Rori - It's in your email, dear heart. Always good to see you pop in. Love to see your travel plans, and Heather's, and anyone else's—but still haven't quite got the nerve up to even drive to my sister's, which is only four hours away! I feel that restlessness building, but don't know when I'll break through the wall I built around me these last few years. I hope I can. Traveling with Corey was one thing, traveling alone will be nerve-wracking, at least at the beginning.
Pip - I like the paint on the metal basket! Very pretty.
I went ahead and paid John yesterday, the tradesman who did the work on demolishing the little house. There's a bit more work to do, but he assures me he'll do it, and he's genuinely done everything he said he would do - the rest is just clearing the trash on the other side of the stream. Can't work with a tractor on this mud, it makes an even bigger mess.
Sorry - I know this went on a bit, but can't put pics in a spoiler.
The pictures above are before the work began, and after the vast majority of it was cleared. The shed in the right-hand picture, which is barely visible past the house in the first image, looks quite small, but the image below is of it loaded onto a trailer to move it out intact, taken from the other side of the yard. It was quite large. I'll get down and take more pictures once we get the dumpster moved out. Almost there!
When it's not raining, I'll go over the dirt with a rake and a shovel to try to remove as much surface detritus as we can. There's just so much broken glass - not from the house demolition, they tried to save them all intact, but from the past residents - and even a steak knife yesterday emerging from the mud, three-inch blade sticking out of the ground!
Once it's as clean as possible, we'll have a couple dumptruck loads of topsoil brought in and seed it all out with grass. Just glad to see the structures gone. We need to take a breath and let nature do some of the cleaning before we spend more on topsoil, too. We've spent thousands getting it demolished and cleaned up. Worth every penny, but drained the budget, to say the least. But, as we keep telling ourselves, it's not like we're going to do this every year!
Oh! And the old gentleman who sold it to us stopped by with a framed aerial photo that had been taken, I think, in the 1970s or '80s of the house we live in and the little house that we just had demolished. The photo was taken and then this oil painting was made from the photo, apparently. Must have been an expensive proposition at the time.
The small shed between the two houses was long gone, just the concrete pad it sat on is still there. The shed they hauled out on a trailer was built long after this photo was taken.
Anyway…
I've rattled on long enough. Just talked to Corey for his "good morning" call, and he's headed up north again, this time to fix a serpentine belt on a diesel truck. Just two hours up instead of three. He wants roast beef for dinner, so I pulled a small one out of the freezer, got that thawing, and I'll sling it in the Instant Pot later.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR9 -
🌻 This is the overhead light in the kitchen. Even if I wanted to get on the step stool I had no idea how to open it, or how to change the light or what to buy. I was very grateful to my my handy neighbour who fixed it. If you don't know how to something, it's fabulous to find someone who does even if it turns out to be an easy fix for them.
😀 My kitchen felt so bright this morning with the combination of new glasses and a new light.
👀 When I got home with my new glasses, I dug out the stash of old glasses and chose two pairs that I could wear in an emergency and set the other four aside to donate the next time I go where there is a glasses donation box.
😀 Lanette, I've taken the AARP Safe Driving class twice. The first one was fun and useful because the teacher was great. The second one seemed endless and boring because the teacher wasn't great. At the time, I did the arithmetic and figured out that the savings on my insurance wasn't much more than the cost of the class. Maybe they have them online now.
😀 Elaine, I understand how you feel about your upcoming retirement. I taught primary grades in public school for over 30 years and loved what I did, but when I retired I was ready. In the fall after I retired I volunteered on the first day of school to help a friend and found out two things—-I was gifted at working with children and I never wanted to do it again. I have enjoyed retirement. It sounds like you have done some serious and excellent thinking about your decision to move.
😀 Terri, I enjoyed reading your stats and your thoughts on the process of losing weight and staying healthy. You should put your reminders about losing weight out where everyone can see them, not hidden in a spoiler. They are great for all of us.
😀 Pip, thanks for sharing the photos of your latest creative project.
😀 Rori, I love your adventurous spirit. My travel is limited now to YouTube videos.
😀 Rita, I have no idea how to keep Lucy from biting you. Does she have plenty of toys to chew on? When Annie was younger she grabbed both Jake and me with her mouth. His skin was thin so she drew blood. On me she left bruises. She doesn't do that anymore.
🌼 Fence washing progress: 15 out of 22. The peonies are blooming, I had to rig a support around one of them—not a great job but it works, I learned enough to do a better job next year. Daisies have bud and are growing tall. I planted seeds in 2012 in peat pots and transplanted them. They come back year after year even with Annie jumping over and on them.
😀 As Annie grows more mature, I have more time in the morning because she doesn't need me to sit on the couch with her for more than a few minutes. She can choose a toy on her own and will lie down with Bessie.
🌞 Extra warm temps are predicted for today so I'll do my yard stuff early and stay indoors in the afternoon.

