia- hope GD ok from wreck. Was she at fault?
Lanette - congrats on back relief-mine is slowly improving. I love seeing mama deer with the babies.
Barbie - interesting snack choices. I can eat large quantities of almost any nuts.
Evelyn - toe nails are interesting. Doctor released me today from big toe recovery. Plate in growing in but will takes months to know for sure about nail. I'm being careful about shoes.
mshell - quite the vacation pics! Glad it wasn't worse.
Welcome to everyone new.
Long Monday. Spent Saturday watching GD while parents went over and did some cleaning. They are moving Tuesday. I'm starting to sort things in my office and at home. Will go better once back kink gets worked out all of the way. Seeing progress every day.
Off to get trash out and clothes ironed.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Got my new monkey feet! 1/2 off, love โem!
9 -
Lisa - thanks for letting us know about Kim. Wishing her a complete and fast recovery.
Kylia - Hope DGD is doing OK.
To whoever mentioned it, I went out late last night and it was clear. Saw lots of stars but no northern lights. Wished I had.
Got another quote for water heater, $2900 installed or $4000+ for tankless water heater. We could do electric for $1700 but would have to pay electrician to pull wires from opposite end of house. Still haven't decided but certainly not going with the first quote.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Pip - just reread my earlier post today. Called Yogi "Toby". GACK! Sorry. Evidently I was running low on caffeine. Hope he's doing better today. I too remember when he was a little fella.
Carla - love your deck! What a nice place to hang plants. Is this on the South or West side of your house? I thought of YOU the other day when I dug out Don Fiore's Tai Chi and Louhan Tapping videos - got the quick YouTube versions. I really need to do that every day and just schedule it, sure helps with balance. And mostly points out which side really needs work.
Tracey - I was just outside rummaging through my board collection to find some short 1 x 2's to make a platform to set a bird watering dish on. I thought of YOU and the scrap lumber pieces you use when you make your craft items. ๐ I need to stop by the wood products place and go through their scrap wood totes again and add to my stash. Between what I've picked up there and DH's saved long pieces of lumber, I'm a lucky girl. ๐
Mshell - wow, you sure know how to have a memorable vacation. NICE rescue team, lol. With the Scottish accents and everything. ๐ Beautiful scenery for sure!
Evie - sorry about that toe. Glad you had it taken care of.
Ginny - and glad your toenail must be healing. Can you believe you're in the final work days with retirement finally here?
Pip - and look at YOUR toes tucked into your new Monkey feet. Sweet deal!
Michele - wow, that's some crew. They all look so pretty and what a nice setting for them. Thanks for posting the pictures.
I mowed most of the back yard this afternoon and noticed that treacherous Monkey Puzzle is getting ready to drop a lower branch or two. I'll wear DH's heavy welding gloves and pick them up and toss them under the powerline where I don't mow. Let the power company guys worry about them when they come to replace a pole, lol.
Did a little more cleanup and rearranging in my covered sitting area next to the shop. That's where the bird watering dish went. I noticed a swallow in the sparrow birdhouse above it, so she won't have far to fly if she needs a splish-splash.
Looks like we might see temps in the 90's F next weekend. I have shade cloth ready to drape over my tomatoes if it gets too scorchy. They took the transplanting well, thank goodness.

Rita โ so sorry you arenโt feeling well. Hope it passes soon
Lisa โ thank you so so much for telling us about Kim. My heart goes out to her. Glad she went at the first sign of a problem and that itโs benign. I, too, am thankful for her roommate
mshell โ welcome. Dh had a tibial plateau fracture about 15 years ago so I can just imagine what youโre up against. It took a while, but it did get better. Not perfect, but better
People are always asking to see pics of my ceramics. Well, here they are. Of course, this doesnโt include the ones that are in the front of the house.
Going to work on the tissue box for my gf.
Since I wonโt be at work Fri and Sat I asked the store mgr if sheโd like me to come in Thurs (my usual day off) and she said โyesโ so Iโll go in, give them extra tomatoes and onions like I do for the weekend.

Picked up my tennis racquet for the first time in years. Every week, as I drive my fur baby to doggie daycare to play, I pass 2 tennis courts that have a concrete back wall for solo practice. So today, I finally sucked it up and tossed my racquet and a can of tennis balls in the car and stopped to get some much needed activity doing something Iโve loved since I picked up the sport at 3 years old. It was only 20 mins (because thatโs all the time I had) and my 54 year old knees were doing their best to make me stop, but I did it! One baby step at a time!

