Heather - what a wonderful date! You look so pretty and happy. Very posh indeed.
I like your analogy of chrysalis and a butterfly.Mo - You have gotten used to being alone. I understand why he would startle you.
Noises for sleeping - when we were first married living in one of the Toronto suburbs I would leave a radio in all night. Rodger worked nights and we weren’t home together a lot. He used to come home and ask me how I could sleep with the noise on. Now, he falls asleep with the tv on and wakes up when I turn it off almost always. You and Corey work so well together each doing your own thing.
I sent a video to my daughter the other day of a Southern woman talking about spoiling her grandchildren. She wrote back and said if it had a Carleton County accent it would be me. I’m from that county in NB.
Annie - I hope the rower is what you are looking for, it would probably be a pain to return.
Lanette - Funnily enough I’m taking some things back to NB with me to pass on to different branches of the family tree. I have very old photos of my grandparents siblings and offspring. Both of their sides have someone in their late 20’s that is interested in genealogy so I’m passing them on for a new generation.
My grandfather had a sister that passed two weeks after having her first child. That child was in the nursing home with my mom for a time and her daughter and I had connected. Last year I found pictures of her as a young girl, I also found a picture of her and her husband. Then some of just her husband and daughter. Her daughter would love to have them to give to her daughter that is wanting to research the family.
On my grandmother’s side I have several photos of my grandmother’s favourite sister and her daughter. Her granddaughter is my age and her daughter is 27-28 and is looking forward to getting these pictures.
So these pictures will be leaving my house and treasured for some time yet.I was taking Advil quite regularly, but stopped and used Aleve for a long time. Come to think of it maybe I need to start again the pain has become worse again. I do know as we talked about it work today that Advil is hard on the liver. If you have a damaged liver it isn’t a good idea. I also know from work that if you overdose on Advil you will die, there is no antidote. I think there are risks to anything and you have to decide if the risk outweighs the benefits.
I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but I believe in a lot of cases we grasp at straws to try to rehab or fix the elderly. It’s usually the family that insists on all of these measures and the poor patient is left to suffer through it all. My brother and I don’t run any tests for diseases on our mom. She has been in a nursing home for 8 years and neither of us feel she has any quality of life. Also the treatments for anything could be so confusing and traumatic for her at this stage. Why put her through it.I’m not saying mom is unhappy in the home, I think she is content but she has also suffered with depression since she’s been there. It’s not easy.
I give a lot of thought about who my personal directive is and that they will listen to what I want and don’t want to happen to me.Barbie - some of my treasures were my grandmother’s and great grandmother’s. I don’t have anything that was my Mom’s because there just wasn’t much to have. Mom kept some of the strangest things, but didn’t keep the sentimental stuff at all. I do have beautiful embroidery work she made for me over the years and a bunch of trinkets about daughters and mothers. Quote books, mugs, frames, etc.
I think I’ve told the story about my Mom giving away her grandmothers rocking chair. My dad and grandmother learned how to re-cane it from a Reader’s Digest DIY book. They studied and measured and put the order in for cane so it would be there for their Winter project one winter in the 80’s. I wanted that chair so much and my Mom gave it to people “in along the road” without even talking to my brother or I about it. I still get teary at that. It’s the memory it evoked, not that the chair was comfy.
Margaret - the only thing I’ve found besides what you’re doing to help tremendously with plantar fasciitis is a pair of recovery sandals from Amazon. They are amazing!
Carol - I don’t like my voice either!!!
Allie - Sorry for your loss.
Pip - that looks cool! And Cold! 🥶 Love it.
Busy day at work today. This evening we kept the grands for a couple hours while their parents went out to celebrate their 14th anniversary. I made a very quick, easy supper for them, hot dogs, potato chips and watermelon for dessert. After supper we walked with the neighbour and her son down to the park. Our daughter stopped at the park on their way back. Jonah caught a ride because his flip flop broke, Michaela the neighbour, her son and I walked back.
I had a dinner roll, a couple ham slices and some cheese for supper. I had a handful of chips too, but it’s 7 days without Coke. I almost caved today but stayed strong.
Tomorrow I am having coffee with the residents at work. I have to stop and pick something up for a treat for them.
When they were asked what they would like they said that they wanted to know is better. So each month on the second Wednesday of the month we take turns having coffee with them. It’s basically a get to know you group. They question your life history, how you came to be working there, and in turn we get to know them. Our Rec therapist, did a whole PowerPoint on herself for them.
I’m nervous and excited all at once. It’s so hot I don’t know how I’ll sleep tonight, the temperature was supposed to drop significantly tomorrow but it’s currently 22C and supposed to be 21C tomorrow

