LESS Alcohol ~ July 2025 ~ One Day at A Time

I will catch up with everyone tomorrow.
Long day today, MRI for my sister (90 min away). No additional info at this time.
Really wanted a glass (or more) but I hung tough and distracted myself.A=0

AF still over here and now I remember another reason why I would drink more in the summer. My legs would swell and ache from the high heat. Even half a glass of very cold white wine would make the throbbing vanish. I wanted to self medicate the other day but said no, I'll book an appt. with a vascular doctor and see what is going on and in the meantime up my pool time to keep cool. But my primitive brain took hold and I wound up eating 2 bowls of cherries so I fed my discomfort (once again). I need to fix this behavior.
Good luck to everyone today, with whatever your mission for the day is -

@itladyee haha only you would come up with a spreadsheet! Love it. Did I miss something? Are the checks for our AF days, or the days we drink? Also, how can I send it to my Sheets app?
I also love your “yes and no” criteria for drinking.
Good luck with your sister’s appointment.
@NonnieDoiron you sound so frustrated and at the end of your tether. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’m married almost 28 years and STILL working in communication with my DH! It ain’t easy.
@chicbuc good luck to your granddaughter this weekend! Very exciting. Thanks all for the vacation mode love and great tips. Going down to the boat tonight for the next 4 days. The true test.
Last night I made myself an Old Fashioned while preparing dinner. Geez, one standard drink of whiskey seems so small! So I made another, and there was just one more serving in the bottle, but I didn’t want to drink it just to kill it off. Yay proud of myself. Until I had a glass of wine later in the night. Not off to a rollicking start.
I am bringing down club soda and a small bottle of cranberry juice to the boat this weekend. Having that before a glass of wine should help cut down. Also, need to do the micro-sip strategy to make my relaxing-time alcohol last a lot longer.Hope everyone has a great 4th!

Not an ideal start to July - hope everyone is having a good start to the holiday!

@globalhiker when eating cherries, you can always think of the incomparable Ben Vereen singing Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries:

@itladyee I hope things went well at your sister's appt. yesterday, hugs to you and her.
@globalhiker 2 bowls of cherries has got to be better than 2 bowls of ice cream, LOL
@Womona Thanks for the video!
Hope everyone that celebrates has a great fourth of July weekend

Working on day 3 AF in July! I fought the wine devil 👿and won! My DH even had drinks yesterday and I declined…now that's progress!
@NonnieDoiron ~ I get the tired but not sleepy. Sometimes (usually when I've been around a lot of people, I get over stimulated and just need to wind down, alone, before I can fall asleep. Cooking is quite a time consuming event, especially when you don't really feel like it. I would have been upset as well and hopefully he can be a bit more mindful, especially with your current stress level. It sounds like you should get a bit of a reprieve at work. I hope it comes and helps! Sounds like a busy weekend on tap, but hopefully it will be fun and not stressful!
@chicbuc ~ Can't wait to hear about the dance competition!! There is something to be said for not drinking and feeling in control!
@SparkSpringtime69 ~ glad you're back. Glad you're enjoying the spreadsheet. It actually is a little motivator for me as I like checking off the boxes….
@LittleSurferGirl7 ~ hope you're doing well.
@globalhiker ~ I understanding feeding the discomfort, but cherries was a wise choice!!! Good to book an appointment to get to the root cause of the swelling and pain!
@Womona ~ you get to check off your AF days! You drink, no check. I'm not sure about "sending to your sheets app", you should be able to just click the link (I'll include again below but I suggest saving it as a book mark so you don't have to go searching) and it open in google sheets (assuming you are using chrome). I'll have to see how it operates with other browsers.
@tmbg1 ~ it's still early, you did great last month and I'm sure you will have a great July as well!
@SparkSpringtime69 @Womona ~ yesterday was an MRI so no real news or change. She's not yet aware of what's going on, yet. Forgive the repetition, but she is mentally disabled, yet highly functional (she lives alone). In my opinion, the hardest thing when you receive a not so fun diagnosis is the waiting to know 1) How bad it is and 2) the next steps. This is the period when time stands stills. So, if I don't get to talk to the doctor, I will tell her just prior to her appointment on Tuesday so she's not in a state turmoil for very long. I honestly don't know how she will react. With her condition, she may take it with a grain of salt or she may put 2 and 2 together (my Mom and older Sister had it) and think it's a death sentence. I just don't know.

July stats (I use Safari, so I didn't know where to find the check mark when I brought up the spreadsheet.) Maybe I'll try again later, but I fear messing it up.😲

Are you using Safari on a Mac, or iPad, or phone?
I just brought it up on my Mac using safari and it looks the same…
You should see a list of names to the left and check boxes to the right.
Let me know what device you're using and I'm try to see what you're seeing.
this is my view via safari on Mac

@itladyee I was just looking at the spreadsheet. Did you notice Line 8? I think it may have changed?