Hoping Kim is on her way to recovery. We are all thinking about you! ๐ ๐ What a shock to suddenly find that out.
Oh wow, mshell! ๐ฏ It's like TV rescue come to life! I often watch mountain or sea rescue shows, and there you are! Yes, I think it would set the exercise regime back a bit.......
Michele - That is some mega collection! Great that you made them personally, and each one means something to you.
Lanette - I'm in awe of everything you do as a lone pioneer woman. Kudos. ๐คฉ
John and I had a mega, mega, shouting match last night. I have yet to find out how he is this morning. We haven't done that for years, and I hadn't been drinking. I will apologise for my part in it and my outburst, when I take him a cup of tea.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Hello Ladies,
Thank you, Barbie, for bringing us into June. My, does time fly?
I made it through a grueling stretch of work days. It took them my last night to give me a better assignment. Thank goodnessโone case where a 7-year-old girl, a complex care patient, presented with sniffles and constipation. Well, on the x-ray, it showed that her bowel was inflamed and was compressing her lungs. So they did an exploratory lap and found a dead bowel. Now, she has an ileostomy. Meaning she has to wear a colostomy bag. Then Kelly had her, and her stoma looked gray, and nursing and parents went back and forth with surgery about it. Then it was okay.
They requested me to care for their daughter. She had a fever when I arrived, and it was 101.4. I gave Motrin, then Tylenol, and it went down afterward. Then she was pooping a lot, and I was worried that she was dumping. I also have a baby on the vent who likes to alligator roll. Unfortunately, he has a trach and is on the vent. The last one was also trached, on oxygen, and she was hypothermic. I had to get her a warmer, and then I got her so hot that her cheeks turned red. The Attending asked why I didn't get a warming blanket instead of a Bair Hugger. I told them that she was 92 degrees, and they couldn't find me a warmer, so I used what I had. Her temp was 98 degrees when we turned it off. When I returned, she had been discharged. When I got back, my patient had just returned from emergency surgery, the one with the ileostomy ( because she perforated or her bowels ruptured). Then, I got a new complex care patient with 16 medications. I told the charge nurse that my assignment was too much for me to handle. She told me that she would have the night charge do medications for the other patient. I barely assessed my other patients when I was called to the bedside of my 7-year-old. Her temp was 103.7. I ran to gather all of her medications together, just in case she was storming (She Has a lot of drugs to crush and one to verify on the computer with another nurse). I wish I had given her Motrin first, in retrospect. I could get them together quickly. However, as I was prepping, the doctors changed the doses in the computer after I had already prepped one. Then, the mom called me to the bedside for different reasons.
Mom was concerned that the Salem sump wasn't working. I usually don't stop my medication preparation because I like to ensure that no mistakes are made. It was all a mess. Then, Mom wanted to do a family-activated response. I called one, and the Peds ICU came in. I had the doctor come in and talk to her, but that was not good enough. So, the team decided to leave her. Mom's complaint was the length of time it took her to get her medication. I explained that she called me away from med prep to address her concerns, and the charge nurse agreed.
The supervisor was trying to determine how to repair the machines. So, after everyone got their medications and was settled, I assessed her, and she looked bad to me. Her temperature remained high even though she had taken both Motrin and Tylenol. Her body was hot, but her feet were cold, and the capillary refill was sluggish. I was concerned that she was going into septic shock. So we called the PICU team in and relayed my assessment and the fact that she stopped breathing a couple of times. So they came and got her. She is still there today. The resident called me, yelling about what she would tell the Attending. I told her to tell them she was gravely ill. I am glad that I called back the PICU team to take her. Sorry this is so long, but it was a long week. They gave me a day off on Saturday(I needed it). Thanks for letting me Vent. :)Pip, I would love to take my dog to play in an alligator-free body of water. Yogi loved it, as evidenced by the look on his face. It's so unfair that the time we spend with our fur babies is finite.
Carol, I need my antidepressant to keep me going. Plus, I have a therapist. Think about reconsidering antidepressants.
Welcome to all of the New people!
I will address you all soon. Until then, stay safe and guard your mental health.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