😀 Lisa, Thanks for the before and sort of after photos of your project. That is such a smart thing to do. About travel. For most of my life I was a confident curious traveler and loved every minute of it. Together Jake and I traveled a lot in North America. Health and the pandemic slowed us down and now I have no inclination to go anywhere either alone or with someone else. My parents were world travelers and one day my dad decided that he'd had enough and was content to stay home. I didn't understand it at the time and now I know exactly how he felt. There are a lot of people I'd enjoy seeing and sights I'd like to visit but only if they are within a few miles.

Good morning!
Thinking about Kim this morning …
Lisa … what a project the house demolition has been!
Travel … I have done very little traveling. I'm ok with that, but my husband would like to travel before his health prevents him from doing so comfortably. Life has always gotten in the way. I love seeing all of your travel photos.
The mattress … still awful. My husband is out of town and I rolled all over the mattress last night because I could and I'm exhausted this morning. I'll be sleeping in the spare bedroom shortly if for no other reason than to prove that it's the new bed and not me. Twenty-two more days until it can be exchanged.
Swimming … I was a competitive swimmer in high school … but use the word "competitive" loosely. I have always loved the water and was a good swimmer. Our high school swim team allowed pretty much anyone to be on the team regardless of speed or ability and so I joined and religiously attended practices. I did compete in the long distance races as I had great endurance then, but I was never exceedingly fast. At that time we were not trained to breathe from both sides? Might be why I wasn't fast. My cousin's son competed in the Olympic trials but missed the team last year by a fraction of a second. Now I have a pool (my dream growing up) and while I'm constantly cleaning it, I rarely get in it …
Michele … you have quite the collection of figurines around your pool!
My son … whom some of you might remember deals with chronic migraines and has been overweight … has decided to address his fitness and health. I am impressed with his determination this time. He's under the guidance of someone he knows at work whose passion is personal training (and has certifications to do so). He's been getting up at the crack of dawn to exercise before work and he's changed his eating habits significantly. It's been good motivation for me. I won't sabotage his efforts and I can benefit from the healthy food choices as well (I am not exercising at the crack of dawn). His efforts are already showing visible results.
Chicken Breasts … what the heck is going on with the chicken breasts? They're huge and tough! None of the ones I've been able to buy can just go on the grill. They need to be marinated to tenderize them. Long gone are the days when 4 chicken breasts in a recipe meant a total of one pound of meat. Goodness … the thing I cooked last night was well over a pound!
Just putzing around today. Will try to get some weeding done before it rains and get caught up on some cleaning I've been putting off.

The mattress. Someone asked what brand the mattress is that we just bought. It's a Sealy Posturepedic Elite Hybrid - Albany II Medium. So it's coils along with cooling memory foam and whatever else they have layered into it. It's a higher end Sealy. But it doesn't have "tufting." The surface is smooth and while it seemed like that was good for my husband, I don't think it's offering enough cushioning for either of us. I could feel what I think was a coil last night on my hip.

Well ladies, back home now! It was an amazing trip to see sister, celebrate her birthday, and the trip back up to Whidbey island with her. I logged my food for the most part, only a couple days where it was just to chaotic and busy to do so. I have gone from 248.6 on May 15th to 238.0 yesterday. So the zepbound is definitely helping. I am also putting in the work by exercising, drinking lots of water, trying to get enough protein in, and limiting my carbs and sugar. My average sugar is between 15 and 20 grams daily which as a past candy lover, I could achieve that number in a 10 moment of my past life. My.joints feel better.
Had a lovely video chat with youngest son last night. He was very talkative and we were able to chat about 2 hours. He bought a Swiss military jacket from an online military surplus store. He loves doing that! He had to model it for me, showing me all the pockets the multicolored camouflage jacket had.💖👍🏼 Getting a slight "chipmunk cheeks" from taking prednisone. Health wise doing well.
The photo of us was at a gallery in Gig Harbor Wa.
The photo of her and Tucker they're in one of the various "Meadow foam" fields in front of her home. Taken by her 8 yr old granddaughter💖. She has about 20 bee hive boxes scattered around the acreage. Her plants and flowers around her home are really enjoying all the bees.
Today is 4th dose day, and grocery shopping day. I still have
-6 wrapped packages of pizza slices (2 slices in each package)
-rotisserie chicken
-spam slices
-Salmon
Last night we took my sister out for Chinese food. I had had 2 slices of a large pepperoni, sausage, tomato, mushroom, and black olive pizza in Anacortes WA so I ordered some baby bok choy in a simple sauce with some rice rice. I ate maybe 1/4 of it. So today is some of that. I might freeze lots for later ramen bowls.
Sorry, starting off with this page and haven't read past posts in awhile. I will get up to speed soon enough.🙃💖

