Barbie, thanks for starting us in July on a solid footing!
This afternoon I made a large roast for husband. One whole bag of baby potatoes, about 5 medium carrots, and I always put a piece of yellow sweet onion on each corner of my Pyrex containers. I always cut the roast in half, season it and brown in bacon drippings. I put about 4 cups of beef broth in the Pyrex dishes. When the meat is done, usually the potatoes are almost fork done, but the carrots usually aren't quite. So I separate the carrots from the potatoes and back in the oven they go. I have to pick out all the onion pieces because heaven forbid there's any pieces left in the beef stock!😂😂
I will probably have a couple pieces of roast cut up, with some of the veggies, and some brown rice and quinoa in a soup tomorrow.
This month July will be interesting as my dose for my GLP-1 medicine is increasing to 5 mg in my injector pen. I will keep drinking 80-100 oz of liquids, and 80-100 grams of protein a day. I still need to exercise. This medicine's side effect is being tired. So there's that.

Thanks for the new thread- love the new start.

Thank you all for the sweet messages. They all are so special and mean a lot.I am sure we will have a few hard days ahead of us but for the most part, I think most of those are behind us.Yes, it has been a very long hard 5 yrs. Many many times I seriously thought dh would pass before his mom from all the stress she put on him. Thankfully, that part is over. I am sure there will be some other types of stress but not to the degree he has dealt with.Today we went to the mortuary to get the process started. He has a few phone calls to make to stop his dad's pensions, etc but most everything else is taken care of or can wait.

After work walked to Food Lion to get Vince more gatorade, then bowling. After bowling stopped at Sam’s to get more dishwashing detergent. We’ll probably go thru more if Jess and Colby decide to stay here for a bit. Went in the pool. Now making cupcakes for Vince. Don’t think I’ll ice them, he can use the chocolate syrup and we’ll see how that goes.
Mo – I just finished the book “Say You’ll Remember Me”. Good book. Not what I expected. I expected more of an emphasis on the dementia but it was really about how dementia affects relationships. But a good book just the same.
Lisa – you’ve done a great job (as usual). Good view
Allie – happy birthday!
Tomorrow starts one of my months to count the donations at the church.
Veronica – welcome to a great thread.
Don’t know why, but suddenly I got real tired. Think I’ll just take a shower and go to bed.

We are camping here at Pismo Beach CA. This is the first trip without yogi. I bought a frame and had some pics printed and surprised my husband with the pictures. Gave him the choice as to which pic to keep in the trailer. He picked this one. I colored the frame up a bit. We are still taking his loss very hard. I’ll show the other pictures later. We haven’t received his ashes yet. When we had our goldens I was part of a golden retriever forum. Once I lost them all I lurked in the group because I missed them so much and I still do. Every time I see a golden on a post or when we are walking the kids I remember. I think that will be the same for this forum, I will be silently looking at your behalf babies and remembering when we had ours.

pip- I remember my goldens and Levi (springer spaniel) with all the love I have, and yet I know I made the right decision at the time of their passing; as you have with all of your dearly loved pups. They touch our hearts, and each pup keeps a piece of our heart, but hearts grow more pieces for more pups, when the time is right. Take your time, honor Yogi and when the time is right another pup will be waiting for you and Kirby.

I’ve read through today as I had the opportunity but didn’t really take any notes.
Barbie - thank you for another new month! I depend on you women so much.
I worked for an hour this morning, then went to pick Michaela up.
This afternoon, her and I went with our neighbour and her little guy to the rec centre for two hours of swimming.
Michaela has no fear, she was jumping off the side doing cannonballs and she doesn’t even know how to swim. My neighbours son, is scared of the water and has had 3 rounds of swimming lessons.Tonight her and I lazed around, we watched the CMA Fest I recorded earlier this week. She is very much into the girl power singers. They said, “still to come, Luke Bryan”
She said, “he better not be singing, Shake it for Me”. I hate that song, it’s rude to our kind.”
Next up was Kelsea Ballerini and even the stuffies had to sit up pay attention.Tomorrow is Canada Day and I think we’re going to go to a pancake breakfast in the morning. Maybe some other things in the afternoon.
Fireworks tomorrow night but I don’t know if I’ll make it to see them.
I have to work on Wednesday. I don’t like when holidays are in the middle of the week.Tracey in Edmonton

Happy birthday Allie!!!!
Really warm for us here today, a little cooler for the rest of the week. I have my Medicare wellness appointment tomorrow morning. Should go OK I think. The YM is cancelling lots of classes the next 2 months so they can use the rooms for kids day camp, etc.

