Today was a high protein day, chicken nuggets, steak, and two protein drinks. The rest was just raw veggies, 50/50 salad mix and of course my yummy tea.

Here’s some happy news. This 9’ dingy, Kirby Schlotterback’s mom bought it for him, Randy and Deb (brother and sister) after his dad passed when he was 12. We used that little boat the we called lil bets to goon the lake for one 4th of July on lake Wawa’s. It was the best day because we were the smallest boat on that lake but we ghad the best time. The motor even had its own little suitcase that it came in. When we moved back to Washington, we left it there with a friend of Kirby’s. She ended up giving it to a lady who moved to Florida and here it is! When Kirby and I got married, we used that boat and filled it up with ice for water, soda and beer. That is sooo cute.

😀 Cheryl, I read the message you posted on my wall. The wall is something I don't know anything about and I didn't know how to reply to you. I use this thread for all my communication. I have been putting one foot in front of the other and taking care of the things that need to be done and ignoring everything. Jake's adult children came up immediately and helped me with the initial shock. Daughter will be back for a visit soon.
😀 Pip, that boat was just what you needed at this sad time.

Lanette – Jess did take the job in Charlotte. I don’t think this is her dream job, but I also think she is somewhat concerned about the cuts to research so she took it. Looks like she and Colby will be staying here for a while (maybe a few months) while they decide what to do re: rental/buying. Honestly, it really doesn’t bother me. I know that their schedule is different from ours (for example, they stay up late, I for one don’t – Vince does). I’ll need to get more info about foods they like, etc. Which reminds me, I need to ask them what vegetables they’d like for dinner.
Barbie – yea for finishing! Doesn’t it feel so good?
Pip – oh, that is so beautiful! Yogi’s eyes have such a sad look to them. Hard as it is, you are making the best decision for him. When I die, I absolutely want to come back as one of your pets, you take such very good care of them. What an adorable boat ornmental
Allie – how in the world did I miss it??? Tracey is pg again. How wonderful. Dehlia looks so “impish” in that last pic. Love the eyes
kylia – I, too, am sad that the days are getting shorter now. Oh, well, this too shall pass.
Cheryl – welcome back! Glad you still have your husband...lol
Last night Jess got all upset with me Seems she went to see Lynette and Lynette asked her if she wanted her vet books back. Jess was thinking we were just getting rid of her books. I tried to explain that years ago she’d given us the textbooks saying that we should sell them. Well, they were so old that we ripped up a lot of them and gave some away. Even Vince said that’s what she said. She didn’t remember any of it. Why she got so upset is beyond me.
Lynette bought a house in November of last year. At first she wasn’t going to move into it until after tax season (she’s an accountant). Now she’s changing this and that. Honestly, it didn’t look like a fixer-upper to me. She said she wanted to be in by the end of June for someone’s birthday. I saw her today (mainly to see if Jess’ upset about the textbook made any impression – and it didn’t) and that’s not going to happen. She says she wants to get it done before Ken moves in. Some things (like lightswitches) you can do after you move in. I am wondering if she’s looking for an excuse not to move in. Wouldn’t surprise me if next year’s tax season came and went and they still weren’t moved in. I just laugh to myself. Wait until the first time the power is out and she doesn’t have water (since she’s on a well) or the first time you lose pressure in the shower because someone started the wash or the dishwasher. I tried to tell her how we couldn’t build the pool where we originally wanted it because that’s our repair area for our septic because I know she’s talked about building a carport and something where you can change when going into/out of the pool. But the fact that you need permits just went over her.
Put Vince’s latest ceramic outside and pulled some weeds. Not much, just one bucket full. How in the world do you get rid of this stupid Bermuda grass???
Margaret and debbie – I need to use those fertilizer sticks because I know me and I’d overfertilize – BTDT.
Yea Annie!!! You go girl
Jess just left so Ganon and I took a walk around the block. Now to take a shower and get ready for bed.