Terri - I always love it when you give the details of your "program". It is working great for you. A good reminder that there's a lot that goes into being healthy and not just about cutting calories. Glad your heel is feeling better.
Elaine - sounds like a lot coming up for you with the move to the mid-Atlantic. Have you started any house searches there yet - Zillow or Redfin? That's so exciting. It will be nice being near your son and DIL. Sorry to hear about her mom.
Margaret - thank you for your info on the AARP drivers course.
Barbie - I have one of those overhead fluorescent light boxes in my kitchen like you have. So far all of the bulbs are working. I can see it being a challenge to get them changed. If I bring in the stepladder I could probably do it as long as someone is on the floor to help switch the bulbs.
Lisa - how neat looking at the before and after photos of the little house demolition - and the changing seasons. I'd say the cost of it all is just part of the investment. They aren't making any more land. I understand your feelings about a 4 hour drive alone to see your sister. I know I've lost my driving muscle for long trips. Or the desire to fly on an airplane - I logged a lot of air miles during my parent's final years. Teleporter quick trip, now that I could do. It would be great to visit foreign countries like Rori is doing and who knows, that might happen someday, but it's not at the top of my bucket list. Thank you for the updates on our Kim.
Beth - kudos to your son on his fitness journey. It helps to have a mentor like he has. Do you have an idea of the next mattress you want to try when the trial period for this one is up? Thank you for the info on your current torture rack, by the way.😁
Definitely agree on the chicken breasts. I don't grill anymore but often have to use my needler to tenderize the huge breasts, and mostly buy chicken thighs or tenders. I splurged and bought three thin cut Ribeye steaks at WinCo last weekend. I probably overcooked one by half a minute - it turned out tough! I have 2 more in the freezer, not sure if I just want to cut them up for stew meat or what. Maybe I'll needle them. I'd been buying them at Safeway when I want a special treat and never had the tough problem before. 😣One steak makes 2 portions for me.
It's overcast this morning so far, maybe I'll get motivated to weed eat and prune a bit when the sun comes out before it gets too hot. I was able to get a 15 minute early walk in at 5 am, and just did a 20 minute Don Fiore Tai Chi. Next will do my housewalking with weights.
Then, it's probably time for a short nap.

The building on stilts is the Air B&B we were in. All the houses and many of the commercial buildings were on stilts. This was in Mississippi near Louisiana and the Gulf of America (Mexico). I got to walk in the Gulf on the trip looking for shells with my friend. This is where Katrina made landfall that big destructive hurricane. It was very humid, but the temp wasn’t too bad so was comfortable.
I had a whole lot more typed but hit something on my keyboard and wiped it all out! Grrrrr. I wish there was an ‘undo’ for this app.
I love yellow kiwi’s and eat the peels on them, but not the green ones. The green ones I find the peels to be too tough and ‘fuzzy’!
AARP driving class: I have taken twice now. Once in CT where it did give us a good discount, and once here in NM where I found it wasn’t worth it with the insurance I have now. I will need to research that a little more to see if I can get a better discount on my insurance.
Today is vet for Lucy. Found she loves to play fetch, go for walks, and play tug-of-war. I took her for a walk this morning and played ‘fetch’ with her after, she has now passed out! She is getting better with the biting. I don’t have as many ‘scratches/bite marks’ as last week. Slowly but surely working out the biting. She is currently all curled up beside me.
Thought for today:

