Just for Today.... ONE DAY AT A TIME... Daily commitment for 2025

Today was my husband's last day convalescing at home before he returns to work, and he woke up feeling a good bit better after his first good night's sleep in a week. He worked online for a few hours and then relaxed for the rest of the day. I had an early appointment for bloodwork, but it was quick and easy. My daughter came over for lunch and stayed to help with the pool and garden. It was so nice to spend some time outside. I even got some of my hanging baskets done. I had a late afternoon appointment with my GP to discuss my thyroid sonogram and the next steps - biopsy and endocrinologist. (One of my sisters had her thyroid removed about 10 years ago, so talking to her over the weekend really helped prepare me for today's follow-up.) All in all, it was a pretty good day. My daughter stuck around for dinner, and I threw some chicken and veggies on the grill. I've got plenty of leftovers for some easy meals this week.

Wow, that was not a great day… Up side my weight was down a tad this week so it can't be all bad.
The lady who goes to mom's everyday to make sure she takes her meds is on vacation this week so I need to go every day. I need to find a way to not let her hurt me. Even when I do everything she asks, she still finds a way to make me feel bad. Sunday it was making fun of my shoes. I was dressed for church and had on chunky heels. They are actually my favorite heels, but her commenting on how they look chunky and I shouldn't wear such high heels bugged me. It just kills her to stop with "I like that dress." there always has to be a negative attached. Monday I took her groceries and money to pay the kid down the road to mow her lawn. She complained that she didn't like the reliable lady I had mowing her lawn for the last month, so I gave her $20 (very small yard lady charged $15) and told her she could get whoever she wanted. I'm going to guess when I go today the lawn will not be mowed.
Today will be a long day at work preparing for the EPA, et. al. who are coming to audit tomorrow.
My interview is this afternoon, I'm looking forward to it in a weird way. I think I have a very good chance at getting this position, but you never know. After that is trivia night. Can't stay out late because I need to come in early Thursday.

The days have gotten away from me. Dad has his cardiac procedure Monday.
I was surprised to see the scale had dropped another pound since the 1st but I'm afraid its more related to stress and not eating enough for last three days. I also haven't been doing near enough exercise.
The procedure itself went ok , but he had complications in recovery . So he was monitored all day to get him more stabilized. We got home late Monday night , much later than we hoped. They placed three stents . It didn't fix all of his blockages but it got the worst of them. The remaining blockages will have to be managed with medication. He is on restrictions so I had to go the store to get them some needed items yesterday after work and then visited for a little while as dad wasn't feeling well. Mom is still sick on top of it but I think improving. The doctors also changed a bunch of dad's meds which might be contributing to how he is feeling. The med changes had both of them confused so I spent more time yesterday evening getting that all straightened out. Dad isn't feeling great with the med changes so I am trying to keep tabs on things.