I've been having trouble getting much sense out of my brother about my visiting him. Found it a bit puzzling. So I now know that this Friday he is going in for his postponed prostate cancer operation, and he also said that his wife is signed off work with stress and anxiety. He said the stress was to do with the work itself, and I do remember that she was very upset because they were relocating to a place that is much more difficult to get to. There may be more to it, but I don't know. He did say that they were fine between themselves. So ..... that explains my difficulty in getting an invitation. I think she is just exhausted from the strain of the last year, when my brother was going through horrendous treatment for throat cancer. She was an exemplary carer. She has always had anxiety problems, as has her daughter, and is such a caring person. Sometimes you have just had enough.

Heather: I am wishing for the best outcome for your brother's surgery on Friday!
Allie: Happy Birthday!
Debbie: I am wishing the best for you and your DH. I hope the post in post traumatic stress syndrome is something your husband can handle. He has been stressed enough. Time for him to enjoy life! And for you to enjoy life!
PIPCD: I love the memorial picture of Yogi! The frame is very different! I like it!
Lisa: I love the blue flooring against the white paint on your porch!
Rebecca: I am accepting being alone more! I especially do better if I do not over watch the news! I can read biographies and books about policy but the minute to minute news causes me to text people and send emails! I have joined a book club that reads light, entertaining books! I did live alone for 5 years in my 20s! This time is easier than in my 20s because I have raised a family and know that I was loved!
Rori: My granddog loves to roll on the grass! I have not gone barefoot on the grass as of yet!
Barbie: It would be terrific if you could get to your son's wedding invitation!
I have more notes that I will enter later. I do a meditation group I have to get ready for! Happy July to everyone! Thinkibng of you all!
Best,

Good morning my friends!I am irritated with my scale this morning. For three weeks I have ridden my bike every day, and been very good about calories, except for a few restaurant meals. It says I'm down four pounds so on second thought, I guess that's reasonable. I'm just impatient.I am going to try to start stair climbing with my Dad today. I bought a calendar to use for a log. There is some risk for my broken foot. The doctor said I could reduce wearing the boot today if I had no pain. But there is still soreness. Still, I'm looking at maybe two or three flights of stairs which is not much more than daily life. Maybe I will wait for this afternoon and see if I am feeling less impatient.
Lisa hope you get good news for your shoulder. And you are doing a great job on your yard!
Lanette Yay for no sugar/ white starches! Sugar is evil. One of my toughest challenges.
Rebecca it took me months to feel like I made progress controlling my thoughts. But the benefits of meditation kick in long before it feels successful. Even then there are days when it feels like a crazy monkey in my brain. That's when I need the stillness most.
Tina Yay for yardwork done! I think the only permanent yardwork is to pave it over with concrete. ( And then sweep!) I just stopped going outside. Too hot, and too many mosquitoes. I had small trees pulled out of my mother's flower garden this spring. It's chaos out there. But I hired out trimming the bushes and mowing the lawn. So it looks okay from the street.
Ginny bravo for managing a move with a bad back! So hard to know how much you can do without hurting yourself.
It's six thirty and Dad is up, but refusing to wear pants. He says he doesn't need them.I was thinking of disabling his computer. He keeps talking about buying a car. I don't think he would do it online, but maybe. I could password it, or unplug something, or change the input for the monitor. It depends on whether I assume responsibility when he can't use it. He tries to look up the church schedule, with very limited success. Hmm.
Anyway, wishing you all a happy, healthy, safe and free day. Oops just realized I need to post to the new thread. Sorry!Annie in Delaware

Okay, moving on to July!
Barbie thank you for the new thread!
Rebecca sorry the medicine makes you tired.
Veronica welcome!
Debbie thinking of you!
Michele that book sounds interesting. I know my Dad has become lousy at conversation, and inconsiderate overall, so it affects our relationship.
Tracey yes the way music portrays women has changed but there are holdouts.
Heather best wishes for your brother.
Rosemarie I gave up TV news. Too upsetting.
Okay, now I'm good!

June Accomplishments
- Lost 11.1 kg (24.5 lbs) since the beginning of January. June has been all right for weight loss! 1.5 kg = 3.3 lbs in June. Weight loss goes slowly.
- Cycled 153 km in June in 8 bicycle rides, the longest of which was only 26.3 km. It is winter, after all!
- Climbed 316 flights of 20 stairs up plus landings at work.
- Walked 56 km.
- Continued Learn to Swim classes!!
- Worked full time in June with one long weekend and a bit of time working from home.
- Still madly busy at work doing 1.5 jobs. Learning. Re-learning. Work has been rather overwhelming since the beginning of the year and doesn't appear to be easing up.
- Attended husband's follow-up appointments for his ruptured Achilles tendon.
- Dealt with van issues for almost 2 weeks!
- Working on cycling club's website.
- Bee Group.
- Attended Candlelight Concert
- Attended play Matilda the Musical
- Organised a few things in house.