Lanette - Do you have an Instant Pot? I've found it does wonders for something like a tough piece of meat… Just chuck it in on the pressure cooker, covered in beef broth, for about five minutes. I even use it when I'm making meatballs and marinara - if it's fresh tomatoes, I make the marinara in the IP after I have them all roasted up, along with the garlic, etc., put the meatballs in, turn the IP on for 7 or 8 minutes on high pressure. and the meatballs are just wonderful.
4 -
Lisa - Yes, I have an Instant Pot - sitting on a shelf in the garage, lol. I know a lot of folks love them and I have used it few times in the past. I'll bring it out next time I tackle a chuck roast.
I have a friend who puts frozen chicken breasts in hers and voila - they come out great.
Thanks for the reminder! 😍
I'm looking for a new 12" frying pan. I have an old cast iron I don't use much anymore because it's so heavy, and a 12" non-stick Green Pan which has little chips on the surface now.
Last year I got some Bday money and went crazy and bought an 8" HexClad skillet and lid and love it. The 12" HexClad w/lid is a LOT of money. I see Amazon has plenty of similar looking knock-offs for about 1/3 of the price, getting good reviews.
There's something about the design on the surface of these HexClad type pans that does the trick. Will do more research.

For those wondering, I don't expect to hear from Kim until early to mid-afternoon Pacific time - they expected the surgery to last the largest part of the morning.
Lanette - Just saw a piece on the Hexclad, a bunch of British guys on YouTube. This is the video, and I love these guys. They've been around for quite some time, and Corey and I have watched a lot of their stuff lately. Loads of fun, both chefs and "normals" who also do a lot of cooking. The channel is called Sorted Food:

Dang MFP - can't decide whether it did take your correction or didn't!
Anyway… I went down and worked for an hour or so until my glasses fogged up and I was getting a little staggery. The darn heart meds are starting to kick in about 75 degrees now and I was just dripping. 80% humidity certainly didn't help any. Hopefully I can push that up a little higher as we move into summer. It's 75 degrees by 10 a.m.! Anyway, showered and back to presentable.
Talked to Corey for his lunchtime call, and about to run down to Lowes and return two climbing roses that never even put out a single leaf. I don't expect them to be all crazy and blooming already, but at $20 a pop, and 8 weeks in the ground, they need to do SOMEthing! 😂Don't think I'll replace them with anything else today. Will think about it for a little while.
Will check in when I hear something,
Love,

Hey all! Today finally feels like summer after what seems like rain forever. 90degrees and every window open, I love it! I’m down with a cold, so have not been to the gym for a couple of days so as not to spread my germs. But I have karate tonight, so I think I will mask up and get it done. My DH is out weeding and taking care of my little flower gardens. He is a saint and too good to me. In a short time, I have to take my son/grandson to drivers’ ed for an hour behind the wheel. I affectionately refer to him as “the boy” and he frustrates me beyond reason and brings me so much joy in the next moment. Such are teenagers!
Michele, yes, he keeps me busy. My steps are set at 5000 because with my bone disease I can’t walk/stand too long without causing discomfort to my lower spine and hips. So, it is usually a goal and warning for me, LOL.
Lanette, that fawn was so beautiful, what a sweet surprise and to be able to stroke it!? Wonderful! We get a lot of wildlife on our 3 acres but none that allows us to approach them. We get deer, turkey, coyote and fox. I love watching them and getting pictures when I can but would love an experience like yours. It is fun doing karate with the boy. He has been in Karate since he was 5 or 6 and has begged for yours for me to join him. It took me too long to finally say yes. Now I love it and burn about 350 cals in an hour. I leave sweaty, or as we call it, leaking awesome!
Tracey, yes, very small world! I miss visiting my grammy up there. Many fond memories (except when my older brother ran over my head with a toboggan, LOL) I recall the snow drifts that covered the house up to the roof. It was beautiful and fun.
Barbie, it is pretty country especially along the rocky coast. My DH is an amateur photographer who has taken many scenic photos here. I’ll try and dig up a few of his shots to share. Most people are Stephen King readers, but we have several great authors from Maine.
RVRita, I loved your lunges clip. Since taking up karate I have threatened my DH (in jest of course) to behave because I know Karate now! LOL.
Barbara, I certainly am very proud. I am very blessed with my two biological sons (now ages 33 and 37), my son/grandson who I adopted (my youngest son was 17 at the time and in over his head). Plus, I have another grandson who is 11. They are all wonderful young men.
Mo, I’m so glad you were able to explore my home! All your destinations were wonderful choices. I grew up in Standish, spent most of my adult life living in Portland and have lived in Gorham for about 16 years. It’s about 15 minutes outside of Portland. Lots of country, but very close to the city for fun.
You all have a terrific week! Enjoy!