Got a lot done yesterday but not all of the stuff was on my list. I’m good with that though! Didn’t get out for a walk. I was planning to walk later in the day but then we had storms around us and I was afraid one would pop up while I was walking so never quite made it out the door. Batch cooked some foods and washed and cut up stuff for a salad bar in my fridge. That’s time consuming but not hard. Today I need to clean the fridge and finish with the rest of the produce. We bought a lot of fresh foods this week at Woodman’s and it all just kind shoved in the fridge wherever I could find space. Im much more likely to make a salad if the fixin’s are washed and easy to grab. Im lazy that way! And I hate throwing veggies and fruits away because I didn’t eat them in time.
They called and schedule my MRI of brain and chest/Abdominal/pelvic CT scans for early July. I found myself getting anxious about it already. Then I decided if they DIDNT do the follow up scans I’d be even more worried, so I’m trying to focus on being grateful they’re following me closely and treating me proactively. I cannot control the future. But if a mass shows up on a future scan, I will do whatever the next steps are at that time. Worry won’t change anything. Easier said than done, but it’s how I’m trying to approach it.
@angf0679. You ordered your new keyboard! Yay! I always wanted to learn to play piano.
@HappyDonkey75 it sounds like a very stressful time with and for your parents. My dad needs stents placed and possible start if dialysis and he is in complete denial. I live 8 hours away and he won’t let my stepmom go to appointments with him. It’s frustrating to say the least. Hang in there. I hope the change in meds gets easier for him. Music and podcasts is how I cope with stress too…sometimes while walking.
@pridesabtch Good luck with the 2nd interview! Your mom and my mom should hang out. My mom makes a point of asking me how much I’m eating and pointing out things like how she doesn’t know why I go to the same hair stylist every time because “she never does a good job”….those are just a few comments from the top of my head, but you get the idea. I used to leave her house spittin’ mad, sometimes in tears, sometimes so hurt I couldn’t shake it for days. Now I tell myself “that’s just mom being mom” and try to remind myself that it’s a representation of who she is, not me. She must be miserable inside to see so much negativity all around her, and I guess I kind of feel sorry for her in that way. Hang in there. It doesn’t matter if she likes your shoes or not…she doesn’t have to wear them, right? 😉🫶
@more_freggies76 that sounds like a wonderful vacation. I’m envious! 😊☀️
@Bex953172 I’m sorry to hear about Ash’s dad. We all grieve differently and I wish I had some advice. All we can do is control how we react to things ourselves. It’s all fresh for him right now, so I pray he finds peace with time. Hugs to you, friend. 💞
@beachwalker99 You have a pool? Oh how lovely! Is it in ground or above ground? My son has a large above ground pool I can use whenever I want, but it’s not heated and the water is still too cold to jump in. I’ve always wanted one…well, actually I’ve always wanted to live on a lake, but I’d be very happy to have a pool in its place! ☀️😎😁

Hi!
I hope you don't mind me dropping in half way through the year.
I was on MFP quite a few years ago, had amazing results and then things just went wrong in my life. And, here I am, 5 years later, with all my original weight and a load more back on. I was in a bad spot, but I've decided this year is the year to get my life back.
I'm from England and, last year, I moved to the coast. What a change this has made!
So, here goes...
My commitment for Thursday is to get my 5,000 steps in, be active for 60 minutes throughout the day, and, to put my washing away that's gathered up since I started building a new garden room.

@PackerFanInGB and cschmitz110515- thank you for the kind thoughts and prayers. I am sorry your dad is being difficult and not willing to do what he needs to do to get care. Its so important.
He's doing better today and so is my mom getting over her virus.
Late again on this post, but mornings are so busy around here between the dogs and cats and horses getting fed and getting myself ready for the day.

Yesterday was pretty good. Interview went well. It was an hour with the plant manager and he said he was recommending they bring me on-site for a 3rd interview. It is definitely a process, but it is a really good job. The EPA and gang are on site today to view our abatement systems. It's a high stress day, but it is a good thing.
Unfortunately, I seem to be getting sick. I seriously have zero time for this.
After work I need to go to a bike club function to see if we can get more volunteers for the half marathon bike patrol. Right now we have very few volunteers.
After that it will be home and bed.

Happy Thursday friends. I didn't get all my to-do's or ta-da's done yesterday so I will carry them over to today! ;) Just one of those days yesterday. Husband had to swap out the kitchen faucet which made him crabby, which spilled over onto me and made me crabby, and well…you can guess from there. It's a brand new beautiful day!
@Hollymac1982 Welcome back to MFP and welcome to JFT! I've been coming back to this group since 2016 (i think?) and it's just such a great way to stay accountable. Great friends in this group. Glad to have you join us. :)
@HappyDonkey75 You show horses? How fun! I used to show Australian Shepherds back in the 1980's and I just loved it. Good luck!
@pridesabtch Congrats on the 3rd interview! Sure is encouraging! Good look with inspectors today!