Allie - is Tracy excited about the little "surprise?" Maybe happy and in shock? Did she say what Kyle's reaction is to the news? Strange how things work out with these babies.
Debbie - so sorry to hear about your sister, wow. Hope she's doing better. How severe are the symptoms from the stroke? If she needs nursing care, I would imagine it is too much for your mom. I haven't worn my weight vest in a while - let us know how you like it!
Annie - when does the boot come off your foot? You have my sympathy, such a nuisance when you're trying to get things done. Good job with the hand weights, a good place to start.
Kim - I think today someone was taking you to have lunch with your mom? Hope it went well. Maybe your brother would be willing to do more (if he can be trusted that is.) You've truly been a great help to her - caring for her after her surgery and keeping on top of things.
Barbie - love that Annie had a playmate today. Will that other pup still be able to come play with her now and then after those folks move? Congrats on finishing the fence washing project, bet it looks great.
Cheryl - I remember you too! And your horse. Welcome back!
Pip - what a nice memorial for Yogi. Lucy and Chispa will get to take center stage - I'm sure they'll miss their big brother. Cute boat and neat story. It looks so lovely with the flowers in it. Where was this photo taken?
Ginny - sounds like good news from the doctors. All systems go for your move and the next chapter of your life.
Kylia - love your kitties - what kind of tags are they wearing on their collars? Some kind of trackers?
OK, the story about the Crocs/Balance and Equilibrium. For the past several months, I've been having problems with equilibrium. Not vertigo or dizziness, just often feeling "tipsy" and that my feet were having trouble feeling anchored to the ground, especially when I was standing. Off balance. I wasn't sure if it was arthritis in my toes, my Hoka and New Balance "rocker" shoes and the OOfos soft squishy soled slippers or what. I asked Copilot to do some digging about this and here's what I found out:
Balance is a three-part system: vestibular (inner ear) + proprioception (joint/foot feedback) + vision. Copilot supplied a lot of detail on this which pertains to my situation, I won't include it. But I learned there's more to good balance than just being able to stand on one foot for a minute. Some fixes…..
1.) Inner ear: I haven't been taking Zyrtec for allergies on a regular basis, mostly because I hate taking meds. My ears are almost always at various levels of being plugged. Thankfully my nose is clear, I rarely sneeze, but there's something going on there that is affecting my ears. So I decided to go back on it yesterday in case there's a vestibular component to this wooziness.
2.) Proprioception (joint/foot feedback): I'm ready to throw those Oofos in the trash can. I found a pair of Crocs buried in my closet that I bought several years ago. Remember our Ketone Karen? I recall she lived in her Crocs. I didn't wear them then because the "nubs" on the insole hurt my feet, but yesterday I dug out a pair of light insoles I'd kept from other shoes that I put orthotics in and stuck them into the Crocs. They are now very comfortable to walk in, soft cushioning but solid. My toes are no longer trying to find a floor today and, I forget I'm wearing them. That's the sign of a good shoe/slipper.
And I bought a pair of Keens today when I was in town. I used to wear them all the time. The podiatrist didn't like them because they weren't "rocker" shoes. Well, the orthotics fit so let's see where this goes. And like the Crocs, I feel anchored to the earth since they are fairly flat with non-give soles. I was telling M about this at lunch today, she said she hated "rocker" shoes after she lost her balance wearing Hokas and fell and injured herself.
3.) Vision - Not sure. I know stairs can be a hassle because of the trifocal line messing up my depth perception when my feet are trying to zero in on a step. I tried progressive lenses years ago and was unable to get used to them, but maybe it's time to try again. I'll ask about this next time I'm at the optometrist.
Lower Back Bonus - with the few changes in footwear and Zyrtec, my lower back feels better today than it has in weeks. Copilot says it might be because the muscles in my lower back were trying to compensate for the unsteadiness in an effort to keep me upright. Maybe so, let's see how things are in a few days.
Before I close, I watched an interesting ZOE interview about how walking reduces inflammation. Sounds like inflammation causes all types of problems for us from dementia to heart disease. Here's the video. About 1 hour long. Spoiler - 10,000 steps is the best, especially if a person is overweight.