Lanette … my son bought me the 12" Hex Clad with lid for Christmas. It is a very nice (and expensive) pan. I watched Lisa's video link above and thought they were spot on with their review. (They were also very fun to watch!) I have a gas range and have found I really have to watch the temp. My burners also light uneven, so I get a "hot spot" no matter what pan I use. I just pay close attention and spin it around. The pan would be perfect if my stove top were perfect. Having said that, I also really like "The Rock" pans by Starfrit and they're not quite as pricey. They're forged aluminum with an xtra thick nonstick coating. They tend to be manufactured a little wonky … out of round … so sometimes the lids don't fit. By the one I use most often for doing eggs is an 8" and it didn't come with a lid with it. For the money, I would probably buy another Rock instead of the Hex Clad.

Well, so much for a walk. I needed to renew my Silver and Fit membership. After hours and hours come to find out that Blue Cross/Blue Shield has not renewed the contract, I now have to use Fit on Health. Well, as long as I can get a gym membership, that’s what matters. But getting thru…..!!!!! Registered with the local YMCA, now I have to find out that I can(hopefully) use this membership at the Y in FL like I did with the Silver and Fit. I have a call in to the guy who handles all this (he must be a good customer of Clairol’s having to deal with insurance!) to be sure that I can. I suspect that I will be able to, but I just want confirmation
Mo – I hope your headaches aren’t something serious, I’d never heard of a baby being born with no face. How does the baby breathe?
Lanette – when we lived in PA, Vince had bad hay fever. Whenever he cut the grass he had to wear a mask. Now that we live in NC, he doesn’t need the mask. I’ve heard that you can eat the skin of a kiwi (I love them), but I’ve never actually done it. The skin is more bitter than the kiwi. I’ve had on occasion had to eat a little of the skin. Good job on the breakfast!
Rita – Bonnie (one of the cats) was a real biter when we got her. Well, I can understand. She was very small and our understanding was that she was caught in the wild and given to the Humane Society. So she probably had to fight for food, etc. What we did whenever she started to bite was we had a toy (pretty long) that we would give her to bite on. She never really got over the biting, but she didn’t bite nearly as hard as she did.
Travel – I have done very little traveling. Now Vince traveled alot for work so now he has no desire to travel. I was home with the kids so I’d like to travel now, only I want to travel with my best friend (who has no desire to travel) So looks like I’m stuck home
beth – how wonderful for you and your son that he has decided to lead a healthier life. I hear ya about the chicken breasts. It’s crazy. Being so large, sometimes they can be so dry, too. I like to get the bone-in chicken breasts, but that makes it hard to cut it in half
Lorna – Love the “leaking awesome”
Jess just called and she wants us to pick her up tomorrow (Colby’s not going, he has to work all weekend) We need to stop and get the cake also
Ceramics tonight.

My daughter just graduated from prep school and is home for the summer. First thing she did…make frosted sugar cookies! Ugh, going to be much harder to stay on track with an 18yo in the house. She insisted she was thinking about making it easier for me to resist by making sugar cookies rather than brownies. She knows my weaknesses too well! 😂
To help me make sure I’m not losing muscle, and to reassure me that my body composition is changing even if the scale doesn’t, I took a chance and bought a smart scale that registers muscle mass, visceral fat, etc. Even if the measurements aren’t absolutely accurate, I figure it tracks the trends of those metrics to give me more points of information to keep me motivated. Feeling a bit obsessive right now, but these early weeks are make or break for creating habits and not giving up, at least for me.