Oh Mo! I have no idea how you do it! ๐โฃ๏ธ
Update: John and I are OK. It's a tiny bit wobbly, in that we are being extra nice to each other, but we'll get over ourselves. Last night he was so upset he ran out of the house and stayed out for a while. As I say, these outbursts have become fewer, but this one ignited quickly.
It was about what information he had given me about his sister coming over. Crossed wires completely. I said he said, he said I said, etc etc. Anyway, he still has to find out her plans. It will be nice to see her.
Bea pick up today. It could be raining. I will pick up my watch first. My son's birthday. I hope we'll get a small slice of my orange cake.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Morning, all,
I know everyone's waiting to hear, but it's 5 a.m. Kim's time, and don't want to disturb her. Did talk to her last night and she was doing fine - they moved the surgery to Thursday, and are waffling between which hospital to do it in, evidently Kaiser is a massive system with hospitals all over that region. Plus the medication they started her on isn't right for surgery, so they had to let that get out of her system. The usual hospital thing.
Her community has kicked in, she said she had visitors on top of visitors yesterday, and her nephew has stepped up and is taking care of necessary things like telling her mother in personโshe can't hear on the phone at all. More when I get more news. They may well send her home until the surgery, but you know how that goes - she's already on her third neurosurgeon, and they all want different things.
Things are fine with me. Getting used to the orthotics and they're actually helping my knees and ankles a lot.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR8 -
Wow this is an amazing group of women. I am so glad that I found this forum.
Mo - My heart goes out to you. What a stressful job โ- it makes mine look like a piece of cake.
I have all of my pre-trial stuff out of the way except for the pre-trial hearing which will occur tomorrow.
Today I am going to work on my container gardening. One of my son's friends is coming over to help with mulching landscape beds and clean out containers. It is hard to imagine that he is 40 now โ- he has been helping me since he was about 10 years old. His mother was my best friend and we lost her to colon cancer 10 years ago.
I hope to get the containers finished before my DIL and GD arrive on Saturday for a 3-4 week visit. Original plan was just for GD to come. My son decided he needs some time to himself so DIL is coming too. I love my DIL (and so does my DH) so we will be happy to have them both.

Day 6 of Learning to Swim.
Need to figure out a breathing rhythm. What works for cycling & climbing stairs, doesn't for swimming.

๐ Michele, what an impressive collection of ceramics. Thank you for taking the time to take the pictures and post them.
โค๏ธ Heather, those shouting matches are so stressful. Glad you and Johnny have reconnected.
โค๏ธ Mo, your challenges at work are so challenging. The world is a better place with you in there to care for your patients.
๐ Proudlyblonde, getting back to tennis sounds like a great way to improve your mental and physical health. Will it be a challenge to find someone to play with?
๐ Lanette, every time you write about your property is sounds bigger and more challenging. I admire all you do.
๐ Ginny, what I like about pecans is that I can eat them without digestive distress and I'm not inclined to eat too many. I need for snacks for nourishment not entertainment and the inclination to eat too many. How great that retirement is getting closer for you.
๐ mshell, your rescue looks like a scene from a movie, Sorry you'll be curtailed from exercise for awhile but glad you lived to tell the tale.
๐ Barbara, I've read nearly all of Ellie Alexander's books. The baking ones set in Ashland are my favourite. The ones in Northern Oregon are good, too.
๐ Pip, thanks for the shoe pictures. Finding good shoes is wonderful.
๐ Evelyn, glad your weight is starting to go down again. It never goes fast enough (unless you're dangerously ill).
๐ Elaine, what do you plant in your containers? Are they pots or raised beds or what?
๐ Machka, I've enjoyed hearing your adventures in learning to swim. I learned when I was about 10 and don't remember anything about it except that my mother insisted because she had never learned to swim.
๐ฑ There is no magic bullet for weight loss. Persistence and hard work are essential. It's so easy to give up and say that nothing works. The same could be said for mental health for most people. It takes therapy, Twelve Steps, a spiritual program or something similar plus practicing what you've learned constantly. Recognizing the problem is the entrance to the solution, not the solution itself.
๐ I am wimp about heat. 70 degrees in the afternoon makes working outside unpleasant for me, so today I'm going to try going out earlier. I've finished washing 13 of 22 panels on the fence. I love my fence. I'm the one who chose vinyl and haven't change my mind, and I remind myself that I didn't do anything to it last summer so it's so bad this year.
๐ Yesterday I went out at ten to work in the yard and the neighbour who has dog that Annie likes, came by so I invited them into the yard so the dogs could play. The other dog is a herding dog about the same age and size as Annie and they chase each other all over the yard til they are both tired. Annie is willing to share her watering can with him and they drink a lot of water while playing. Was sad to find out that they plan to move as soon as their house sells.
๐ We got up early this morning so I had time to write.