Tracey - I absolutely LOVE the idea of the 'Getting to Know You' session. Maybe you could lead a chorus of the song from 'The King and I'. Do you have anyone who could play some kind of accompaniment. Or even sing along with the track.

Good morning my friends!
Thanks for your support over the rower. I'm sure it will be useful. I got a request for a review, which I usually ignore because it will have my real name. But they clearly advertised this rower as including the free training app. Hmm.
No anti-inflammatory for me. I've got a touch of bad kidney and liver numbers. So I use heat, ice, rest and elevation. And a lot of grumpy attitude of ignore it until it goes away.
Lanette it is so sad when our elderly are unhappy. Our culture doesn't manage expectations of aging very well. My Dad is sad that he can't drive anymore at 91, instead of being grateful for his mobility. So people get angry at the normal losses of aging, and there's not much to be done about that. Hope T's FIL finds peace and good housing.
Lisa somewhere I have an unfinished granny square afghan that I started in high school. Talk about not managing expectations!
Rebecca you are doing it right! Yay for Anacortes!
Heather Yay for the Continental outing!
I miss cafe outings like that strolling with a loved one. I wish I was in better shape for strolling! I'm working on that.
Allie sorry to hear about Uncle Bill. May he rest in peace.
Barbara wearing headphones is beyond Dad at this point. We are still working on pants.
Pip happy birthday to Kirby! Never heard of an ice bar. Fascinating!
Tracey that coffee sounds great!
We are going out to lunch with my friend Craig. It will damage my diet efforts, but I will survive.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

Hey, y'all,
Thank you to those who complimented the pillow and commiserations to those who had sketchy experiences with granny squares in their history! 🤣🐈⬛🐱 My sister taught me how make a granny square, and my first afghan was made from a granny square where I JUST KEPT GOING. As in a square that was six feet long on a side, with alternating stripes that went all the way around… I think I was 20. I find it easy because you only have to count to three. No concentrating on stitch numbers or changes.
And for Lanette, who both complimented (thank you!) and asked - yesterday was a day of pure exhaustion, so I took a two-hour nap and then nodded out every time I sat still for a minute… and I still was able to make six of those same size small squares. It takes 16 small ones to make a pillow. So a couple days of work in my spare time for the squares, and probably another day of my TV time to put it together, because I crochet it together, rather than sewing it.
I've been crocheting for more than 50 years, so it's far more than 10,000 hours of crochet in those years - possibly even more than 100,000, looking at the math. Right now, without a smidgen of exaggeration, the yarns that are available are ten times more beautiful and incredibly more varied than they were when I began at 13 years old, so it's a joy to indulge in small designs like that pillow. More to come most likely. Really enjoying it!
I have to skate - I have an optometrist appointment in an hour and a half, and it takes me an hour to shower and get ready and 15 minutes to drive there… so I'm off. I'll pop in later, I'm sure, unless I start napping again!
This is a picture of my newly finished front yard, now that the little house is gone, gone, gone. It was a little foggy this morning, but this is from my carport, looking down my front yard… you can see the front porch steps at right, and the mimosa tree that lives 20 feet from my bedroom window. At the far left is that patch of fence that was left to obscure the transformer boxes, and my driveway curving past the solar lamp post and flowerbed around it.
Oh - and the stump with the mushrooms is from the tree that fell on the front edge of the house and bought us a new roof through the insurance company a few years back! We're letting it decay naturally…
Later, my babies,
Love from foggy Arkansas,
Lisa11 -

