Good morning my friends!
Barbie Yay for the filters! Well-done!
Rori yes you two are inspiring! I can't even imagine a relationship that would work right now. But it's not over yet. I'm 63.
Beth glad the mattress helped with back pain for DH. Bet your dog was cute in the pool!
Debbie a wonderful family memory of shucking corn.
Tracey glad HRT is working for you. Yay for more energy!
My MIL had many unreasonable expectations and my ex got caught in the middle. I used my vacation for sick child care, then she would announce she was coming for two weeks and get all upset if I didn't escort her everywhere. We were cordial but never close.
I have a doctor's appointment for my foot in a few hours. It's feeling better today.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free! Especially safe from horrible flash floods.

😀 Tracey, if you're getting a discount on cable then you are smart to keep it. You seem to like a lot of things are are on broadcast TV and would miss them if you didn't have cable.
😀 Furnace filter what I have is not just a furnace. It's a Trane furnace and heat pump and additional air filtration system. The filters are in the air filtration/cleaner system. I've changed furnace filters before in other houses with no trouble except in the house with the furnace in the attic that required climbing up a pull down ladder. I was much younger so it wasn't too bad.
😀 Debbie, when my mother died, we moved into her house which is what she wanted. We rented several storage units and moved a lot of things out of the house into storage so we could go through them later and so we could move into her house more easily. We didn't finally close out the last storage unit until ten years later. I'm glad I took the time to do all that. I read letters, scanned photos, and made decisions about what I liked enough to keep. 30 years later, I still have dishes, cookware, and decorative items that were hers and that bring me enormous joy.
😀 Mo, You are not too talkative. I enjoy what you write about a life that has so many moving pieces. Keep it up.
😀 Lisa, I made lots of notes for Jake about how to pay bills, do the income tax, and who to call about what. He would have been overwhelmed by all the computer and paper work I do. Now the lists are available to daughter who will be handling our estate. While she was here I reminded her of where my will and the lists are kept so she can have an easier time.
😀 Kylia, you are amazing in all you do.
😀 Rebecca, glad you got to talk to your son. My first job out of college was in Okinawa before all the technology and the one time I got hear my parents' voices was on a call that relied on short wave radios where you had to say "over" when you were done talking.
😀 Lanette, when the yearly service for the furnace and heat pump happen in December, I'll be watching when they clean the filters to be sure I know everything there is to know about cleaning them.
😀 Clutter clearing and Downsizing Last week I saw a truck in a neighbour's driveway. Someone said she had died recently. The truck with a big dumpster sized trailer said "Junk Removal". If that's what my family does after I'm gone, I'm glad I won't be around to see it.
😀 Thanks for joining me for breakfast. It's time now for a shower and a long walk before the chores of the day begin.

Barbie in NW WA,
I picture us ladies all on a big porch somewheres, just sipping our respective morning libations, catching up with our going-ons.💖🤗
I never got to Okinawa but I heard great things about it. Totally different mindset then of lets say a Japanese person from Tokyo. Okinawa is a blue zone, having some of the healthiest, long living residents there.
When we were stationed in Yokosuka, I had to go to the International phone place on base to make phone calls to my family. There were cubicles you sat in with glass doors. Like airports used to have, all in a line. The one time I called my Mom because I had a huge spider in my house, she laughed and laughed! I'm like "no laughing, this is serious"!😂😂
Today I get my new box of meds with the higher dose. I will go to the gym with husband and walk.
Pretty easy week with a haircut on Wednesday, and my teeth cleaned on Thursday.
Have a good day all!

WELL DONE IS BETTER THAN WELL SAID.

Great news, Flea!
Happy Birthday, Beth!
Annie — what kind of rowing machine?
Margaret — I use vinegar in the cup where some people put fabric softener in my wash machine. And since I use bamboo sheets (they feel cool), I pour about a cup of vinegar right into the wash when I wash them.
I use vinegar for a lot of things … cleaning windows, killing weeds, rinsing my laundry, cleaning the bees … all sorts!
KJ — nice to hear from you again.