No time to post this morning since I'm starting to get up earlier each day to walk dog before temps are too warm, then it's on to other stuff. How the heck did I get myself out the door before 6 a.m. to walk dog in my working days?!? LOL

@Bex953172 - I'm sorry to hear that Ash is having such a hard time. Grief is a process and the only way ahead is to go through it. As you support Ash in his grief, remember that you and your girls are grieving too, each in your own way. I've found that looking at photos together and sharing stories helps a lot, especially with kids. The old photos and funny stories are great. Laughter is good medicine.
Later on, doing some kind of project to remember the person who passed can be really therapeutic. A year or so after my MIL passed, my husband took his mom's old recipe box and used one of those computer photobook services to make a family cookbook. He included photos featuring my MIL and his grandmothers and some of the family's favorite recipes. He made a copy for his dad and each of our kids for Christmas that year. It makes me smile every time I use it.
@HappyDonkey75 - I'm glad your dad's cardiac procedure went well despite the complications. I hope he has a smoother recovery from here on out and that you can get some breathing space. And I hope focusing on time with your dogs and horses can give you some mental space as well. Good luck showing your horse!
@pridesabtch - Caring for our aging parents can be challenging even on the best of days. It's especially hard when they respond to our care with criticism and hurtful remarks. My sisters and I find that we have to keep reminding ourselves that it's not really about us. For my mom, I think it's usually some combination of physical pain, side effects of meds, some mental decline, and her fear and frustration at her loss of mobility that provoke a lot of the harsh remarks. Of course, that doesn't always take the sting out of the criticisms and complaints, but having each other helps. If you can, try to set some boundaries - one sister set a strict "no criticizing the grandkids" rule - and make sure you have a good support system.

Started feeling bad yesterday and it blew into a full fledged summer cold/fever complete with cough, sore throat and headache. Went home a bit early, and would have liked to stay home today, but really needed to come in and get a few things in order. Wish I could just lay my head down…
Nothing planned for today.

In a funk yesterday, probably because I had a really poor night's sleep. My intended "quick nap" wound up stretching to over 3 hours, so then I had trouble settling down and stayed up too late. I also think the stress of juggling multiple health concerns and trying to lose weight just got to me yesterday. I really want to get all my appointments on the schedule, but I've been frustrated with delays by my GP's office this week. But I'll try to have a better day today. My daughter's boys have a half day and are coming by for a swim this afternoon. It always cheers me up to spend time with them.

Sorry so many seem to be going through health issues, either their own or loved ones. I don't say something often enough, but you're in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs! We are in the same boat: hubby's eldest sister struggling with UTIs that don't respond well to antibiotics & have landed her in hospital multiple times, my sister's oldest step (she will be 57 next week) has multiple health issues & is down to 80# but hanging in there. Sometimes it's a daily struggle.

Friday commitments:
To get my 5000 steps in for the day ✔️ over 7000 so far
To be active for 60 minutes throughout the day ✔️ started the day with a 15 minute walk then it's been a hectic afternoon of moving stuff back after our builders
To finish sealing the windows of the garden room we have built and put the batons up inside, ready for cladding. ✔️⛔️ I've sealed the windows inside, still need to do outside. Batons are almost done, but I've run out of batons so need to pop out tomorrow to get some and finish that off.
Saturday commitments are:
I'm looking after my mum so it's a bit of a difficult day, but, I want to cook a healthy meal for her,

Weigh-in and log it in the morning.

I love the "no criticizing the grandkids" rule. I think I could handle my mother's comments better if they were only about me. When she criticizes my children or grandchildren, that cuts like a knife. Can I ask how your sister enforces that rule? Does she leave or does she just remind your mom of the rule and that's enough?
0 -
I too wish I knew the secret. I called my mom out when she criticized the kids when they were young, but it did stop her from playing favorites and hurting the younger ones feeling. My older daughter was the golden child and even she took exception to how grandma spoke to both V and I. Now V will only go over if I go with her and has no strong desire to be there. Luckily, their paternal grandparents were amazing and loving.

Happy Friday everyone! Late checking in, but better now than forgetting altogether! ;)
@beachwalker99 I sure do understand how difficult it is having medical things hanging over your head. It's hard, and if you are an emotional eater like I am, it makes everything that much harder as far as weight goes. I have begun thinking of it as working toward a healthier lifestyle vs losing weight. I have to catch myself and reword my thoughts. It's hard not to look up medical stuff, but try not to go too far down that rabbit hole if you can. We are all different and Google doesn't distinguish. I have scared myself many times looking up medical stuff vs keeping a list of questions to just ask my doctors. (((HUGS)))
@Hollymac1982 Your dog is an escape artist! Good luck with that! What kind of dog do you have? 🥰
I hope y'all have a great day!