Kylia - I watch a lot of prerecorded shows so I can pause, rewind. We have the option to also pause live tv as well.
I would be grateful for that generator as well.Rita - I think you chose a perfect time for a puppy too.
Heather - Kaitlyn has suffered from panic attacks since she was 9 years old. She has said that when you’re in the midst of one nothing you know you are supposed to do comes to you, you truly can’t breathe and think you’re dying.
I do know that over the last few years they have lessened for her, one thing is Brodey recognizes her signs at the outset, so he asks her if Fred is being an *kitten* again and she tells him what Fred is telling her. Fred is the name he has given her anxiety. She said that it’s like she has someone to be angry at, someone to blame besides her own mind.
The second thing is she has a bottle of pills in her medicine cabinet. She has never taken one, but she said just knowing they are there if she can’t get it under control has helped her calm sooner.
I hope John’s mind eases soon, it’s a terrible thing to feel and to witness.Debbie - I bet your husband is going to take some time to heal after her passing. It will be a lot to process I imagine.
Lisa - you need to start listening to Egg. He’s watching out for you.
Glad a nap healed you up.Rosemarie - I think with pets there is no baggage to deal with, there hasn’t been harsh words spoken just mutual unconditional love. It is a precious thing to lose.
Allie - That must have been surprising news.
Lanette - I don’t like rocker shoes at all.I have been wearing progressives since 2014. The number one piece of advice I was given is to make sure when they are doing the measurements that the glasses are sitting in the place they naturally fit on you, not pushed up properly because they never sit there.
I have never had a problem in all of the pairs I’ve had.I have booked a vacation at the end of September and am hoping that all the stars align and I get to go to NB.I told my BFF on Monday evening and she got very excited. She called me back on Tuesday to tell me that her and her husband were watching seat sales and if any of us sees a good sale they’re grabbing the ticket.
I think I need a visit home. My last trip home for pleasure was 2016. I think it’s time.

Hey guys,
Annie - Thank you for the reminder, I just found my cooling towels that Corey brought me home last year at this time and got them in the freezer. They definitely help. Smell a bit like frozen broccoli, but there are worse things. I did get one of the gel neck bands, too, but it was not helpful for very long at all. Threw it in the freezer too, though. Every little bit helps!
Tracey - I'm in progressive lenses, too, and it definitely took a while to get the balance sorted out. Looking at your post, I just realized that my recent issues with balance may well be due to adjusting to the new orthotics in my shoes. Since I'm in them whenever I'm up and walking - I switch them between my house shoes and my street shoes - I adjusted pretty fast. On the glasses, though, I'm back to the eye doc in July, and I think I'm going to see about going to frameless glasses - the blind spot at the bottom has nearly gotten Egg stepped on a couple of times lately, and I want to get larger lenses and less frame to see if that will help. Bless Kaitlyn's heart - she found her true match in Brodey, didn't she. Those kind of partnerships are so rare.
MRI Results
Good news/bad news/good news on the MRI - I do have a tear in one of the rotator cuff tendons, but the good news is, it's not torn completely away. Add in inflammation, bursitis and the arthritis that I have in every joint, and the rest was not surprising
But the other good news is that so far, I haven't lost any muscle in that area, so it should respond well to PT to strengthen the muscles around it, stop the tearing and start building it up. I need to work on improving my posture too… stop rolling my shoulders forward and stop pushing my chin forward. It's possible that a steroid injection in the right place may be helpful, too.
I'll talk to my doc sometime in the next week or so, but will start with the exercises in the morning, see what I can do on my own in terms of PT.
I got kind of tickled because in texts with Kim, she asked me if Corey had taken off work to take me, and I didn't understand why she asked. Turns out she's claustrophobic and has to be sedated to do an MRI. I don't have that issue, and in fact, I fell asleep twice and moved both times, causing a bit of blurring.
I remember napping on my father's construction job sites in the summer time, just curl up in a corner where it was safe. Didn't bother me any. The MRI was seriously noisy, but if you let me lay down and close my eyes, and put earplugs in, I'm probably going to fall asleep. 😂😴😊
Cheryl - I remember you and your horse as well… Glad to see you back!
Rita - I'm so glad Lucy has been a balm to your heart. She looks like a lot of fun.
Rosemarie - It's always good to see you pop back in, dear. Sounds like you're staying busy.
Pip - Just thinking about all of you.
Allie - Definitely a "wow" for your Tracy's news!
I am up because of the shoulder, but got the generic Voltaren gel on it - supposed to be less irritating to the gut. Hopefully that will settle things down so I can get back to sleep.
First weekend without rain predicted in more than a month. Going to be busy. Need to see if I can get back to sleep.
Hope it's a grand weekend for everyone. I think I'll get Corey's work jeans in the wash before I go back to bed, and then I can get them out on the line once the sun's out… probably be good physical therapy for a rotator cuff, right? Right… 😂😘
Later,
Love,