Pip - You're crushing the competition! Well done, as always. How much longer 'til the finally tally?
Lynn in CT - Knowing what you need to succeed within your own habits, etc., is 90% of it. The obsession fades, in time, and the only thing remaining is the habit.
Michele - I am wavering soooo far back and forth on the traveling thing, and I hate being wishy-washy. For my own peace of mind, I have finally decided that I'm still not ready to travel. I just don't have full control of my own processes - not enough for my own peace of mind. I am just not one of those people who can poo all over themselves in public and carry it off with any equanimity. Not sure I've ever known anyone who was, for that matter. The control is growing very slowly as the days go by, but there are still enough bad days that I don't trust my own body. 🤷🏻♀️So, it's decided for the time being. Might revisit in the fall, if things are continuing to get better. Maybe I'll make my sister a coat and take it to her when the days begin to cool and the leaves begin to turn.
So… I couldn't resist and picked up two purple phlox paniculatas, the tall ones. The greenery beside and between them are a couple dahlias. They were just bulbs, planted them at the same time I planted the roses that I had to replace, and the dahlias thrived and the roses did their best imitation of a couple of sticks with thorns. Annoying. 🤔😳
No word yet from Kim - she said yesterday the last minor dose of an anesthetic put her out for hours afterward, as she is not used to any drugs of any form, so she may well simply still be sleeping things off.
Later, my dears,
Love,

It was so warm line dancing at the Elks yesterday that I took off my gloves and hoodie, as did another gal who’s always cold. We are SO GLAD winter is over! DEXA scan followup this morning to see how I’m dong off the Alendronate for 2 years. Fingers X’d. Blustery winds since late May will finally calm tomorrow, and it will be what we coasties think of as hot, 75F+. Brief bio, I’m an Aging (75) Hippie Mother of Dogs,
living in a little doublewide cottage in the woods above the sea, with husband Joe and three dogs. Mfp helped me go from 165 (at 4’11” !) in 2008 to 145 but there I stayed. The past few years I’ve eked down to the low 130s, would be happy to take off another 15 or 20 pounds. Mostly I log every bite, lick or sip and try to dance at least an hour twice a week, hour long pack walk Saturdays, walk the dogs down to the power line a few times a week, and sometimes stroll an hour with D or T. Joined the gym for their Better Bones and Balance class (and their shower, long story). Coach moved away and the class is now Classic Fit. Problem is its on the same day as line dancing and I get so wiped out I sit a lot at dance class, then come home and collapse. Much as I need the external discipline of an exercise class (or I just won’t), I’m thinking it’s just too much. Priorities and decisions.
Allie whatever do you buy at Tractor Supply?
Mo no wonder you are so compassionate for your patients, after all you’ve been through. Amazing grace.
Lanette brilliant substitutions!
Rori, “Morocco”? Eeeee!!!!! Take us with?
Pip love that table, well done!
Elaine yah the “both of my husbands” stopped me for a moment, but even if you hadn’t clarified you’d be safe here in our judgement-free zone ;}
Margaret 8-10 hrs? That’s quite a class.
Terri sorry to hear about your heel pain.
Machka when I’m stressed, I try to remember “breathe out out out… your body will remember to breathe in for you.” Sounds a lot like your physiological sigh.
Heather miserable weather and a dentist appointment? ((hugs))
Barbie “If you don't know how to something, it's fabulous to find someone who does” oh yeah. Glad to hear Annie’s less needy in the mornings. You’ve done a great job with her.
Beth so sorry the new mattress is keepy you from restful restorative sleep. Still can’t understand why you have to wait 30 days to return it. I’d call back and speak with the manager/owner.
Rebecca brava for doing the work, taking off the pounds. Feeling better is the reward. Yay!
Lisa when Corey has to go so far away to fix a machine, that must make for a very loon work day. Does he get comp time off?
Rita love that pic of Lucy. (hugs)
Lorna thanks for explaining about your son/grandson. He’s also blessed to have you! Remind me about your bone disease?
Lynn in CT sugar cookies instead of brownies? Oh noooo!
Whooshing good vibes to our dear Kim.
Time to feed the pack.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Barbara, I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) when I was 27 years young (now 55 in 2 weeks). It's a form of arthritis that develops when young, late teens and early adults, usually males, lucky me. It can cause the bone to fuse together and effects my lower spine and hips mostly. But I also get pain in my knees, ribs and neck. My dad was found to have carried the gene, but he never developed AS, but he passed it on to me. Oddly neither of my 2 older brothers developed it either.