Me too - bad kidney & liver numbers.
A few years ago, I had liver numbers of a heavy drinker. Given that I rarely drink alcohol, and haven't touched it 7 years, I was puzzled about those numbers until I read about the effects of Panadol/Acetaminophen and anti-inflammatories. I had been using both fairly regularly for a while.
Now I will use anti-inflammatories occasionally but only when things get really bad.
Because my most severe arthritis is in my feet, usually the pain eases a bit by removing shoes and socks and walking around barefoot and putting my feet up and ensuring that absolutely nothing touches any part of my foot other than the heel, not even a bed sheet.
A very hot shower will usually ease foot and hip pain.

Heather-I’m sitting in Heathrow and there are people with “Saga” signs. So of course, I thought of you.
Kelly-Nice to see you pop in! Yes, that’s a lot of stuff. Hang in there.
No sleep on my flight. The people behind me couldn’t sit down for more than 5 mins at a time and bumped my seat constantly. At one point, it felt like the guy was playing drums on my seat it was annoying. But my niece met me at the hotel and had me roaming London all afternoon. I managed to stay awake till 10pmHad a nice afternoon in London. Heading to Dublin soon.

Machka it's a Merach Q1SW low end magnetic rower. The rails have a titanium edge it says, but some of the other parts are plastic. It's largely white and looks pretty good but it's awkward in the TV room.
Looks all right … I hope you can get it to work for you.
I went with a Concept2 Model D a number of years ago, and really like it. I am looking forward to getting it set up in our "gym" … one day soonish, I hope.

I've been known to stand up to glare and fiercely hiss "STOP IT!!".
I've also called the flight attendant over and told him/her that the person behind me is kicking my seat and could they pass along a message that they need to be still.
Sort of related amusing story … a couple weeks ago, we went to a candlelight concert. The person behind me decided to prop her foot on my chair, and slide her toes through the gap between the seat and the back of the chair.
I tend to sit as upright and straight as I can and so I had my bottom right to the back of the seat to take advantage of the curve of the back of chair. Therefore, the toe of her dress shoe, was actually dug into one cheek.
I wasn't having that, so I reached behind me and pushed her foot down … but she must have thought her foot just slipped so she put it back and dug it in even further!
So I reached behind me and gave her toes a good pinch … squished them as flat as I could, and then shoved her foot off the chair. She gave a little squeal … and never put her foot up again!! 😆

Good morning ladies! This afternoon I pick up new prescription. I'm kinda excited for that.
This morning heading to the gym to walk for a while. I do a little over a mile and will eventually lift weights, just taking baby steps. I need to see what this new dosage does and I don't want to be sore.
Down another lb. Heading down this mountain graph like a mountaineer! Wearing my "Uff Da!" teeshirt this morning. Having that as a gym shirt just makes me smile. I really dislike going, but I get it done. The lady that works there, she is so nice, we chat like old friends. So Carol (that's her name), is glad I go, so don't want to disappoint her! The fact that I see NO other older ladies there makes me feel kinda special. Its just old retired men, and sailors, and me, the token old lady.
Cooler weather here, just 70's as highs, and 55' lows. Normal island weather.
Hope you all have great days! Hugs

Machka: Bravo 🙌 for the toe pinch.
Lisa: I’m done with granny squares for now 😂 My last project was such a pain to put together.
Annie: Hooray for getting the boot off.
🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.Up early to do weekly grocery shopping.
I’m having a go at making blackcurrant jelly. If it doesn’t work I’ll make it into either juice or toffee. Nothing ventured! Nothing gained! 😂

Flea … oh darn. I had hoped you had a recipe. I have a very large cauliflower in my fridge and since I'm not overly impressed with cauliflower as a vegetable, I thought to make something spectacular with it. I will check out the frozen cauliflower crusts though.
Tracey … my mom will be 94. She is in an excellent nursing home … but it's not "home." Once we moved her into this facility, I discontinued paying hefty health insurance premiums and enrolled her in a managed care insurance specific to nursing home residents. She continues to get excellent health care but we have all agreed (my mom concurs) to do nothing heroic. It's a fine line between prolonging life and hastening death.
Rebecca … good luck with the new Zepbound dose.
Nicer day today, but I still have more cleaning to do so off to it!