So sorry Pip

John's had two good nights now. I think he was so exhausted he had to sleep. He found an old CD that he used to listen to and had a session or two with that. The book and CD was recommended by a CBT therapist he went to at our last house. He won't use any apps that he has to register, or pay for. Here's hoping this current batch is over.
Another v hot day. I have the dental hygienist at 4.30 today. It must be her last appointment of the day. I hope she's still feeling energetic! 😐️ I haven't been to a hygienist for years. It's not included in the NHS subsidy rates, and I resent paying the full price. My dentist isn't particularly worried about my teeth, but there are a few spots that need attention.
Last night's jazz was excellent. It was in a church in Hove, so the pews were very uncomfortable, but I managed. The quality was much better than the last one we went to with the family. We used the bus both ways, as it was quite near. Felt very lucky.
The girls went to a Taylor Swift tribute last night, in Brighton, with their mum and another school friend and mum. I was delighted to see that Bea was wearing the dress we bought her for her birthday last year! 😍
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Good Saturday,
Yes, those are tracker tags on my kitties. They worked okay, but I just got new ones that are GPS tracking. They aren't bothered by the. After Cali's stunt a few months ago I really like to know where they are.
Pip-Hugs!!
Rocker shoes and progressive lenses....I prefer less between the soles of my feet and the ground. I don't mind heels, but there is something about the front of my foot and the ground. I have had progressives since I got glasses. I adapted well because of advice I was given. "Look with your nose". Meaning you point your nose the direction you are looking. I agree the fit is important too! My SIL only wears hers for reading.…why...because they are fitted to wear higher on her nose and she doesn't wear them there.
Speaking of sisters....mine is actually planning on spending the night with me!!!! I am so excited. It will be all Thursday evening in July, but I will take what I can get!
Like Lisa, I believe we have about 5 days with no rain coming up. We are in a heat warning tomorrow through Tuesday. Lots of watering....
Machka- Hugs!
Better get productive.....really don't want to go to work today....oh well...
Make the best choices you can in the moment.
Make someone smile today.
Be kind to yourself and others.
Be grateful that we have bodies that are healthy and mobile.
Lots of love

😀 With the fence and the weeding finished, I planned to learn more about the leaf blower by clearing all the surfaces in the yard today, but the joke was on me because it started raining lightly before midnight and will continue all day. The rain will be great for the yard, but I'll have to make a different plan.
😀 Heather, what a great photo. You and your family have so many great adventures.
😀 Kylia, I would have loved a tracker on Bernie except that the one time I tried a collar on him, he managed to remove it early on his first day wearing it.
😀 Lisa, when I had the first symptoms of what turned out to be spinal stenosis, I resisted the suggestion of an MRI as a diagnostic tool because I was terrified of the lying in a closed space. The doctor tried all sorts of other solutions which, of course, didn't work. Almost a year later I was in the waiting area at radiology for my mammogram and a nearby man was telling someone about how he had to be sedated for his MRI and the next day I asked my doctor about it. She prescribed lorazepam for me, I had the MRI, saw a neurosurgeon, had surgery, and was finally back on my feet pain free. Later I had another MRI under sedation to diagnose a spinal compression fracture.
😀 The rain won't deter me from my walk and I'll find useful or fun things to do indoors later.

This past week …
- Husband's Physio Appointment (Tuesday)
- Swimming (Tuesday)
- ZOOM with our Bee Group (Wednesday)
- Candlelight Concert - Fleetwood Mac Tribute (Friday)
- Play at my husband's school - Matilda the Musical (Saturday)
- Classic 100 Concert 2025 - Live on TV tonight (Saturday)
- As much work as I could squeeze in plus a bit extra into the evenings on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday because we have an end of year commonwealth submission at the end of the month. Wednesday was just a normal work from work day.
- Attempting to make some headway on a section of my cycling club's webpage.
- Exercising when I can.
And, just to add a bit of extra excitement to the week …
On Thursday I barely made it to where I park to catch the bus the rest of the way into the city. My van was running really rough at slower speeds and I ended up coasting into a parking spot. At lunch, my husband took the bus into the city and we went to where the van was parked. The van started but was not impressed by the idea of going. Kept wanting to stall. But we got it into a service station where I called RACT (automobile club) for their roadside assistance.
The guy came and hooked up the diagnostic tool, and all sorts of errors came up. So he arranged a tow truck for us. The tow truck came and towed my van home. It will get towed into the shop next week.
On Friday I hired a compact car, and we had to take the bus into the city to pick it up.
Since Friday night's Fleetwood Mac performance, we've been listening to Fleetwood Mac much of the time when we're home. It's been a while.
I have been sneaking exercise in wherever I can … pacing when I walk Rhody each evening, pacing at the bus stops, getting up frequently during commercials on TV and doing some housework, happily walking when I have to park a little way from the places we're going.
And I've lost a little bit more weight … 10.8 kg (23.8 lbs) since January.