@Machka9 - I had a hard time learning to breathe while swimming โ- I never could manage breathing on my left so I was always breathing on my right. My doctor said that breathing the same direction all of the time was bad for my neck. I started using a snorkel. Using the snorkel, I could breathe more evenly with my head always in a neutral position which enabled me to swim much longer. I can swim a mile using a snorkel. It is hard for me to do 2 laps without one.
While in school, I ran track. I was never good at it. It was before Title IX so our track team was very small. I ran 1000 and 2000 meters (which were considered long distances for a girl) and did running broad jump and standing broad jump. I never placed in the top 3. I enjoyed running. My knees can't take it now. My best friend was also on the track team and I enjoyed training with her. She was much faster than I and ran shorter distances. So I ran for her and she swam for me. There was no swim team at our school so we just swam at the Y.
Title IX was passed in 1972 - the year that I graduated from high school. It has made such a HUGE difference in women's athletics. My friends with daughters encouraged them to run track, play soccer, play golf and most of their daughters received athletic scholarships.
I am in awe of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Athing Mu. The first woman track star that I was aware of was Florence Griffith Johnson. I was in my mid 30s before FloJo was making her mark in track. I love seeing the progress that women are making.
That same progress has happened in law. When I entered law school in 1977, my first year class was 500. 5 of us were women. The year following, there were 50 women in the entering class and the third year, the entering class was 1/3 women. In 1980, I started practicing law in Fort Worth: I made the 13th woman in Tarrant County practicing law. In 2013, I was arguing a case before the Second Court of Appeals here in Fort Worth. The panel of 3 judges were all women, the bailiff was a woman, the court reporter was a woman. The only man in the room was my opposing counsel. I thought, "my how times have changed."

Elaine - Glad you're here with us. If there is one thing this community of women brings me, it is perspective. I don't believe that comparative pain is useful, but nonetheless, our own problems can feel less important when set beside these lovely, stalwart friends. And they become that, as unexpected as it seemed when I first joined the thread more than a decade ago. First visit each morning and usually my last visit in the afternoon before I turn off my computer for the night. Spans the world, this group, and makes it feel smaller. Enjoy your time with your granddaughter and daughter-in-law. Pics (if it's OK with your DIL) are always welcome! On your next post - I ran the mile relay in high school, and had no issues when I went in the military with mile run during basic training. Nowโฆ yeah, that's not happening. And like Barbie, once it's over 80 degrees, I'm back inside. The heart meds make sure that happensโฆ Ah well.
Heather - Glad you and John are being nice to each other again. I find any of the rare blowups with Corey will leave me shaky for hours if not days after.
Beth - Speaking of those rare blowups, getting my husband to make a decision at something resembling a reasonable rate of speed for something big like a truck is probably the one that happens most. My sympathies for how long your DH is taking to decide. That will get on my last nerve. And has. More than once.
Mo - It's good to see you. Glad we're here to offload some of that heavy burden. Love seeing your posts pop up.
Michele - So many ceramics pieces! How many do you have now? And I see you learned how to work with the new picture embedding process here on MFP, too. Well done!
@mshell0327 - Glad your rescue was accomplished, sorry the recovery has been toughโฆ I was up in that area in my late 20s, camping with my now-ex-husband and friends, and my main memory is just fighting the frogs for the showers - the rain never stopped once. Looks like you had a lovely day for it! And a lovely rescue team, too. ๐๐ฒ
Talked to Corey on his good morning call, he's going about three hours north and a little west into Oklahoma to fix a piece of heavy equipment. I interpret, of course - he called it a "leaky kitty cat," so I'm assuming it's a Caterpillar loader with a hydraulic leak. The more he plays it down, the bigger it is, usually.
Went to sleep watching a "Philosophy for Sleep" video on YouTube, and the part that stuck before I drifted off was the one on the transcendence of transience. Knowing that everything is transient, and celebrating that temporary presence in our lives is one of the hardest things that humans do. I think it only comes with age in our culture, and even then, we don't always learn it. Death and loss are such a part of our lives, and the ones we struggle with the most, it seems.
Back to Earth with a bump - need to head into town here shortly and pick a few things up for Corey, and quit watching these men inch this massive shed up onto a trailer. Speaking of not moving at my speedโฆ ๐ฒ๐
Did talk to one of them who's helping out with the shed move yesterday. He owns a woodlot outside of town, and he's going to come clear a number of trees out for us, and will do it for the price of just keeping the wood. Harvesting these old, dead massive trees that are genuinely dangerous will be good for his business, and keep us from having to work around them to do the clearing of this chunk of land. Excellent barter, as far as we're concerned.
Got a quick text from Kim - supposedly, they're sending her home after morning rounds, and right now the surgery is at 6 a.m. California time on Thursday morning. I'm sure she'll check in here if she can. First thing surgeries (to me) are always preferable. Keep a good thought.
Later, y'all,
Love,

OK - tailed off into an Internet rabbit hole or two, but forgot to say in my last post, I picked up the Inspector Lynley Mysteries on Britbox last night, watched the first two. Quite absorbing, lots of red herrings. Six seasons available, it's more than 20 years old, but didn't feel that way.