Todays food diary:
Good day for protein and liquids! My healthy Life keto 5 seed bread was really good! Had a substantial turkey sandwich and red bell peppers and dip. Full until my kielbasa 2 oz hunk (they're pre cut in the freezer) with some brown rice and quinoa. Then an 11 oz protein drink and a Magic Spoon bar. 👍🏼💖

Really interesting article on a study that shows that losing weight actually changes how our fat cells work (in a good way!)
Back from getting new glasses ordered. Not cheap even with insurance, but necessary.
Too hot to breathe outside, did my 15 minutes exercise, and ensconced in my chair, drinking iced tea, crocheting, and going down YouTube rabbit holes.
I love my life. ❤️

So, my October birthday present is coming early. On Sunday, to be precise!
I've wanted some proper noise cancelling headphones for years, and everyone knows Bose are the best. A bit pricey for me! Today I was looking, again, at cheaper ones, when I saw that the Bose ones were on Prime special offer. Still a lot of money. Then I had a brainwave! John could buy them for me as an early birthday present. Yes, rather early, but he didn't mind, as long as it's something I really want. :-)
So, Sunday it is.
John actually does have an earlier model, and always takes them on the cruises, but otherwise doesn't use them much. I hope I will use mine more often.
Very excited!

Working, going in the pool, went to ceramics, same old. Continuing to walk around the block, cutting grass. I do think Vince is enjoying having someone else cut the grass.
Planning to do a body pump DVD tomorrow and then either going in the pool or using the rowing machine, depending on how I feel
Been having this dry cough so I went to the MD about it since I’ve had it for a few weeks. He gave me an antibiotic and then some sort of cough pill, says that I should be better in a week
Deb – I wish I could cut the corn off the cob, but Vince likes it on the cob so I wind up having to freeze it that way. Personally, I always cut mine off the cob
Mo – I so enjoy reading your posts, keep them coming!!! The way your husband did his prep sounds like the way I had to do it this time.
Lisa – beautiful pillow. Great front yard
Annie – yea hip hip horray for no boot
Saving the tomato boxes for Jess. They are nice and sturdy (double walled), have handles and stack nicely She thinks she'll be here this weekend to bring some of her stuff. BK just throws them out. Seems the guy who came Mon and Tues is buying 6 BK’s so he’s going to all of them. He hung up the bags of onions. Personally, it really doesn’t bother me, but who is going to put them up? Well...not my problem
The one thing that I don’t like about the rower at the Y is that it has these stupid games. So I just don’t play them. It probably would be interesting, but they are so stupid
Deck still isn’t built. Talked Vince into taking out all of the landscape lights and when they are done, we’ll put them back in because you KNOW they’re going to ruin them and we can’t buy anymore
Lanette – how did they diagnose your arthritis in your lower back? My back hurts some especially when I bend over. I know I have scoliosis and think this might be more than anything else the reason for the discomfort
Annie – so sorry the rower isn’t what you expected.
Allie – I’m so sorry for your loss
Barbara – whenever an ambulance goes by, I, too, say a silent prayer for the person they are going to help/are helping
I have my father’s rocking chair. I was hoping to rock my grandchild in it, but that never happened
This is one of my months to count the donations at the church
Pouring rain, lightening and thundering out right now. Will probably go downstairs to work on the puzzle. It was so hot, in the 90’s. It sure has cooled off.
A lady at BK gave me a loaf of this keto bread. Not bad at all, no sugar, 6 grams of protein. I think I’ll share it with another employee, she sometimes does keto
Tracey – sounds like Rebecca is needed at your “getting to know you”
Better get this posted before power goes out