@kymarai … Rhody (our black cat) has a tracker too. His is attached to his harness so that it sits on his back. He isn't bothered by it … except sometimes when I ring to see where he is. He gets an expression as though telemarketers keep calling up when he's trying to snooze! 😄
Other times he'll actually come to me when I ring him.

Today was get the packing out of my nose day…. And I was hoping for it to be so much better than it was so today was a bit of a cry, feel a bit sorry for myself day, but I am pulling up my big girl panties and reminding myself how much I have. Tomorrow is a in person counseling appointment and a video call with the surgeon. Then Friday I have a friend’s adult child driving me down to take my mom to lunch. She is really worried and concerned about the situation and feels it is so unfair that in her older years her children are unable to take care of her.
The unpacked nose has gotten rid of the musty flavor everything had. Hip hip hooray, sugar still is tastless mush - hip hip hooray! It turns out that all of the packing could not be removed because some had broken down too much so for the next 8 weeks I have to flush my nose twice a day, something I have never done. And had no plans to do – but plans have just changed! I am very easily grossed out and always have know that a job in the medical world would NEVER be filled by me. But I will face this grossness and overcome!
That reminds me of when I had my deviated septum fixed in 2020.
They packed my nose so much, I could hardly even breath out of my mouth! But that was only overnight. Some of the packing was removed the next day, but the rest remained for at least a week and became quite painful.
After it was removed, I had to flush my nose twice a day for several weeks … where you squirt water in on one side and it pours out the other (similar to a neti pot). At first I was a little freaked out but then I found it funny.
I hope you continue to heal well.

@LisaInArkansas … I'm like you with MRIs. I love them! They're a rare chance to take a nap in the middle of the day. They give me the earplugs, put the headphones on playing my choice of music, get me all comfortable … and I'm out. I'm amazed I don't twitch or anything … I just fall asleep and have a great 30 minute nap. I just wish they'd give me an extra 15 minutes in a darkened room so I can wake up slowly.
But like you, I can sleep just about anywhere.
I've dozed off during root canals, during various medical procedures, in waiting rooms, on the bus more times than I can count, in so many lectures, seminars, services, concerts, movies …
I've actually got to work to stay awake in many situations … like if I want to hear the whole lecture.

Wow! Machka.you have lost a good amount of weight! One of the last things we did as a family was go to a Fleetwood Mac tribute concert. And the lady who played Stevie Nicks was wonderful!
I went swimming once this week. I have to make a reservation to do this. I do the breast stroke. I, even as a child did not have the upper arms strength for Free style!. I was suppose to swim this morning, but decided to clean the house! It takes me 6 hours to do what can be done in 2 hours. I have no attention span and get distracted easily! This morning I have been changing pictures around! My mother says..That is cleaning. I said no Mom, that is decorating!
I went to a local live concert 2 weeks ago. It wasn't very crowded. I met my son and daughter in law afterwards for dinner. I just was craving live music! I thought I might know some people there but I didn't know a soul!
I signed up to watch the Club soccer games that are on going! Maybe having the game on in the back ground will get me cleaning.
Best,

Gardens and Fish: When we used to have an aquarium, once a month I would take out about 1/2 the water and replace while cleaning the tank. I kept that water and used it on my plants. Worked wonders! I also use- used coffee grinds and a gallon jug I would put used egg shells in. All of which I used on both indoor plants and outside garden. I went easy on the houseplants b/c of the smell, but boy did it make them lush! If I find a picture of my plant window from back then, I will post so you can see.

😀 Rosemarie, good idea about the soccer games. I am able to clean, weed, walk, shred, or do other chores while listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks. I am entertained and distracted and the times passes easily.
😀 It's too wet to take the mower out and blow out the underneath with the leaf blower but I started this morning by checking to make sure I could even turn the mower over to have access to the underneath. Yippee. I can do it. While I was in the garage, I swept a bit so it looks tidier out there.