I highly recommend using Three Spirits Nightcap to make a great evening Mocktail. The only downside is it's ridiculously expensive so I only buy it as a treat.

I fixed it. Someone may have been attempting to update.
All: the sheet is simple, don't worry about messing up….if you break it, I can fix it..🙂

Was planning on AF yesterday.
Patio was finished and DH said, I'm making drinks. So we sat out on our patio (can't put furniture on it yet) and had a couple of cocktails. Nice evening, but no checkmark 😣
@LittleSurferGirl7 mentioned this before and it's true…. Two days off and then have a drink and my body starts to rebel.

Thanks, @itladyee, I think it was me who messed up line 8, I had added my name and then deleted it after I couldn't figure out the check mark. Is it just a click? I'm on a Mac laptop.

I can't believe I'm so skittish when it comes to spread sheets. I think I did it?🤞 Anyway, my stats are here as well:

@nbruns83 Yes, you did it! I've been slacking so far in July, so I haven't been able to add a checkmark. I have to admit…looking at that spreadsheet is a bit of a motivator. I will be on board real soon. Once I have 1 day AF, I'm just going to keep going!

@LittleSurferGirl7, thanks for the encouragement. I love the roadrunner; wish I could move half that fast. Happy July 4!

Happy 4th everyone! Enjoy the parties and BBQs. Club soda for me today.
My daughter hosted a party and it was fun. Her bar is huge, floor to high ceiling and takes up half her living room and I had fun perusing through the liquor collection. They just seem to collect it, display it, but not drink it. Ha, something that I would never do.
@Womona thanks for the video clip, good one! All my cherries are gone and I am on to Trader Joes dark chocolate peanut butter cups.

I’ll catch up with everyone soon! I almost caved last night, but I reminded myself (or God reminded me😉) that I’m committed to dry July!
AF=4. A=0I also lost 4 pounds this week!

Nice job @chicbuc - this is inspiring me to seriously lean into a mostly AF July. I have 3 A days so far and am going to really push myself to stay AF through the rest of the month.
9 -
@chicbuc That's wonderful that you're sticking with your goal. I wish I could have stuck with it too! And, 4 pounds is great! Keep it up!
@SparkSpringtime69 It is inspiring isn't it? I had whiskey left over from yesterday. But I've made up my mind. After today, I too, am going to really push myself to stay AF for the rest of July. It may be a little tough for a day. But, I can do it! Like @chicbuc recently said, "Enough is enough!".
5 -
I just checked the spreadsheet. You must be back @chicbuc. I see your name listed. You're doing great!
I can't wait to get a checkmark 😃
3 -
@chicbuc nice work! Plus 4 lbs. of toxins gone! YAY!
No drinks still for me - I'm going dry July also. All I know is today I won't drink and I will eat chocolate chips.

@itladyee Great July numbers so far and good job resisting when your husband was drinking! That's self control! Will continue to pray for peace for you and your sister and your family as you navigate her illness. Sounds like you had a nice evening on the patio.
Dance week was frustrating. IMO, these big competitions are all money. The trophies are handed out to the big studios of 250+ kids and our measly 28 kids get looked over because they want the big studios to come back next year with their money. I could be wrong, but it is what it is. The kids danced beautifully and got a few judges awards and made good memories together, so that's what really counts.
@LittleSurferGirl7 Ma'am…as long as your continuing to try, you will succeed! Good job on your 2 days in June. That means you CAN do it!! Looking forward to your first check mark!
@SparkSpringtime69 Good to see you here and good luck with your goals and getting out of your funk. Glad I can help inspire someone…lol. Seriously, though, good luck. I know how it feels to NOT want to drink and cave every darn time. We're here for you!
@NonnieDoiron Sounds like things will begin to settle down for you at work and hopefully a new doctor can help you get some answers.
@globalhiker Thank you for always bein so encouraging and sharing your journey. You are an inspiration. Good luck with the vascular doc and getting some answers and hopefully some relief. That sounds miserable.
@Womona Happy vacationing, and club soda before sounds like a solid plan before wine. I think planning is a very important key to success!
@nbruns83 Good start to July!
@tmbg1 We see you and your LA days!
If I missed anyone, it's certainly not intentional! You guys motivate me and others more than you know! Thank you!

Quick pop by today to say hi to all my LA friends! I’m back from a trip after seeing my other sister while she was in Lake Tahoe. Such a beautiful place to spend time! We did our sister thing and imbibed too much over a few days while we reminisced about days gone past - good and bad. I didn’t track food or drink which always throws me off. It was wonderful seeing her but time to get back to focusing on my personal wellness goals.
It’s very exciting to see many of you hitting your personal LA goals! Keep up the great work.I leave on a family camp trip this morning and I’m intentionally not taking any wine. We will also have our granddaughter with us. I’m excited for several N.A. days ahead, and welcome it. We will have fun floating, playing games, and getting to bed early. Looking forward to more AF days this week. 🌞
Stay well on the path! See you soon.