Coffee with the residents today went well. The treats were a huge hit.
I bought a variety, 6 Cherry tarts, 6 lemon tarts, 6 Apple streusel and mini cinnamon buns. I told them I decided to give them dessert before lunch because that’s what my grandfather always did.
I told them about the town I am from in NB and the story of the Longest Covered Bridge in the world.I think they enjoyed it.Heather - I am not a singer but any stretch of the imagination. We do have two pianos that get played regularly. One of our residents great grandsons (late teens) comes into play occasionally, he is incredibly talented.
There is a volunteer in her mid to late 80’s that comes every Friday to play.
That’s a lovely gift. I always ask for early presents too. My grandparents were the ones that agreed the most. There was still always something else on my birthday or Christmas. 😂Annie - have you tried contacting their customer service?
Lisa - I admire those that can knit, crochet and quilt. My paternal grandmother always made it seem as if I wasn’t a “proper” girl because I didn’t do those things and had no interest in learning. I can sew enough to get by, and I can knit as long as you know there will be dropped or picked up stitches in every row. 😂. She never saw the use of other hobbies I don’t think.
I need new glasses and am very fearful of the price. These ones were $900 and I bought clearance frames. My lenses are insane.
I still feel guilty for purposely breaking a pair of glasses as a young teen. I hated them, they were ugly and I had gotten teased again that day. I stomped them, went home and told Mom & Dad that I broke them when I stumbled on the stairs and they fell off and someone stepped on them. I don’t know if they 100% believed my story but I stuck to it. I ended up getting ones very similar to these ones and of course, added the requisite butterfly sticker on the bottom corner. I was a brat!
It must have been a terrible burden to my parents. I don’t know if Dad even had insurance at the time.
Mind you, the optician was also a terrible man and copped feels where he shouldn’t have when my Mom’s back was turned. So maybe they got a discount. 🤷♀️ oddly enough I don’t think I realized at the time how wrong that was. It really dawned on me when I was home in 2012 and my glasses broke, I asked my MIL if there was anyone else in town yet and told her what he used to do. She was outraged. Told me she would go in with me and using some very course language told me what she would do if he tried anything.Machka - I’m sure that’s a number Rodger will get one of these days he takes too many otc drugs.Have you tried a CBD cream on your feet? It helped my back a lot.
How rude! I don’t understand how people think it’s ok to do that.Tina - how long are you “across the pond?” How rude of the people behind you.
Beth - I agree, a very fine line indeed. I think people need to be better educated on the aging and dying process. It’s terrible to learn everything as you’re experiencing it.
Michele - I saw a brilliant way of freezing corn yesterday. I haven’t tried it, but they just shucked the corn, added a couple pats of butter on each uncooked cob, some salt and pepper and then they vacuum sealed 2 cobs together. They said they just dump the package in boiling water and in 16 minutes they have fresh corn that tastes like it just came out of the garden.
Well I didn’t go for a walk this evening. I decided to sit on the deck and enjoy the evening. As I was sitting out there my neighbour walked by, she was teaching her son to ride his bike so I went with them around the corner and back.
I then took a bath, watered my flowers and caught up with you ladies, a friend in NB via text and a cousin via messenger. Way too many communication methods on my phone and the phone never gets used. 😂I took a picture of Jonah last night while we were at the park. I had told him that I had a picture of him in the same playground piece when he was a baby and it would make a nice scrapbook layout someday.
Here he is 13 years apart. God love him, he loves me and knows I’ll be posting it everywhere and he still smiles for me.I’m going to sit back and watch tv for a few then head to bed.
Goodnight all!