Still haven't started in the back - had to get other chores out of the way, laundry and medications set up for the week…
Regarding overseas phone calls - during my first assignment, at RAFB Lakenheath, in Suffolk, like Rebecca, I had to go to the NCO Club, there was a whole bank of phones. Had to pay $1 a minute for each call to the U.S. It was, to say the least, not something I did very often. Had to look it up, but my base pay at the time was $420 a month, half on the 15th of each month, and then again on the last day of the month. My mother's voice on the phone was such a lifeline, but I tried to keep it at no more than two day's pay. She's 25 years gone, and I have only memories of her voice, no recordings of any kind. She ducked any time a video camera got near… My kids at least will have videos of me, as long as YouTube archives are available.
Onward - stuff to do… 🐱

Yogi was a good dog. He did come back when called. Great at giving me the ball or frisbee back when I threw it. My thought was to volunteer and train shelter dogs with basic commands so they could be more adoptable, but I just don’t have time, lolol. I was laughing when I read your comments. My first dog I trained to be a therapy dog and got him certified.

M me too with the vinegar. I also use baking soda. I found I like how that cleans up DrewB messes better than than commercial stuff. What ever they put in that the smell from the treatment can last weeks. Baking soda takes care of the stain and odor and it is cheap and non toxic as long as I vacuum it up after it dries and not breathe in the dust!

Another quiet day today. One load of laundry, with bicarb, and vinegar. 😄 John has been complaining his towels are too scratchy. Vinegar is supposed to help, but it hasn't made much difference so far. The towels are probably 27 years old.
Cleaner came. Her frozen shoulder is improving.
John suggested we go out for a lunch or dinner tomorrow, as we haven't got school pickup. Sounds good to me. I think I'm opting for dinner to save having to cook. Tonight is cod, baked with a panko/pesto crust, marrowfat peas, and green beans. I like having a break from cooking occasionally. I cook because my food is so much better than almost anybody else's, including restaurants. I usually only eat food out if it's stuff I can't/don't cook at home. Anything else is bound to be inferior, and ridiculously expensive. 🤣😜
I've started doing a bit of line dancing in my bedroom, from YouTube videos. Prep for the cruise. For me the hardest moves are when you have to stand on one leg for a time. My left leg protests. I hope to accustom it to bearing the weight.
G is up in London, seeing her granddaughter and DIL. They live in Singapore, but come over for a summer visit, then go off to Europe for a holiday. She gets very nervous around the visit. A bit like Rebecca, she is not sure of the DIL's feelings towards her. Her son is working, and joins the family in Europe.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