- Read 4 books.
- Continued reading Bible every night.
June Books
It was a good month!
I gave all 4 books 5 stars! For different reasons, of course.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I rarely laugh, and even more rarely laugh at a book, but for some reason The Romantic Tragedies of a Drama King had me laughing out loud at a couple points. And I chose the book because it was the only one available so I could complete a challenge.
The other three were thrillers.
Again the Peter James book ended up in the Brighton/Hove area.
@TerriRichardson112 … I don't have a specific weight goal in mind but the approximate goal is still off in the distance. I still have a way to go. 16 kg is my first goal … and then there'll be more.

Tuesday
- Walked 3 km
- Climbed 30 flights of 20 stairs plus landings (and went down more)
- Swam!
Today I did 50 metres freestyle, 50 metres back stroke, 50 metres survival back stroke and attempted breast stroke!
The backstroke and survival backstroke are all right.
I'm getting better with the freestyle. I can do it! I'm very, very slow and 50 metres is about it without a break. But it's kind of neat that I'm actually doing it!
The breast stroke is new.
Our van is back … about $1400 later. But it should run better. I'm just glad it's back.
One month of winter finished!!
Happy Canada Day!!

Good morning, my chicks,
Welcome to those who are new to this amazing group of women!
Barbie - Thank you so much, as always. Your constant presence is an integral part of this lovely place for all of us.
My goals for June were to be lighter and be healthier. Couldn't make a budget, due to the unforeseeable costs involved for the demolition of the house on the small property we bought. That is finally done… (Yay!) and the last invoice for the roll-off dumpsters is paid, as well. While unexpected in timing, it was something we had hoped to be able to do, and never needs doing again.
Regarding my two goals, I'm one pound lighter (was 163, now at 162) but health, unfortunately, deteriorated slightly (shoulder issues), so only accomplished one of my goals. My goals for July will be the same as usual…
- Be lighter
- Be healthier
- Stay on budget
Concentrating this week on beginning my physical therapy exercises for my shoulder, and have hopes that yesterday's steroid shot will make that accomplishable without too much pain. Should begin to feel that relief by tomorrow, hopefully.
Staying inside mostly - the humidity outside right now is 93%, and even at 71 F (22 C) it's like trying to breathe in a swamp. Two weeks of no rain in sight, and I'll need to get out there and water Corey's garden and my flowers.
Heather - Hope your brother's surgery is swift and successful, and his recovery is rapid and pain-free. It sounds as if they're both going through a lot right now.
Machka - Well done on your weight loss! Sorry the van was expensive to repair.
Annie - I can't imagine your life at the moment, living with a grown man who doesn't believe he needs pants. Is there any relief in sight? Is your sister coming to visit anytime soon? I hope so - dealing with all this and a healing foot is a lot. Thinking about you.
Rebecca - Some of that fatigue may be the change in diet as well as the medication. Don't forget that "calorie" is literally a measurement of energy. When you cut your caloric intake sharply, you're also taking your readily-accessible energy source away from your body. At the same time, you're also taking away the sedative effect of the amount of food you were eating prior, so you don't sleep as deeply. The combination of the calorie deficit and sleep loss does create fatigue, along with the fatigue from the meds. It's not forever, by the way! Your body adjusts - and the weight loss means you're hauling around less, so that boosts your energy quite sharply. It just takes a while to get there.
Tracey - Just love Michaela. She's "my kind," as well. 🤣
To our compatriots to the north, Happy Canada Day tomorrow! U.S. Independence Day fireworks began this last weekend already, and will continue through July 4th weekend, especially with it landing on a Friday this year. Corey's going to the speedway with his brother on Saturday, and I'm going to stay home and reassure Egg that they're not shooting at HER.
Cor's taking Friday and Monday off, so a nice long weekend for him. Tracey - I was never fond of mid-week holidays, either.
Making asiago Caesar pasta salad for dinner, with pretty much everything that will go in a cold salad thrown in, celery, olives, diced ham, etc., with crunchy chicken on top, straight out of the air fryer (spicy for him, original for me). Nice summer dinner. High calorie, but I'll skimp a bit on lunch to make it less impactful. Time to go get that tri-color pasta going so I can get it nicely chilled before I stir everything in.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR6 -
I keep forgetting - I haven't posted a Levi picture in forever… My daughter just began coaching his soccer team (football team, for them on the other side of the pond) and he even scored his first goal! This was taken just after.
I get to speak to him two or three times a week while he's in the truck with his mama on the way to daycare. He's becoming very verbal and charming (he said of my voice that it "sounded like you're so cute!" 🤣). Haven't seen him in more than a year and a half… they're just growing up so fast.
Love,
Lisa in AR11 -
Good morning ladies!
Barbie - thank you for rolling us into July. Wow, the year is half over.
Allie - You looked fabulous and healthy in that photo of you and your 2 friends at brunch. What a cute outfit and beautiful venue. Are you sure you aren't really 55 instead of 65?😁
Lisa - how is Corey's garden doing? I would imagine the heat and moisture has been ideal. How long are Kels and family going to be stationed in Hawaii? I was talking to a friend a few days ago, his DD & her DH were in Hawaii for about 4 years. He's in the Air Force. This spring he was transferred to DC and they are living in Maryland. A big change. Good luck with that shoulder.
Collette is coming to day, she said her back is doing some better but HER shoulder is giving her grief. Still, she didn't want to cancel. She needs the $$.
Heather - sending good thoughts for your brother and his wife. Hope his surgery is a success and you can get a visit scheduled.
Sue - looks like after today we'll have a decent cool-off for a few days. I'm ready.
Rosemarie - I think at our age, the longer we are alone the longer we wish to stay alone (unattached.) Although I have known some elderly gals that couldn't wait to get back on the scene when their DH's passed. And I sometimes wonder what my life would have been like if I wouldn't have married DH. Would I have stayed in Indiana, married a local guy and had a bunch of kids? Who knows. All in all, I'm satisfied with the way my life turned out even with the ups and downs. 😁
Annie - your dad keeps life interesting. I'm guessing he couldn't pull it together enough to actually buy a car online, but who knows. Good to keep an eye out.
Tracey - glad you get a day off and I agree with others here - it sure messes up the week though. How has fire season been in your area? Sure would be nice to not have to deal with it this summer.
Machka - great job with the weight loss. Do you have a goal in mind or just wherever it decides to settle in? Love the view from your house, that purchase was a smart move.
I've had a top molar getting chronically achy so have an appointment tomorrow morning for a new crown and probably a filling or two. Glad they no longer take an impression - so no need to sit there for 15 minutes with goop in my mouth waiting for it to harden. Amazing how technology does it all digitally. I really like my dentist and his staff - very professional and so far he's been "painless".
Welcome new ladies - everyone keep cool!