Thanks. The ride is usually the first weekend in September . The final tally for raising $$$ is I think in October or November. The final tally for riding miles is around the same time.
my problem is having 2 events back to back. The bike ride in September then the 1/2 marathon in November and I haven’t even started training for that. I wanted to give myself as much of a cushion as I could so when I do start running, I won’t be adding as much miles and even if the other riders start riding a lot it will still take them awhile to catch up or pass me.
i already made my 5000 mile goal so i guess i could increase my goal to 6 or 7000 miles

Evening ladies
I bought a small carabiner for my keys and stuff for ear mites for Siri..I went back for the drs appointment ,only to find out once he came in,I no longer need to see him since I had the transplant.so one specialist down.
I bought bad stuff at the store and I swear its the prednisone that is making me crave it..now they want me off the Trulicity at least until the 16th ,I just want to get back on the higher dose so I don't have the cravings I do.
It was in the low 90s today and I turned on the a.c. so my electric bill will be
going up.yuck…
I have learned to travel alone,I went on the cruise by myself last year..and will be flying to Tennessee in July for 6 days

Lisa - I enjoyed that HexClad video. Thank you! I've never had luck cooking salmon in a skillet so I would end up putting it in the oven, which I don't like. So I appreciate that cooking lesson there. I have a glass cooktop like the chefs used. I'd say the skillet was impressive. Not sure the knock-offs have the quality….maybe paying full price is worth it. I'll keep my eye open for sales. Black Friday has to be coming up one of these days.
I use my 8" one just about every day and yes, medium heat is best. I've forgotten and turned it on high a few times but no harm done. I still use my grandmother's 80 year old (I think - it might have been her mother's) cast iron skillet to fry 1 egg. Now, that's stickproof.😁
Beth - I appreciate your input too. What size pan were those chefs in the video using? Maybe they said and I missed it.
Lorna - love "leaking awesome," I need to remember that. 😁 Isn't it fun living so close to nature? Whenever the fawn is big enough to leave my back yard, it's going to have to jump a 4' fence.
Lynn - I think that smart scale is a good idea. Did you get it off Amazon? I wonder how it works. I'm at the age where I'm trying to build - at least maintain - muscle. Something like that, even if it's just in the ballpark, would be a benefit.
It was a sunny afternoon here after an overcast and kind of drizzly morning. Sprayed a few more weeds in the driveway - Some of them are tenacious and don't look like they are suffering enough after Alex's crew sprayed them a week ago, lol. Then cleaned up the ditch a little with the weed eater. Found another little oak tree and several baby Douglas fir taking root there. Welcome to the jungle.
I dug out the shade cloths and got them ready to drape over the tomatoes when the temps hit in the 90's this weekend and Monday. They might not be needed - I put the containers where the plants get about 8 hours of direct sun, though the afternoons get pretty toasty here and the wind picks up.
I made an appointment last week when my back was really hurting with Dr. Lisa for tomorrow morning at 9. I'm doing better now and almost cancelled it but will go ahead with it to get more tips and get some questions answered. I'm also curious why she ordered fasting insulin on labs the last time. It came in at 11 - is that bad? good? Maybe she wanted a baseline with the prediabetes stuff going on. T said she wants to go with me again this time. I'm OK with it - she's in her early 50's, and I want her to learn as much as possible about women's health when they reach 70+. She's the daughter I never had.

When my daughter was a toddler, she had the most beautiful head of long curly hair. But…. it was a booger-bear to comb, untangle, wash, etc. She was so cute when it was styled, but styling it was a fight every single day. I took her to the hair salon and asked the stylist what would happen if we cut it off short. She said my daughter would have a beautiful cap of short curls. I said, "Do it." She did it. Every curl was gone and her hair was straight as a string. She looked like a boy. I was devastated. I felt like crying. I could not believe I had done that to my beautiful daughter and her hair. That was exactly how I felt today when I picked Possum up from the groomer. Bless her heart! She looks like a little fat, gray pig. I'm sure she is much more comfortable as she goes into the summer months, but my cute little fluffy, black-haired dog is no longer! The good news is that it will grow back. Meanwhile, I need to learn the right words to use so that this doesn't happen again. I told the groomer to cut it short for summer, but to leave some long around her face to be cute. The length on her head is kind of what I was expecting on her body, and I was expecting some long bangs and whiskers on her face. The good news, even though you sure can't tell it from her pictures, is that she has lost a pound in the three weeks since we weighed her last. While there, I got her info switched over from my sister-in-law's account to mine and officially changed her name in the record from Lavender to Possum, which is what she answers to. Edited to add: And yes, we weighed her before the groom, so the pound lost is not hair.

I guess it really is all about the angle. The picture the groomer posted on her Facebook page looks much better than the one I took. I still like her better fluffy.

Did your daughter's hair grow out curly?
I've had various people tell me I should get my hair cut short because it would probably be really curly then. But I'm not so sure because the curl didn't show up till my hair grew longer.