do you prepare the duck yourself or do you buy it already prepared?
I have a whole duck in the freezer. Got it when I helped at the food bank/food program with mom a few months ago. I have NO idea how to cook it. I did look up a few recipes but very intimidated by all the steps on the few that did sound good.
I have one and have one in mom's freezer to cook for her(trying mine first)1 -
Heather, I have a set of DVDS with 12 Poirots and 9 Joan Hickson Miss Marple DVDs. Will dust them off the next gray day ;) IMHO David Suchet is the best Poirot too. Did you see the Lord Peter Wimsey series back in the 70’s? Ian Charmichael the best Wimsey… ;} There’s a DVD collection on eBay for $25, hmm….
Barbie, “…keep driving and never come back” Yup. Even did that once, part way. Drove from our home in Boise to Stanley Idaho. The higher I got into the mountains, the lighter my heart was. Duty dragged me back, crying all the way. That was when living with Joe, 3 nephews, brother in law and rent-a-son. Dark days. Love my good life now ;}
Michele that’s another reason for the transporter! Yes, not wanting to accept the fact that things happen accounts for our lack of a will. [sigh]
Tracey, 4 days neither coke nor chips? Bravissima!
KJ so glad to hear from you. Exciting and yes anxious-making to have DD, DSIL, Joaquin and Miguel living with you. Sorry your hubs is adding to the pot… Brava for kicking the daily drink habit, that no doubt helps to keep you on an even keel. ((hugs))
Looking forward to pics [hint, hint]
Lisa the floods in Kerrville and Hunt are near where my cousin lived. Almost thankful she’s passed a few years ago, so spared this devastation and grief. Prayers for the families of the lost.
Lanette ((hugs))
Annie does your dad have any tall, stable, church friends who would come change out those bulbs? Hoping the foot Dr appointment gets you some relief.
Margaret and Barbie, BRAVISSIMA for the you tube videos, especially the advice to take pics of everything before touching. BTDT ;}
Rori love hearing your joy after all those lonely sad times.
Rosemarie your insights to Rebecca, spot on.
Beth, dog swimming lesson AFTER 2 hr cleaning pool? Aaauugh!
Mo you are so consistent with your babies’ sleep routine, could you apply that consistency to training Rosie? Coming when called is never 100% but it can always be better. Start in the house. Call her, if she comes, give her a marking word, like “Yess!” and a tiny treat. If she doesn’t come, walk away and don’t talk to her for a minute. Then try again later. Good luck!
Kylia, love the kitten loving pic!
Machka world chocolate day? Woo HOO!
Rebecca .” I needed that Ben Franklin quote “…WELL DONE IS BETTER THAN WELL SAID” ;}
Action for happiness spoiler
1-check out chair yoga
2-can’t eliminate sugar yet, but can reduce by substituting smokehouse almonds for the dark chocolate covered ones I ate yesterday ;}
3-ask for help let T drive to lunch
4-looking forward to Highland Games in August with goddaughter
5-basics, substitute iced tea for Coca Cola. 10 mins BB&B/PT, go to bed on time.
6-pause, breathe: plopped on the powerline meadow bench and gazed at the ocean.Later, lighter, lovelies!
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMODJuly focus: Just one thing from the OMG room. Really.
2025: Chose NOW: to move more than yesterday (see action plan), fuel better than yesterday (hold that after dinner sweet down to two pieces of dark chocolate max), open heart and mind before mouth5 -
Wow, off for the weekend and you ladies added 5 pages of news! I will never keep up, but love reading it all! Happy birthday Beth! Allie, what an adorable picture! I remember the excitement of first steps!!
The news from Texas is hitting close to home! We picked up the twins from bible camp on Friday and our 12 year old left for camp this morning. I hugged him extra hard before we got in the car ( because 12 year old boys don't like hugs in public haha). He was just diagnosed with ADHD, and we'll be trying some medication, but not until he gets home. Luckily, his is fairly mild hyperactivity, but quite pronounced inattention. Hopefully the meds will help in his school work. I homeschool him and work full time, so he has to be fairly independent.
Hubby and I were both down a couple pounds this week. Hoping that continues! Biggest hurdle is still night time snacks!! Have a great day ladies!

my dh is like yours with the tv. He has one on pretty much from the time he gets up. He doesn't have an actual tv IN the bathroom anymore-for a while he did have a portable, back before cell phones. Now he just takes that in the bathroom with him. There is one in almost every room.Only ones that doesn't have one is the two bath rooms. Falls asleep with one on if I am not in there-he now has three rooms that have tv's that he can fall asleep with them on. He needed one in the kitchen, back when we actually ate in the kitchen. It hasn't been turned on in at least a year or more. I could have it on when I am cooking but never think about it. I tend to prefer quiet.

Thought for today:
I went to the aquarium this weekend, but I didn’t stay long.
There’s something fishy about that place.

MFP Weekly Check-In for July 7, 2025
Debbie in Napa Valley, CA - Missed last week- up again this week- Up to 154.6. Didn't exercise except 2 zumba classes, no walking, no aqua . Didn't track food. It all shows. Time to get back on track
Kylia in Ohio - Well....Scale staying right around that 140-143 range. I am still struggling with that. With the right clothes it hides well. I am still nicotine free. I am healthy. I am physically able to do yard work and housework. I have a great support system in all of you. This too shall pass.... Love, Kylia
Rita in Roswell NM - Down 1.1 pounds this week. I now have to work M-W-F at the visitor center as well as the booth. We will see if I can handle it. This will have me lose a little more weight too. We will see next Monday! Green highlight (if it transfers over - it didn't) are numbers that have improved.

Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast - Average WT down a half to 131.2 to from 131.8.
Average steps up to 7772 from 6498 YAY Ps@2s habit still solid Whew ! AF days back down to 57% from 86% Whoopsie.
10 mins step up/knee lifts, shoulder mobility and/or PT, split squats or dynamic balance every day but Friday, I'll take it!
Sue in WA - Did fairly well this last week but too much sugar on the weekend and I can tell. Weight has remained the same at 232 but the exercise is paying off I think. I can walk a little further without having to stop and catch my breath. Also it seems like my jeans and swimsuit are slightly looser. Had a good talk with my doc last week and she offered a Rx for Ozempic but I am really not ready to go that route at least not yet.
Lanette in SW WA – Weight is still over desired range but creeping down. Average daily steps 7699 – similar to last week. Still walking at sunrise most mornings for 15 minutes and walking 10-15 minutes after meals carrying weights 2 or 3 times a day after meals. Back doing better, have been doing a few 10# Suitcase carries paying good attention to posture.

I wonder if he does that to keep from thinking. My brain runs wild, especially at night, so I've started listening to Nick Martin on YouTube read PG Woodhouse stories. I sometimes don't even make it 10 minutes and I'm out. No ads to awaken me, and it's not on auto play, so it just stops when it's over. I use a headphone in one ear and keep the phone covered up so I don't bother my husband. I've listened to all of the stories when I've been awake, so I'm not missing anything. But Nick's voice soothes me, for some reason.
I know your hubby probably won't go to counseling, but he needs to. He has so much garbage and noise to sort through. I feel really bad for him, and for you trying to navigate his emotions.
So good to see you Kelly!
Just summer going on here. Very warm today, but I'm out with the dog sitting in the shade enjoying being outside. We'll need to go in soon as it's supposed to get up in the mid 90s today. For the PNW that's hot. Many people don't have AC. We do, thankfully.
Take care

😀 I was in Okinawa from 1968 to 1970 right out of college teaching third grade for the DOD Overseas Dependents' Schools. I lived first in a quonset hut with two roommates then in the Bachelor Officers' Quarters in a small apartment by myself. It was a glorious adventure for 22 year old me. Okinawa was a beautiful place. The Blue Zone was far to the north where people still lived in the more traditional ways. The city and the US military bases were like the modern world everywhere.
🙃 Some people use quiet to sort through the noises in their heads and some use noise. TV and music have always helped me navigate the tough times. Now with YouTube, I can the music I like on TV.

lots of fun memories growing up on the farm- Only chore I really hated doing was the two weekends each summer we butchered chickens. 100 one weekend, 100 the next weekend. Set up just like we did corn. Plucking was bad enough but the one time mom had me in the kitchen gutting- oh no!!! I still don't like the smell of raw chicken because of that.
3 -
thank you-
I think you are right about him, plus, he doesn't like the quiet- he is very uncomfortable with total quiet.
Growing up, I guess there was always yelling and that was normal for him. I grew up with basically no yelling at all. He just needs noise to be comfortable. He can be sitting in his massage chair, tv on loud, laptop on in his lap, phone in his hand, all the lights on, and still fall right to sleep.
He is having more trouble getting to sleep now- mind is going wild like you mentioned. I told him to start taking a melatonin in the evening. He did a few times and it did work well for him.6 -
And… finished the latest project. Realized I'd rather not go the whole hog and create an entire afghan with granny squares… too many ends to weave in (IYKYK).
So I got a dozen of them done, then I made one four times the size and turned it all into a pillow…
Fun, short, reasonably easy.
Love the ombre yarn… Everything with color comes out of one skein, and the white comes out of another…
Later,
Love,
Lisa in AR