Hello! I'm new here. Just joined today. My name is Marty, and I live in the Portland metro area of Oregon. I have gained about 15 pounds since my daughter's wedding in September 2024. I would like to get back to where I was then. I am also struggling with (pre) menopause symptoms, so that's fun (not). I work as an educator with special needs kiddos. I am also actively getting my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. So life is pretty busy.
I have 3 (+1) adult children (and 2 dogs) and am loving being an empty-nester (although two are technically still at home, we are always going in separate directions). I have a partner who I've been with for a couple of years (I'm not a fan of the word "boyfriend", so I call him "my guy"). As far as food goes, I am "good" all week long, but the weekends are a challenge because I am not as diligent as I am during the week. I tend to eat out and have a few cocktails or glasses of wine. I joined a gym in March, but haven't made it a habit yet. I used to be an avid hiker but have slowed down and would like to build stamina back up, as well as losing the extra 15. I love the Zumba class at the gym, it's just motivating myself to get there. I'm pretty good with sleep and water. Just need to buckle down and make some thoughtful changes.
I'm excited to be here and look forward to connecting with the community. Would love tips, tricks, inspiration, and support. Happy July, everyone!
-Marty, Portland, OR

Hi girls, thanks for the warm welcome!
Pip- I loved Yogi's picture and frame! What a lovely way to remember him! Those furry babies sure leave an undeniable stamp on our hearts!
Tracey- You have an adorable companion! Fireworks sound amazing! We are having a bad fire season and all fireworks are banned at the moment. Although, when the sun is only down for 2 hours, fireworks don't have the same impact lol, so I guess that's okay.
Heather- glad you were able to figure out what was going on with brother and his wife. Hoping all goes well with his surgery on Friday.
Annie- sounds like you have a lot going on! Don't push too hard on the exercise front and extend the healing time for your foot.
Machka- a little jealous of winter right now! This northern girl doesn't deal with heat very well!!
I am spending a day cleaning house today! Last week I finished out summer school and now won't be back to work until August, so time to catch up on the things I put offline year. Husband's car is in the shop, so he took mine to work, but I don't mind being forced to stick around home. It's going to be hot today (82, yes southern ladies, I know that doesn't sound bad, but we don't have air conditioning and our house is made to hold heat in!) so, not planning on cooking. I made a big pot of chile verde yesterday and will probably pick out some pork to throw in tortillas for dinner tonight. Have a great day everyone!!

Welcome! Mom to 7, I am impressed! I live on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound in Washington State. When I think of a person that lives in Alaska, I think of someone with a hearty constitution! So you're already superwoman status in my eyes! You got this! Just log your food and you're well on your way.