Hello Ladies,
It's 11:49 pm, and I'm tired. I did nap today, and it was a good one. I did my laundry once I got my nap boost. I also loaded the dishwasher. ( I wash the dishes before I load them.) I had typed a lengthy recount of our day, but then my post disappeared. (WIfi issues:() Long story short, yesterday I discovered that on top of DH's Colonoscopy, I had an appointment with the orthotics lady. We went to my appointment at 10:00 am and arrived at the GI lab, located in a different building at the same hospital.
As a result, we arrived an hour early and started early. They said he was well-prepped, and this time, no pre-cancerous polyps. He will not need to get one done again for 5 years. We were doing one every year due to his polyps, and now all is well. Healthier eating must be the reason. DH has several interviews lined up. And a 3rd interview with another company. So we will see what happens. DS is trying to determine what to do during his internship. They, meaning the people at my niece's friend from NYU's Art Gallery, are pretty vague about what they want him to do. They said he is coming in too early. They explained that they are artist and prefer to sleep in. When he asked what he needed to work on, they told him to ask AI. Then, the work he needs to do, he doesn't have enough information to complete it. So he asked for the information, and they said, Don't worry about it. Then they pack up to go home in the middle of the day. They tell him to enjoy his weekend. DS likes structure and guidelines. DS said to me that he wants to get out of his shell. He asked me why we didn't put him in the camp that we put him in before. He believes that would have helped. He loves to go over where I went wrong. I thought about it and remembered that there were calendar conflicts. Plus, he didn't tell me that he wanted to go. A parent can only do so much, and they will learn that one day.Anyway, DH wanted Mexican Food, so we ate outside at La Conzuela's. I was nervous because a wasp was nearby, then a bee joined in, so I ran into the restaurant. DH couldn't believe that I brought my own low-carb/calorie tortilla and my Quest Chips, so I would not overdo it. I had carne asada tacos with beans and rice. DH ate my beans and rice. So, I ate his leftover tamale for dinner. :) All was good, but I prefer the other restaurants near my house. I am going to bed now. DH has a 4:00 am flight to North Carolina for a church conference. Good night for now.

My friend L is leaving West Wales this morning, to go up to London. It will take around 5 hours by public transport. She is staying in a hotel for a couple of nights in order to go to the Hyde Park BST Concert on Friday. Neil Young, Van Morrison, and Cat Stevens. All day from 2 pm, in 31 ° temps, no shade, and no seating. She is 75.
I can't think of anything worse! I did say I could get the train up to meet her for a meal, but she thought she would be too busy/preoccupied. I'm glad now she said no, because London in the heat is no fun.
Oh well, what Barbie always says - what's fun for someone else may not be fun for me. And vice versa. I hope she'll be OK. There are a few drinks tents with some seating, but you are not even allowed a blow up cushion on the ground. Of course, you can pay triple the price for the VIP area. 😖
Weather gorgeous again. I've bought John a little present, which will arrive over the weekend. It a paper panama hat. The one he wears to cricket has got so sweat stained that I can't bear to look at it. You can't really clean it, because it's paper. The real ones, which are very expensive, are made of straw. I tried to replace his hat a couple of years ago, but he didn't like the one I got him. This one has very good reviews, but Amazon warns that it is an 'often returned item'.

Good morning my friends!
Lisa your front yard is beautiful! Reminds me of Kylia. Lots of grass to mow.
Machka sorry about the arthritis. Concept2 makes a great rower, I hear.
Tina Enjoy London and Dublin!
Rebecca Yay for lifting weights! Hope the new dose goes well.
Terri blackcurrant jelly sounds lovely!my grandmother once put salt instead of sugar into her homemade jam. She tried to rescue it for a week!
Heather Yay for noise cancelling headphones!
Michele so far I like the rhythm of just rowing. But I'm only at ten minutes…I have my grandmother's rocker.
Pip you look happy with Kirby
Tracey Yay for coffee with residents! That's a good idea to call customer service. So sad that idiots think they can cop a feel. Hope he got caught.
Barbara kilt Lol! He just comes downstairs without thinking about getting properly dressed then doesn't want to bother going back up. Best wishes for your nephew.
Mo My daughter was dissatisfied like that. She always wanted me to get her into show jumping on horses. Not on our budget.
I had a lovely lunch with my friend. My Dad came along but didn't say much. I had Thai basil shrimp and then mango cheesecake. Very good!
I finally quit horseback riding. Well, I stopped weeks ago for my foot but now I told them I quit because of the osteopenia. But today my sitter is coming anyway and I am headed to the library. Not sure what I will do there. I might take my laptop and try to write something. Or work on that application to start a writing group.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe, and free!
